Filmed back in early July on a warm summer’s day but only recently edited, me and Mike set off on another fantastic bike ride. There’s lots of cracking descents on this one too as we took on the Nick of Pendle from the off which lies to the West of the Pennines.
If you are a keen cycling enthusiast or are looking to get into this great sport, then I hope my videos give you an insight as to what is out there waiting to be explored up here in the north west of England.
With maps, a live narration and a running commentary, please enjoy and leave us a comment, Unlike other cycling channels, I will always reply to you.
I’m a cyclist and I live in the Pennines..

So it normally goes like this I’m a cyclist and I live in the penines and if I sound out of breath right now it’s because I’m cycling of a big hill in the penines I’m a cyclist and I live in the penines and welcome to my channel and

Today me and Mike we set off from the town of Wally in Lancashire and on this section here we’re making our way along Wally Road into Captain where we’re about to take on the classic clim called the nick of Pendle so this meant that from the off

We were cycling uphill and gaining 800 ft in elevation over a 4 Mile L by the time we’d reach the summit what goes up must come Down so here I’m just about to Crest the summit it might’s well ahead cuz I’ve been faffing about buils there’s a sharp little Peak here where we’re at 950 ft above sea level or 291 m i saw the large Bound in front of you that is Pendle Hill which is really high

Up in the penines just over 1,800 ft or 557 M it’s just to the west of the main penine range of Hills got sheep there on the left and I’m about to build up some real good Pace here you look on the left again there that’s a Ski Center some of the

Top snowboarders in the United Kingdom TR here so I’m out of the saddle now and I really am giving it some big licks to be honest and the maximum speed along here somewhere was over 50 mph I’m just looking ahead down the right we’ got a

Car about to make a maneuver I wasn’t quite sure what was going to happen there we got through it safely we just look at that look at the view ahead however you’ve not got time to look at that view you’re just trying to pick the best line you can you’re scanning

Everything with your eyes wide open way way down there we’ve got some temporary lights so I need to negotiate my way through them now under normal circumstances You’ be carrying a lot of speed hitting this CLE Grid in the left hander always be careful cuz this right hander can catch

You out as well so again it’s out of the saddle I am mindful that this car’s there waiting and then it’s time to just have one final blast down here again I’m out of the saddle really enjoying this descent I know Mike’s ahead somewhere but I’m not quite sure where he is using

All the road all the TAC available picking some really good lines and absolutely having a blast and there are times when you have a sneaky Peak at the speedometer and you don’t really want to see what you’re doing to be honest it puts the fear of God up

You so I’m tupped in here now and just cruising down this fantastic descent and again they’re taking a nice inside line we got some cyclist there crossing the road and there’s Mike on the left boom and I’ve just gone straight past him holding a pretty nice Arrow tuck there

As I descend my way down the latter PA of the road towards the a59 but as you can see really other than the lights had a pretty good run in this next section it felt like I was surfing down the big barreling waving Hawaii trying to get out the other

End un like with all highp speeding descents in the penines and elsewhere in the United Kingdom enjoy them but just be careful and there’s quite a few on this video today to make sure you stay tuned all the way through I really enjoyed that descent

But let’s have a look at the map and that’s where we’re based in the northwest of England and looking in more detail you can see where we set off today from the town of warley in Lancashire as we made our way towards sapon and going down that great Descent

Of Pendle Hill and the aim of today’s ride was to find a new Cafe for going down some old roads as we headed towards Wigglesworth tosside and Slade bur with a trough ahead of us or we pass through duno bridge and other classic places like chipping Engle White St Michael’s

On wire was in the house of Lancashire at this stage I’m finally headed towards incap and catfi where we had a spot of lunch at Roots Cafe and we cycled 58 Mi at this point and it turned out to be a cracking Cafe but let’s get back to the

Ride where we’re on the a59 I’ve got Mike on the front with a tail wind we were cruising at 30 mph on the mph and then at 10 m we took a left just before Sly brow just over my right shoulder there is Sly Abby and it

Dates back to 11:49 and then shortly after we left laner behind us briefly as I climbed up Forest Beck’s brow with Penny gent in the distance ahead and Wigglesworth was next is that a really good little lane that this is Wigglesworth yeah it’s Wigglesworth is

It so as you know if ever you come to the trough you’ve got to get here The Dales is that way I think we’re in York now Lancashire in the trough that way Slade burn and toss side and all that and don’t s Bridge yeah it’s all that

Way is it yeah well 20 mi Mike yeah and this is TOS side yeah so go on what county are we in at the moment Yorkshire is it we are in Yorkshire and on the other side lanker right on the border good AR it m geography you getting

