[Applause] All right hello and welcome to Dickinson’s real deal today the show comes to you from Worcester in the West Midlands there’s a great crowd of people and they’ve brought along their Treasures they really want to do business you know sometimes our deals are how can I sing

They’re a bit careful with their money whole one cut and that’s 99 Pence too many no good Lord a Pfizer no go on be a devil Let’s Get It On This is the real deal [Applause] Let’s head to new dealer Faye Rutter’s table first where John’s hoping she’ll cross his palm with silver I bought a Christian in Morgan and I’d like a police 250 pounds nice piece of silver very decorative quite a stable piece I’ve been really happy to buy this

But will you give John the 250 pounds is after is it something that’s come down through your family no no I used to collect um silver and especially christening mugs and this was about the best one I had um this one’s dated 1828. yeah that’s right so it makes it Georgian Regency period

And it’s in very nice condition really considering the age of it um it has this really lovely acanthus Leaf detail around the mug and I tell you what I really like about this where there would usually be a monogram or an inscription yeah there isn’t it’s

Been left clear now I don’t think so that inscribed makes it salable for me because when it has somebody else’s initials it always makes it a bit difficult gilding inside is lovely so again it indicates to me this hasn’t been worked on in any way we’ll have a look at the marks

Underneath we have a leopard’s head for London and we have the date letter N which we’ve said was 1828 and we believe that the maker was a Charles Fox so it really is a very pretty thing really decorative and you’ve obviously cleaned it well because you can see all

The residues of the silver polish yeah it hasn’t been cloned for a wall it’s a lovely lovely piece right let’s put some money on the table and see if we can buy it okay 20. 40 pounds how does that seem John Miles Away miles away miles

Take that one away shall we for a second 60 70 . I’m going to put 75 pounds down on the table John a few miles away miles okay maybe I’m being a little bit mean put another one down 95 pounds John I think if you put down double uh it’s

That still wouldn’t be enough do you know what I would really value David’s opinion on this one you know I’ve just run across the mine independent values and the estimation for it is 2 to 250. I thought why is that I’ve gone back to see my people

They tell me the silversmith Fox is very desirable and I have to say getting up close it is a delightful object but if we can’t get up there towards the 200 or thereabouts you and I should get down to the auction we’re not giving stuff away on Dickinson’s real deal yeah

I think I’ve just been told off a bit there I tell you what I’m going to do 100 120 130 pounds now that’s where I’m going to stay okay so now you have to decide what is best for you I think I’ll go to auction thank you for bringing it along thank you very much yeah I’m looking forward to seeing what happens I don’t think John was very impressed with my 130 pounds but that really was my top offer I hope he gets what he wants for it let’s see if our Auctioneer Martin Lambert agrees I must be worth more than that wonderful thing mid 19th century heavy wonderful chasing really good item

I’m still hoping to get around 250 pounds from auction but it’s a gamble but it’s worth taking 55 well you are looking for top end John do you remember what you paid for it about 16. the estimate is 2 to 250 the reserve is set at 200 pounds the market

Is up and down with silver let’s see what happens it is a quality piece and we go on to Lot number 98’s is the little silver Campana form Christine tanker superlative quality that originally get much better than this uh 131 4150 and 160 160 pounds here with me at 160

Pounds and 171.80 190 thank you at 190. it’s crapped up there it’s made to reserve in the room at 210 pounds then super super quality at 210 you’re out online there’s bidding here as always it still sells when it’s quality well it’s 210 all done at 210 only yeah

Gambler’s gone down at 210. take away the commission 172 pounds our new Young deal of Faye offered a hundred and thirty pounds she knows her stuff that girl but she’s careful with her money real deal here in the sale room take home 172 quid happy yes I’m happy as well

At the end of the day it was 42 pound more than five the dealer offered me so I have to be happy with that that’s the way to look at it Back in the den Norma is a woman on a mission watch out David tottman I brought in two Mission pipes and I’m going to milk David for every penny I can I really would like 800 pounds 80 pounds don’t lower your expectation too quickly what have you brought in for us today

I’ve brought in two meersham pipes that belong to my husband’s grandfather a wave you decided to to sell them well I’ve been sitting in a drawer at home for many years and we now have two little twin grandsons so I think the money in their account would be lovely all right

