Started have a bit of housekeeping to do I so sorry you hanging on for a minute and I is like yeah fire exits are here toilets are there all the boring stuff what you want ask Emma right well I think we should get into it I’m for right so Emma start with you

Who is Emma um so I am from a beef and sheep farm in South lire um grew up with sort of three three other siblings mom and dad like very family orientated rugby mad um just just the usual kind of kind of stuff so is it brothers or

Sisters you’ve got um two older brothers and older sister as well so split split down in the middle that’s like amaz Mom and Dad always said that no it’s not I’ve got two sisters IDE um but yeah mom and dad always said they had loads of kids so they don’t

Need to employ any work for for so that’s that’s my thinking as well that’s why we’re having so many yeah cheap labor or or the most expensive labor you could ever have it depend how you look at it it’s a long-term investment you know but longterm gains long-term gains

Absolutely yeah so do they get free labor out of you yes they absolutely abuse it yeah and no we’re all drafted in quite a lot to be honest for for helping and odd sort of stuff yeah okay and and what what’s your thing more beef or more

Sheep you like um probably more sheep I think yeah I like you yeah definitely more sheep to be honest I like cattle as well but she PR easier to work with and yeah prefer them I think okay so how did you get into rugby when did it start um it started as

I say it was quite a family affair like dad everyone has played everyone in my family’s played at rug bigger Rugby Club like at one point in their life so I kind of got taken along when I was about must have been very wee like five or six something like

Um and played again it was just like a boys team though so um didn’t love it that much like you had the odd thing you don’t get past the ball or you don’t get involved in M as much but um yeah so took the half stopped it then got

Dragged back again sort of when they actually had the girls team at bigger um so sort of under 15’s age group and then I’ve played there ever since really um just moved from bigger to harriets um and in and then inber rugby so yeah um played alongside my sister as well

Bigger which was really good one that’s um so yeah that’s sort of how it kind of started so now so now you are in the Scotland team yes yeah so how’s that it’s great to be honest still still can’t really believe it like it’s been a

Total Whirlwind like the way I kind of fell into the squad was pretty much through Co and things like that um so I actually only got my starting spot through the other girl um tested positive for covid so wasn’t um obviously allowed to play so they’re

Like right bring in the Young Guns so I started on my first cap and then um yeah been integrated into the squad since then kind of but know it’s was like yeah strange sort of time so what age were you when you uh 18 you were 18 you get

Your first cap for Scotland yeah so it was my 19th birthday the following week so just got it before I was 19 just no more no that’s incredible how many caps are you on now uh um I think I know how many well if the S website’s right I

Know um 14 yeah right it says what is caps the number of games played yeah mhm yeah so okay so 14 caps and how many points have you scored oh my God I know five 15 you’ve scored three tries for Scotland oh I forgot about the other two okay

Yeah they the most recent on is one of the your tries your profile picture that’s like you’re looking up yeah okay yeah yeah that looks like a good one you look very happy but quite exciting you know yeah for Scotland that makes you the best rugby player in the

House is that fair to say yeah we got the brag and rights there I think yeah I was I was scanning somewhere today your father called Jim yep yeah I was scanning some today no bad stories uh I promise about the the Chapa scanning for new your father from tuore oh go Tom

Anderson Tom Nelson okay does the Scotland team well I don’t think he’s in the Scotland team this year but he has been previously and what was it said that your father would been the team the first year bigger one the Highland show does that sound right right yeah it

Could have been dad was Dad loved his T yeah I’m so something like that Tom said he was in the team the first year that bigger won it and obviously from then bigger are the tug of war team am I right in saying that tell me if I’m

Wrong I’m not totally up with tug of war for anyone wondering actually tug of war tug of everyone knows tug of war I don’t know is that worldwide uh yeah pull a rope tuer was worldwide isn’t it we have a lot of American FS as well I

Don’t know I feel like it sounds more of a it’s a very Scottish thing I mean Scotland are World IND champ I can’t imagine other country using the word tug for the listeners at home I could you explain what tug means P to pill something yeah the that’s good

Yeah yeah so yeah it sounds like a Scottish word is what I meant yeah yeah that is a as guys listening is Tug a Scottish word you have really is it Scots or is it SL is it Scots or slang how a tug what would that mean um okay

Uh oh stop it right that’s that’s one for somebody to answer you really got me in that do you know the answer no no clue tug does it happen H does it happen no it can’t SC it can’t be Scottish words cuz competition is called tug of war unless we invented

Tug maybe it’s another Scottish invention there so many it probably hey we we invented everything yeah we probably did add that to golf and all things okay crystallic extra high energy feed blocks have been providing high energy supplementation to use lambs and Rams in the UK since 1978 packed full of protein vitamins

Minerals and Trace elements crysx extra high energy has been been proven to increase live lamb numbers and improve lamb daily live weight gain at a cost of only 4 to 7 P per U per day to view the full crysx range and find your nearest stockist visit crys x-g

Global.com and speaking on Scottish inventions rugby sevens mhm what about rugby sevens you ever played that I have yeah that’s actually how I got into Scotland well before 15s I played sevens for Scotland first um uh yeah so love sevens not as not fit

Enough to do it so I’m I’m a complete I don’t know much about rugby at all don’t know if I’m giving off that Vibe so what what is what is 15s what is seven private schools well there no much oh you hockey hockey of course girls are

Hockey of course are you private school no bigger High School bigger basically basically is private school oh bigger high school but rough show quite rough is it yeah bigger quite a rough area is it not no bigger’s uh I it’s got it got it rough Parts in this Posh

Part in the Posh Parts whenever I think of bigger I think of that like horrible slogan that they use that like glas Go’s big bit bigger bigger bigger yeah Oh I thought like I like it that’s why it sticks my head that’s clever they’ve got lovely um public toilets do they mhm

Really clean how would you know from the show been from the show no just from driving through you just drive to places to use public toilets oh on the way somewhere when we were we we would go through bigger to go to Edinburgh right

Okay I was going I was going to say that public toilets have a close relationship with the world tug so it’s like very suspicious I I must say what are the public toilets like do you know uh well you would probably need to why why would

