[Music] We’re spending the weekend in an Old Post  Office in Montgomery in mid-Wales. This is Compton   House which is available for self-catering  holidays and it is in the centre of the town   on the corner of a gorgeous Georgian square  market but before we explore this idyllic town

Let’s check out the house first. The beautiful  Georgian property is known for being a motor and   cycle shop, it’s also in been a draper’s shop and  then a post office which closed in 2016. Now it’s

Time to go inside and give you a tour. So let’s  start here in the very big open plan space which   as you can see houses the kitchen, a living room  and here on the left a dining space. The front

Of the house is actually Georgian so it’s from  the 18th century but you can definitely tell as   we go along that the house, the structure of  the house is older. It’s believed to be from   the 17th century. And the wooden panelling here  are actually still the remains from the shop when

It when it was still a motor and cycle shop. I  really love that. And the accommodation itself is   very big. It’s for eight people so it’s a very  big house but we wanted to show you something

Really lovely in the middle of a wonderful town  so yeah, if you if you want to find a place for   I don’t know for where you can stay with your  friends or family this is so wonderful I think.

Now the kitchen is very lovely. I think it’s  a typical country kitchen I would say. Very   classic and timeless. So this is a mixture between  white and grey I think. And the island here is   absolutely amazing. It has a deep blue shade and  it’s super big. Just look at the worktop. It’s so

Lovingly restored. It’s absolutely amazing. What  I also find very striking in here because, well,   the property itself is listed of course and  they had to keep the the front of the shop,   the windows and this stained glass so this is made  by a a a local stained glass artist. I think her

Name is Helen Robinson. And it’s Arts and Crafts  inspired. I really love that. It’s so well done,   isn’t it? Of course I really love the  Welsh dresser here. And I had a look   for you because I love everything china  as you know. Now this is Spode. And this

Here is from a brand called Alfred Meakin.  It was also produced in Stoke-on-Trent. A   very lovely pattern. This pattern here is  my absolute favourite. It’s from Wedgwood. This is Alfred Meakin again. And here’s another  Wedgwood. It’s absolutely stunning. I also asked

About this fabric and it’s from Zoffany. Very  nice. So this is the view from the dining area.   And we actually bought these flowers. I don’t  know about you but sometimes this is what we   do. We just buy flowers and bring them to the  self-catering accommodation. It just makes

It a little bit more beautiful and cosy. And  also here I want to show you the blind. This   is obviously William Morris and it’s from the  brand Sanderson. It’s beautiful. Lovely mugs   here that we constantly use. As you can see a  very big wood burner but that’s not the only

Thing. There’s underfloor heating in here so  it’s very warm and toasty. This is the same   Morris fabric as the blind. And here are some  remains from the post office. It’s so great   that they kept it. This is the view from the  living area. It’s a very nice space, isn’t it? Okay, let me show you the bedroom we’re staying  in because it’s a very big room which used to be   the parlour of the Georgian household. Okay,  I need to be very careful because the floors   in this 17th century house are quite uneven  and wonky but I want to show you this carpet

Which is from a UK based brand called ‘Crucial  Trading and I find it quite fun. Let me show you   our bedroom first. It’s so big. And I think you  will probably notice the very vibrant blue on the

Walls straight away. And we will told that because  the walls are lime plastered they wanted to use a   breathable clay paint and this is from a brand  called ‘Earthborn’ and the name of the colour

Is ‘Bobble Hat’ which I find so I don’t know I  find it quite charming. And it’s a very very rich   lagoon blue. I do love the curtain fabric. That’s  from Linwood. Hope you can see it. It’s very nice. So you can see here build-in  cupboards and there used to

Be a fireplace. Lovely sash windows of  course. Let me show you the antique bed again. And here’s a seating area and also a  chest of drawers. I think from this angle you   get such a a great idea of this amazing blue.  I find it so unusual but I love the fact that

They used a breathable clay paint because it’s  so important for for an old property. Now next   door is a lovely twin bedroom. And what I  love about this room is the view. Now it   obviously has this gorgeous sash window  and this is the Georgian town hall. And

Just look at the lovely buildings. I love  this so much. So it has a little wardrobe and across the room is a bathroom. This  is the smaller bathroom. The big one is   upstairs with a very big tub so we’re using this

One. It’s very hard to film in here because it’s  quite small. So here’s a shower obviously. Okay,   two more rooms to show you upstairs and the  big bathroom of course. And before I forget   I want to show you the artwork in here because  it’s quite special and from a local artist as

Well. So these artworks are from Drusilla Cole  and she’s based in Shropshire. She actually took   up lino printing in her retirement and I just  love that. It just goes to show it’s never too   late. I really love the space up here. It’s so  characterful. And also quite special, I hope this

