Bikepacking along the Loire Day 2: Ancenis to Saumur

Hi and welcome to WannaGoBiking. My name is Arjan and it is time for a new Bikepacking Adventure! After prematurely ending my Wales trip because of injuries and a week’s worth of bad weather coming my way, I decided to go to Nantes. Well worth the visit and a good starting point for my 3 day trip along the Loire towards Tours.
On my second day I left the beautiful campground and headed out towards Saumur via Angers.
A very hot day…

Hi and welcome to WannaGoBiking and welcome  from the campsite Les babins , pretty much in between Nantes and Angers, plenty of room plenty of shade this a  bit of an eco-friendly campsite I had a good dinner last night here as well, a beer and  fantastic fresh bread in the morning for breakfast

So yeah very happy. so today’s  ride is going to be a long one towards Saumur it’s going to be very hot 32° I believe so  yeah it’s relatively early for me around 10:00 so I better get a move on and avoid the worst of the heat so yeah see you along the way

How about this for a seat? wow beautifully done Promenade Julien Gracq, well I have to say I’ve never heard of Julien but he’s lived a long life Wow, 97 mustn’t procrastinate any longer so  just let’s get a move on see you Arnaud Kasper, Homme Poisson, man fish that’s a another cool one

Nice ah wanted to take a break but the sun is pounding down on me so much that it’s going to be a very short one I’m riding towards Montjean sur Loire and I think when I arrive, should be around noon it’s a bit too early actually for lunch

Cuz I’ve just had breakfast at 0930 well we’ll see if we can find something cuz we know what  happens if we don’t take lunch, right? tiens, Saint-Germain-des-Près there must be dozen of songs  that refer to Saint-Germain-des-Près so see if I can find one to go underneath this video

Hey guys hello welcome in the video I should be closing in on Angers yeah in Angers, I should be able to find a terrace for coffee and an Orangina so that will be great no idea if it’s a beautiful city or not, never been

So so we’ll find  out together all right, on y va right well I’m afraid that’s all I  have time for in Angers I’m only halfway today still 50 to go so the heat is really  getting to me as usual the first day of really extreme heat is not good for me

I think tomorrow will be better same temperature probably but oh I thought I had good legs but it’s too hot well it’s a very difficult navigating if  you only have breadcrumbs to follow and I couldn’t really load the map that  I wanted to to load yesterday because my laptop was out of juice

So yeah that was a bit of a puzzle today but I think I found my way back towards The Loire, I hope I can reconnect to that route and then it’s another 45 or so to Saumur, the end point of today On y va! all right here we are The Loire again, blyme it’s hot

Well the Loire is certainly very wide here oh there’s someone in a canoe or kayak never understand that difference to be honest the only thing I know about canoing  and kayaking is that in France the word for it is actually the reverse is what it is Dutch and probably in English as well

But well he’s got the river all to himself or she nice, yeah another 25 or so to go man I’m so nackered but this side is much better because the other side did not have any shelter from the sun and this one certainly does so all right I’ll soldier on now

Well this would have been a nice spot  for wild camping but yeah already booked something cuz I’ve got to recharge all my  gadgets don’t I? all right little pause see you later so yeah that was a full days worth  of riding I was so nackered for the last hour

Usually I’m fine for 3 to 4 hours this was 5 hours and then the comfort level drops considerably after 3 or 4 hours for me the only question remaining is if I can carry my bike up three stairs so yeah I don’t think  this has an elevator so that’s going to be interesting as well