You your house is it would be weird if you didn’t know good chip shop as well yeah good chip shop good ice cream give give the Chip Shop a shout out what’s the name of it uh Town head Town head chippy to chippy Town head chippy there you go that’ll be

Viral next week and so rugby 7 you started about that are you fast um I’m not fast over like 10 m but once I get going I’m quite fast yeah so sorry what is the difference between the seven um yeah so like sevens is seven players on

The pitch MH whereas 15s is 15 players on the pitch makes sense so just sens is a lot more faster like more space yeah exciting to watch but I I I don’t particularly like it that much it’s I like watching like Melrose or that you the smaller I don’t like I

Don’t the world tour that they do I’m not that big a fan it’s quite a social sort of thing like all the events are like folk dress up and go to watch them and they a lot of drinking and stuff 15s is like that too there a lot of drinking

At allby things but yeah yeah I suppose it as like social thing it’s like cuz there’s so many games in a day and yeah that’s another thing the games are it’s a big money raiser for clubs yeah it’s like 7 minutes each half so a normal

Rugby game is 80 minutes a 15 game is 80 minutes where seven is 14 minutes right okay fast you know you’ve got very quick time to get points and it’s another game and it keeps exciting for spectators it’s just it is for the spectator that’s the thing it’s it’s a good money maker

For clubs like Mel Rose and the borders have a big series like the the king of the sevens it’s called King of the sevens do they have a king of do they have a queen of the sevens no they don’t they’re s of there’s no T um at Melrose

There is now but it’s not called queen of but there you go that could be good on Melrose for doing that yeah definitely so you did a b of sevens you’ve got about b a pace over a longer distance what position are you playing

Um in sevens or no in 15s in 15s I’m playing playing outside Center oh it says inside Center on does it on your Scottish Prof that’s wrong there you go let’s get that changed H 13 so 12 is inside Center 13 outside Center um but I actually had never played 13 until my

First cap oh like at Club I’d always played Phil back or like 10 or something like that and then when I brought into the Scotland setup they were like actually want you to play 13 and then two weeks later I’m played in 13 against Wales like oh

but that’s quite a common thing because 10 like 10 is such a competitive position yeah and it’s common weather players you get Owen Farrell has been bumped I say he’s bumped out to 13 he’s a very good 10 as well but quite often plays out he’s my B 12 right enough

Inside Center who’s out Hugh Jones just now yeah or Chris Harris maybe yeah those two so yeah you’re uh you could I was going to say your inside Center maybe a bit more skillful but maybe that’s unfair if you played at 10 but it’s a tricky position you there lots of

Examples of that but uh so you you get moved to that I played it just Club level when I was younger played it at number eight loved it because you don’t actually get hurt in the scrum you know you just hang off the back you know it’s

It’s really easy you push from the back but there’s nobody pushing you no you know and you get your break offs and you get straight back into the action you’re not when the scrum collapses you just let go and go so eight is a great you know the back

Row in general is a great position in rugby and I used to absolutely love it but I did although the forers do the majority of the work the back take some big hits like and have to put in some big big tackles you know like if you’re outside Center there’s a good chance

That the person coming at you is coming to you at PACE mhm yeah this is it I think for backs defending you’ve got a lot more space and it’s like harder to defend whereas forwards are a lot more like tight cont yeah so there’s yeah good and bad things about for but I’m

Glad I’m I’m where I am see if I was in a mall or anything I actually would not know what to do at all but and I me you know women’s rugby and is such a touchy subject with FOC is the women’s thing equal pay is the one that gets vot wound

Up but you know we’ve actually said in this podcast before I’m a big believer in equal pay at National level MH because take the SRU for example they can easily split the money between the two size now I know they have a bigger return the men’s game in

Terms of that and I’m not saying you have to do a 50/50 of the funds but they can easily move a big chunk over to the women’s side and pay women pay women full time to make us compete with the likes of England cuz I think it just now

We get absolutely destroyed by England uh yeah is the women’s setion starts in a few weeks after the men’s you’re going to be playing in that yeah which is it’s annoying it’s at L time but we’ll not talk about it I think I think there’s certain things that are okay to

Miss L for and playing in the Six Nations is definitely one of them so in that six nations and we’ll talk let’s let’s stick on the money thing at first the big thing is equal pay but I really do believe now at Club level I am more on the the side of you

Know there has to be a balance if if the men’s game brings in so much money you have to pay the men more because you need to attract those players to keep it at that level but at the national thing when it’s just about playing for your country they can easily siphon more

Money off the men’s game to bring that is why England are dominating yeah because they’re all professional athletes MH but why do why do the men’s games attract more well part of it because they’ve had many many more years of training and evolution to get very good at it well no

And rug B particular is more of a brutal physical sport so you’re going to see the bigger hits you’re going to see the faster Runners the the you’re going to see the crazy fin Russell passes that is is a strength based thing you know whereas but you look at football now right I

Watched the women’s football thing that day the level now is way up from where it was 10 years ago yeah and that that’s cuz they’re putting money into it and Rugby’s the same England have been putting money into it for a while and now they are dominating teams so England

Have been putting money into their women’s they’re world champions are they not yeah oh no New Zealand beat New Zealand beat them that’s right right to the death was it a one I was at it where you yeah I bet was in New Zealand wasn’t

It not I was at the World Cup but we got knocked way way before that you were actually playing for Scotland I you were playing for Scotland back then that was two years ago last year um two years two years ago right so you’ve been to World

Cup already just SK over I know right I know I feel like we need a timeline so what age are you now 20 20 so oh it’s only been two years sorry that is unreal um yeah I know it’s still can’t really believe it it feels

Like quite a like a we while ago but or it feels like it doesn’t even it didn’t even happen it feel like it’s just dream okay it’s the same as the men yeah very true very true it’s the same as the men so it doesn’t yeah um what was New

Zealand like oh incredible so cool I did a month sort of traveling post us getting kicked or um getting knocked out out dumped out which was so cool cuz the World Cup was based in ockland so we were kind of based up and around there and then um went and traveled to South

