Servus and welcome to the FC Bayern Vlog. This is an extended version. We’re going to follow our equipment manager Martin Dellemann in this vlog. We’re there for the match preparation, obviously on the journey to Rome, and we’ll also do the same at home in Munich at the Allianz Arena.

I’m telling you, this will be behind the scenes at its best. My name’s Lukas, and this is the FC Bayern Vlog. This is the first-team changing room, and here’s Martin. – Good morning. – Hi, hello. We’re starting our Champions League mission today, and are going to set things up now, help the coaches

Setting up training. Last time he got to film George Clooney. Now you’re a Hollywood star. We’re going to set up training now. We’ve got a session for us and the press, and then straight after training we head to Rome for our Champions League mission.

How long beforehand do you go out to set up? Around half an hour. It always depends on whether there’s a meeting beforehand. Today we’ve got a meeting, so we start a bit earlier so we can start training straight after the meeting. Champions League training means a special outfit, special motivation,

A special atmosphere – everything you need. Great weather. What more could you want? Things can only go well. This is our equipment room. We’ll grab the most important things now. And let’s go. We’re training today on two pitches. We’ll warm up on pitch 2. The media will be watching there

For the first 15 minutes, and then we switch over to pitch 1. We’ll do a few tactical things there. Final training is always with the Champions League balls so the guys can get used to the new ball a bit, because it’s different from the Bundesliga ball. And that’s always nice motivation as well.

You notice there’s something special about training. Now let’s go over to pitch 1. We mark out the pitch for the coaches. There’s special pitch sizes for special drills. Martin, how do you prepare? Do you talk about what’s going to happen so you know? Yes, the coaches usually let me know on the pitch

Or just before what they need, how they want it set up. And then I support them. But they basically plan that before with the head coach upstairs, and then we help them on the pitch according to what’s needed. Goals, mini goals, etc.

We need to fix it down. It’s too dangerous for the players, they might trip over it, so we’ll fix it down now. We’re ready with the setup. Final preparations in the changing room. Martin is sorting out the boots. In about 10 minutes the training session starts.

That means tightening the last studs for the players so they can train properly and there’s no injuries. Always very important, because the players place a lot of value on their studs doing their job. We’re all set. The pitch is ready, the boots are ready. The guys are coming out for training.

Martin’s surely thought of everything. Now let’s see what he does on the pitch. And off to training. Training’s going on behind us. Martin’s obviously there. Let’s have a look at him. He’s currently alongside Thomas Tuchel. Do the players sometimes need things during training? Yes, that happens when it’s cold.

Gloves, or sometimes new boots when a boot’s broken or doesn’t feel good. Often warmer clothes. There are always wishes that come up. We’re changing pitch now from pitch 1 to pitch 2, then we carry on. Training’s finished. Martin is gathering things up. And then soon we’re off to the airport.

Jamal’s having a few more shots, having a bit more practice. We’re clearing up. This is the most stressful part of the day because it’s close to departure when someone remembers that he needs something for the journey at the last minute. But we normally have everything ready so

We’ve got a few spares to hand. We’re packing up the last things. Manuel’s gloves, they obviously need to go with to Rome. We set off in 45 minutes. It’s all a bit stressful now, and then we head south. We’ll follow Manu’s gloves on the trip,

But first another interesting thing as we look inside the storerooms. Martin, we’ll follow you. Right now we’re underneath the changing room. This is our domain where we have all our storerooms. Here we’ve got all the clothes for the Champions League. Here we’ve got everything for games in the Champions League.

Here we’ve got all the boots. A few crates for traveling. We always need a lot of equipment and carry a number of crates with us. This is our jersey storeroom. And here we’ve got our storeroom for the Bundesliga. And here’s all the balls, etc. This is the Bundesliga storeroom.

Here we’ve got everything we need for the Bundesliga, training clothes, warm-up clothes for the game, etc. So, everything for the Bundesliga is here. The storerooms are always packed. They then empty out slowly during the season. You can see the team bus here. Off to the airport now, also for me.

Then we’re off to Rome and we’ll continue there. What else would you get on a flight to Rome other than pizza and antipasti? I call that perfect preparation. Flight was perfect, on time – early in fact. And now to the hotel with the boots we’ve got and the washbags.

