A judge has criticised drill music as a “pernicious genre” after it played a role in stoking violence between two gangs which led to a 14-year-old being fatally stabbed in the street.
Gordon Gault was stabbed on the arm with a machete as he rode on the back of a friend’s e-bike in Newcastle’s West End in November 2022 and died six days later in hospital.
The deadly attack, which also saw one of his associates slashed in the back, happened when two rival gangs from Benwell and Elswick went out looking for each other.
Six teenagers went on trial at Newcastle Crown Court and were cleared of murder, but Carlos Neto, 18, of Salford, Greater Manchester, and Lawson Natty, 18, of Newbiggin Hall, Newcastle, were convicted of manslaughter.
Neto stabbed Gordon in a surprise attack, jurors heard, while Natty was the one who supplied him with the machete he had bought online.
The pair were also convicted of unlawfully wounding the other victim, who was slashed in the back by Neto.

All these young lads need is someone to tap em on the shoulder and tell them they could earn 4k a month by brick laying without being involved in criminal activity getting their lives threatened. Government needs to focus on poor deprived poverty areas allowing kids like this to have opportunities in work skills, funded courses and much more help in general in the employment sector. Unfortunately our government are far more interested in profiting off proxy wars and always having the american interest first over our own nation. How do you find it as manslaughter? "2 gangs went out looking for each other" implies intent and clear view of committing the crimes, armed with a machete not a blade, a machete. 3inch blades are 5 years, but evidently a 14 inch curved devil, thats used to stab one lad and slash another, all the while the ones who committed the murder are men under law and the kid killed is a fucking child. Hes 3 years older than my son. How in the fuck do you not slam a murder charge on that for the win.
Thats a fuckin joke. Kid might have been part of a gang and its fly with the crows shot with them, i get ir, gor the knife wounds to prove it, but regardless how you cut the cake, 2 men murdered a child. Period.
