It says on the tin I think the reason this has come out now because these comments were made in 2019 is because last year 203 2023 he was the biggest donor to the conservative party that makes him have a very big Target on his back which he didn’t have back in 2019

After the government warned they could be full by Easter the new measures to Target reductions will reportedly run for a limited time and will only apply to quote less serious offenders who are serving less than four years Justice secretary Alex chalk told the commons the radical changes to tackle
Overcrowding will also look to cut the 10,000 foreign National offenders or fos being held in UK prisons we’re expanding the number of EOS we can remove for example by bringing forward legislation to allow us to remove foreign offenders with limited leave to remain under conditional caution we are amending our deportation
Policy so we can remove those on suspended sentences of 6 months or more we are making more use of the Diplomatic levers we have to remove people back to their home countries uh for me if you in prison if you’re sentenced to four years in prison
To me that means that you are not a lowrisk offender that means that you are probably pretty bad you haven’t just robbed a couple quid from your local post office or pushed over a couple nuns you’ve done something heinous right stop laughing at pushing over nuns Collins
That’s not funny it’s not funny it’s just a very odd example very odd not funny at also not a lowlevel crime either which which one their Catholic Church of England true however um I on a more serious note the victims of domestic abuse how are they going to
Feel knowing that their ex-husband or abusive partner is gonna only come out a couple weeks early which was the initial plans now it could be actually they’re not perhaps won’t even go to jail because the prisons are full and and you’re going to have to have that fear
Of walking around and perhaps seeing your your attacker and there’s lots of I would say on the four-year thing I I don’t I’ve got no evidence for this but instinctively I would imagine a massive percentage of the prison population are doing four years or less so it’s quite a
Lot of people and I can’t help that when I think of all the things they send people you got the whole kind of um is it white color crime what’s yeah when you you know mess around with fraud tax that kind of stuff I mean I’m not sure
Whether prison is the best place people haven’t paid a TV license should never be in jail those kind of areas of life where there must be better ways of punishing people sticking them inside completely I mean we have the highest imprisonment rates of anywhere in Western Europe um and our prison
Population has increased over the last three decades 80% which is why and we haven’t built new prisons which is why our our prisons are completely bursting full which so now they’re having to find a solution to that problem by letting people out which is completely the wrong and on the
Threee there’s been a 36% increase in fouryear sentences and the other thing as as we all know um they’re not getting through the the justice system as in the courts aren’t doing their job so about um uh the 15,000 or I think it’s nearly 16,000 uh people in prisons haven’t even
Been to court yet they’re on remand they haven’t been found guilty of anything yet so they are clogging up the system as well because the courts are being so slow and are crumbling on the overcrowding thing it’s it’s a total failure of the prison system that needs
A complete overhaul because as you say you’ve got people there that shouldn’t be there you’ve got you got no new prisons being built all of that but what prisons should be doing is rehabilit ating people training them getting them ready getting you know getting them off
A life of crime and getting them ready to go back into society whether that’s four years or 14 years getting them ready to work and to be a decent member a decent you know citizen instead of which they get on drugs they learn crime from other people and they go out and
They reoffend so that’s why we’ve got an overcrowding problem it’s just a complete an utter failure and indictment of the whole prisons process and you’re right and you know think I think we’re building six new prisons which seem to be taking about just Hotel 400 years to
Build but all we’re building six new when are you going to finish the damn things and more and more and more our solution to our overcrowded prison problem is right well let’s send fewer people to prison uh therefore if you were going to get a sentence of nine
Month no sentences less than a year uh start letting people out you know after three years when they should be doing eight years you know prison is supposed to be punishment and it’s supposed to rehabilitate and we’re just carving it away because we’re just saying we
Haven’t the room we need to build a whole lot more prisons oh and don’t investigate burglaries and shoplifting in any of the minor crimes either I think investigate them and throw them all into jail yeah I agree I agree but also I think we should be moving uh