Is not too shaky because you can see here these  rooms these two rooms still have their original   doors and this even still has a number. Number  2. And because Montgomery used to be the county   town of Montgomeryshire it had so this property  had letting rooms because it had an important

Market. And I I love that they kept that. So  this is a wonderful twin bedroom. I really love that. It’s so charming. And again a very lovely view  here. You can see the clock tower. It’s   such a great tiny town. We really adore it. A nice

Little room. What do you think? I don’t  know what this is. It looks like an old door. A lovely little chest of  drawers. And next door is the other bedroom. I really love the rooms up here. I think it’s because you  have such a great view. I just

I could never tell of this view.  And also here the other building here. It’s lovely. Okay, this is the view from here. Okay, across the room is the very big  bathroom with a huge sink. Let me open the

Door. Look at the sink. I really love that. And  here is the rolltop bath. And I was told that the   sink and bathtub were eBay finds. How amazing is  that? I think the brand is called ‘C. P. Hart’.

I’m not familiar with it but maybe you are. I  love this room because it has so much light.   So so this is the view from here. I also love the  mustardy yellow of the tub. By the way, that’s a

Bit tricky to film. There’s also a shower. And  see here’s another window so plenty of light.   Very nice. I hope you enjoyed the tour. It’s a  very lovely house and the town is so gorgeous. Time to explore beautiful Montgomery a little bit  which is such a tiny town with gorgeous Georgian,   Victorian and timber framed buildings.  And also very lively. There’s a florist,   there are two cafés. It’s so  lovely. And the buildings are   honestly to die for. I can’t wait  or we can’t wait to show you more. Look! You can buy cakes and  scones here. Fruit scones. £3 for the scones. That’s a coffee cake. I really  love that. So this is where   you can buy the cakes and scones  and look at the beautiful house. I think this is our very first time that  we’re staying in the middle of a tiny town.   Yes but it has its advantages. It does.  For example so this is our accommodation   right behind us. Yeah. So this is Broad  Street and opposite our accommodation you

Find a Spar – yeah – or a Spar with an R of  course. Not a spa, a Spar. Spar. In Germany   we say Spar. And if you need a pine of milk  you just need to cross the street. [Music] This afternoon we’re going to  the the Castle Kitchen which

Is just about 100m from where we’re  staying if anything. [Music] Okay,   this looks amazing. What’s that? Is it – a walnut  cake. Walnut cake. Yeah. Looks really nice. So   Jörg ordered this for me. This is a banana  and ginger loaf. Glutenfree. Two cappuccinos. Okay, we want to go inside this traditional  Ironmongers shop which is called ‘Bunners’.   We heard amazing things about it. I think it  was established in 1892 so let’s have a look.   This shop is amazing. We no longer have that in  Germany but it’s so good. You find absolutely

Everything in here. It’s so deceiving.  We met a man on the street and he said   there are hundred hundreds hundreds of little  rooms. We need to come here and check it out. This is such a wonderful cutting board and  I think we’re going to get it. What do you   think? It’s crazy. I think visiting  or coming to Montgomery just to visit   this shop is so worth it. Honestly. Look  here. That’s a display all different. Oh

Wow. That’s so well done, isn’t it? Yes.  I think you could honestly film an entire   series about this shop. We would  watch it – yeah – I’m sure. [Music] Check this out. That’s adorable, isn’t it?  Now you can see that the front of the shop

Is so old because it’s still has petrol  pumps. We also bought some logs. Well,   there weren’t hundreds of rooms but several  rooms and it reminded me of my childhood.   Yes. Old times. I loved going to to a shop  like that in our village with my dad. Did

You have a shop like that in your village  as well? No but I remember as a child but   maybe one of the next villages – yeah – we had  that. Look, there’s a lovely little book shop. [Music] My goodness – yeah, that was a lovely  shop. This bookshop is absolutely wonderful. Yes.

It’s got such a good selection of books. Yes. It’s  tiny but has a wood burner – yeah – and we we just   loved it. So the bookshop is amazing, the iron  mongers is amazing, we love this town. Okay, this

Is what we bought today here in Montgomery. This  wonderful little chopping board. On the job. Very   countryside inspired. Then this cafetière. And we  fell in love with this book. Yeah. ‘Pie Room’ by   room by Callum Franklin. Yeah because I  love pies and sausage rolls and everything

So – yes – it’s got a lot of recipes. It looks  wonderful. Mmmmh. Oh yes. Yeah. Lots of recipes to try. Ohhhh. Ahhhh. This is something we need to   try. Yeah. We’ve never tried that – no  – because you can eat it cold. Yes. Fish

Pies. That’s amazing. Yeah. See. Tomato,  goats cheese and onion lattice. Lots of   things to try. Different kinds of pastry. And  and Jamie Oliver calls him ‘the pie king’. Yes   so I also love the cover I must say. That  looks beautiful. So these are Welsh cakes

