Nothing’s at Springtime as much as Milano Sano the5th edition of the great race history Always written on the shores down towards Sano itself they rolled out for what was a heck of a day 288 km up ahead of it starting inabia just outside of Milan heading due east before cutting South

And of course the Mighty po play the distance is what softens everyone up the hills and the mounts in themselves are not exactly the Alpine test that you’re going to find later in the year but they come thick and fast towards the end of the day and that’s where they count once

We hit the coast it starts to get a little bit lumpy through the Cappy and of course destination the Chessa and the podo it is a very special race and had a very special field of riders about to take it on chapters are written but indeed Superstars are also born occasionally

Here what a day it turned out to be a brute of a distance nothing longer in the season how long would it be before we got ourselves a breakaway but starting amongst the favorites at the top of the day Matthew vandero and T Bachi you’d think talking to some

Pundits that basically there’s only two riders in it far from it with glorious weather virtually no wind and of course the fastpac that this season just seems to have been characterized by we were destined for a day like no other and what a finish in Prospect as well well

Before we got there Breakaway took a while to get established but indeed they built themselves up a gap at 2 and a half minutes was their maximum because they were being paired back almost constantly particularly by Ala IND keric but also by little Tre working of course for mass pedison as the kilometers

Started to e then uee started to flow and indeed the pace that was CAU by T pater was having an impact further back at the back door went the European Champion Christoph Lort for vismo Lisa bike and the attrition rate just intensified a lot of fast men found

Themselves in trouble but there were still some of the sprinters that were still involved with the classics men and indeed those that will be battling for GC titles later on with 26.4 KM to go the pace was called for by Tedy Bacha and this was designed to hurt absolutely

Everybody including those who will have started amongst the favorites for the day Isaak Del Toro has been an absolute brute a bull you might say the youngster on behalf of tal pukaa he works beautifully and finally the call came come on let’s hit the pace even more

Well UAE had been quiet for much of the day and suddenly they’d gone very very loud indeed others thought well best form of defense is attack and that’s precis actually what we got from leadle Trek still they were stamping on the pedals mat vaner PA was never that far

Away betti all very much involved in the case and staying with vaner Paul was J for Philipa also in the mix well the punches came the punches were landed but not any knockout blow not for this moment anyway but they were rocking and some were rolling backwards I’m afraid

Philip oana found himself in just a little bit of trouble then Bacha went again well who was going to chase on momentary lapse of concentration and maybe just out of position vle it wasn’t set off after him Gana faded Thomas pitcock came through to pick up that mantle Beto was

Still very much in the frame this was absolutely frantic with just over 5 km to go the happenss were coming I’ve seen it moments like this that some Riders have managed to push on for Glory well would it be this time by that was the big question they were not going to be

Alone and there’s a superstar descender that we know all about former winner of course coming into the frame Matti mic well he is if nothing a specialist at precisely this Duty he got himself in he went over the attack up and over and we thought for a moment maybe this was it

What would it have been that aqua blue helmet disappearing marich when he’s in this kind of mood or maybe he wished he’d put that drop post in after all all everyone was setting off after him at this point and with Just 2 km to go it looked like he was

Going to bring it all the way home himself leading the chase behind with no option at all was Van the Paul on his back wheel Tom Pitcock was there waiting to pounce got a a kicking finish himself and then it was Pitcock that decided to set off along with of course just into

The wake of the borrowman brilliant work I have to say by saero he was passed by pitcock and then there was a a mass Gathering I gu of resources just behind steaming into that Gap was vanap he effectively LED just about everybody into it mat bison then picked up the

Mantle he got a lead out we were just wondering who on Earth else would come and join the fun and Matthews it was that looked quickest of all he went to the barriers on the left hand side of the road and just following in behind him y ferson was allowed off the leash

And on the throw got there proving that sprinters can indeed have their fun in this race after all no matter how tough the climbs are at the end of the day have I won it he said he couldn’t believe it well you better he written a

Chapter for the rest of his life right here yes and what a popular winner as well pagach and Matthews all offering up their thoughts and of course Matthew vanderpol can you believe it well you better y philipsson has taken it ahead of Michael Matthews T Pacha M pison

Alberto betol moric the descender was there in sixth place head of V Hills Stan Al Philip and Vander Paul this was a very very special day let there be no doubt and the Finish itself was amazing what a Podium and indeed what a surprise Winner full of the joys of spring I

Think you might say and anyone who saw it will feel likewise an amazing race an amazing win on an amazing Day

    1. Thank you for not posting spoilers in the title or thumbnail, unlike some other sites. That actually allows those of us who didn't see the race to enjoy the highlights and the finish!

    2. Great attempt by Pidcock🇬🇧!!! I thought he might just pull that off!!! Whoever says that was a boring finish is full of it. Philipsen hasn't shown us much yet this year but he was the best man today. Chapeau!! I'm just glad MVDP didn't win. Lets not forget about Pogi tho. He was quite explosive💥 in that one attack and then he was mixing it up in the sprint. The lad never stops amazing us. Maybe he'll deal with the heat better this year. We all know thats his kryptonite. Absolutely great finish!! Major upset for Matthews!! I would rather see Matthews win instead of Philipsen but Philipsen⚡ was the better rider today. Chapeau!!
      🤘🏻🇬🇧

    3. Pogi says "today was one of the easiest races ever"😳😂😂😂 He just rode a 288km Monument and hwn mixed it up in the sprint. Hes a charcter! I do like him tho

    4. Poggi missed a couple of kicks or even had to brake when Philipsen was moving to the left (only visible in the overhead footage). He might have had a chance to win the sprint otherwise. Not Philipsens fault of course, but just saying. Poggi too much of a gentleman to mention it afterwards, he's enjoying the racing even more than the winning!
