Erik ten Hag on Kobbie Mainoo, style of play and fixing standards at Man Utd | BBC Sport

Still cycling bus in this winter I haven’t done so not so much have you got have you got a normal bike here I have electric at home I have a normal one a normal one yeah you need to get from A to B here cuz it’s a bit colder I always

When I was biking with my wife and she hates it I was always 20 yards ahead so then she okay I have electric okay then she was okay so she okay then we go if we want to buy together boss thank you again for your time now

This is the third time I’m getting a chance to speak to you first time when you sign then after a year the first question I want to ask is the big picture you said the big picture in regards the football club and the process of of the team is looking good

Looking very good what is the big picture for you I think we have seen glimps the last weeks from a very Dynamic proactive and attacking football we have young players coming in uh developing progressing in the right direction and we are building at that team um and I’m confident that we when

We add one two players more then this team can be a very strong side for the future I know it’s been mentioned before but I think he’s an outstanding footballer and I have to ask the question about kobby in your opinion is it is he ready to go in and around the

England environment it’s not up to me I think uh the England manager K sou know very well uh what he wants and it’s up to him um only thing what I can see and what I saw is that high potential every time he’s going to high levels every

Training every game he’s playing at higher levels so yeah he has a high potential but it’s up to him to keep the process going and yeah I have to manage this new owners you know Jim’s in in in what changes are you expecting to happen and what change what changes would you

Like to happen I think especially on the performance side they they can help us a lot to to uh building culture with high standards and we are ready but you came to the club boss and you changed those standards yeah you we spoke about this she said I want to change the standards

Of the club I want to change the culture of the club and you’ve started to do that already you know can they enhance that can they make it better alongside what you’re doing they can accelerate the process okay and I think this CLP has fallen down uh in in the standards

But now we are back and I already have so seen some examples where they can really support to us to set that right standard what is the Eric ten hog way of playing I think it’s clear I always want to play uh football from the back uh

That’s why also we signed Onana that’s why we signed Lia martinz and that’s why we signed casemiro also I want to dictate all the time where it’s possible in High block I want to be on the front foot all the time goals have been hard

To come by anyway but now it’s going to be even more difficult cuz H’s uh not in the not in the side not in the squad are we going to struggle now because he’s not there first of all I think in in Autumn yeah we we were not even a threat

But we have seen we worked on this and I think in January February our front line uh was a threat and we scored many goals but yeah when he’s not there hland yeah others have to take over but then still we have Frontline players who can make

The difference and if they don’t score yeah then it has to come out of all the areas from the midfield for instance like Scott Momin yeah when we have the players available we can work on that consistent performance but everyone knows when you over a longer period and

You missing very key players yeah then yeah you have to be sometimes pragmatic I’m not walking away from it it’s about results how do you deal with them um all the outside noise at the moment the noise will be always around Manchester United when we are not winning football

Games but it’s about the standards we set and it’s about what for us is acceptable of what isn’t and we know when performance are not right you we have to to look in a mirror and to tell each other the truth and to to C things right fans are getting frustrated what

Would you say to them there are always many fans away and home and they are standing behind us but it start with us we have to give the energy into the St and then it comes back it returns and we will grow from that uh but as I said it start with us

    1. Statistics can famously be deceptive, but Ten Hag's win percentage is currently higher than that of every previous permanent United boss (not including interim managers). Ten Hag has led United to victory in 51 of his first 83 matches, giving him a win percentage of 61.45%.WIN LOSE Or DRAW ALWAYS UTD 💪💪 COME ON UTD 💪💪💯💯

    2. Still believing in tenhag.he is the man on a mission.
Situation is pathetic.he is capable of doing the right things at man utd.but really needs more midfielders and center backs those who are good in build up and a striker in transfer.he will succedd❤❤❤ggmu❤❤tenhag❤

    3. Ten Hag not getting grilled in an interview for once? An actual, honest conversation with him by British media? I can't believe what I'm seeing!

    4. Give they guy a break and time to build a platform for the club, Rome wasnt built in a day look at what he achieved at Ajax. Id say another full season (without Onana) and you will see the progress

    5. I REALLY wanted him to do well but Antony and Onana have been horrific signings, some of the worst we've ever had. Mount? Amrabat? It's been a disaster & if you think it's all about injuries – they are on him too and his training regime & physio team.

    6. This is the interview not talking about dressing room issues, our club issues, sporting directors ask ABT Football ⚽,players on field, plans planned ahead, thats wat most of us asking ourselves we wanna know erik ten hag style of play formations he prefers not rashford issues he can suck it up play as matured player his old now we at the same age imagine 😂

    7. really hope the club backs ten hag and he works under a proper structure unlike what he's been dealing with the clowns up top we used to have. the other appointments utd are linked with im not moved with at all, they are not as good as ten hag

    8. Signed Onana to play out from the back yet he only makes passes that even Joe Hart could make. He literally rolls the ball out to his nearest defender. 🗑️

    9. Wants to play football from the back but Onana keeps lumping it forward, Casemiro is not good with the ball
Think the manager is deluded because there are many things going wrong and hard to fix

    10. Sort this toxic club out at executive level, which Ineos seem to be at least trying to do. Work with him in the summer transfer window and give him until Christmas at least. Who else is there really? People talking about Potter and Southgate, make me piss with laughter. Don't want those two anywhere near United. Only person I would sack ETH for is Ange.
