Episode 2 of Abbie Bikes Britain.

In late summer 2021 Abbie Barnes cycled from Dunnet Head and John O Groats to The Lizard Point and Lands End, via each of the UK’s 15 National Parks and their highest peaks.

This epic 55 day expedition saw Abbie and her partner Anna (who drove the support van) travel over 2000 miles and battle mental ill health, chronic pain, and a number of unanticipated life-challenges along the way. Yet the duo completed this life-changing venture and now have a 3-part film series on YouTube following the highs and lows of their journey.

The purpose of Abbie Bikes Britain was to raise awareness about how:
    – our green spaces need protecting
    – community saves lives
    – mental health matters
    – our stories deserve to be heard

    1. I also found your videos during lockdown it’s amazing what you have achieved in the last two years it’s spurred me on to get out in the wild again also I cycled up the pass years ago so feel the pain to

    2. Another beautifully filmed and thought provoking episode. Your point about our relationships with nature is central to the tackling of the climate and environmental crises. Many people are profoundly disconnected from the natural world. If we can change this, there remains some hope that humanity can save itself from looming catastrophe.

    3. Woah. What an episode. This is the reason why I wanted to be a part of your tribe. All the emotion and 'life' available to see and normalise for everyone who watches. Appreciate you both and my word that Snowdon climb was epic, I remember that sun coming out and shouting at the top of my lungs 😍

    4. You tugged pretty hard at my heart on this one. I’m sure it’s strange to think of people who don’t know you being so affected, but we all feel the same feelings. You are strong and supported by Anna, your friends and a community you have built. Hike, bike and stand strong.

    5. This was profoundly moving to watch – your strength and commitment to overcoming all challenges is truly inspirational. You remind me of what is important in life and how much we can do if we just put one step in front of the other and lead with love <3

    6. Abbie, you are a true inspiration and a true warrior. You've inspired me (an overweight hgv driver) to get out in my beautiful county and start the wainwrights. I'm only on 6 at the min, but we all start from 0. Thankyou for promoting the lake district (and other beautiful areas we are lucky to have in the uk) to the world

    7. What a fantastic film.. I’m wowed by the filming, the content and the stamina that must have been this project, thank you for making mental health a talked about condition…

    8. Wow Abbie I’m not an emotional person but that video really got to me. Superb effort from everyone involved, off to watch the last leg now. Keep up the good work and keep that lovely smile going . X

    9. Another great video! Your words about earning your self-respect ring so true. I hope you can hold on to that because you deserve it. 👍

    10. Great video Abbie, never underestimate your value and your contribution to inspiring people to seek the outdoors to better themselves. I can honestly say I have taken inspiration from your adventures.

    11. Can’t believe the M48 service station made an appearance in the documentary 😂 another great instalment. Once again very well put together, love the drone shots.

    12. We’ve followed you on YouTube for years Abbie, we have seen you grow & learn from your experiences. You truly are an inspiration. We did a charity hike to Scafell pike for The Samaritans & raised quite a bit for them, that money will help save peoples lives & that really inspired us to do more.

    13. I cried at how you felt in this video and how I feel all the time, you definitely hit the nail on the head, for me anyway at the way you feel, it rings so true, you're so very lucky to have a partner like you've got, you suit each other so much and I wish you both nothing but happiness. Keep strong and thanks for sharing how painful depression is, I'm actually thinking of going on a wild camp because of you. Love all your videos so far and I've now sat through hours of them, not 1 second have I wasted, they've been inspiring and you speak like a poet, you've definitely got the gift of the gab. Keep it up and be strong 💪 ✨️ 🙏

    14. Absolutely amazing Abbie! You and Anna have presented a spectacular, thought provoking and inspirational film. So much valuable content and honest words. Such important topics from saving our beautiful planet to the challenges of mental health and so much more. I, like many others also deal with mental health issues. You brought me to tears and I thank you from the bottom of my heart 💜

    15. I really enjoy Abbies wanderings, but she ought to tone down the "about me" tangents. She ought to be grateful she gets to do what she enjoys, many dont ! Courage is not the absence of fear, rather there are things more important than fear.

    16. How much do I love your self talk … I am happy that you’re here, a perfectly imperfect human. Wherever you are today, I hope you feel the admiration I have for you that you continue to fight the fight. I am happy that you’re here x

    17. There has always been village idiots, Abbie (and Anna), and also bullies too. Sadly, the Internet has given these people a megaphone and the ability to join forces, so they're much louder and even more obnoxious than they used to be. At the end of the day, MOST people are still decent, kind and helpful. So, in the words of Ronnie Barker (from well before you were born), "Don't let the bastards grind you down!"

I usually watch your videos with the sound off (and with subtitles on), using them with techno, trance and dance music for spinning. (Your walks have helped my training a lot – thank you!) Just occasionally, a video will grab my attention more than normal and I'll watch it again later, properly, sitting in an armchair and with the sound on. This was one of those, and I will watch it as you intended it to be watched later tonight.

I often say that all of my problems are first world problems, and seeing you dealing with your mental health issues also brings it home to me how fortunate I've been to have avoided such things. Hang in there, both of you – and NEVER let the bastards grind you down, be they internet trolls or your internal demons.

Greetings, and all best wishes, from Sweden.
