– Today, we’re gonna spend the day on the famous Golden Circle route from Reykjavík. There is a lot to see, so let’s get going. Our first stop is at Nesjavellir Power Plant. It’s a geothermal area near Lake Thingvellir. What’s really interesting about this place is that it produces enough energy

To power almost all of Iceland’s homes. We’ve just arrived at Thingvellir National Park. I am so excited to see this natural wonder! Thingvellir National Park is the spectacular site of Iceland’s first parliament. It’s also the place where the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates meet. I’ve just arrived at the Gulfoss waterfall.

This place is insane, as you can tell. I’m actually gonna go down closer to check it out. You’re walking along and all of a sudden, it’s like the earth just opened up, and there’s this massive hole with this waterfall gushing through it in all different directions. Then you see the mist rising above

And you just sense the power of it. We’ve just arrived at the geyser. We’re waiting for the next eruption. It could happen at any second. We’re all very excited, waiting very patiently. Walking along here at the geyser as you realize how alive the ground is underneath your feet. This is an incredibly active geothermal area. It’s full of all these geysers, big and small. Whoa! Shooting geysers and massive waterfalls, separating tectonic plates, today was truly unforgettable. The Golden Circle is a must-see.

  1. Your enthusiasm is infectious!! Nice too that you made the effort to pronounce Thingvellir (or even Þingvellir) correctly! 🙂

  2. In November of 2015 I went to Iceland and Alaska. Iceland was truly warm and beautiful, it almost seems magical. In November the days are short, and the sun doesn't appear until 10:00 in the morning, but other than that Iceland is spectacular and you owe it to yourself to go as you will fall in love with this country as well as the people. Iceland does have the tendency to be expensive, but if you're exchanging Canadian for Isk it's not bad, and there are ways to save money. Iceland has an extremely LOW crime rate. Police don't carry guns, and people are not afraid to walk the streets at night. And you don't find the usual security at the airport that you would in Canada and the U.S. I intend on going back in 2018, as it seems to be a world unto itself.