There watch me bike I need a nature break this is 22 mil now Mike we’re on the B 6478 which as you lot know is a classic cycling road that takes you from The Dales into the trough of band oh it’s a classic and it’s an area out sing natural beauty oh

Yeah that goes without saying do it and just look around these Hills here isn’t it beautiful oh beautiful are you being serious yeah Beautiful what a fantastic view I think m getting a bit giddy but yeah that head is the trough I’m just moving ahead further on down the road now still on the b64 78 we’ got Slade burn just in the dip below where we a proper shifting that’s a hell

Of a rate of knots we’re about to cross over the river hoder you got to take on this big right hander here get around that quite carefully and it’s always a bit of fun coming down this section I love it and actually it’s not a about climb going back up here to

Slade burn and that Ben we just got around that’s a tough one to climb up where’s the bridge was probably close to the speed limit as well might I had there’s also a good Cafe on the right here that’s a good right s today isn’t it

Yeah this is Slade burn at 25 miles at this point we came off the 6478 and headed towards Woodhouse Lane so at Slade bur you’d normally go through there and kind of bear left we went straight through on this lovely lovely little Back Lane it really is stunning and it’ll basically just Loop

Right around the hillside here and we’ll come out near Newton in Boland he just gets you away from cars and motorbikes so let’s have a quick look on the map you you can see Slade bur highlighted there in the green where we’ve got Newton in Boland and then duno

Bridge just further on down with the B 6478 showing in blue and this little lane we’re on now and pass it’s called back Lane is a lovely addition to any ride around the trough great is it yeah 30 m in now and we’re on the approach of dun s bridge I

Love It I Love The Views it’s a great feeling coming this way out going to watch out the potholes cuz this road it really is poth hoing however the backdrop is just something else it yeah and every time I ride my bike down here I’m just blown away by its

Beauty warm area yeah it’s brilliant so we’re not far from duno bridge now and you can see the sign on the left saying the white well state so we just guess over the crest of the Hill there and drop into so Bridge itself and there’s that classic iconic Cafe which

Is puddle Ducks puddle Ducks me and Mike have stopped there quite a few times on our night if ever you’re in Duna bridge that is your sign you can’t miss it it’s a proper old sign post they don’t make it like that anymore do they oh no it’s

A classic sign classic sign you can’t you just can’t get them for love the money can you no is that the good reference up there 6575 no that’s my telephone number how must it doing up there know now this next bit is just knockout you can turn

Right at the signpost and do the trough climb when he said here we’re going down the valley over Langdon Bridge here and I just think it’s Lancer at its best it’s absolutely well I think you just got to ride down here to appreciate it and describe it in your own words and this

Is lon home Farm on the left got M coming through there it’s nice and warm it’s very flat and you can always carry some great Pace along here we’re still following the river Hoda we’re making our way to the burol bridge where we’ll Bear right and take a cracking little

Detour over a little Bowland road so we’ve come off now the uh the main road out of the trough and the view behind is great another one of them unnamed roads but it’ll take us more towards chipping in the end that’s a little long Buster that’s Jeffrey Hill so yes that

Big hill in the background is Jeffrey Hill and it’s just on the other side of where long rdge will be and me and Mike have got this great descent just to take on a lovely little bit there as we go past not end Hill Farmhouse and that is

A beautiful little property so we’re still on Little bowan Road and we’re heading towards Bowland wildbore Park and shortly afterwards we’ll be on the outskirts of chipping and I must say the cycling around here is absolutely knockout we just get around this left hander here and that was a lovely section

37 miles this is the uh little place called chipping and it looks like the Cobble corner is posed thank you another one is it a lovely little place Farm Shop lovely have to go to that Farm Shop another time and in fact on the 17th of

December 2023 me and Mike we did exactly that and we’ve got a video to prove it it’s called the chipping Farm Shop the Cobo corner is just literally 50 yard over there we’ve always gone past it so I’ll give it a gold I bet it weighs the same as a gold Bar right this is fory Mile in as well so we’re now letting the Garmin take us towards a destination we’re looking for in skip we’re we’re on like a Labyrinth of these back Lanes in Lancashire they’re lovely aren’t they oh yeah nice T yeah nice T nice and smoo isn’t

It very green oh yeah very green and very blue and blue skies but it is meant to rain so behind us we’ve got duno Bridge chipping the trough behind us ahead basically is the West Coast never too far away from gang or Engle white places like