The rest is already in the hotel. We’ll hand out the training clothes today, then we’re done for today. – Then we go again tomorrow. – Very good. Day 2, good morning from Rome. Now, look at this view. That’s also the view our boys had from their balconies, from the players’ bedrooms.

Rome. Matchday. Andiamo! – There he is. Good morning. – Sleep well? – Yeah, you? – Yes. – Matchday prep under way? – Yes, all going well. We had breakfast at 8 and then have the activation at 11. The team will warm up a bit, then a few will play a bit of football-tennis.

The guys always have a lot of fun. We’re setting up the room for that now, so they can get started right on 11am. Let’s have a look. Martin, this room looks perfect for football-tennis. Exactly, the room is perfect for football-tennis. We’ve prepared everything. So, we’ll start here with a light warm-up and stretch.

The players can activate their bodies a bit. And then we’ll have football-tennis here in the middle. Each player has their own pair of trainers here, which are ideal for football-tennis. We’ve always got our current balls here, and they’re always adjusted because we need a bit less air here than on the pitch.

    – How many bar? – Between 0.6 and 0.7 bar. – And on the pitch? – Set at 1 bar. We always have them nice and hard. We always have them nice and hard. but here, in a room, on the ground it’s better to play with a lighter pressure. I think the ball’s ideal.

We always have drinks and towels for the players. We basically have everything the players need. In general, it all takes 20 minutes, half an hour. With football-tennis it can last a bit longer afterwards. There’s usually a few hotly contested games, sometimes a whole hour,

And then we have lunch and then preparations for the game. Final take at the team hotel. It’s now 5pm. Kick-off is in four hours. But the equipment managers are heading to the stadium now to set up the changing room, move all the equipment to the stadium so everything’s right when the players arrive.

And we’re obviously going to be there too. So, to the bus and then off to the Stadio Olimpico. Off to the stadium. We’re moving our things from the bus to the truck. Then we’ll take everything to the stadium, get the changing room ready.

We’re leaving at 5pm so we’re there two hours before the team. To the stadium? Okay, off to the stadium. We’re now waiting for the truck so we’ve got all the crates we need for the game. Then in through there. I presume we go in there.

We’ll see in a moment and then unload it all. And then the stress starts. Martin, so when the bus can’t park here then it’s tough, right? Yes, since the bus can’t park here, we need to deliver everything with the truck. Normally we come with the bus.

So, the bus normally has our equipment, brings us here, and we unload it. But since it’s very tight here and not possible for the bus, our kit truck needs to come and we’ll unload from that. Germany won the World Cup here. Yeah, this will do.

We’re now in the changing room. A nice changing room. We can work here. What do you look for when you’re looking around? The first thing we check is if we have enough massage benches, because that’s important for our physios. I’ll tell them we’ve got three here.

They then decide if they need more or not. We’ve always got some on the bus. We always have our own massage benches with us and can then provide some more. Martin just told us the entrance is a bit tight here at the Stadio Olimpico.

So, the delivery of the equipment will probably be a bit harder, but the guys are used to it. There’s already plans for how we can maybe work around that. A slight delay, so even more important to have plenty of time?

Exactly. With the traffic abroad it’s often tough to estimate how long the journey will take. When you’ve already calculated in a few minutes of delay, then you’re not stressed. So you’re still calm? Nice and calm, relaxed. We’ve still got enough time. The team’s coming in around two hours, so all fine.

Since I’m here, I can do a bit as well. Martin, do we have everything? We’ve got everything. Now into the changing room. We always start with the shirts first. For home games at the Allianz Arena, everyone has their own spot and stays there. Everyone’s in a random order.

But obviously nobody has a usual spot for away games. The players always have two shirts per game, so one for the first half and one for the second. What happens when one’s broken? We also have a back-up. That means we have three shirts for every player. Each player gets two here,

And we keep the third as back-up out on the pitch, because it can happen that a player gets a cut or something, and the shirt gets dirty and then needs to be changed. Then we’ve always got one, a third shirt by the pitch. There are players who like to play with long sleeves,

Like Eric. But you always need to have short sleeves ready because it could happen that he switches today with the temperatures. A pair of shorts for each player. There are also special requests here, like size or material. There are two different types. There’s the pro one.

That’s a bit different in terms of quality. Then there’s one with some more synthetic material. And there’s also players who prefer it when it’s a bit ‘softer’. You know that all by heart? Yes, you remember it. They tell you one or two times and you remember it. We have three types of socks.

