Did you know that this is not legal to have an electric bike in the UK all right so you can go up to 4 miles per hour but that’s basically a walk assist and you know that’s not what I’m talking about I’m talking about this but did you

Know that there’s a loophole that there’s a legal way to be able to get these in the UK keep watching to find out by the way guys if you’re new to the channel consider hitting that subscribe button for up toate electric bike news and content let’s goish any updates well it’s 5 minutes

Past 12 and uh Mark did say that he was going to be in for 12 so just come on Mark I need to see these bikes a few moments later it’s here Mark said excuse the mode of Transport long story let’s go have a look I’m interested safe drive yeah

Yeah I was supposed to have hired a van didn’t so I had to beg a Bor still to get one to get here look you’re here that’s the main thing that’s the main thing do you have a look at the bikes let’s have a look here it is is the

Navigator and the Cruisers right behind it we’ve been waiting so long for these bikes and there is a special very special feature on them which we’re going to talk about a little bit later Navigator so this is the folding electric bike from pedal and I’m really

Excited to try this because it has a very nice price tag of currently £999 so I’m going to be doing a full video on this soon so keep your eyes peeled what a beauty I mean come on guys is just not a beautiful bike it’s gorgeous and just

Like the seat itself that’s that’s Bo isn’t it yeah yeah definitely yeah I can’t wait to show you my first my first ride I think it’s going to be a good one to dvsa certifications for both the Navigator and the cruiser so like I said

I’m going to go into a little bit more detail later but this means no actually no no no no I no I’m not going to tell you keep watching guys well let’s turn this on as you can see it’s very busy around here stuff is popping off

Deliveries are happening so as you can see you’ve got your battery you’ve got your odometer you’ve got your miles per hour you’ve got your mode which can go up to level five power mode and You’ got the wattage that is being output as well so there’s a really cool feature on both

The cruiser and the navigator that is the whole Crux of this video that Is so we have right here a throttle ebike now I know a lot of you are like Alish chill the hell out it’s a throttle ebike that’s pretty standard well not in the UK anyway in terms of it being legal it is fully legal here in the UK that certificate that Mark handed

Over to me earlier was because this bike has been taken to the dvsa this very bike itself not as like a a bike as a batch and then they all get ticked off no no no Mark has to take every single bike that he builds to the dvsa to get

Them singularly certified so I am riding a legal throttle electric bike it’s bad time now I’m going to tell you a little bit more about how he has been able to make it legal a little bit later in the video but I think we just need to

Have a have a play have a go so first of all Let’s do an acceleration test now I’ve picked this nice straight behind my studio it actually doesn’t matter what level assist you’re in with the throttle you just need to twist and go maybe Meg

Can you put a timer up on the uh the screen and let’s just see how quickly accelerates to 15.5 milph all right 3 2 One 15.4 yeah okay it didn’t quite go up to 15.5 but that was the acceleration hold on I want to do that one more time right 3 2 1 let’s go let’s go let’s go H 12 13 14.5 15.2 all right I mean look it’s no Ferrari is

It but bloody L it’s good fun so that took exactly how many seconds M let’s show in the edit very fast so I want to try the bike now with pedaling alone just to kind of see how it feels with the assist this is a Cadence Sensor so

The moment I start pedaling it’s going to start assisting me but I’m just really intrigued to see how that feels so let’s just go straight with level five I’m on a bit of a high gear there woo straight in let’s switch those gears up very quick and it’s very light under

My feet it’s very sensitive as well the moment I start pedling it really kicks off and it continues to assist as you can hear for just that bit longer so it’s really effortless to ride I’m actually going to take this out on the road now the thing with cadence sensors

Is depending on what level of assist you put it in it will say okay this is the speed that we’re going to go at so level one assist is going to mean that you’re going to be at quite a slow pace and then level five assist means that it’s

Going to take you all the way up to 15.5 mph level three here is taking me up to about 10 mph so that is just something bear in mind with levels of assist so as I’m pedling this Sparks my next topic of conversation and that is the fact that

Cruisers can be not the best to Pedal with because firstly obviously the seat is in a fixed position so your knees are being bent at a certain angle that obviously is not akin to how it should be if you’re riding like a road bike but obviously that doesn’t matter because

I’m literally not putting any weight through my legs whatsoever so for people who want to comment and say oh that can’t be good for your joints well I’m not putting any working whatsoever it’s like me sat down just pedaling away there’s no effort no effort at all so

That’s one thing to note but the other thing to note is that the frame itself between the legs it is just much wider and so it means that you kind of like have a bit of chafing and rubbing between your legs when you pedal but the

Thing is the fact that this bike has a throttle that then completely negates that whole chafing rubbing that you get with the cruiser frame so all of a sudden I’m able to ride a Cru Cruiser without getting that niggly feeling and that discomfort that you can get if you

