Matteo Jorgenson bridged a gap of nearly two decades in Paris-Nice when he became the first American since 2006 to win the Race to the Sun on Sunday. It was almost a home win for the Californian, who lives in Nice and trains on the roads of the 109.3-km final stage. Gone on the five climbs of the day with Belgian champion Remco Evenepoel and stage 7 winner Aleksandr Vlasov, the Visma-Lease a Bike rider methodically dropped compatriot and childhood friend Brandon McNulty, the leader at the start, to clinch his greatest win to date. Evenepoel, who shook the race with several attempts, sealed a promising Paris-Nice with a prestigious stage win on the Promenade des Anglais.

On the penultimate day Alexander vlasov produced a powerful finish to win of the madon dutel for a first victory in nearly 2 years Randy mcel dug deep to hold on to Yellow 2005 healed the last American winner of pinise UAE Ryder with a fight to hold out yeah mixed of

Everything excitement nervous tired but no in the end it’s going to be an aggressive day so yeah we we’ll give everything it’s hard to say I mean it’s been a really tough week but I think everyone is suffering I hope but yeah we’ll see it’ll be really aggressive

Especially the last few climes so I hope the US with two chances to end 18 years of hurt yet mattio Jorgenson riding in his home from home his favorite training climb propelled the 24-year-old to the biggest title of his career today there’s yeah lots and lots of things

That can happen but uh the good news is I know the stage well and yeah I’ve watched many many additions of this race and this last stage is probably like the best bike race of the year so it’ll be good for the viewers that’s for sure or

Could Remco evapo make it a three-way fight in any case all set for a lively conclusion to parin 2024 it’s going to be uh a bit of the feeling on the moment itself and uh see how the race develops and then whenever there’s a good situation we might try uh

But yeah 30 seconds is quite quite a lot but um yeah we will have to to see and uh read the race very well a short explosive stage for The Last Ride of the 82nd parin plenty challenges on the last track three Category 2 ascents and a category 1

Climb before a long difficult drag up to the summit at K Dez with segments at 133% then a much punchier in steeper climb of K proceeding a fast drop back to the coastline and Lead there onle the first wave of attack saw camping art out alone py first then yobs

Dropped Lotto Destiny’s Belgian all alone with more than 80 km to go after kicking up lot leevan card’s up and over the first of five climbs of the day around a minute in advance of the first of the two chasing groups the Bel on at 1 minute 30 the group of GC favorites

Close the gap mcnalty in need of support he finally found a teammate to try and bridge the gap to the leading group the 3 km from the summit another brutal attack you win by digging to the depths of resources the Bel a master of it mcnalty unable to respond as Alexander

Vlasov was the only one willing to try and follow the wheel of Jorgenson in covering the break the Russian making it a front three while down the road mcnalty knew his yellow Jersey dreams were blowing up started the day just 4 seconds ahead of Jorgenson mcnalty took off in a

Desperate attempt to try and Salvage something from today as The Descent turned into the climb at C de Evan aole had led up but a sign of strength from the American moving ahead of the pseudo Quickstar leader for maximum bonus seconds Hall nobody able to help the my of mnel

As the Gap only got more daunting stage Victory between three the destiny of the parin title between just two defending from the front having seen Evan aole lead up the majority of the climb the chasing pack unable to make up the time and then vlasov finally cracked

That left Remco versus Jorgenson a title not in doubt evapo and Jorgenson speeding towards la promad de zong which just the stage Hors up for grabs Remco a a has done all the ring today the Belgian national road race champion heading to second overall Jorgenson will ride in with number he’s

Not concerned about that Remco AO can at least celebrate stage success but it’s Matel Jorgenson that is your overall winner no first Belgian win since 98 but his week ending on a high and the arrow bullet looking forward to a first T def France that will Finish an emotional win for jorgens in his first major stage race in the world tour after winning the tour of omen last year a new team and incredible Launchpad for his career I like I’m shaking so uh it’s just a huge moment for me and I’m super

Happy and proud and thankful for all my teammates and the team and yeah just feeling a lot of emotions at once Jorgenson timed his Ascent into yellow perfectly EV second mcnalty settling on the podium with gamusa in fourth the green jersey changing on the final day as Evano nabbed enough points

The Belgian taking it from M Pon the D slipping to Fourth scosa and Jorgenson on the points Podium evapo rewarded for his climbing performance the king of the mountain the Belgian Champion ending three clear of Badoo who held on to Second the same point points ascaron jorens Singh grabbed yellow

    1. Bravo to Matteo and to today's era of US cyclists. But shame on you guys for intentionally not mentioning Bobby Julich's name as the last US winner.

    2. Race organizers tried to hide Flasov's nationality by showing a blank flag next to his name, and then the commentator goes and revealed his nationality to all😂😂
