We’re training for an infamous bikepacking race, the Silk Road mountain race (held in Kyrgyzstan, Central Asia), and exploring the beauty of the Baltic country, Estonia – so decided to load up the gravel bike and ride out to Keila Joa, near Tallinn to see the incredible natural waterfalls!

I’m on a bike packing trip to prepare me for next year’s silk road mountain race so i’ve set out from estonia’s capital city tallinn to go and see some waterfalls i’ve heard so much about it’s also a good opportunity to carry the same weight as a race feel how unsteady

I’ll be on the bike I depart talon in the early afternoon and ride west to explore estonia’s stunning coastline expecting it to be nice and flat I thought my studies has to be flat i’ve just gone up an enormous hill it’s like to say this uh coastal cycling is gonna be good for silk pro mountain race training i can definitely see that now and it’s definitely not just a slow gimbal on flat ground as i thought it was After riding for around 30 kilometers find a great place next to the sea to set up camp in time to incredible sunset the temperature is pretty warm so race to get it up before being attacked by mosquitoes So The sound of morale right there tonight i’ve got a pred hawaiian voice dish That was fast that job was cooked in like five minutes i’m 20 year old 15 20 miles away from thailand kept up by the sea excited got a tent up just been building my little camp for this evening just checking on water levels that’s beautiful it’s at 24

Degrees and just super warm i’m going to sleep with that tent but mosquitoes are too high and i don’t fancy waking up every 10 minutes eats into myself so i’m just gonna have some some lovely hawaiian rice tonight for dinner and before we get an early night really quite an incredible incredible

Place to come one of the most beautiful places i think i’ve ever stayed in Doesn’t really seem to get dark at night so the sun will linger just over the horizon and it will stay pretty light yeah super exciting to get out and get miles under my belt and get a little bit further forward for the silk road mountain race it’s been on my bucket

List for a number of years now and now it’s seems like the best thing that i can do to to help me recover from a mountain accident and and lots of things learned and a lot of things take away things i can do better things that i’m quite happy with new kits

Things need to buy in the future but yeah pretty good um i need to increase the distance and increase the increase of mileage and spend more nights out doing this stuff so it feels probably the skills feel properly locked in i wake up early make some breakfast and

Collapse the tent so i can make my way to see the waterfalls It’s a good coffee got some water on board some snacks feeling good this inspired me to do much longer trips next time I ride past some more beautiful beaches on the way can’t help but stop and go for a swim in the baltic sea It’s a little chilly but refreshing so i get the stove out and cook myself up some instant mashed potato and mix it with some super noodles to warm myself up whilst it is summer i’m starting to fall in love with the concept of bike packing but soon realize it’s nothing new

Cycle touring has been around for decades but it seems to be enjoying a renaissance right now it fits well with my lifestyle as my free time for long endeavors is somewhat diminished so i have to snatch these adventures wherever i can Estonia is really well set up for these kind of trips you can camp almost anywhere in the country giving it strong orientation to wellness the country is home to many of the euroville routes like the one i’m on now so there’s dedicated bike lanes across much of the country After spending the last few years of my life narrowly dodging traffic in london this is a hugely welcome change of approach for me particularly the challenge of exploring this side of europe i didn’t know much about prior to 2022 I get to the waterfalls about an hour later and i’m utterly mesmerized how beautiful it is it looks like something out of a film It’s a weekday so the waterfalls are really quiet there’s no one else around you know i can fully wander around on my own relax here As a 21st century millennial and digital nomad exploring the country i’m seeing that estonia is really well set up for hanging out in nature meaning i can take time away from my computer screen get some fresh air plan the next step for my career and life something that’s not very achievable in

The business of london i spend a few hours hanging out here eating resting and generally planning where to see next before i have to start thinking about returning back to talon Return cycle goes quick as i know my way i head back being energizing with a whole bag of new ideas for where i’ll go on my next trip You
