France by Bicycle | PART 5: THE LOIRE A VELO: AMBOISE TO VILLANDRY

After a lovely rest day in Amboise, we head west along the Eurovelo 6 and the Loire A Velo, going through the city of Tours and through the amazing wine growing regions of the Garden of France. The Loire cycling route is a bicycle tourist’s dream, with beautiful villages, vineyards, castles, and (mostly) flat riding through some of Europe’s most luxurious landscapes. We eventually reach Villandry, home of the Chateau De Villandry, where we find a lovely BnB right next to the Chateau. What a dream bike tour!

Good good morning baby good morning Foreign the morning dawned Breezy with the promise of storms on the Wind We decided that this would be a great place to spend an extra day and we set out to do a little shopping in the historic Center and to do some of the things that tourists do no we didn’t ride the train we did see Helga again who was following

The same route as us and we run into our friends I went yesterday how was it oh it was great what do you think he’s been going now it’s fabulous it’s fabulous it’s fabulous how to stay in touch I always stay in touch yeah we read every time

Wanted the tour Shen and so the other top drawer Noir Chateau no they’re working on the tracks oh it’s too bad at Victor and Nadia found a bus to take them to the Chateau and we cut the train into tour we made it just in time with a

Little cafe just in time a little puppy we’ve got some lunch order and so once the rain cleared we bought me a rain jacket and then looked for a bicycle shop Juliana was more and more convinced that her salsa journeyman was no longer cutting it as a Touring bike

And enough mechanics had told her that it simply wasn’t built to handle the weight of day-to-day touring she found the bike of her dreams but of course no inventory same old story and we headed back to amwa thank you you got a new jacket yeah yeah

I like it I’m going to be able to find you on the trail no matter how far ahead oh yeah my new jacket love it being shot by accident on the trail so we are finally leaving where are we again and let’s see it’s supposed to be a windy

Day but we are hitting the highlights of the trail so let’s go Finally leaving Amboy through the market on a blustery morning these guys look beautiful and conditions seem awesome good good morning baby good morning I’m full of good coffee and French pastries all carved up for the day and had pasta last night where we’d better

Ride hard to burn this off I want to put on that vacation tent oh my god I’ve got enough carbs to last me for about 50 miles but we got strong winds so maybe 30. that wind is sometimes a challenge Happy Trails y’all the next day found us ready for the open

Road bonjour ever since navair we had been following the eurovelo 6. the river’s route so named because it crosses Europe following the Loire from the Atlantic and then the Danube east of the Black Sea Foreign We left them while heading west past Mushroom Hunters in tiny Villages and Vineyards lots and lots of Vineyards as much as we appreciated the local varietals at the end of the day we loved riding through these fields with their clean lines converging in the distance heavy with their bounty Look at these beautiful grapes they’re ripe sweet and ready for Harvest gorgeous grapes adios amigo Good morning Victor Foreign Very Underfed a little in here Oh it looks cool doesn’t it yes it’s beautiful anything for her cheese there is a piece of cheese in there is there yeah I think so there you go oh yes oh it looks cool just yeah baby yeah starving calories there more please Go ahead honey Riding into tour tours who knows the French know but they ain’t telling I think it’s tour now we’re in the city we were here yesterday on the train shot them for a bite just out of curiosity for Juliana we liked it we got tour is a nice city it’s big bustling happening Although Juliana and I had already explored a small piece of the city yesterday it was fun to enjoy from the seat of a bike here comes a little rain the first order of business was of course lunch and then we wound our way through town stopping for bike supplies along the way

Oh uh clean oil yeah for the change dry lube Nadia thank you for the loop sounds funny but yeah you have to have gloves if you fall it’ll take all the skin off your palms oh my God look at this tandem look here I know I saw that oh is that huge

They’re great Commute led us to a very confusing route through the city but we eventually rejoined the river Foreign More than 10 miles an hour Really windy right now on the way to uh villandres which is where we’re gonna spend the night kind of in this open plane and the wind is just eating us beautiful day otherwise though foreign is having a bit of a problem with her rear wheel she had it replaced back

There in blue seems to be rubbing again squeaking we’re concerned she would like to replace it if she could yeah the whole bike got a new wheel on it but still got that squeaky noise still got a bit of rubbing that’s a problem foreign River Which is the river that cuts under shame and so beautiful it’s a gorgeous clear River by the share River next to the Sunny Meadow exactly The beautiful concrete path all the way it looks like into valandres with great views of the river big beautiful Fields but wind oh man this is tougher than any wind we faced crossing the U.S because we’re climbing the whole way Foreign River wind is blowing it Upstream so gorgeous stunning Cher that’s uh deer isn’t it Foreign [Applause] foreign Even though the wind was unrelenting it sketched a breathtakingly beautiful sky carving up the blue with Billows of gray and white and coloring the Landscapes along the Loire and they’ll share rivers with a painter’s palette of mine and though we had to fight for every pedal stroke the mood in our

Little group was upbeat coming into the laundry beautiful little welcome oh yeah this looks nice pepper Spritz time I think so we were tired when we reached the village of the laundry but the town turned out to be exceptionally pretty with an 11th century church and a Renaissance eres

Chateau just next door to our Airbnb Foreign Looks like you’ve got a little kitchen area here place to sit nice bedroom for us and a nice bedroom in there for Victor and Nadia very lovely and then here’s our back deck foreign

    1. What kind of drone are you using for the aerial shots?

Curious how the wheel issue gets resolved, if it does. Those can be expensive!

Great episode, those headwinds can be relentless!. Quite a slog at times…

    2. Gorgeous scenery and skies. Those gardens looked stunning! Enjoying every chapter of your trip. Big question- did Nadia get the job she was interviewing for in the last chapter? Hope that or something better! 💜

    3. OH MY GOD! Tours old town is so darn amazing! Cher can also mean pricey. I so much prefer climbing to having a headwind. A climb you know is going to end, the wind not so much. Château Villandry is renown for its fabulous gardens. More fond memories recalled because of your tour. Can't wait for the next.

    4. Journeyman is designed for touring. Has fender and rack eyelets, a long wheel base and chainstays. What exactly makes her think this bike is not as good as something else for touring ?, she went across the US on this bike, seemed OK ? One method to beef it up is stronger wheels, but I think the frame is just fine.

    5. The Salsa Journeyman is a good bike for your relaxed, light style of bike touring. The problem is the700c wheels and tyres on yours. They are obviously too thin and can't cope the weight of the bags. Wider wheels and at least 2 inch tyres would have done the job perfectly in all comfort. Keep the journeyman, no need to buy another bike 😉 Bonne route.

    6. No tour book, friend recommendation or brochure could capture the experience of biking in France like your videos. Well done, glorious moods on two wheels and two wonderful tour guides. Aimer, aimer!

    7. Bonjour !
      Forgive my English.
It's always a pleasure to watch your videos, the editing and the narration that made it make you want to be part of this good and happy team that crossed my country.

    8. Another great video, the EV6 along the Loire looks exactly like what I need for my next tour in June/July.
Flat(ish?), as my next tour will be after (almost) recovering from an illness, and I’ll have about 6 weeks to spare.
Thank you very much Roland & Julianna 👍