We have the cut ones. Already cut. The player doesn’t have to cut them. And then different sizes. We’ve got medium, large and extra large. Every player has their own preference. You learn over time who wants what. Why cut ones? Because lots of players prefer to play with real socks instead of these socks.

So, they wear normal tennis socks underneath the cut socks. They just prefer it. We distribute the warm-up clothing now. These are the clothes the players wear to warm up before the game. Everyone obviously has their own, their own size. We’re distributing them now, so we know exactly which player needs which clothes.

The coaches also have their own room and their own clothes here. They get changed here and get everything from us for the game. They need a bib for the warm-up, gloves and hats in winter. They get it all here so they don’t have to go back and forth to the changing room.

The tactics board is also important? Yes, the tactics board is obviously also important. Special guest. Servus. How’s it going? What do you think? It’s a good game. A very beautiful game. We will see. I don’t know. But Bayern is strong. But be careful. Lazio is not so bad.

So, we had Luca Toni make a brief stop for some analysis. Who don’t you meet in Rome… UEFA are here now. They’re filming the changing room for the live feed. We’ll hold back a bit. Important pictures. Now that everything’s ready, it should be fine.

Quick break in the build-up. We need to be quiet. Luca has to work. So, we’re now done with setting up in the changing room. Just tightening all the studs again so they stay in place for the game. We’ve got Thomas’s now. They’re not new boots, are they? Not new boots. Quite the opposite.

It’s a myth that players want new boots for every game. That’s not at all true. Most players play in the same boots for a very long time. When they’re used to them, a change isn’t that quick or simple. Then a check that Manuel has everything.

For Manuel, we’ve got this for the warm-up, a long-sleeve top, a short-sleeve top, then a ‘techfit’ and long cycling shorts, and shorts. He uses them for the warm-up. And then for the match he wears his shirt. Obviously also the socks and shorts. And the most important thing for a goalkeeper, his gloves.

We’ve brought them from Munich, as we saw. And with his boots we always check the studs are sturdy. And then we’re ready for the match. Then we can start. We now mix our drinks together. We have a special mix. The physios gave it us.

And then two apple juices so it has some flavour. And then top up with water. So, we’re done in the changing room. Let that sink in. An hour and a half of preparation. The team is about to arrive at the stadium, can enter the hallowed halls. From Rome to Munich

Finally back home. Part two of the FC Bayern Vlog. Folks, what am I to say? I was so annoyed after the first leg and have been really looking forward to today. Because it’s a home game, because we have the FC Bayern fans behind us

And because we’re going through to the next round today. I’m totally convinced of that. And if you are too, we’re already on the right track. As promised, now we have the pre-match preparations at the Allianz Arena with our kit man, Martin.

Martin is already on his way to the Arena. We have five hours until kick-off, still a lot of work ahead of us and we are now looking at it together. Lets go, part two with the Bayern kit man in Munich. Servus Lukas. You ok? Hi, yeah all good.

    – Second leg. – Home leg, far more important. – Here we go again. – The bus is full. Of course, the bus is full. We’ve got everything with us. First of all, the jackets for the stadium, to keep us nice and warm.

    – We need them today. It’s still cold. – Exactly, it’s not warm today. Fleeces and raincoats. Something for all weathers. Of course. Let’s go. – What’s in here? – In there are the kits. Including the ones for the warm up.

The most important thing for the game – we can’t play without kits. Then we have the boots. They’re really the most important things, right? Just as important as the kits. Without kits and boots it’d be difficult. All kinds of crates, as you can see.

And always very important. Champions League, In the first part you learned that for every game there are of course different boxes and different things, that’s obvious. Is there any special feature for today? No, no special features, just a completely normal Champions League game.

But there is a lot at stake. And that is what’s special. – That’s what makes it feel special for you, isn’t it? – Exactly. When something’s at stake, it’s always exciting. Then let’s get going, so we’re ready in time for the team to arrive.

But we have enough time, almost three hours before the team, that works well. – So that was everything, right? – Yes, that was it, exactly. So, we usually arrive two or two and a half hours before the team. Then we unload, set up the changing room, prepare everything else too,

And check the dugout outside, to see whether the heated seats are working. The team then arrives around an hour and 15 minutes before kick-off. Then we go through the motions, starting with the warm-up out on the pitch just under 35 minutes before kick-off.