Iseland as well um which was which was so cool like we went to Christ Christ Church show so I think it’s meant to be like the equivalent of the Highland show oh cool um which yeah it was really cool so different um but yeah really really

Cool to see and what way what how is it different um like the Sheep are so so different like they’re all I don’t know I can’t describe it CU just what we’re the Sheep kind of we’re used to they’re like all like really woly and like I

Don’t it’s really really Wily no theirs are are um and there’s a lot of like there’s like um axe no what’s it like ax and all that Timber Sports yeah that’s that’s like lumbering up Timber Sports lumbar I think I was going to say there but

That’s your back um yeah so like these like guys racing to how quickly they can chop this big tree down and all this it’s like yeah just different loads of different kind of stuff any tug of- War uh no no tug of- War there’s some bull riders though stuff like that was really

Cool to see in New Zealand yeah that terrifies me yeah those guys are scary they didn’t get hot H not no not when I think they were all really good cuz they’re oh it’s more of like an exhibition things are different in New Zealand yeah very M very different way

Kind farming and stuff did you go and see where the hobbits are no I didn’t never had time credit that’s to your credit oh okay did you go and see where the hobbits are no good no no no harm to anyone who’s been to see where the hobit are can I

Just say or any Hobbit’s Ling or any Hobbit’s listening of course no offense to our Hobbit F fans but that’s not that’s not offensive what is a hobbit get hay feet that’s what makes some a hobbit yeah hairy feet surely that is not the big the definition the definition well they

Hairy feet they’re they’re wee bit short they’re from the Shire like you and I uh do you class yourself as being from the sh what you lsh Lano Shire oh there you go you’re from a but you’re too tall H and they also really don’t like rings they’re all

Going about destroying rings so yeah yeah they’re are strange people anyway we love we tangent on here back to so you traveled New Zealand after getting dumped the World Cup was that with some of the team sorry to interrupt you and no that was my partner Angus so he came

Out to watch some of the games and yep strong name strong Scottish name um and then yeah we did a bit of he has family down in Duneden so we stayed with them um so we it was quite rushed we had like a month to kind of get around the whole

Of the South Island which obviously we didn’t see everything but we got around most of the main cities and stuff like that which was really cool um yeah and then back home does angus play rugby yeah he does as well uhhuh for for Scotland not for Scotland no not

Scotland Gala for Gala G okay that’s proba good level down there pretty yeah um not one so he quite often plays against my brothers right okay bigger g bigger is so that one’s below the Premiership is it yeah one below the prime okay so like uh David Andrew that

We mentioned earlier he plays with Mar that’s the prime that’s the premier so he’s like one one above that okay um so yeah still quite a good level oh absolutely I’m absolutely sure that isn’t it’s nice to you have that in common as well do you take does he come

And watch your games he does yeah usually usually try to go watch each other um each other’s games is that how you met meet no we met at Sor you SE edra and that’s what you’re doing just now yeah you’ve got so many interests in one perfect match perfect perfect get

Get the wedding organized how many acres have you gotten how many who’s got the most acres is he a has he got a farm yes is it how many siblings has he got one Geral less of a Geral but that’s find less of a many acres has he got

Uh 200 OD it’s not bad just do it just many how many acres have you got H like 500 but Jam’s already claimed that so ah there we go 500 a big that’s 10 25 each not bad that’s all right that’s all right not to be sniffed at plus your 100

Fangus 200 it looks good get it get heather W sort out for you we’ll line you up with Heather and we had last week get married it makes things a lot more straightforward causing family trouble it’ll be fine be fine so no back back to rugby though yeah because I

We’ll talk about your Sr study cure and I think that’ll be really good for some people to hear about that as well but I want to talk about we touched on the pay thing yeah no definitely and the fact that England are absolutely hammering us you know because they’re full team as as

Fulltime yeah full-time rugby players am I right in saying that some of the Scotland team are now full time so yeah we are there’s I think there’s 30 or 32 professional contracts now so but this has just come in in the last two years whereas England are about 10 years 50

Years um which is hard to keep up with but we’re definitely on the right track at heading in the same direction hopefully it’s just a shame we’re as far behind um cuz you’re like a Fran and New Zealand they are all kind of catching up with or similar to England newal You

Could argue New Zealand are better better yeah this is true they did beat them at the World Cup quite close right enough but so see out of those 32 how many will be fulltime um so I think like pretty much all of them but a lot of girls still because touching on

The money a lot of us still have occupations on the site so I’m studying there’s a lot of people who still have a day job like there’s a few vets in the team a few lawyers like that kind of thing so anyway then you know your rugby won’t

Last forever so your career and what so what is the money like it’s liveable definitely like not it’s a droping otion compared to the mains to be honest yeah so what what would roughly be would the males be getting paid oh that’s crazy it’s like a football when Finn Russell was in France

He was on a million quid a year he’s on less now I believe Al I think he’s still the highest paid player in the Premiership yeah or World maybe highest player in the world at bath is he could be you you would know when I think about

It he has the flare like that the other players itself it’s all about well it’s about winning but also he sells tickets like you know in the price of a rugby ticket crazy but I don’t mind that too CU it you know keeps a lot of the ref Raff out

But well one thing you don’t see is like folk throwing pains about or fighting in The Concourse and that like it’s it’s great that way like what is that that’s not to do with how much a ticket is cuz football games and stuff are expensive too H they’re not as expensive as the

Rugby I would they’re nowhere near as expensive as a rugby but you know like you’re going see you come out for 24 quid or something a rugby game like would be 70 well for Scotland England would be 70 quid for a a average seat yeah but then what about Scotland England football

Cheaper I get it still 40 quid maybe most 30 something yeah it’s different it’s different folk it’s it’s you’re aiming football’s A working class sport Rugby’s a middle class sport why is that private it’s a private school sport I know but why that is a very good

Question cuz football in rugby it’s not like one needs a huge amount more equipment or things than the other like there’s not a huge amount of cost in one compared to the other you know it is a very good question why is why is rugby