Well let’s have a look and see what we’ve got as you say two Mission pipes do you know what mission is not really measure is a fossil and because it’s very soft it carves incredibly well so you get beautiful pipes and this is of a I think an Edwardian lady these wonderful curls

And flowers in the back of her hair now Mission it starts off white but when it’s held and used it fascinates down to this wonderful honey yellow color so this has been well used this pipe oh has it yeah and the mouthpieces are made of Amber because the Amber is much

Harder than the mission and therefore is much longer lasting they’ve got their original cases normally they would have had the names of the makers and they’re normally made either in Austria or Germany Victorian late 19th century early 20th century and let’s look at the other one

As you can see this one hasn’t been held so much around the ball because the hand itself has got this wonderful brown color and the pipe ball itself has been left white again you’ve got the Amber mouthpiece and also in very good condition that’s told you all about that right now

Have you any idea what you’re expecting to get for them oh Lots well they’re not worth it no one smokes anymore that’s the bad size so they are very collectible people do collect this yes yes right I’ll put somebody down okay I could put down 20 40. I gotta look there 80.

A hundred 120 pounds how does that sound Probably sounds rather a lot actually you may be would you go a little more I think that’s about as far as I prepared to go well um I think we have a deal are you sure yes I think I’ve given you a bit too much

For this but thank you very much indeed for bringing them in thank you 40 pounds more than I expected thank you David that I think I can still make a profit so Norma put that in your pipe and smoke it don’t get too cocky Melvin how would you do mother and son

Team Melvin and Alma are hoping to coin at him when they sit down with Joe brochure well we’re going to try and have a bit of a battle with Joe today and squeeze out as much as we possibly can but I think mother will probably have the last say well we’ll try our

Best and see if we can get exactly what we’ve come for the region of 200 pounds for the two I like a bit of gold next to Diamonds it’s a girl’s best friend let’s rock and roll who do they belong to well the Sovereign belongs to me and the dollar belongs to

Mother have you have you been in charge of these for a long time or yes The Sovereign was given to me when I was born which is um quite a few years ago 21 years ago yeah I learned dollars were given to me by my uncle about 30 years ago feel a bit

For 21 years well no because it really hasn’t been in real life it’s just been tucked away in a drawer and and that’s it right um see lots of sovereigns I don’t see quite so many um little American dollars and I think there are 22 carat as our

Sovereigns are out there yes it’s clearly marked on the front one dollar and it’s dated 1853 and it says quite clearly the United States of America this very glamorous looking and I believe she gives her name to this it’s the Liberty Head dollar I see it has a little hook on the top

Has it been on a charm bracelet no idea that’s just how it was given to me and then we’ve got a sovereign 22 carat this one’s dated 1913 so nice example it hasn’t had a hard life by any means right are you going to um blow this money on something particular

Or you just oh yes um I’ve got a son that lives in Australia so if we can get enough that’ll go towards tickets for a trip to Australia again that sounds like are you both going yes let them go without me Australia here we go I hope so 68 00

Let me work out what these are worth 200. 220. I think we could um do with a bit more couldn’t we a little bit more we could have a decent seat then on the plane house another little blue one or two oh two is getting Sparky uh well it’s about 230. yeah you can do a bit more than that Joe 240.

No put the little one back oh no I’ll be a level see what David see what David says and then I’ll be absolutely skipped after he’s been here comes the big ladder whoa I’ll tell you what the big lad how she calls me is going to say I’ve just

Rushed across to my independent values because these coins are a bit of a Minefield unless you really know what you’re doing they tell me as of today there’s probably about 270 quids with there what’s on the table 240. there’s got to be a bit of a profit for

The dealer that sounds quite realistic to me 240s been offered not a lot of profit so so now it’s with you too do you think we could squeeze another tenor out of it not a chance [Laughter] I don’t really do fibers anymore I know better than nothing though in a dark spot

Um no I’m sticking with my 240. you’re sticking with that I’m sticking have a good time in Australia we will let you into a little secret Joe we would have been quite happy with the 200. too late now nicely done back in the den there’s more double trouble new dealer Peter Andrews had