Then at 9pm sharp, the game begins. Now we quickly move our truck to its parking space, so it’s not in the way, because the buses arrive over here. The team bus parks there, so actually we’re in the way of the team now. We’re now right in the way.

That means if we stay here they can’t walk in. – We don’t want that. – No, so we’ll quickly move it. The team are arriving now here through the mixed zone, where after the game all the interviews take place.

Here at the front we head towards the pitch in the arena. Then we go out and that’s when it gets really exciting. Do they always see you there? Are you always there when the team goes out? Of course. Here’s the away dressing room.

And in here is the home dressing room. Here you can see all the players on the wall. and you think – oh yes, here we go! We have a lot of the material that we need in the cupboards. How often do you forget something at Säbener Straße?

As a rule, we don’t forget anything, but from time to time, you have to turn to the backup material. For example, The odd sock or two, where you thought: “Ah, I’ve already packed them”, but in fact you didn’t pack them. But that happens maybe once a year.

With so many games, that’s quite good. Here is our physio area. And here’s the area for our doctors, the doctors’ room. And now let’s get started. Our colleagues are already busy with the jerseys. Let’s start with the footwear. It happens from time to time,

That the players prefer a different size for their shorts. That’s why we always have a few pairs and a few numbers here, so we can make a change at short notice. Sebastian is here for every home game. Hello, greetings. There are actually four of us, exactly.

That means two do the home games, two do the away games. We also have a new colleague now, Haris. Hello. We have enough boots, nobody has to play barefoot. Manuel’s gloves. Manuel’s gloves we didn’t forget them in Rome either. They’re not new ones, are they?

No, I think they are the same pair as in Rome. And we haven’t forgotten them either, they are here. And today our third goalkeeper Daniel Peretz is also here. Then we’ll go over to the coaches’ locker room. This way. Into the realm of the trainers. Here we have the coaches’ locker room.

Of course they also have all their footwear and kit. Once for our assistant coach and for Thomas Tuchel, the head coach. The players also have their training shoes. So let’s check, if everyone has two pairs of shoes. Yes. But we also checked that three times at Säbener Straße,

So nothing should actually be missing. The coaches’ shoes. One for Anthony [Barry] and from our goalkeeping coach. It gets less colourful. It’s less colourful now. With the coaches it’s very monochrome. What’s the difference between the coaches’ room and the players’ locker room? There’s no difference, Just like the away game,

You see that players and coaches are separated, so they can talk to each other and the players can change over there. We make sure that the coaches have everything here, so they don’t always have to run back and forth. Take a look here, Manuel Neuer’s boots.

A special lacing technique, that certainly provides a bit more support. These are the details. The setup in a locker room, home or away, is basically very similar. As we can see here, each player has their own space.

As we’ve already seen, in the away locker room we do it by numbers, lowest to highest. Otherwise this setup is very, very similar, so the players don’t have to search for anything. Then each player gets a towel for the shower. Now we bring our physios a few more towels for the treatment.

What’s happening in this room, Martin? This is where the players get treatment. Before the game, at half-time, and also after the game. To relax the muscles again after the game. And then we’re up and running here. This is brand new. We can screw in the players’ studs electrically now. It’s quite practical.

My colleague had a great idea, it makes it easier for us to fix the boots. These are our balls. Who gets all the balls? So each team has balls for the warm-up and the referees also get ten balls. These are the match balls, used for the match. I’ll bring out our balls now,

Our goalkeeping coaches and our assistant coaches take them out onto the pitch, because they set up the warm-up. So they take them with them. Today, of course, we have the Champions League ball. The colleagues from Lazio are already here and at work, They are already hard at work. They probably arrived here yesterday

And started early this morning, just like we did in Rome. The obligatory chewing gum, it’s important for players and especially for our coaches. Here we have the kit for our coaches. Take a look at this, these are Thomas Müller’s shin guards, one of Germany and FC Bayern’s best-ever players.

And I’m very sure he’s had that since the Under-11s. That’s ‘mia san mia’. Then here we have the captain’s armband for Manuel, We’ll put it on top here, and we have the pennant here. Wonderful. For the coaches we need the warm-up bibs, They always get four,

So four in each colour and two in another colour. Anthony gets these for the warm-up. Take a look around, The locker room is filling up, almost everything is ready. So far we’re done. It took us just under an hour, we’re well on time. Another quick check, if everything is there.