For the middle class why is it a private school sport why don’t know that is a good I know like I’d imagine a lot of the rugby players in would a lot of the rugby players in Scotland team be from private schools yeah absolutely yeah

Yeah um cuz like we when I was younger my school played High School of Glasgow which is a a private school pretty big into rugby and we half time fast wanted to stop bad yeah well at half time it was like 6 to0 and the ref like will we do the second

Half and the coach was like do you want to do the second half and they’re like well like we couldn’t like lose face so we’re like yeah and then we just got hammered again yeah I you know it was that kind of way they started to ease

Off cuz they felt so bad about it point it’s not even fun for them yeah yeah they were just they were huge man they were just machines like so yeah that’s when I realized private school was such a core for rugby but I don’t that is there probably will be an answer it’ll

Be like a lot of things it’s just always been that way yeah old traditions you know but H yeah good question if anyone knows the answer drop us a comment let us know why but you know there’s still some good working class players like yourself like yourself some some some

From lowly Beginnings yeah so we’re kind of touching on the the contracts there I like this chat about you know you’ve you’ve got your contract now he a fulltime which is how it should be orbe some people still H doing jobs on the side yeah but you also play with Edinburgh rugby mhm

How did so you went from bigger to Edinburgh is that right um Harriet’s in between so um yeah when I first got into the national team squads bigger is in I think they were in that two at the time they’ve now been since been promoted but still it wasn’t the best level of

Rugby um so moved to harriets which is a Premiership team and and then played there and then they’ve brought in this new initiative the Celtic challenge or the Celtic cup which is essentially we’ve got two Irish teams two Welsh teams and two Scottish teams so it kind of Misses out England because they’ve

Got quite a good League there already okay um so then we all sort of play a round robin kind of type thing um just to the m I think the main point of it is to bridge the gap between the domestic game or the club game in Ireland Wales

And Scotland and then your International level cuz like I was saying England they’ve got their aliance Prime I think it’s got a new sponsor now but and that’s what it used to be called called is the best women’s league in the world for rugby so um like I’m the only

Scottish player still playing Club rugby in Scotland everyone else in the national team plays their Club rugby in England because the level’s so much better and and I’m just up here because of uni still but yeah everyone’s down in England playing the rugby which is yeah it’s it’s a it’s a difficult one

Because you want your makes sense you want your national team as good as it can be and and if like you’re saying if Edinburgh and and Glasgow I think it’s Edinburgh and glasgo the two te you know if they can build a strong Squad then they can pull players yeah and and there

Be an attraction there but obviously suits you for studying as well to be here exactly and and love yeah as well um so yeah it’s basically to um like some what’s the word to to imitate that League that England have so that Scotland England have got something like that similar to

That level before there’s the jump to your yeah to pitch these two big Scottish teams against similar level clubs rather just hammering everybody else every week and not really advancing a little bit Yeah Yeah cuz I think in and glaso just Hammer every other women’s team do you play other women’s

Team so they they’ve just come in recently before it was literally just the Premiership which is like your harriets um Sterling County like these kind of teams okay so and and glas just come in so before that was the Premiership was the highest level of women’s

Rugby um in Scotland which isn’t isn’t a very good level in comparison to the English league okay so it’s cool that they they’ve brought this in so that girls in Scotland have an opportunity to play at a higher level without having to go down to England okay yeah yeah yeah

Um and in the hope that keeping more girls in Scotland girls see other females playing for in Glasgow and mean like oh I could do that when I’m older and the hope that it turns into a similar like with the men’s where it’s a professional side um but again that is

Far down the line I don’t really know what it’ll look like cuz it’s just the first year but it’s definitely a step in the right direction yeah um it’s interesting is that a paid gig but it’s interesting know how the structure of women’s rugby is is it are

You paid at Club level or just inter or as part of your contract International you have to play at a certain Club so you’re it’s different to football and stuff like you’re for the ntion you’re contracted by your nation and then you get payments from Club whereas football

Is you’re contracted by your club and then you just get like a day rate from your nation so it’s a bit backwards that way whereas most other sports are but then Club Rugby Club football is bigger than International Football out with perhaps World Cup of course whereas International Rugby is far bigger than

Club rugby backward that way as see it flipped the other way yeah and it’s it’s one of those things like the lionesses success breeds success M like so like I I have no doubt that female football in England is absolutely booming off the back of the success from

The euros and then the World Cup final like they’ll want to be a lioness like and it’s the same like England rugby they see them you know okay they came they fell a little bit short of the World Cup but you know this they come so close they’re doing so well they’re

Smashing the Six Nations you know that inspires people to come and do it it’s the same with Scotland’s women if we can invest to you know with that but you need just try and get a way bit of success and it just blows up you know it’s like when Andy Murray’s doing well

Every oh everybody wants to be a tennis player everybody wants to be a tennis player yeah um quite rightly as well I’d love to get the WIS in it would you that’s great you play tennis I’ve I’ve played tennis but like other people I watch wom and go

IIs EAS i g tennis is hard Serv serving is a big thing the fitness I was all right at but serving like try and nail a hard a good Ser in the wi box like Ace is that what they call it well that’s if the little guy doesn’t hit it but just

Getting it over the net eventually we just just hitting the ball over the net that was but and it has to go in the we box on the other side acoss but eventually just like we underhand both agreed like right we’re not we’re not Andy just we under hand

I’ll under hand seven don’t hit it back too hard the first one so that’s how it went um but yeah so rugby and even I feel it like when I go and watch the rugby I start convinc myself I could go back and play a we game you know I could go back

And do it you could no I’m too old now no you’re not if I change direction too fast like my body just crap like my something just snaps you I have to take three steps I see from my brain deciding I need to go that way I need to take a

Three so we lag I need to take three steps slowing me down to then change and go that way I can’t just suddenly change direction like Brian Adco like it wouldn’t work um my older brother’s like that he played rugby loads as well but I think now that Mom and Dad are getting