Need to go for longer rides so if you have a problem with that then obviously this throttle is an amazing fix and just look at it go up oh my God this is so good I can’t believe I’m actually doing this and I know that this is legal and I

Can’t get done for it I’ve really hopes the police stop me I just want to see what happens cuz I’m going to be that smug person he’s like well I’m sorry I’m afraid I actually have a certificate for this and I can show you the proof and

You can check on the pedal website and this is so sick look I’ve got the throttle right Twisted back we’re on 15.5 the wattage is going lower as now we’re at a high speed and look I’m going over bumps I’m going over grates and things in the road and yeah it’s you can

Feel it but it’s not uncomfortable you’ve got the suspension you’ve got this seat which is like it’s a nice firm mattress style feeling it’s not soft in any shape or form but it’s nice and firm but it really pads you out when you’re going over oh here we go we’re green

Lady with her ebike with the cargo on the front would love to see it I can’t believe I’m doing this this is so joked oh yes guys I’m crying there’s a tear coming out of my left eye Meg zoom in can you see it it’s a mixture of

Happiness and definitely cold air all right guys so I just want to tell you a little bit more about pabal themselves and kind of where they came from and where it all started and why they are where they are today so it started off originally with a guy called Joe Malik

He actually started pedal because I believe his grandson had mobility issues or balancing issues so he designed find a balance bike for him so that he could push himself around and then that then kind of created the brand pedy Bal so that comes from Petty Bal balance so you

Can see how the name is what it is now guys you’re very welcome so after a bit of time he then decided to create pedals that can be attached onto that balance bike and then that really is where sort of the the brand pedal came to be they

Started selling those and then they naturally progressed to Electric bikes and so the reason that they’ve come through with this throttle loophole in a sense is because Joe moli wanted to find a way to facilitate people to get around that have mobility issues and obviously his grandson who has balance issues so I

Really love the story here pabal comes from a place of wanting to help people wanting to find solutions for those who have difficulties in areas that most of us don’t really have so I think it’s a really lovely story and they’ve carried on the want to help people and clearly

The response that pabal get from its customers has been amazingly positive and it’s helped people to get around who haven’t been able to do so on their own or with a standard pedal bike so I love where this bike has come from and I just love the bike itself it’sing good sorry

I swore but that’s how I feel and that’s okay actually just stopped here in the sun just to warm the cockal cuz it’s cold but that sun is a nice little fire to toast me up so I want to actually take this a step further there’s a police station literally around the

Corner why don’t I just go and uh ride around with a throttle and see what happens I’m going to ride over Now I think this is a good opportunity to get a thumbnail so I’m going to hit up Meg and see if she can come meet me and get some pics yo may he you good I’m good are you yeah good good I’m I’m not going to lie

I’m getting a little bit cold old but I’m having The Best Time Ever well look um I just wanted to ring because I actually just want to take it one step further and go around the corner to the local police station and just bomb it around with the throttle and see if they

Do anything and I think you should come and maybe we can get some like thumbnails and stuff as well what do you think sounds good I’ll meet you out there all right see you SEC bye bye hello hello how’s it been yeah M good I’m just warming up in the sun right now

So I’m thinking let’s just go straight down I’m just going to like ride around I’m just going to if anything happens and then I think let’s have to get some pics and some thumbnails and see what’s up all right should we go let’s go got to keep up with

Me oh police car’s right there oh what’s going on some guy’s been putting the police car I guess the cycle Lane’s blocked all right is this is this my future getting pulled over and put in the back of back I hope not do the throttle as quick as I can

Right ready without any legs look look no legs asking for it right come on police where are you oh there’s more police they’re everywhere hello look I’m doing something legal I think I’m such a little big dog like trying to get the police to pull me over who do I think I

Am such little goody two shoes no one’s talking to me m okay fails failure going to hang outside let’s get some picss maybe they’ll come and talk to us oh yes right we should try and get a thumbnail cool I think we should get you Here right thumbnail done it’s time we head back to base just going to show you around the bike a little bit so you can get to know the cruise a little bit better let me park up by the electrical vehicle parking cool so this is the E

Cruiser and as you can see it’s got some really lovely great big fat chunky tires and look can you see it’s got the real lovely studded grippy Parts there so it’s going to be able to grip to the road grip to any terrain that you want

To take it on that’s really great for kind of snower weather as well isn’t it got your mugar that come of standed you got your 250 W motor as well buang got your Tetro brakes here like I said you’ve got a bespoke seat which is can

You see it’s it’s fun it’s comfortable I really like that I think it’s really good looks really neat lovely comfortable handlebars your twist got your gears up here as well so you can switch up which I think is very important for a bike as heavy as this oh

