Hello, here’s a teaser, a few insights into my last summer bike ride. It was supposed to be a dream summer bike ride. The weather was predicted to be stable , so I took a few days off, packed my bike, tent, sleeping bag,

And I also took my solar module with me, I don’t have a dynamo. I packed my little tool bag again for navigation . This time I really had to use it. A bit of rain protection was a must. Luckily I only used it very, very few times.

    Again, enough lamps (I always like to be out and about at night). The plan was like this: stay outside; I actually always or almost always bathed in some kind of water or looked for water; very rarely in there anywhere; once had a shower;

I always ate what I bought somewhere. And I slept where I ended up in the evening, so as you can see here: I like to be by rivers – by lakes – in the mountains. So actually I was always just looking for a piece of short-mown meadow.

In the evening when it got dark – as I said: now it’s time to sleep – to rest a bit… I loaded various EuroVelos and cycle paths onto my navigation system. I preferably looked for river cycle paths and then followed them.

The idea was something like this: first go into the Alps (as a northern German, that’s a highlight). What ultimately happened was that I thought while I was on the road: “Man, the Mediterranean isn’t that far – why don’t you go down there and swim in the Mediterranean?”

And that’s what the track ultimately became. So it wasn’t planned. The only plan was to first follow the Elbe cycle path (I’ve already cycled down there several times),

Then, as I said, the Alps (that’s where the Mediterranean came from – the idea) and then of course I wanted to go back. And that’s how a track like this became about the homeland. So now it’s 5000 km from your own home, your own country.

When I was on the Mediterranean, I realized that “Venice” isn’t far away either – so once you go to Venice by bike, there’s something nice there too. I then went a bit towards Germany again,

The second time over the Alps, then rode along the Lake Constance cycle path, then went up to the Rhine, i.e. Rhine cycle path, then realized: “The Moselle is not that far away”, so I went In France, rode along the Moselle and then back in Germany followed the Rhine

To the Netherlands and then we went back to the North Sea, back to the end at the Elbe and then home A few clips “It was a great bike ride” Has So to me: “One of the best bike rides I’ve done!”

I started in Kiel, then followed the Elbe for a few days. You can always drive right-Elbian or left-Elbian. So depending on the direction of flow on the right or left side.

Then there is a lot of nature – you can see a lot of birds and storks and you can really have peace and quiet. There is also a lot of nature reserve. This is of course not possible

For people who like to sleep on the side of the road . But there are many rowing clubs near the Elbe and you can sleep really well on their meadows. At the beginning there is also a shower.

This will change over the course of the trip. Then I don’t have them anymore. Then drove through Meißen, drove through Dresden. This is all still Dresden. A very nice city. So I’m usually only in the cities for a few hours. I look at the highlights a bit, take a few photos

And then we move on again. This is now back here on the Elbe. I was at a bend in the Elbe at some mountain or castle, was it up there, and then I spent the night. This is the border with the Czech Republic and then Prague is reached straight away.

I spent the evening and night in Prague and then looked at Prague at night. It was also very, very beautiful, warm in the middle of summer. Yes – next morning in Prague. And on the way I noticed or there was advice from another cyclist:

There is a “Greensway” from Prague to Vienna and I happened to have it on my tracks on the navigation system. And then I hit it and then followed it. That was also a very, very nice tip! So – it’s a wonderful way. This is just the smallest limit.

Supposedly “Czech Republic-Austria”. They also often overlap. So the “Iron Curtain” / EuroVelo EV13. This often overlapped with the “Greensway Prague-Vienna”. So it went up into a small mountain range – in the Czech Republic and then there were great river crossings with suspension bridges.

It’s really fun to drive over and not go over. Because – these things start to swing when you walk on them or drive over them. And there were a lot of castles in the Czech Republic. So I drove there for a long time or many, many castles and looked at them.

And the cities are also built a little differently than we do here in Germany. So it’s still very old. Then we went over to Austria and into Vienna. Then I looked for a warm shower and found it. That I could also see Vienna in the evening.

Wiener Schnitzel was a must. and there it is – the Warmshower. I was then allowed to spend the night on the balcony. Was able to wash clothes and take a shower. Then we continued to Austria – I followed the Enns cycle path – then another overnight stay in the mountains.

I think this was a kind of airfield for the paragliders. Everything mown nice and short. And when I get there in the evening it’s often the case that I somehow look for a bush or, like here, a building or a shed

. And then from the street view I go behind it so that no one even notices that I’m there spend the night. Here we continue into a valley like this. Higher and higher and then

At the end, because there is no way over the Alps, you have to take the train through the mountain. And then here came the Alpe-Adria-Weg. That was also a route that I received advice along the way. Drive it – and it was a great tip! So I drove that long.

Through the foothills of the Alps – then through the high Alps. So I spent a few days there. Yes – as a North German, it’s simply a dream to drive through the Alps in this great weather. And yes – always enjoy these views of sunrise and sunset in the Alps all day long

. When the sun goes down. Either I drive into the darkness, sometimes and sometimes I set up camp in good time and then set up my tent so that I can look at the sun again in the evening through my fly screen or the next morning when

The sun comes up, then look closely at the sun. Yes – things were slowly heading towards Italy. That was another overnight stay in Germany and these are railway lines here. So for me it’s actually one of the most brilliant and beautiful cycle paths there is.