Older he’s sort of had to stop his rugby just cuz it’s like if you get injured then like the farm wouldn’t function without him so it’s like a little bit like he’s a really good rug player as well but he’s kind of just hung up his boots because like you say you’re too

Valuable for your work really absolutely that is you know I do say CM plays rugby at Club level that are in farming fair play to you it’s Madness I know see unless unless you’re getting paid to do it or you have a chance of doing something big with it yeah like fair

Enough but if if you don’t like M you know a broken leg I know Madness you know a bad concussion a snap neck is you know lot of Old Farmers and that had bad rugby injuries and you know how much more likely are you to have an injury

Like that playing rugby than you are working on the farm a lot do you think absolutely if you looked up Farm far accidents I am did we talk about this in the podcast no no so so I don’t know if you’ve seen the podcast his dad did a podcast right

And uh there was a so there’s a really emotional bit where um it was really nice he was talking about when he when he leaves and and has to sell the place or whatever move on it’s not actually farming that you’ll miss it’s cross flat

Which is the name of the farm and he said he goes on to say I know I know I know every inch of that place and it was it was a it was a great moment but you know I could and I couldn’t say at the

Time but one year before or two years before H John no mind was telling this story I think it’s hilarious a lot of people know this story he uh he was too busy looking at some y while riding in the bike and he rode into a gate post and snapped his

Leg right right before l so it’s like you know it well but you don’t know it that Bloody well so he said I know every inch of that place except where I put that BL post forgot about that I forgot about that one this is a bit embarrassing um

So that’s when that’s what you’re thinking of how more likely to yeah to get H that and that goes back to my thing about folk getting hurt on quad bikes I spoke about with with C is that you know it’s it’s not the quad bikes the problem it’s the person sitting on

It making silly mistakes and it’s easy done easy done so yeah you can always get injured in the farm but I think you have a much higher risk a much higher risk 100% have you ever been injured badly um touchwood nothing no like or God stretch off but you’re lucky cuz you’re young

Like everything’s like loose and you know hamstrings don’t ping do women do women get less like injuries like that um I think women actually are more susceptible to acl’s and stuff saw that which um knee like like major knee ligaments right um and it’s really common in football major they’re

Swinging and kicking hopefully rug it’s not it’s not as bad maybe just the tens the T might go more um so there’s like yeah scary number of acl’s in women’s rugby now um which is like it’s like a year plus there’s a lot in women’s rugby

As well yeah yeah there’s we do a lot of work like before TR before we’re in the gym or anything like that we do prehab which is like single leg knee stuff just to like without any weight just warm up and strengthen it so that you can prevent it

As much as possible because yeah don’t want to don’t want to do that and are you I saw the the Scottish rugby site put your weight on it h what did it say 72 kilos oh about that yeah yeah so hey rugby player don’t mind talking about it

But like I think I mean to me right looking at you I’d say you’re pretty solid okay okay well I’d say she looks like a rugby player you know you could be a center there’s no doubt about it you look you’ve got that look about you

But like when you go up next to the England girls how do you feel like do you feel tiny or I feel a bit scrawny yeah yeah yeah yeah I always wonder I remember you do you ever remember at murfield oh you won forget you’re like 13 years younger you probably weren’t

Even born when I did this that’s mental but used to be the end of the games everyone would run on the pitch they stopped it now but used to be every game more or less everyone were on the pitch and actually ruined it a bit cuz the

Players couldn’t do a you know a lap on and all that kind of stuff but it’s just a stupid thing that folk did so we did it we D boys but I was actually a too St the France European Cup Final I think it was and we did it and know usually the

Players weren’t there but this one they’d won the European Cup so they were on celebrating and were on the pitch and like the guys were right next to me I know I was a we teenage boy but like they were like the biggest guys I’d ever seen massive but watching them like

Watching them from up high cuz you’re up above them and they’re so far away they you get next to them it’s like man everybody’s over like 6’4 I know like that you just need to be big to be good and that’s why I just wonder if women

Was the same you know if if if if you go up against a team like England that has been professional for 10 years there’s a big pool of players to pick from if they are absolute moners yeah I think in the men’s game there’s more of that like the bigger you are

The better you’re going to do whereas in the women’s game it’s maybe not so much that it’s like maybe more agility and I know that’s in the men’s game as well but yeah for your like front row and stuff definitely the bigger the better

Um but yeah I think they are just all a little bit more musly and so what is that is that is that just because there’s a bigger pool they can work they can go at the gym every day you know they can do two sessions at the gym

Every day they can they don’t need to still do their vet work or whatever they put everything because because they have more competition as well like I’m not saying you don’t have to watch your back but you know you’re 20 you’re up and coming you’re you’re whereas those England girls will have somebody

Knocking at the door for their place if they if they miss a gym session or and it’s competition’s great for making you better M oh absolutely you know like like that’s almost Finn Russell’s biggest problem he’s no competition like so he’s so far ahead it’s just so much

Better than everybody else like in that position I you know there is boys that are good at it but like he is like there’s nobody knocking him out that team and you can tell that but look he’s not been at the gym for about eight years Finn Russell I hope so much he

Does cuz I love Finn Russell I absolutely love Finn Russell but and one of the things I love about him is those scrawny be arms has he and he’s he’s just I mean like he just doesn’t I shouldn’t be body Shing at all but I don’t think fin Russell would mind but

Like he has not get the build of the best 10 in the world absolutely you know you compare him to anybody like he’s he he’s nothing like any other 10 in the world but you watch him put hits in like it shows you how much technique

Is important in rugby if you watch Finn Russell like big hits man like his tackling is incredible and and even breaking tackles the way he breaks a tackle and there’s just nothing to him like I’ve had a photo him before and he just stand next to him like he’s just

Like a we guy I know it’s it’s weird it’s incredible so that that’s where Raw Talent and and you know he doesn’t have to worry so much about somebody’s back but with England girl it and it’s good it’s good for improving the sport most forages don’t Supply sheep and cattle

With enough Cobalts copper iodine and selenium critical to digestion immunity reproduction and growth when it comes to supplementation there’s a danger of under or over Supply but when balling with Animax tray Shore you can be sure every animal has enough for up to 6 months in one single application Animax giving what it

