just judging by your seat height, that frame is too big for you. by a long shot. if you feel too stretched out reaching the bars this is why, the toptube is too long. only way to fix it is get a smaller frame or get some bars that sweep wayy back

    2. I’d guess the stem is not original. Most mtbs had riser or level stems. I’d guess riser stem and riser bars will help. And maybe wider bars.

I think if you can stand over the top tube, the frame’s not too big.

    3. How tall are you? That bike looks like for someone 6’2”+. I’d probably change out the stem put riser bars or cruiser bars on it

    4. I think the frame is fine. A little big, yes, but not much.

If it feels a little long and low (which I’m guessing if you feel it doesn’t quite fit right), you could pull out he stem more or get a riser stem and/or get bars with more rise and/or sweep.

You might also want to play around with your saddle and seat post. Maybe push the saddle forward a bit or get a zero offset seat post.

    5. I’d slam the stem as low as it gets and get bars with sweepback. Also lower the yoke on the cantilever brakes, that is way too high for low-profile brakes.

Design-wise the frame is too big for you. Though I have no doubts you can make a fun bike of it, but the original bike is designed around +120mm stems with 580mm bars and loads of saddle to bar drop, so that might make the handling feel off with a short road stem that’s level with the saddle. I’ve had similar experiences with large frames, short stems and narrow bars.
