We took a trip with another couple to do some Epic cycling in Nice, France -Col du Eze, Col de la Madone, Col du Turini, La Colmiane
On our way to nice so i’m back at the airport waiting for oversized baggage the bike did not come so hopefully the next thing coming out of this door is my bike case please let it be my bike that’s it here’s how you transport your bike in
Nice here’s how you bring your bikes to europe you just pack them in a bike box and away they go good morning first day cycling in nice it’s gonna be epic well here we are first bike ride in nice what do we think paul what do we think
Beautiful well if you were wondering is nice the right place to come cycling oh there’s your answer it is alay and paul his testament way to book this trip now that’s a proper coffee break i’d say on the way up to es village fresh off our coffee break pretty good bike infrastructure
Pretty good well we’re on a little strava route having a walk holy crap [Applause] yep a little shortcut strava well this morning started off with a bit of crazy adventure day two 72 miles a lot of climbing just got ourselves above nice first after going through a graveyard with a church we’ve made it to lavon we’re hoping to have breakfast Unbelievable Okay we’re about to climb uh torini which was on the tour de france in 2020 4000 feet of climbing and uh we’re here at the base ready to go only uh 4 000 feet to go so we’re just taking a little break here on the call to torini
Looking down on the village we just came through taking a well-earned break and we have about 11 kilometers to go to the summit and it’s nice and shady and six to eight percent not bad uh but make no mistake we’re working hard and enjoying every minute of it so this
Is paul henry he’s my riding partner and uh trip planner extraordinaire paul sets the pace and i just suck wheel alley really good no american i’m glad good luck okay made it to the top of the call to torini last mile was absolutely challenging as heck
But nice spot up top here we’re going to get a little bite to eat and some food all the motorcycles that came up got a bunch of minis the real minis the original i want to come around on the right a little bit just for this beauty of the
Riding along the mediterranean on our way to antique here’s a look at nice from antibes you can see the alps in the background mediterranean just calm today beautiful sunrise ride for breakfast good morning it’s july 1st and paul and i are doing call de ese
And call the madone it’s going to be a great day 51 miles we hope we do it uh course starts out pretty easy here this morning right along the mediterranean on the cycle path which is just amazing infrastructure mediterranean sea on our right heading into the town of eze along the cliffs there
Really a glorious morning thursday we’ve ridden uh four days in a row amazing okay we’re on the call to essay just starts suddenly right out of the bottom of the town video the cloud coming in see what just 15 minutes of work will get you get you above the sea
And a view of nice hey we’re getting there i think we’ve uh come close to conquering it with that not a bad backdrop for the morning pretty cloudy right here is where the tour de france came up pino romaine man it’s just awesome okay that’s called eze in the books
Uh not too bad actually i would say right not too bad of an effort and uh it took us about an hour from the apartment to get up here nice job straight on oh coming down from a village above here’s monte carlo paul lots of traffic there’s the yacht harbor all right we’re
Officially descended uh down into menton as you can see we’re at the sea so this is where the the climb madone starts right here yeah gcn we’ve got uh 2 900 feet of climbing in about nine miles menton was a little confusing but we got it and here we go [Applause]
400 feet down paul henry is left the field in the dust keep going you’re doing great keep going up it’s truly spectacular getting up looking across to saint agnes down the roads we’ve come up out to menton in the mediterranean get the out laura this is my riding partner such a gem oh
God maybe the most beautiful michael what this is 700 feet to go done with the amazing views of saint agnes a couple of italians behind us paul right there ah the road is just beautiful flattened out oh absolutely gorgeous uh not bad cycling in the south of france magnifico magnifico
So this is the finishing two tenths of call of madone it was hard but we’re there we only have to climb 40 more feet we think great day of cycling this is it we impressions easy yeah right really nice climb yeah i’m end the call this guy does it every day
There it is top of the call de la madon beautiful day here in france And that’s the call to essay and called the madone completed check beautiful finish down here at the coast of nice it wasn’t too bad actually paul crushed it and boy oh boy was it worth it it’s the epic ride i think it was better than torini if you ask me and the
Descent was forever just phenomenal that’s what i’m talking about this 1500 year old home the bridge down there and then up the hill you come to that old port strong on the climb mexico um oh wow well as everyone will tell you you come to nice and you come to cafe to
Sick least and that’s why we’re here to get some t-shirts for the climbs we did good morning from the tap to tour 2021 reimagined out here with paul we’ve been on the road for an hour we left at uh 4 45 in the morning going up the valley
Got 109 miles to do how many feet of climbing we got about eleven and a half thousand feet left eleven and a half thousand feet and it’s just gorgeous gonna be a great day quick coffee first stop of the day 30 miles in smells good okay we’re just at the beginning of the
Uh call la comaine la nine it’s a ten mile climb almost four thousand feet of climbing it’s actually so beautiful you wanna stop and take a picture every i don’t know ten feet check it out coming on up just a nice steady climb 28 tooth chainring just a little bit more to go
Coming through another cute little village they’re never in little ski station up there well that’s it where i made it to the top four thousand feet la comene whew where do we want to be what do we think of this little now we get a little descent down from the ski town
Well that was a hell of a climb yeah only two more like that then we go on uh about one and a half miles to go up called the torini it’s been raining the whole way paul’s trying to dry off his garment so he can get a reading
We’re holding about 210 to 220 watts and keeping our heart rate under 140 and that seems to work feel a lot better than we did this five days ago okay we did reach the top of torini we’re in the same lovely hotel restaurant staying warm and
Now we have like a 20 mile descent in 52 degree weather it’s gonna be really cold but my friend gave us le journal and it’s gonna be better because of that hey look what pulled into port come at two five masted laser schooner nice Hey that’s gonna do it for the tap 2021 my first paul’s third i’ll be back Will you be back oh yeah yeah sorry all right that’s it it was a fantastic trip viva la france It’s a little tight is all i will say but it worked all week you

Looks like a wonderful time!Absolutely beautiful 👍
Epic vlog! Thank you for taking us on this adventure, beautiful scenery!
Fantastic ride. Going to Nice at the end of the week and would love to do some of the routes. Would you share the name of your strava account? Thanks
Yeah, life is short and we should enjoy it as often as possible. And to sit on a bike and drive along cote D‘Azur is satisfaction. Same feeling at the italian Riviera. To climb for hours with a bicycle to a pass height is something special. I do that alone and tham I am in my cosmos. I totally feel the life. Breath, Sweat, Heat, heart rate, pain….
Just found this video, great stuff.
I live in Nice, done a few of the cols you did – Madone, Eze.
Sometimes it's easy to take the beauty of the are for granted, thanks for reminding me.
