Do you recognized that young woman with the blonde hair?
That’s my good friend Sophie (you may have seen her in several of my previous “Bicycle Touring Pro” videos)… and in the summer of 2017, Sophie traveled to Norway 🇳🇴 and joined me on the incredibly scenic “Arctic Coast Cycling Tour.”

This was Sophie’s first ever bicycle tour 🚴… and even though she had never ridden her bicycle more than 30 miles / 50 kilometers before this experience, she managed to complete the bike tour with a smile on her face.
After you’ve finished watching my new video interview with Sophie… in which we discuss her experiences cycling in Arctic Norway… be sure to download Sophie’s musical album, QUIET MAGIC.

Hello everyone Darren Alf here from bicycle turn pure calm I’m in Posen in Poland right now with my friend Sophie who is here visiting from the UK some of you might recognize Sophie from one of my previous videos that I made in Norway back in 2017 I think Sophie and I spent
A week together cycling across Arctic Norway with a local tour company called discover Norway and that video from our trip together is probably one of the best and favorite videos on my entire bicycle turn pro YouTube channel so you’re like a celebrity in the bicycle
Turning world it was a good trip are you enjoying it very much yeah [Applause] we can’t It Yeah Well I have Sophie here with me I thought now would be a good time for us to maybe just talk about that trip and look back on it a little bit and talk about some of the highlights maybe so that trip that we did in Norway was your
First bike tour ever right my multi-day bicycle turn adventure how did you feel going into that like were you nervous that it was going to be too hard or I think I was entirely unprepared I went on a few walks beforehand and I didn’t really think
About it much I just thought I can get to give him ride a bicycle in the mountains annoy and I so I didn’t really prepare for it and then when I got there I thought and started hearing about how long it was going to be and what it was
Going to be like each day I thought well I wonder what this is going to be like but no as I got the first steps bike tour I was sort of tired I found it I got the bike and it was great but as I
Was going along I was like wow this is something to get used to you I had not quite thought you know I’ve been on a little bike ride up a park or a few you know ten miles or so but it was different during a holiday or cycling Sophie and I just finished the first day of our bike tour with active Norway the Arctic coast cycling tour how was it Sophie it was great we started in Tromso and we made our way east west i guess we went over this mountain plateau thing big
Hill going up which i enjoyed very much and then set off the drone and had some beautiful wide and then eventually we came back down and started sneaking along the coast came here yeah and we saw a reindeer one reindeer we found a white Sun beach yeah white sand beach
And what else lots of boats lots of wooden houses lots of scenic mountains and yeah yeah and this is the furthest Sofie has ever ridden out of on a bicycle 65 kilometers I think but it surprised me like how quickly I felt comfortable well then I think is one of
The things too that a lot of people who are new to bicycle train like struggle with that first couple days and also the other thing too is like we were carrying our gear on our bicycles which is something you don’t necessarily do on like diving trips so we were carrying
These bags and I don’t think you had ever ridden with these bags on the back of you buddy yeah so at the beginning you were like a little wobbly kind of but then towards the end you were totally comfortable I think yeah looking back now it’s been two years or so more
What was the highlight that trip for you I think the highlight of that trip was just getting to explore Norway without being in a car or in a van or anything like that I’m just the scenery in the landscape was just out of this world beautiful and there are these
Beaches that had something like coral science about white beaches that was just beautiful and yeah the scenery the legs fjords the mountains the weather was perfect for me because it’s cold it wasn’t cold but it was like cooler it could have been a lot worse which it was
Cool and then senior Norway say that one more time this is very very nice yummy fish so V without hungry hungry [Applause] going back to you being a beginner bicycle tourists like I feel like a lot of people want to go bicycle turning maybe what they want that experience but
They don’t necessarily want to like camp in a tent and go for a week without a shower yeah and I think you’re one of those people yeah you know I think I’d like to try that but no it’s definitely very nice to know at the end of the day
If you decide called on a 15 50 kilometers or whatever that you were going to find yourself in a hotel and there would be a hot ball of soup and a very comfortable bed waiting for you I don’t know obviously that’s really nice it kind of keeps you going and not
Having to pack a tent at the end of the day especially if it’s raining right this is a step up here for a few weeks I know amazing view out front this is a little bedroom yeah that’s gotta feel bad all right how do you feel it the end
Of the day here happy to be here yeah I’m always telling people especially people that are new to bike trying that better guided or self-guided bike to her like the one that we did in Norway it was a great way to get started with bicycle train like like you maybe want
To do a camping trip at some point in the future but it’s pretty hard to go from having never done a bike tour before to going on a week-long trip camping in the dirt you know it’s a much more gradual thing to go from a self-guided trip we’re ok you have some
Difficulties with the biking and you’re learning this but then you go into you know a hotel and you’re ok this is this is all right I think if I have been doing that trip and riding for the farthest I’ve ever been and then at the
End of the day camping I think after a couple of days I would have been quite exhausted ya know one of the things that’s most recognizable about the video that we created from our trip together is the music that I used in these videos and the music was made by will [Applause] Talk about talk about the music yes so I use it guys the project is called ocean hauling I’ve been writing music for a long time and then I started this solo project in 2016 music from that video those videos was from quiet magic my first album and now I’m working on my
Second album which is called starlight saltwater yeah how would you describe your music to someone because so many people commented on how unique you know what do you infer and perfect the music is portable I don’t know what yeah when I was writing that I was traveling a lot
Across Europe and the states so I kind of got a lot more quite inspired by being on the road and six or turned into a sort of road trip album like an electronic slightly haunting may be very trip adventure happen yeah yeah I think that’s how I would describe it magical
Electronic travel music yeah something like that and so you’re working on a second album now I have which is what’s that going to be calling it’s called starlight and saltwater I’m guessing I’m approaching being done it’s it’s I’m very very proud of it and there’s a lot more natural
Instruments and I play the harp because I started playing the hawk so the hearts in there a lot and it’s lots of songs about the desert and then moving back to the UK and all of the emotions that came with that into this new this new thing this yeah
There’s a lot of the sea in it too the ocean yeah where can people learn more about your music oh you can’t about my music on well I’d say you can find me on Facebook the ocean calling Sophie or on Instagram which is also great including safety and then I have a
Blog which is girl and the road comm for writing and all sorts of rambling things by me okay anything else we should mention in Poland yeah we spent the last week together here in Poznan Poland which is like my second home in Europe and so he came from the UK just to visit
I quote Abbas yeah she’s into the Buckskin 23 hour bus ride and I’ve been showing her around the city we went to the Botanical Gardens the zoo the museum museum yeah bike rides we did two bike rides out to nearby lakes met some of my friends we ate a lot of food it’s
Beautiful and hopefully we will do another bike tour together yes at some point in the future somewhere north yeah Canada maybe Canada yeah why not see some more mountains you can push me up the mountain all right so that’s Sophie and if you want to learn more about our video together check the
Link down below or go to bicycle trimco DICOM and just search for Arctic Norway I think that’s probably the easiest way to find it and if you want to learn more about Sophie’s music download her albums there’s two of them one is finished and the second one is coming soon in the
Summer summer mm-hmm what’s the website again I would go to Instagram ocean calling Sophie Facebook Oh stream calling Sophie or Garland the road calm alright that’s it Darren and Sophie sorry not okay