That but I found a cafe this morning that looked okay in this area so we’ve got capat forth and inscape dialed in and that’s where the cafe is again we’re at a Labyrinth of lanes again lovely lovely cycling Countryside this Mike on the front next left

In fact the Garmin is now telling us that we’re riding on a cycle route which is the c357 keep nice Pace on here it’s cool as well cuz my god when you stop the wind there’s no wind and it your temperature goes right up well that’s nearly 59 mes to the cafe Roots

Lane Cafe on Roots Lane that’s a no-brainer oh look now this was a cracking little find and little did I know but it was actually a dedicated cycling Cafe and one or two viewers who are local to the area have also recommended it so as soon as you walk in there you

Got all these cycling kits and jerseys on the wall and these even bikes hanging from the rafters but the question was did they do black pudding they do black pudding mik as it happens Mike have been on the sent of black puddings for the last three miles so he knew we were in

They do black puddings mate yeah at that black pudding and sausage about to strip off too Hot you not hot not too bad at This I like that oh yeah that’s a black pudding SED what about desserts that one a kind of Jammy Quant like that a lovely current slice look at that oh yeah let’s be honest I’m quite partial to our current slice I have been since I was a kid there bikes on the

Roof mate I’ll go back on that one but anyway it was time to hit the road again and there was rain forecast for later that was a good Cafe yeah a proper cycling Cafe see you well that was a good stop and actually I found that this morning just

Having a quick look on the uh the computer so I didn’t know it was a cycling Cafe therey you are well we’re straight out of the cafe in this lovely Lanes again really nice I think we’re heading towards katam next could be wrong it’s cotton not

Katam come on Daz well I’ve put some directions into cotton but then we’re on a brand new road lovely tarmac but the ging doesn’t know the road it’s not on the map so right now we’re going through a field apparently well we’re on a lovely Magical Mystery Tour now the G’s taking

Us on a cycling Trail look at this ahead making our way towards gria what’ you make of this Mike it’s a bit CAC CAC not the best road is it just for the record we cycle down William young way turn right onto Sandy Lane left onto H’s Lane which led onto

Light foot lane and then we took a right onto Walker’s Lane Lane which is where we are right now having crossed the Tom Benson way this was a ging Magical Mystery Tour 70 m in now rid on the B5 2269 we’re at Long Ridge some lovely Lanes there all the way

Back as we made our way towards Grims so we’ll Bear right on the B6 245 and that’ll take us towards rib chest the next I think we’re going to do a route over towards Wilshire on the way back 74 mil in now this is the road to ridester with n

Green and H green behind us Mike’s on the front nice left under get around this that’s nice yes lovely road this h h h h h so Stony Gate Lane drops you right into to ribchester but we took our left onto the B 6245 with that cracking right hander there as it

Crossed over the ribchester bridge now the river Ribble and on this section here we’d normally go left to get a route back to warley me and Mike wanted to head out towards wilpshire to get a few more miles in before the rain came so we Beed right here continued along the road and

Eventually this road will take you to the a59 where there’s some pretty steep hills well 80 mil in big climb this Wilshire behind us got to climb up here and drop down to Great hardwood what a climb looking over our shoulder you can see them dark heavy thunderclouds are starting to creep up

On us well we’ve covered 80 M now we’re ey up on the Hills above richon and it’s not raining here but it’s meant to rain anytime now looking over my shoulder the clouds are really black the sky is turning but the view that way is pretty clear

Oh we’re not far to go now but them clouds they’ve caught us up you can see it’s gone really really dark all around hopefully we’ll get away with it but I could do with a good shower right right so this is wilpshire road with risten to our right and Dean

Kclu Reservoir to our left and we’re on this descent at the moment with mik ahead you can see the sign there for a steep gradient and we really are on it here we got a big ride hander get around that safely and then we’re heading towards great Highwood and

Tottle worth isn’t too far away either so I go to the front always trying to pick nice lines and we’ve got a very long straight section here so my legs are still feeling good and I decided to put a bit more power through the pedals you still got to concentrate when you’ve been

Riding all day through the trough but I was near at 50 mph after this section we we’re looking for Golden Acre Lane and sha Cliff Lane which will take us towards wary NAB so apparently this drops us down Wally NAB we got Mike in front and I need to catch him up

Who great great great watch it and one of two viewers have been asking me to make the videos a bit longer so I’ll leave the next few sequences in for you as you make our way towards warley along a section of Road I’ve never been on before and it was quite challenging