Takes so you’re obviously you’re doing your agriculture SRU how are you finding that and also balancing it with the rugby side as well yeah it’s definitely been a challenge like the first like that’s kind of why I went into it more cuz I always wanted to be a

Vet and I don’t think I wouldn’t be smart enough to be a vet anyway but rugby got quite a lot towards like my sixth year or fifth fifth and sixth year at school and so I was like oh I could probably do agriculture alongside my Rugby and I was

Obviously interested in it and I still didn’t really know what I wanted to do so um kind of went into it in that sense and then yeah hats off to everyone at s and at Scotland like I’ve they’ve been so good at like if there’s a lecture I

Need to make like I can get out of Camp to get to or if there’s like like I’m not there for months on end cuz of Six Nations for example like I can still do my uni like it’s quite accommodating um yeah they’d understand yeah and and yeah

So with the agriculture thing how would you actually would you do that you going to do another course after it really yeah kind of it’s like a stepping into whatever you want to do yeah I think so like my plan at the moment is to get my

Four years and then hopefully do a postgrad and something don’t know what that’ll be at all worry about that after rugby hopefully of course I um but yeah I think most folk like a lot of people in more course are um farmer boys who are going home after the 3 years to take

On the farm so it’s a really valuable course in that sense but I don’t know like a lot of my friends do rural business management which is probably leads you into more jobs like your surveying and all that kind of thing um which probably gives you more options by

The time I just really loved our farming and Agriculture and knew i’ enjoy it so I kind of went with it and the thing about having an undergrad under your belill is even if you don’t go straight into the postgrad you can always like come back

To it in a few years and you don’t have to start from scratch definitely yeah so I don’t know what I’m going to do with it but um yeah the plan is hopefully to get that get that done well I still can do rugby the same time um and then worry

About a job after that I think that’s absolutely bang on like just focusing the rugby because you have the rest of your life yeah to worry about jobs and what you’re going to do yeah well this is it I think Mom and Dad are big Believers that I should put everything

Into my Rugby the now because it’s in a in the grand scheme things it’s such a small portion of your life that you’re you’re fit enough to do it and like able to do it so it’s like why why put it off for a few years for something else when

You could do that like down the line absolutely so that’s the mindset I’m kind of taking at the moment with it no I think that’s great good perington well done J what your mom’s name Mara Mara Martha well is is it Marth Mara did you say name

Martha but she gets called Mara Jim and Mara great perington big shout out to you no cuz I would be the same like never mind anything else it’s just and that’s one thing I do not mind spending the money on you know with the boys is

Like if they get have any chance at a sport because like for me sport is everything to me like it is just the ultimate test of of of everything it’s just like it is like the old fion you know if we look back where we used to be

Hunter gatherers and all that right we don’t have that now now we’ve got sport you know you find out who the best man is through sport MH you know and that’s that’s what I was loving and and there’s always a debate and you hear folks say things like you know it’s crazy what

These footballers get and things like that you know so it’s crazy that Cristiano Ronaldo gets he’s on 200 million a year or something now what but like folks but you imagine the planet has 7 billion people right uhhuh and there’s nobody else can do what he does

Now some would say Messi okay but Messi’s Al Messi’s own more money than Ronaldo so I can’t get on board with that well you’re the only P You’re the whole planet the most popular sport in the world that virtually every little boy a lot of little girls but every little boy

Tries or plays at some point no matter what nation you’re in no matter how poor you are some of the best Po in the world come from places like Africa but you’re the best at it mhm like how you even put a price in that well I just think 200 million is a

Pck is it there’s people there’s people making more than that just by uh selling advertising space on Facebook or coming up with an app you know there’s people making billions yeah but they’ve made they’re making that money whereas he’s he’s not if they’ve gone to that if

They’ve come up with the idea there is all passive income now his actually has to go out and do it yeah yeah okay like folk I think folk have a terrible attitude sometimes towards sports stars like oh it’s a disgraceful amount of money it’s like they’re doing something

That nobody else can do do you know you know what I mean it’s ridiculous he gets that if ridiculous he gets that when um nussies is the one that get talked about a lot nussies only get this now nussies as one of the ultimate jobs there are

Right but lots of people can be a Nur I couldn’t but lots of people can I couldn’t do it lots of people do it but you know what I mean a lot more people could be on us than can do what premiership footballers do so what we’re

Saying is we should pay more for talent well we do pay more for talent so you agree with that that talented people naturally talented people should get paid more no it’s not just about Talent you do the hard work Ronaldo is where he is what about Finn Russell you’re saying

He doesn’t has just natural Talent yeah so yeah yeah yeah but I like okay okay but it’s not about Talent OR about how hard you work about what you do in the pitch like it doesn’t matter if you’re you have no Talent at all if you’re a

Kicking 50 22s like Finn Russell does every week or um you are scoring goals with Ronaldo does if you have no talent but you just make it happen who cares that is your talent that it’s all it’s the end result is all that matters whether you work hard or not you know

Whether you’re F wrest you just turn up you know good for a few be good for a few be wind the manager up still turn up and have a a great game sometimes doesn’t but he just shrugs it off yeah you know what I mean it’s like you’re

Doing something nobody else can do I think you know how do you put a price on those things I yeah I I understand it from both points I do think though some people like but it’s just a game at the end of the day so why does he get why

Does he get that amount of money I hear you so like for example a nurse they’re actually making a difference they’re doing something there helping with People’s Health whereas there’s no outcome to playing a sport entertainment but I don’t know and I agree with you I

Am not for one second saying the n does a far more important job than yeah I am absolutely saying that absolutely saying that but like you’re talking about massive businesses so you imagine like like you’re going about these footballs here like look at bankers and all that

Right you imagine you’ve got these two big businesses let’s say you’ve get HSBC and you’ve got Bank of Scotland okay or santand or whatever right and there’s this guy that is the best at running those businesses that ever lived you know what I mean mhm what price do they put on getting that