Better watch out as Susan and her granddaughter Katie Rose are up next I bought in a clock and I’m looking for 250 pounds great quality item I was thinking 150 to 250 pounds in my mind if I can’t persuade pay to myself I bought in my little bodyguard and she’ll flash

Her eyes at him and hopefully we’ll get what we need give it your best shot Katie Rose so who’s the owner of this clock me right and what can you tell me about it then it belonged to my late husband and it’s a lovely Clark but I think it’s

Time to move on to somebody that really appreciates well it’s a great thing it’s probably about 1950 and date and this is perspex and what’s happened is they reverse cut it and then put that gold coloring in and that’s how you get that really deep effect so you’ve got that hummingbird

And it’s almost 3D isn’t it it looks like it’s just floating in there and then you’ve got the fine quality movement you’ve got what we call a skeleton movement or an open escapement there with a balance wheel all revealed normally those things are hidden behind the dial but they’re so proud of them

They’re on display now Diego are a top grade Swiss watch and clock manufacturer Jaeger and La culture were two individuals that actually formed Diego culture as we know it in 1903 and this is an expensive product in its time still very desirable and beautiful quality what do you think of it Katie

Rose yeah I really like it do you oh I thought you’re going to say I don’t like his rubbish okay then so if you would make my clock what will you spend the money on it’s another Cruise lucky you I know the cruises aren’t cheap if we start with 20 60 80. 100.

120 140 150 pounds no no okay flush your eyes create your own I thought you were nodding then 170 190 210 230 250 pounds that’s serious Cruise money now so Katie Rose what do you think I think that’s a look of yes a bit more

I haven’t got much more yeah it’d be a nice gift for Katie Rose if I had a bit more if Katie Rose got an extra 20 then 270 pounds I think that’s a fair price offered what do you reckon okay oh God a little bit more I think you’re 20 pounds

A little treat there is very nice I thought we swap it for a 10. have we got a deal yeah yeah yes thank you very much thank you Katie Rose I wanted 250 that’s Peter generously gave me 270 so 20 pound goes to Casey Road

Gotta hand it to you girls you did well there Gareth I’m Faye how’d you do please to Purdue with favorites 18th century sampler all I’m hoping Faye will open a purse to the full extent and often be 170 pound or possibly more fantastic little sampler it’d be even better if it comes in at about 50 Quid

Is she trying to stitch you up Gareth what can you tell me about it not a lot it came from wife’s parents when they’re clearing out after the sad demise that’s about all I can tell you about this it would have been a little girl that had done this yes um Rebecca Clark

She was age 12 and the date on this is 1783. it’s very hard to make out because it has faded a little bit very often children would have practiced their sewing skills and that’s when they would have produced Samplers at the top we have the alphabet from A to Z

And then we have a few numbers I think her parents were probably gardeners or something she’s tried to denote trees and then she’s gone into this beautiful verse it’s on linen and then it would be a silks that would have been colored with natural dyes anything that was

Around at the time so the colors have faded a little bit right it says go pretty bird and take thy flight and give the little girl to Polly’s window take thy way who scorn to leave her book for play now that little bit there I really haven’t got a

Clue any guesses no I’m afraid not okay so love and learning in her youth I think that’s meant to say is the best virtue that makes her lofty like a queen what makes this quite nice usually they were religious there’s very often references to God and and Jesus there’s no mention

Of that in this at all it really is an interesting thing I’ve got to ask you why aren’t you putting this on your wall at home we’re downsizing and we just won’t have room for all the Clutter okay I have absolutely no idea what to offer

You on this at all do you know we could make a start at about 170 pounds a start oh we’ve got to be optimistic twenty 40 has 40 pound sound where do I go with something like this I’m going to put another 10 pound down on the table

Time for David to come in because I’d really value his opinion on this right you are yeah I’ve had a look at this sample and I’ve spoke with the independent valuers and the auctioneer now I’ve got two valuations I’ve got a one to 150 and I’ve got a 150 there’s a

Two I certainly think it’s worth worn that you and I should go after the auction we might get a bit better there thank you David well you’ve heard what David said I’ve been told haven’t I I’m going to put 20 down we now have 70 pounds am I tempting you yet we’re halfway to Paradise I’m going to take that 10 away and I’m going to put down another 20 that makes 80 pounds that I’m afraid is where I’m comfortable with what do you think