You down down yeah right is it steep yeah but is St blind Corner left under don’t know it wa this could be scary quick woo squirrel on the brakes big time here wow I can’t see anything I can’t see pot holes left under way up can’t take any risk big left under again slow right down wow oh

Yeah oh W na think we just turned that to Perfection yeah well we’re back in warley that was another good ride Andy to tell you what his feet are not too bad Mike feet are good we’ve got a bit of the yads some beautiful parts of Lancer I’m almost on

The west coast great Cafe some good descending and we it over 50 mph which is good way around I wish now we’re going to get smashed in that wine bar it’s always full of crumpy well that was a really really good ride we was desperate to try and get 100 miles out

Of it but it just wasn’t worth it with the rain coming so in the end we cycled 86 mil and we were just shy 6,000 F feet in elevation for the day and we certainly named drop quite a few iconic places in this part of the world world

But on the way back the heavens absolutely opened and as I approached my local town in the penines driving conditions were really bad the weather really took a turn for the worst for me and Mike we made a good call to complete the ride after the final Descent of warley Na you’re on have you got any partying words to say Mike about the ride got oil on the top yeah anybody know how to get that out lick it anyway he said the surgeon performed a miracle he transplanted me uncle’s legs onto me okay so myew kill says oh bloody oh

That’s Simon he says who you going to be tonight he goes Matthew tonight I’m going to be Simon and half Uncle good to night it what’s up what your thought explain it no one knows you got Vera no ah it’s at Hot Spot I get hot spot anybody know I got Wi-Fi from

That Hotpot is it not that I got a signal up there 4G or is no no no it’s not the same one though Dar I’m trying no I’m a a car no it’s it’s the burning sensation on your on your foot is it when you put

The cigarette out yeah all right have to go oh ants I’ve got in an ants nest what a blast that was and I’m sure that I just pass mik there over 40 odd M hour I don’t know try moving the cleats and it is better but it’s not 100% so if

You have a whip round and get me a cleat fit and and we we can go from there can’t we right a c fit it is yeah with the top man you do In I’ll tell you what that see you can’t go down that flat out can you no I can’t it’s a it’s mountain bike off that it’s 30 Off

  1. It'll keep thee fit lads. Watch out for crows. Had one fly right across the road, was lucky to miss it. I'm spolied living here. Farm shop does a good brew in Chipping and bacon butty.

  2. Well just as I needed cheering up, you two come along with another ride. 😀
After crashing over 3 weeks ago at 31mph at a roundabout in Blackburn, I’m still off the bike for at least another 3 weeks. This vid really really cheered me up, but also made me realise what I’m missing, and all because I didn’t slow down enough and got carried away with speed.
A very financial and painful experience.
However I’d rate this as one of your best vids, especially the “outtakes” between you and Mike at the end, as it really added a sense of “realism” about you both rather than just “filming” a ride.
Thank you Mike for cheering me up and thank you Daz for taking the time to film your ride, friendship and laughter. Great stuff 😀👍

  3. I remember passing you on the way to St Michael's that day, (in the car of course). The main road Catterall to St Michael's A6 and A586 is an absolute disgrace at the moment , one bend B4 you get to St Michael's is almost unrideable at the moment (due to be resurfaced in April). We are running out of road!

  4. Another great video Daz n Mike it's few years since I went to Roots cafe, some nice lane's round there not like Anglesey your either going up or down Take extra care , Bill.

  5. So many cycling vlogs churning out similar videos about the latest must have kit. I've stopped watching as many as I use to.

Your videos really are a breath of fresh air. Basically, two blokes riding stunning routes right on our door step. Keep up the good work Daz, thanks for sharing 👍

  6. Great video again. And one we all needed to remind us what the sun looks like 😅 Roots is one of my goto cafes as its always open. Slaidburn to Chipping is cycling heaven!

  7. Another cracking vid! I’ll be cycling through the Trough of Bowland early April and I can’t wait. I was intrigued to see you wearing a short sleeved cycling jersey and bib shorts. Was it really that warm or am I just a wimp?

  8. Hi daz how’s it going pal. Thanks for another great video with some top lanes and quick descents . I had a good ride this morning around beacon fell with some nice quiet back lanes roads to myself and some good climbs . However the catch was with a wet surface with puddles & dirt the poor bike was filthy but happy . Enjoyed it though

  9. Such a beautiful area . Inspiring for when the weather improves and am definitely coming over from Leeds to do that route. EDIT: that Back Lane route out of Slaidburn – we rented a cottage last year and it was just along there.

  10. Ace! I have a solution for Mike's hot feet….just ride in the winter……. lol
Hope you are both looking forward to warmer days again.