Guy do you know what I mean what’s that guy wor both these companies make make multi multi-millions there’s no price they’ll pay whatever and also to be the best they want to be the best to make more profits you know I mean the Saudi league is making a fortune offer there’s

No way they’ll not be running at a loss paying him no and just to link it back back into farming are we doing farming what um it’s like the pedigree side what is the point uh yeah well uh I suppose it’s like the pedigree side in terms of money

Just kind of goes yeah it’s the big guys amongst themselves and that’s like football with the top players and there’s no actual beneficial outcome apart from just oh cuz just keeps going around the money keeps going around and it’s just about it’s just about producing better beasts like it’s uh for aesthetic

Purposes it’s like a sport it’s like competition it’s like you just got to win yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah oh there’s a lot of that in that stuff as well yeah you just want to win and the guys will pay whatever they need to pay to win and

It’s like it’s like teams want football players yeah what did you think about that we link back into farming you like it yeah I thought you look terrified though in case you said something wrong I was I know you started talk about the pedig guys and you T stop going oh no

I’ve got a sale on Saturday I don’t want to ruffle any further how about my dad um no so yeah uh but back to so we’ve talked about Christiano Ronaldo you know good money and rugby obviously it doesn’t bring in as much money as football but it’s good they put money in

To you guys and the women’s game you won Player of the Year mhm for this year3 no 22 23 22 23 yeah so not only do we have a Scotland International we have the best play on the team last season you you won’t say that but someone has

Decided that and I’ve gave you that award I think I’ve got all the farming Community to thank for for that oh is it a public vote yeah oh right I didn’t even vote I didn’t know it was a public vote I just saw on in the Scottish rugby

Instagram that you had won it and I thought that’s class cuz you’re a you’re a farmer so that’s good I know um okay right so it’s a public we need to watch out for next year gives a shout podcast you you’ll win every year now I have got

To mention though cuz I’m going to get a hard no I won’t get a hard time for getting you on but do you know Kieran Bell mhm what’s Kieran like she’s good yeah really good I heard she’s rapid yeah she’s faster than me definitely is

She yeah is she play Wing is she not Yeah we actually play for enra together do you right okay who’s better oh um we’ve got different strs she’s a good sport she I like sports that are like I’m the best mhm do you know other walks

Are life fol he’ll be better but Sports is like I’m the best do you want to say you’re the best yeah but got be in mind her dad will watch this yeah exactly you know who’s dad is no Arie Bell oh from oh bun so yeah oh so that’s you’s sister yeah you

Bill right okay okay okay so but she’s been come up through she played sevens Scotland sevens right yeah um I’m sure she did AR would always tell us St I know you’ll watch this 100% watch this I’m giving you a shout out mate andone doesn’t know AR

Bill his daughter place for Scotland so there go in case he hasn’t told absolutely everyone H he’s a very proud father which is great so she’s a good she’s rapid you used to always say that she was rapid yeah her we we’re were playing at the weekend together and I think out of

Nine carries she made eight line breaks or something like that is that right yeah like ridiculous stats she’s really good playing on the wing yeah on the wing right okay brilliant yeah yeah is she quite agile yeah definitely okay good no that’s so there you go that’s

Interesting so we might make her player of the year next year just to keep balance in the farming Community yeah so we have two far how many other Farmers is there any other Farmers I don’t think so no justu and Kieran from farming stock yeah I think so right that’s

Interesting yeah I thought it’d be more than that actually but no yeah yeah no I saw that actually I thought it’d be quite big Okay so we’ve covered that I thought better get that in cuz I’ll get a nudge about you know not mentioning last so she’s a rising star as well uh

Where do you see yourself going with this rugby career then well what’s the dream they announced the women’s Lions tour did you hear about this exciting I did not know the lion I call it I don’t know what they’re going to call it that’s a nightmare that is a nightmare

What are the chances of that you can’t call it the L it would be perfect as well it would oh you could still do it no no you can’t because it’s sing like in England it’s probably copyrighted or something um so it is it’s just been released that they’re doing this

2027 um and it’ll be to New Zealand to play the Black FS cuz they’re kind of the biggest competition really um is it the silver FS or the black FS uh oh I don’t know I thought it was the black FS it’s the black FS or maybe

Sevens are silver FS I don’t actually know okay right okay that’s fine small details yeah um so yeah that’s definitely a big goal cuz it’s like our world cup is next summer and then so that’ll probably that England you’ll be doing that one tour after that we no this is Stoke

Leads um yeah so basically what was I talking about there you’re talking about trying to get in the lion s team the the Lions the ladies Lions to what are we going to call that I know I know ladies Lions the Tigers no no tigle sounds quite Around what are you going to call it gorillas what where’s that come from that’s one the weirdest things youve ever ever thinking like you know you want to be like a tough animal like a good it’s the least least feminine animal though it has to be feminine

That’s a tiger’s quite feminine you know mostly like in the jungle well the Jungle Book it’s a guy um but I always feel like Panther Panthers it has to see lines is lines is is British yeah British and ours lines so it has to be like a British animal that Scottish national

Animal do you know what our national animal is unicorn the Unicorn no that’s too like okay go folks is not an idea I’m trying to WR my brain I think what you could H you could call this to her you’re coming back to gorilla aren’t You so you might try and go in the the British gorillas yes that no that’s like a terrorist group no let’s the cat dogs G come on no no okay okay right so you want to be on the the let’s just call it the ladies lines toour yes um definitely so

I think the World Cup next year will be a big factor in like coaches picking that cuz the Lions is the following summer so that’s in that’s in the near future basically so definitely want to like I want to give my 100% to it like there’s no I don’t think there’s any

Point in putting the hard work in if you’re not trying to be the best you can be you know what I mean so definitely like yeah just keep doing it for as long as I can and and see where it takes me but yeah I don’t know to be honest do

You know the other inside centers outside centers like do you know um like you pretty clued up in who your competition is for that lines tour yeah yeah okay i’ would say so I think who’s the best inside Center and the British in the selection pool the outside Center yeah the English outside

