In this acoustic ballad infused with Caribbean sounds, Maë Defays presents love as a cosmic process linked to the birth of the world and life itself. Using the metaphor of the eternal attraction between the moon and the earth, she fuses poetry, music, and storytelling to mythicise the encounter of lovers. The tide rising and falling from the coming together of the two celestial bodies symbolizes the birth of love, as if the forces of gravity which shape the universe acted upon human lives
too, naturally guiding them towards their destiny. The hypnotic ostinato of the title represents this undying energy, a perpetual whisper symbolizing the cycle of life and the universal refrain of love. With the unique setting of a deserted beach at dawn, the High Tide video features Maë Defays and a dancer in an evolving pas de deux expressing the meeting of lovers, their hesitations, the growing yearning, the seduction and finally fusion.