So in the lowlands you’re a bit elevated, usually on this dam, and in the Alps it’s “super great”. You drive on three or four levels. Somewhere river below, highway, somehow a normal road, somehow still the train path. Yes – here in the Mediterranean I went swimming once, as already mentioned.

And then I realized: Venice isn’t far away and so here I was: going to Venice in the evening. I arrived in the dark and then realized in a park in front of Venice

That it was the only place I could sleep. And then I set up my tent in the park for a few hours at night. Then in the morning I got to it… On this long causeway to Venice, I

Only stayed there for a short 10 minutes and then we headed back towards the Alps back to the north. And that’s where I got totally lost. I actually wanted to follow a bike path. And then somehow a while later I looked at the navigation system and

I was easily 100 kilometers lost. So it was 100 kilometers off the bike path. Yes – these are now the 3 Peaks. It wasn’t planned that way. But suddenly they were there. It’s a super beautiful area.

Yes – we can only recommend – because of this – to drive this part of the Alps, which is already just before Germany again “Brenner Pass”. I once rode my bike. From south to north the climb is relatively flat and then if it

Then goes down to Germany, then it is a bit steeper. It was such a fast-paced evening. I was already pretty tired and tiled down there – and then I was pretty cold. Downhill runs – if you’re already exhausted, the cold can be tiring.

And another overnight stay somewhere in some meadow near a body of water. Everything was always nice and “soaking wet”. I only have a very simple, lightweight tent. It has a single shell and I often have problems with condensation on the tent wall and the down sleeping bag slowly rubs off while I sleep

And then sometimes I have to dry the sleeping bag during the day. Yes – “Neuschwarnstein Castle” wasn’t planned either. Was suddenly there! Of course I have to go up and get all the way to the castle on my bike.

So a little bit has to “crawl” up the mountain. Yes – some of the pedestrians are chauffeured in carriages and then to Lake Constance. Here is the island of Mainau [Lindau]. I was there as a child and watched it again. So this beautiful flower island and then I

Followed the Lake Constance cycle path and then to the Rhine. There is a Rhine cycle path. Also a EuroVelo. I took a long time and looked at the beautiful cities in Switzerland. This is now called stone here. “Stein am Rhein” is what I think it’s called? Exactly: “Stein am Rhein”

Fantastically so fantastically painted houses there. And then yes “Rhine Falls of Schafhausen” It suddenly appeared on some sign. Of course I stopped there again. And we continue from city to city. Then I always bought something to eat in town.

Looking for a place somewhere. Then I ate it up because… That’s Basel. I was impressed because in the middle of summer they like to take a bus up the Rhine somehow, then jump in with a plastic bag

In which they maybe put their clothes and then let themselves be floated down. By the hundreds. So I thought it was really nice. Yes – changed the EuroVelo again. Because I realized: “Man, the Moselle is nearby and I’ve heard that the Moselle is so beautiful.”

That’s why I somehow started on the Moselle cycle path and then followed the Moselle for a long time. So it’s really a very beautiful area there in France. And the cycle path is also very… well, river cycle paths are usually very much in nature anyway

And you can find wonderfully beautiful places there. Also to spend the night in the evening. Such a beautifully painted building. Then we went to Schengen. I was briefly in Luxembourg once. Then I looked at Schengen. There’s a small exhibition there.

And then – I think this is still the Moselle cycle path? Exactly – Moselle cycle path. And then slept by the river again. We went to Koblenz. And yes – my bike is from Canyon so I visited Canyon

With my bike. They were having an exhibition there. Then I went through Cologne, Düsseldorf and here… There was such an exhibition: “The Everyday Man in Rheinberg”. They have large figures set up everywhere in the city. I couldn’t resist leaning my bike against everything and taking a few photos.

Yes, and that’s what the evening sometimes looked like. Somewhere near larger bodies of water. I was literally looking for them. Always in the evening: “Where are there any beautiful bodies of water?” And that was the goal for the evening. And if there was enough distance and it wasn’t too early in the day.

And then I looked… Yes – then it was in the Netherlands. Shortly before (that was actually Rotterdam) I had a flat tire in the evening. That was really wet again – the street.

I slept there too – in the middle of Rotterdam. So I had to somehow get the tire clear again that night. Then we went back into nature. That was also a wonderful route so close to the North Sea. In the Netherlands. And here I had to make a forced stop.

There was a bridge closed to cyclists. Then I slept in the middle of the village. Local residents brought me breakfast in the morning. And then I was able to… (the buses stopped running in the evening – I had to finish quite early)

Then I’m back here on the North Sea and slowly I went back towards the Elbe. You could see German signs again. I still had to do something big (I don’t know which mouth that was…?). I had to spend a lot of time driving around

Because it was so difficult to get there – on a bike. Something was blocked there. Yes – and now I’m back at the Elbe and then followed the Elbe back down. and then we went home pretty quickly. The whole film will be available

Here on this channel sometime soon – in its entirety – in all its beauty! See you soon!
