What I don’t see: potholes or cracks. This is just a smaller difference of why biking in the Netherlands is really much better than in the US. But of course, the Netherlands isn’t known as the biking center of the world for nothing!

So in America what you’ll often hear is how the income taxes in Europe are quite high and as an American living in the Netherlands I can tell you that that’s true but what you won’t often hear is what you get back for that income tax that you pay for instance this is what

Bike Lanes look like here in the Netherlands do you see what I don’t see and this is what the bike Lanes look like in America I know which one I prefer

  1. Still, the amount of taxes in NL are excessive. If the government would be 100% transparent, they could do the same with 1/10th of the money.

  2. Stop using "America" to refer to a country. It's wrong, incorrect, ignorant.
It's offensive to other Americans that are not US-Americans. Specially with your bloody history in Central and South America

  4. Taxes are not much higher. If im correct, they are often less. If you factor in all costs like health insurance, its often cheaper than the us

  5. Are you nuts? The Netherlands has a socialistic totalitarian government.
I pay more than 70% taxes on what i make in my lifetime. This is theft. And this is not spent on cycle lanes.
    F@ck big government
By the way live your videos 😁

  6. Please, the tax is too much in the Netherlands for what you get back. This country is going downhill because of our crazy tax system, and it only attracts lazy foreigners who don’t want to work and just exploit the system.

  7. Dutch people even don't see ít anymore altough ít is all there. And ít costs a lot of money to maintain too. I think everyone is blind, here and in other countries. 😢

  8. Why do you need high taxes for making common sense urban centres? Inside cities in Europe that were built before the car, the narrow streets can either be: walk lanes, bike lanes or horrible for cars

  9. that is not even the worse of bad American bike lanes. I have seen paper-thin bike lanes on the shoulder of super high-speed roads (even going across intersections with interstate on-ramps) that are definitely not safe

  10. Also, comparing numbers because they are the literal translation is dumb. Income tax in European countries refers to nearly any tax that is income dependent. That's not the case in the US. US tax is split up in maaaany more smaller categories. It's better to compare expendable income after all (semi) mandatory comparable services are paid for. Per worked hour.

  11. Let me put it very carefully … income tax is not how infrastructure is financed. There are targeted taxes in the Netherlands but the revenues from those is not primarily used for the declared target. Road tax is only partly used for road construction and maintenance.

It would be nice if the dogtax was actually used to keep streets clean …
🎶 want Amsterdam, is poep op de stoep 🎶

  12. Road taxes (motorrijtuigbelasting) alone pay for roads and infrastructure, not the income tax. The income tax is disporportionate any which way you turn.

  13. The US is also massively geographically diverse, not all areas make sense to ride bikes, especially cities built on hills. In dense, flat, urban centers, it makes sense. Not all places are like that.

  14. Yeah but you need to tell them as well that our education system became very bad the last few decades..
That hospitals had to shut the doors beause the government wouldnt use the tax money for it. The elder care for people who are financial not above average is a joke.
Why they make these lanes of our tax money when there are not enough houses for the tax payers? The list goes on and on.
I understand that the Netherlands is still a beautiful country to live in but its getting harder every year and I dont like to compare with other countries.. I compare my country now with my country 30 years ago. In 10 or 15 years this country isnt that fun to live in anymore if you arent wealthy enough.
Meanwhile lots of the tax money goes to things like the climate.. like this little country is gonna make any difference😂😂 No the lanes are nice but it does nothing for anyones happiness.

  15. Also fun fact. Paying taxes in Europe (or atleast in the netherlands) is also easier too, you can easily see it online and there are jobs that automatically pay your taxes for you everytime you get your paycheck