Which is a traditional sweet bread and it’s  a little bit like a cross between shortbread   biscuits and pancakes, just a little bit more  dense and you can eat them either hot or cold. [Music] Behind us you can see the castle ruins  of Montgomery castle. Here. Yes and it’s very

Old. Yes. It was built 800 years ago but  sadly destroyed during the English Civil   War. In 1649. And it’s only a 10-minute walk from  the Old Post Office sadly. Sadly, Jörg, it’s very   overcast today so we think in clear weather  the views will be absolutely incredible. So this is the current view.  Maybe we’ll come back tomorrow.   We will see. The weather forecast  isn’t the best but you never know. It’s Sunday afternoon and before we leave  we thought we’re going to have a short walk   through Montgomery. Yes. As you can see it’s  raining so it’s not not the best weather. Yes   but still okay. Yes. And you said we’re going to  see a former prison or at least the gate. Yes,

The old goal. Yes. It sounds strange but  the gate looks actually incredible. Yes,   I believe that’s the only thing left.  [Music] Look at the small houses,   small cottages. So that’s the gate. Yes. And  behind it is the governor’s house. Mhm. It’s

An octagon. Yeah. And then to the left  – yeah – yeah were the prison cells,   the prison block. Yes. Sadly we can’t get go there  – yes – it’s private. And I think the prison was

Built in the 1830s, 1840s – mhm – and the gate  is 1866. Yeah. It’s a lovely gate. Yes. [Music] One last tea before we leave. And we really  like these mugs. I don’t really know the brand.   It says ‘Bird’. Bird. Something bird. And two  Welch cakes for Jörg. This was an interesting

Weekend – it was – because Montgomery wasn’t on  our radar at all. And it’s so funny because we   explore so many villages. This was absolutely  wonderful. Yeah. It’s such a Georgian gem. Not   really touristy probably that’s why we haven’t  really, I mean we heard about it but we haven’t

Visited before and we can highly recommend  it. And The Old Post Office is a really good   location. It it honestly is. So if you’re looking  for a wonderful place we will of course link that   for you in the info box. We really loved it.  So as always thank you so much for watching

And we’ll see you again very soon – yeah –  so until next time. Bye. Bye. Bye bye. Bye.

    4. I hope I haven't been rude, when I say – I just feel that you, guys, are almost like my family. 🙋🌞 It is again – strange feeling, but it is a history behind it. I am from Latvia, originally, but I have lived in London since 2006.
And as my surname is Linde ( by my father) and also I know that my roots are German ( but a very long time ago) – I just feel everything you are talking about soooo logical and soooo understanding to me. I do not know, if you know , but Riga was built by Germans ( 800 years ago) and many Germans lived in Riga for the centuries. And even Immanuel Kant's first book was printed in Riga ( 1781.).
So – what I am saying – that your character can be so deep hidden in you, that you don't even know .

    5. When your videos pop up it is like being part of a holiday. What an amazing idyllic town right out of a storybook. The Old Post Office was divine. So well preserved yet so welcoming and comfortable. This was simply charming and as always you were the most amazing hosts.

    6. Such a beautiful place! Thank you for sharing your adventures. I’m wondering where Joerg gets all of his stunning ascot scarves? I’m in the US and looking for something similar to what he is wearing. Thanks. 😊

    7. Ive recently found your channel and ive been watching multipe times a day for the entire week. 8. Another beautifully filmed video. Love the walkthrough of this charming house. And such a lovely town and quaint little shops.. we are hoping to travel from the Cotswolds to Wales on our trip the U.K. but not sure about the Snowdonia trip due to possible weather issues! We will re-watch all your Wales trip videos! God bless

    9. I am always amazed at the lovely places you find to stay and the gorgeous dishes and furniture and fabrics for curtains. I love that you try to find out the name of fabrics and paints on wall in the homes as well as artwork displayed. That piece of cake and banana bread looked delicious. Enjoy your weekend.

    11. I love you videos so much…. they're so relaxing! We visited England and Scotland last May but didn't get to Wales. Thinking we may need to on our next trip.
I have a random question… I just love your floral umbrella! Where did you get it?
Have a wonderful day from here in the state of Georgia in the U.S.!

    12. I dislike the video as it goes very fast moment in outer field in the begining- little confusing – pl better to go slow video shooting in your next episode onwards

    13. So lovely villages everywhere. And so clean.
Question: if it is raining so often, is this a problem for mold in the houses? Do you have to heat all day long? And at night? Unordinary question I think, but I am interested in such circumstances. 😊
      Have a nice weekend. 👋👋👋

    14. 😅 Thank you Ms Kristen and Mr. Joerg. What a quaint little village. Really enjoyed you both sharing your time there. This is LL. I have not been able to see your vlogs for some weeks. My device died, issues with my apps and I have been very sick and in the hospital. So I need to catch up. Both of you take care.