I think another 10 pound and we will have a deal you’re driving a hard bargain you really are 90 pounds on the table thank you Faith thank you Gareth thank you I know I originally asked for 170 pounds but I think that was a little bit ambitious so I’m happy to go over with the 90 pounds I’m gonna be happy if I get my money back thought you were here to make a profit across the den hi storm David and you

Are Fiona has a little secret that she wants to share with you at home my husband paid four pounds from Terrapin at a car boot sale but I’m not going to tell David that because I’m looking for at least 150 pounds very nice little Terrapin uh I’d love to buy it

Fiona can you tell us a bit about it I really don’t know anything about it I’ve brought it along because of curiosity and to see if I can find out more about it today from the experts and that’s you have some chance okay uh and

Where did you get it from it was a gift it was given to me and why are you selling it because personally I don’t really like it that much yeah let’s hope the person who gave it to is not watching the show wow yeah okay let’s have a look at it all

Right I think it’s a terrapin 19th century it’s Oriental and it’s made of bronze and it’s inlaid with silver which is quite nice although it’s gone very dark this would polish up and it’s all in labored silver normally I would have thought this was Japanese because the

Style of it’s very Japanese but the the silver inlay you get far more Chinese objects so I think it’s probably Chinese rather than Japanese the end of the tales being broken off at some point you see the tail isn’t quite finished and it’s a bit rough that’s been broken

But it was quite a sweet object have you any idea what you’re expecting to get for it I’ve got a idea of what I’d like to get for it yeah yeah how is that um okay I’ll put somebody down on the table for 20. 40 60. 80 pounds how does that sound oh it’s not quite enough it’s it’s pretty near what’s what I’m prepared to pay for it should we see what David has to say well I’m going to tell you what the independent advantage in auctioneers say I’ll tell you what I

Think they say 70 to 100 100 to 150. it is bronze but I think just the fact that it’s Oriental it just could be worth that little bit more money and the so-called experts on my panel might have underestimated this one well what’d you think sorry well I’ll put a little bit more

Money on the table but I’m not going to put much more money on the table a hundred pounds and I think that’s going to be pretty much my lot no I’m still gonna say no you’re gonna say no you’re gonna take it to auction yeah it’s a very very

Best of luck with it thank you and uh Naval side sector auction can you tell me what it cost or where it came from well it was actually given to me as a gift but it did cost four pounds four pounds you’ve turned down 25 times that much

Well good luck thank you very much I know I’ve turned down 96 pound profit today but I’m quite confident that the Terrapin will do better at auction I would have liked to support the Terrapin but I think I offered enough for it we’ll see wine gen neck in let’s find

Out what Auctioneer Martin reckons yeah 100 pounds that’s a pretty strong offer us I think we’ll be lucky to get a bit more on the day but you never know surely no money 130 140. she cannot make it here today I’m looking after her interest and it’s

Coming up now the reserve is now set at 70 pounds has she done the right thing should she have taken David’s hundred pounds or should she have gambled can we go on to Lot number 68 which is the late 19th century passage bronze and silver wire inlaid model of a turtle start me

100 pounds for it it’s got me 100 pounds if you’re interested well I have interest here at 50 pounds thank you 50 pounds only all about a 50 a 50 55 60 I’ve got to go 65 two bids 70. I’m out ladies gentlemen the biddings on the

Front row 70 pounds only it’s at 70 70 pounds anyone else coming in at home at 70 pounds make no mistakes the bidding is in the front row and I sell last chance of asking you get 70 pounds in all done at 70 only yeah gobble’s going down at 70 pounds that

Was right on the reserve she is now going away with 57 pounds you need to learn from something like this when the offer is good grab the money and get out of the room I told you the first offer was always the best you’re right but no one likes our smarty pants

Let’s cross the den for the final time where Sandra’s hoping that Faye will like her bling but just in case she’s brought hubby Morris for moral support being a girly I’m hoping that she’ll go for the diamonds and I’d like somewhere around 700 pounds it’s a nice ring isn’t it I’d

Really like to buy it I’m thinking in the region between five and six hundred pounds but near a 500 would be good for me but not so good for Sandra you brought along a really beautiful diamond ring can you tell me anything about it it was my Nan’s she was married