I just realized you got Bell a that’s nice and the battery itself as you can see is here oh I was going to take the keys off but they’re locked on okay I’m going to do this later I’ve got the key so now let’s take

The battery off and show you how easy it is but first of all let me quickly show you I no it’s this earlier there’s a USB port in here so you can charge up your phone or whatever you want to charge that’s great easy enough to unlock just

Grab the key give it a Twist and then there you have it you’ve got your battery pack which is really easy to charge up because you can take it off the frame which itself is pretty large in cumbersome so you want to make sure that you can take this off so you can

Charge it wherever you are on the go range for this is up to 40 m with pedal assist now that will drop with throttle alone you’re welcome so some of you will be wondering how you get a bike like this road legal well according to the government website looking at the

Electric bike rules you’ll see down at the bottom that an electric bike must be type approved if it has a Twist and go throttle this means Mark has to go through a bunch of paperwork and on-site testing with the driver and vehicle standard agency to get the bike up to

Scratch with what they stipulate is needed for it to pass their specifications one of the criterial was the the front mud guard from a safety point of view it has to have a a a front rim to to if it was in an accident it’s it’s less likely to cause any damage

Interesting so we had to add this as an additional to meet that specification so so there’s that minute detail yeah they can be yeah like the particulars of the mudguard there’s a lot of small tweaks that need to be made so that it still falls under the category of l1e or eapc

Now obviously I can’t go into too much detail because that will be giving away Mark train Secrets now once it’s passed not only does the bike get aert but it also gets a VIN number that you can show if anyone wants to question the bike’s validity the VIN number can be searched

And identified domestic type approvals for eapcs fall under the subcategory of a low power moped however for the pabal it still classes an eapc because of the 250 W Motor so any higher and it goes into the moped classification which will mean you need license registration

Insurance etc etc etc I actually go into this in a different video about 500 watt Motors and potentially the law changing here in the UK if you want to watch that then click the link right here now remember Mark has to do this with every single bike he can’t just get them batch

Approved so pedal goes to a lot of lengths to make these bikes available to people who need them because because the there’s a lead time with a dvsa yeah so you could be anything between 2 weeks and 5 weeks so what we tried to do where possible is test them in advance and

Then that way we can dispatch them quicker also word on the Great Vine is that pedal are working up bespoke paneers to fit onto the cruiser so keep an eye out for those in the coming months cuz that is going to elevate the utility of this bike if you are

Interested in the pedal Cruiser then I will make sure to drop a link down in the description below make sure to drop your comments down as well because I would love to hear what you guys think of this and I’ll see you for the next

One I’m going to go see some police now bye Oh

    1. Look, I really love the bike (and the presenter). Myself, I have PSV/HGV & Motorbike licences. But, I'm 76 (eeek). Licences expired / renew blah blah… I ride a Switch, which I really treasure. EPACs are the BEST invention since the Safety Cycle. People, I have nothing but contempt and disgust for politicians and the government. AND KARENS. I am resigned to the fact that ebikes will all be made “illegal” and attract MOT, Tax, insurance, Licenses.. I’m scared that idiotic cretins will get hold of loophole ebikes, kill a few people and irritate more people, and motivate governments to wreck ebikes for everone. And really piss me off. Robin.

    2. With no seat height adjustment, it needs to be throttle controlled.
It would like pedalling a bmx bike only 5 times heavier if the battery ran out.
But its a pretty cool looking piece of transport.

    3. In my experience of having a throttle on my ebike because of bad knees I was told by a cop i know , he said aslong as you not riding like a twat at stupid speeds they won't even look at you as they have better things to do, So moral of the story don't ride like a dick and you'll be OK atleast where I live maybe different in big cities

    4. So under throttle control only, you would accelerate at a lower rate than the cadence sensor and peddling would. Yet you need to make the mudguard less sharp because supposedly it’s MORE dangerous to accelerate at a lower rate?!

    5. Trade secrets my arse. If they really wanted to help people get mobile, they'd share how to get our own bikes approved rather than being forced to buy theirs. I have an Engwe with a disabled throttle. I'd like to be allowed to enable it without risk of consequences.

    6. So many people cycling around illegally, do the police ever check?
I was in Leicester during the week and the city centre is plagued with fast food delivery guys speeding around on electric bikes, very few are using pedals and no way they are restricted to 15.5 mph.

    7. fair play to the company going through the whole registration process. Hope it doesn't bankrupt the business and the e bikes don't increase in price

    8. something that I would still be concerned about is even if it is type approved, the display on these bikes show the wattage, and from the video it definitely peaks higher than 250w, in the unlikely event that they wanted to test the bike out they would easily see that it has a higher maximum output, maybe it would of been better if these didn't show the wattage

    9. You should di a video series in getting an ebike tyoe approved as a moped. There are a few videos online from the likes of andy kirby who did it a few years ago. Insurance is possible and a cbt is pretty easy to get so the video series could be quite in depth.

