Spring is tuning up but winter is definitely still on stage giving it full gas on the outro! But the warmer, longer days will be here soon enough.

A little ‘stop the week’ MTB ride out on my local Pennine trails. It’s been quite a while since I went right up to this summit.

    Happy cycling, folks!

And you really get the wa what a side wind W my god wow just come out the shelter from that wall bloody hell oh my word all right going to put the camera away love they Hell everything’s finally right the dark made peace with the light I’m going to love you tonight like the L meets The lay down our demons and rest in this midnight Hess something so honest and WR let you come be my only one all I want is promise down all the crowns I want to live love be your legacy I want to live love be the en ofy Let It Come

Fire FL want to live love be your legacy I’m want live love be the end ofy Oh W hi folks I hope you’re doing really well welcome back to the channel and another little video and to form I’m doing a little introduction going up a hill which is never a good idea just pass through maning holes and today we’re making our way right up to the great Sentinel of

Cuerdale you can probably just see up there on the horizon studly Spike we’re coming for you just about to uh start on London Road absolutely brilliant Trails so far I’m more to come I think let’s Goold how one bring out the TRU holding up till all of it is gone lay down our so I was just uh thinking this morning that I haven’t actually been up to the top right up to Studley Pike since 1996 it’s a very long time ago it’s what 28

Years and uh although many of the rides that you do in this part of the penines and in and around cdale you see studly Pike and these other big sort of you know features like peel Tower and Emily moall for miles and miles around and they’re great sort of beacons of where

You are the route home how far you are away from that big cup of tea when you get back through the door but uh been a long time since I uh actually went right up to Studley as I said and back in the day seems A Million Miles Away now but uh

We’d often hike up uh well down into Todd and then up uh Studley Pike and then gings and go swimming this was long before the days of you know while swimming being a thing I think probably was but it was very very Niche at the time and

Uh yeah I was just looking for some root ideas this morning a couple of hours to kill this afternoon and uh fancy getting out on the bike and uh one pointy shaped Monument sprung to mind and we’re getting close to it now that looks deep think I might go around

That let’s get up there with dry feet [Applause] ehy really gaining some height now and we’re on the panine way actually at this section just going to pick up to pick my way up to the ridg line nice and stey I’ve lost that monster headwind which is

Great and I’m hoping that’ll be a really nice Tailwind on the way back what a place to ride your bike and quite excited to uh actually get up to steadly Pike and uh lay a hand on it Foundation it’s been a long time need both hands back now it is getting steep

H something so honest and WR come on be my only one Oh prise oh wow the sun’s starting to break through as well absolutely magical just doesn’t get any better than this folks what a place now how ride to my Handlebars oh man look at this love Legacy there some warmth of the sun is completely Reviving peace to my life all I want is beside me down All to be your leg want to let you love be the enemy oh lay down all the clowns I want to let love be our Legacy I want it it that be the end of Me oh my God would you look at this View s bloody saal W is this oh I don’t know if you were able to hear this the wind is absolutely wild and it’s just blowing me off the path in places it’s fantastic uh Chang the route plan I’m going to stay on the tops I’m going to make my way

Over uh I don’t want to hit gig’s D I want to skirt round it to the to the east I guess and uh try and pick up some of the uh Reservoir access roads man it’s wild up here I think I need to like lose a little bit height and

Uh hopefully things will come down a little bit but uh here’s where we are it’s fantastic okay I hope you you can hear this it’s uh the wind is not letting up but I’m back on familiar Trails now this is probably the edge of where I’ll get

To on an evening ride maybe so I can have work pole and uh what a place to be the end of the day rush hours in full swing down in the valley and I’ve got the whole of the tops to myself C it’s just absolutely fantastic and uh it’s full body workout

Today we’ve um done some penine briway we’ve done some of the Mary Towny Loop uh I let me tell you the riding around here is very very bumpy and lumpy it’s proper kind of off-road single track it’s absolutely fantastic though uh I do sometimes wish I had a

Full suspension mountain bik but it might just be me getting a bit old and soft in my uh in my dotage but yeah I’ve uh Nick’s one of my son’s breakfast qu on so I’m going to uh wolf that down have a little drink not stop too long cuz it’s pretty cold up

Here and then we’ll head into the sunshine try and get back back onto uh Blackstone edge road before the sun’s sun goes down I think we’ll manage it uh no problem at all anyway I’ll chat to you in a bit I don’t know if it comes across just how

Choppy that water is in the reservoir with the wind but yeah Breezy to say the least up here today spectacular views now oh puddle dodging with one hand I think this is another of those rides where the scull on the doors are pretty modest I maybe uh get 24 25

Miles by the time I get home but uh really feel like you’re done a bike ride proper workout all sorts of different terrain and just some of those views on the top around the back of studly Pike out of the wind were kind of reminded me when uh back in the

Day why we used to go and hike up there and on the kind of bright Summer Saturday afternoon be pretty busy but uh if you’re local to the area one of the advantages you can get up and out to these places when it’s quiet late in the

Evening especially in the summer and you really get the whoa what the side wind wa my god wow just come out the shelter from that wall bloody hell oh my word all right going to put the camera away bloody hell all right just taking shelter behind this little Verge man that wind was

Strong but yeah I was saying if you’ve got got the uh privilege of being local to some of these areas you can get out uh and explore them when they’re really quiet and for me that’s that’s the real beauty of uh of the penines and Cale and you know those

Are the mo moments and the experiences that I absolutely love uh uh seeking out on on my bicycle and uh had a few of those today oh man I feel like I’ve got post-traumatic wind gust syndrome but uh anyway enough waffling uh as ever if you made it this far in

The video thank you so much I really appreciate you following along and uh supporting the channel and uh please do consider liking and subscribing if You’ be so kind it’s kind of helping me to get the love Channel off the ground and get a little bit more established so I

Really appreciate it uh please stay safe take care and uh Havey cycling I’ll see you on the next one I got a bit of a road series coming up actually and uh I’ll tell you more about that uh perhaps in the next video but bye for Now

    1. A proper adventure with a classic summit for an objective. I was wondering which way you were going to tackle it.
Superb trails cutting from Walsden to the Shepherd's Rest – those miles cost a lot more than road riding so it's no wonder you were feeling it towards the end. As you said, it's a full body workout on a hardtail.
In the early 2000s I had a run-in with a large walking club on Stoodley who were very vocal about the lack of bike access at the top so it's definitely wise to pick a quiet 'off peak' timeslot. Your outing looked perfect – deserted almost.

    2. Great ride out there along the tops of Calder well done !! could you please tell me the make of your mtb an model i couldn't catch the name on the frame..great ride an thank you.

    3. Amazing ride! I rode up Horseshoe pass on the same day. Catching the wind side on, especially when travelling downhill at speed was challenging to say the least. Rewarding and it blows the cobwebs away 😁