Center yeah but them in nearly every position is it well this is it it’s like surely it’s just going to be the red the red roses is what the English um rugby team gets called so surely it’ll just be them and then like a few honorary Scots or I would think

British lines will be theeland team maybe Russell like I mean there’ll be no there’ll be next no Welsh in it I would say no offense to our Welsh fans or but I mean they’d be mad to take cuz the liance tours where is it is Australia it’s Australia but

It’s TW I trying to think when the last lines tour was now it must be next year yes it’ll be yeah cuz if World Cup was last year two years yeah yeah so the Lance tours next year so I mean the way Islands going like they’re going to

White they’re absolutely walk Flo with this Six Nations now so i’ imagine it we’ll just be an island team and then might bring Finn Russell for the crack you know what’s the Scottish team called ER the women’s team yeah H we don’t really have a name like the so

Unprofessional they don’t even a nickname yet right we need their name well the the it used to be called the thistles but yeah you don’t like it I don’t I just don’t think catches on like like the red Rosies yeah or the Lions or the gorillas

The gorillas gorillas we go why did they call the Scotland team gorillas or some lassy said in the podcast was hilarious this is how nicknames stick by the way just watch case so folks we need a good nickname for the ladies Scotland rugby team y England are the red Rosies what

Are what are some other nicknames give us some uh black ferns are your new zealanders yeah black ferns which doesn’t make sense cuz the F’s silver but that’s a good Nick and it seems to be quite on the theme of like flowers and plants yeah true foliage but rugby

Is like that isn’t it cuz rugby have Island you’ve got a shamrock you think their logos emblems yeah Wales you’ve got the leaks no the leaks no it’s not leaks whales are famous for leaks can I just say are they can I just no they’re not they absolutely are no they’re not

They absolutely are where do we ever when I need more than that I don’t even have a phone to look whales you beat the whales okay any listening audio I’ve just grabbed my laptop have a quick look at this give us some more examples well H England are

Rosies yep H whales are Welsh flower there’s a flower on their daffodil obviously daffodil yeah but it’s not a daffodil that’s on the the Crest is it is it not a dragon no not in there rugby whales H shut logo Crest shut Crest see what’s on

Here yeah it’s like a you see it it’s like a crow oh it’s flowers at the top of a crown is it let’s see Three Feathers it’s Three Feathers sorry sorry Welsh guys I always thought feathers I thought it was like three leaks there’s three f is whales famous

For leak oh okay he’s trying to get out of it cuz fam what is whales famous for do leaks cuz then you’ll probably find one weird article why is a is a leak a Welsh symbol the leak has been associated with Wales for hundreds of years it thought

That the patron saint of Wales St David told Welsh soldiers to wear the leak on their helmets so that they could better spot each other when in battle against the Saxons who weree similar armor how do you know that I give it to you I hand

It to you I hand it to you I know my history okay but can I just side note do you were you more meaning just for producing leaks or no I knew it was like a they they have leaks on things like they do they have leaks on things it is there’s

Always been an association with leaks and and whales so we have Welsh with the Leakes and the daffodils mhm the English with the rosies Irish with a shamrock but then they just going to say Scotland and pil yeah Scotland F but you were asking what are all the flowers you said

Why is are flers I’m just talking them so they do they’ve all get I don’t know about the European teams but um Australia’s Got Australia is just a wabby I don’t think they have maybe they have a flow I don’t know right so right so there we go let’s just work some

Tangent this one let’s get us we’re over an hour already let’s get as a nickname for SC out this podcast I want a nickname for the Scottish ladies team I can’t think of any of what would you like it to be um just something that’s catchy feel

Like they’ll stick but it the problem is it has to be Scottish The Tartan Tartan Army that’s the footballers in it the T you want bation The Tartan T I would have said that I said that don’t cancel me I said that oh my God

The T I don’t think that would go in no I don’t think that would go well right we’ll come up we’ll we’ll come up with something H the viewers will come up with something so okay lines tour yeah 20y old just now you’ll be tter to then

Prim me a life no reason why not hopefully who who is the outside Center for England can you name her um Meg Jones or Helena Roland oh so they’ve got two yeah I they probably got like four in the in the back that’s the terrifying thing why doesn’t Scotland why don’t we

Start doing like what you know towns end in the team are doing and just been like okay you know all the Scottish qualified people yeah I know like you’ve got a great granny that was Scottish have you ever ate a haggus too you you can be that’s all that’s all they did with

V they just sat them down like eat this and then you can play for Scotland that’s that’s how these national teams work now it’s crazy oh I know I mean I’m not saying half our team but the World Cup we had more players from other nations than any other team Scotland had

More forign I’m not saying foreign players CU they have a link to Scotland but we had more foreign players than any other team at the World Cup that’s wild yeah yeah I know I was amazed I was shocked actually I know to hear that stat so yeah that’s what Scottish do you

Have any foreign players uh yeah like well people from England are got qualified yeah yeah so we have started doing that already okay that’s good yeah yeah that’s what’s your space you might end that you get to never mind never mind the alliance too you might

    1. Great podcast again!

One of the reasons rugby is popular in private schools was because the rules were first written down and developed in Rugby School in England, this then spread to all the other private schools so they had people to play against. Due to the physicality of the sport there is also a theory that it was popular in private schools as it developed young men physically and mentally for becoming professional Army Officers, as if you could play rugby you could probably hold your own during the physical demands of combat, and private schools have always provided a lot of people to become Army Officers. One of the ways rugby was spread around the world was through the Army teaching people so they could then play them.

    2. This wasn’t for the farming fans it was so for cammy was great watching his wee excitement with all the rugby chat n a wee man crush on Finn Russell lol 😜

    3. Purple thistles
      The grey hens (female grouse)
      The Capercaillies
      Gray mares
      Tartan belles
      The wildcats

It’s hard to think of a name that isn’t patronising and naff!

    4. Tug is quite an international word. You hear it worldwide especially in shipping, the tugboats that help dock the massive ocean going cargo ships are usually just called tugs and not the full tugboats.
Iona was proper on fire this episode with the gorillas and tarts and things 😂