    10. I prefer e-bikes that are more alike traditional bikes in terms of design and geometry. Those more motorcycle alike e-bike invites you to throttle. Would be nice to see some e-bike with thumb throttle as the ones we get with quadricycles, in a ebike with a invinting geometry to pedal.

    11. Hard to believe that there are police somewhere that have better things to do than scoping out folks on non-regulation eBikes. Btw, love how your top matches your laptop 😉

    12. My MiRider with 250w motor and throttle requires no effort but pedals do need to turn for throttle to work up to 15.5mph. Great mode of transport 👍

    13. Thats great but what about the ridiculous Tax on imported ebikes 6% Third country Duty plus 17.2% Countervailing duty plus 62.1% Anti dumping duty plus tax on tax of 20% vat. A grand total of 122.4% tax on top of the cost of the bike and the cost of shipping. All to protect a non existent Uk Ebike manufacturing sector.

    14. It's actually really encouraging that the police seem to have better things to do than chase commuters to check theottles and motor powers. Hopefully the government catch up. I'm all for punishing those who take the mick but for the rest we should be able to use common sense

    15. One of my biggest transpo fears is for things here in Canada to take the lead from the UK on PEV restrictions. We're a young country with cities build on roads, not vice/versa, so I'm hoping we don't end up under such insane regulation. Before I sound like a free-dumb maga-cultist, I'm prone to giving people online pep talks on how poorly their scooter/ebike skills are regarding pedestrians & cyclists. My scooter, a 2023 Apollo Phantom, is not even remotely one of the faster scooters on the roads here in North America – but 2400w total, it's barely enough to get me around my city. I've had it going 71km/h, but rarely go that fast due to its small 10" tires & some pretty rough roads. That said, though I can use it on a sidewalk, if there are pedestrians there, I get off the thing & walk. If I'm about to pass by a bicyclist, I try to minimize the difference in speed.
The two big factors pushing us toward suffocating legislation here are irresponsible riding (don't fly past pedestrians with kids/prams/dogs going 65km/h), the list of dangerous behavior is bottomless. The other factor is, battery fires. Battery fires are VERY hard to extinguish, and batteries can actually explode. It can be caused by water, too, you don't have to put them in a small closet full of turpentine. There's a UL Certification for batteries but not all scooters have this certification. That's one thing that should be enforced, since it could kill the entire industry. People with e-bikes find a replacement battery that was made by some teenager in Hong Kong for $12, and suddenly you've got yourself an apartment building with an apartment-sized hole in it. If we let insurance companies determine what should be legal or not, of course, everything with a battery is on the chopping block. Mine's UL certified but i also have a CO2 fire extinguisher & a fire blanket. And of course, insurance.
We can't begrudge the industry for not taking a cost-effective hammer-down approach, but the UK has taken legislation against PEV's to the extreme. Canada is not the UK, I understand there is not comparison among the realities of PEV use, but if you have an empty bike lane in the UK with traffic going ~80km/h, what's wrong with a scooter or e-bike going 60km/h? I'm in my 50s & for the first time since I was a teenager, I'm enjoying my commute. I actually like going on errands now. I don't own a bicycle nor do I want one. Scooters are banned on some gov't trails (though an e-bike going 80km/h is totally fine because it has pedals), but I try to ride by example. I stop at 4 way stops unlike most scooterists, I use my scooter's signal lights & will join traffic in turn lanes but my scooter's faster than most cars in traffic, so I'm not slowing anyone down. Turn is over, I'm back on the side in the bicycle lane. Only enough space for one bike? I wait. Pedestrians in a crosswalk? I wait. If I have to jump up onto a sidewalk & pedestrians are approaching, I get off the thing & walk it past them. If I encounter people walking on a trail, I slow down to a crawl, say excuse me, then slowly ease past them. I don't deserve a cookie for this, but the percentage of people who follow these rules has to be < 5%.

    16. What a waste of time to make a ebike throttle only! If you want to move around without moving your legs just do your CBT any buy a moped or motorbike.

    17. i'm sure pre 2012 built bikes could do this legally (iirc to 12mph) without the dvla expense, and if you can find one its 'grandfathered in'

'marks trade secrets' are a free download from dvla. I know, I've done it last year

    18. After the bike is type approved, doesn't that mean it has to be taxed, mot'd and insured with a registration plate? I thought that was why nobody bothered.
If all we ever needed was type approval and no insurance, tax etc. Then it madness that all the manufacturers don't do this.

    19. With the cheapest display and gears on the market. I wonder what other cheap crap that you can't see they built the bike with. Total rubbish!