We’re ready, we can start. Bring on Lazio!. Then we take some more water to the dugout. During a hot game you tend to get thirsty and that’s where water comes in handy. We always have four crates of water next to the dugout, Now, for the first time we’re on the pitch: It’s raining.

Absolute Champions League feeling, with the drizzly weather, It couldn’t be better, could it? It makes the pitch nice and fast. Martin, where’s your seat? My seat is usually over there, because I collect the run-in jackets, then I go back inside, the game usually starts by then

And so in the third, fourth minute we come out over here and then usually the first four or five seats are for us. That’s where I settle down. – Good view of the game, right? – Perfect. Better seats in this stadium, you can feel the pulse of the game.

I’ll get the training the training material, the material for the warm-up. We need hurdles, cones and markers, We put them in front of the coaches’ office and our athletics coach and assistant coach then set up the warm-up.

We have a few players who, after the game like to go to the ice barrel after the game, to cool down and then we have here a nice barrel of water with ice, nice and warm. And we have a few players who like to use them,

It’s nicely prepared for regeneration after the game. Just right. So if you like it cold, just come here. The ice barrel is always ready. The locker room is ready, the team is about to arrive, We’re going out now. Then we’ll watch Martin on the pitch a little longer

During the final preparations, and then it’ll soon be time for kick-off. Okay guys, now it counts, here we go. The team is out, the Champions League anthem has just started. You can feel the atmosphere here. You can tell the guys are up for it. Everything ready for an FC Bayern victory.

We’ll wait a short time for Martin, he’s outside collecting the warm-up jackets. Then a final statement before the game and then we’ll see see you again after the final whistle. There he is. Now we’re ready to go, right? We’re ready to go. Now all that counts is victory.

And in the end a win for us and off into the quarter-finals. – Top, Martin, see you later. – Have fun watching. Well folks, there it is, the Bayern victory. We’re through to the next round, we’re through to the quarter-finals.

It couldn’t have gone any better, This is the kind of Bayern evening we needed, the mentality was there, the game was outstanding. Great goals and now we continue in the Champions League. Martin and the team had to be a bit faster after the game,

They have emptied the locker room and have already left. But Martin told me, we’ll meet again tomorrow because he’s thought of a little something else and that could be be very decisive for you. A very good morning from Säbener Strasse, the day after the game. The mood is great,

The weather isn’t quite so good, but we won’t let that stop us. As I promised you yesterday, there’s a little something from Martin. He told me to come round again. I’ll do that now. He’s downstairs, cleaning up the stuff from yesterday and then we’ll see, what he has for us.

So down we go to Martin again into the hallowed halls. Here you can already see the balls and the equipment from yesterday. Let’s have a look, where he is. There he is. Good morning. Good morning, Lukas. Did you sleep well? Yes, you too?

    – Yes, after the game, definitely. – Well recovered, good mood. Mission quarter-final was a success, yesterday was a good game. We’re all satisfied. 3-0, that’s how it should be. Martin, you said, you’ve prepared something else. Yes, I have something else for you. You made the video so beautifully, accompanied our journey.

We have Manuel’s captain’s armband here, from yesterday’s game, and I’m giving it to you. So it can be the prize in a draw among all our viewers. This is the original from the game yesterday against Lazio. Have fun with it. There can’t be a better souvenir.

Thank you very much, it was fun, If you see Martin on the pitch, give him a wave. Have fun and we’ll see you again at the stadium. So, folks, just think about this. This is the original captain’s armband, that Manuel Neuer wore yesterday in the Allianz Arena.

And that’s not all, because as of yesterday he also has another record, so it’s even more special. His 57th clean sheet in the Champions League, i.e. without conceding a goal, that puts him on a par with Iker Casillas. If he manages another clean sheet,

Then he’s number one and that’s what we assume will happen. So something very special for you. We’ll tell you how you can win the captain’s armband in the caption. I would also like to get another autograph from Manuel,

That would round it off nicely and I’ll see you here for the next FC Bayern vlog. I hope you enjoyed it. Please leave us feedback in the comments and then our Champions League journey continues. And we still have a lot more plans, as you’re used to from us.

See you next time and thanks for watching.