To a wholesale jeweler in London back in the 1920s and as far as I’m aware he bought it for a gift for her and it’s been handed down to my mother and then down to me okay is it something that you don’t wear anymore no I’ve never worn it

I’m too frightened to wear it in case I lose it or something happens to it so are you going to put the money into another piece or what are you planning to do with them it’s going to go towards my husband’s 50th birthday which is coming up quite soon oh so you’ve got

Big plans for a birthday celebration I’d like to do something special for you um let me have a little look at this okay there are nine brilliant cut diamonds I believe it has a Hallmark in here or a mark of some description it actually says 18 carat there is no

Other Hallmark with it so we can’t date it exactly but this looks as if it’s a sort of 1920s 1930s it’s white gold yeah so you know when gold is alloyed white gold is allowed with silver to give it a white color um I’ll just have a look at the stones okay

Okay they’re a lovely color there’s a few inclusions that you can see when you’re looking through the glass what does that mean when I say inclusions they’re marks that you can see within the stone okay um they’re little black marks but by and large the color is very

Nice right what I’m going to do is I’m going to measure so we can just estimate the diamond weight of the ring and each Stone on my gauge is coming out at about 20 points so these nine diamonds gives a total Diamond weight of approximately 1.8 carat yes so that sounds quite

Impressive I mean obviously if it was a a single Stone of a 1.8 carat it would be better it would be worth an awful lot more but nonetheless it’s still a pretty ring and it still has a nice Diamond content to it what I like about this is

That I like the setting with it being like a flush setting so the stones aren’t held in with claws because I always find if I wear a ring and I’m putting tights or whatever claws caption you pull claws you lose stones and things so that does actually make that

Quite a nice wearable ring oh my goodness me what am I going to pay for this you’re going to want lots of money yes please oh my goodness okay let’s have a look I’ll get some money out right 100 and 200. 220 40. 60 80. 300 320 340 360. 380.

400 pounds no it’s not not enough you know for 20 for 40. 460. 480 pounds so I wanted a bit more than that nope David is here well I’ve just stepped in this stage there’s Fair bit of money on the table but now’s the time really to give you an indication what the

Independent values and the auctioneers say now they’re both in unison on this They say six to eight hundred frame I think it’s attractive the problem is unless you find a retail individual personally sale room that wants it it falls into the hands of dealers yeah and

They’re a little bit more dare I say hard nose it’s nice clean ring and I think it’s worth more money so keep going and there’s the alternative I will take you to the options should you wish thank you thank you David okay well we’ve listened to what David’s got to sew I need to think what I’m going to do here we have 480 pounds on the table 500 520 540 there’s 550 pounds there but that is where I want to be I’ll come back in because I I think you’ll probably thinking what shall I do I am yeah well

At 550 pounds it’s cash there are no deductions it is there on the table it’s a good offer but it’s just a professional safe offer I think it’s worth a little bit more money is whatever what I’m hedging around yeah and so in this fee is going to just push

Up that little bit more I think it is worth a gamble but you must remember there is a commission to come off here but all in all a fairly showy clean little end What I would do bear in mind what David has said I would put another 20 on the table so that makes it 570. Sandra the decision is yours what do you think now it’s entirely up to you I think we’ve got a deal thank you very much for bringing it thank you thank you if it went to auction and only got 600 pounds then I’d be taking home less so I didn’t want to take the risk and this is 570 pounds cash is in my hand now I’m

Quite happy with how the deal went and I think Sandra was lovely so I hope she’s gone away happy anyway she certainly has but are the dealers happy with their Lots today who came out on top Young Guns or old hands thank you very much Joe only bought the Sovereign

And dollar they were worth 240 pounds to be that’s what I appeared I’m a proper dealer maybe but she’s not in profit yet so far she’s only sold the sovereign well that wasn’t my best day was it one item for David too he was very confident he’d make money on Norma’s Niche and

Pipes even though we paid her more than she expected but I think I can still make a profit so Norma put that in your pipe and smoke it Andy was right he had no bother selling it to a specialist dealer But it’s our new kids who are showing our old dogs a trick or two Faye bought two of the three items that came her way thank you Pete thank you Gareth she decided to keep the sampler and hang it on her wall at home and then there was that stunning diamond ring

570 pounds on the table Sandra the decision is yours I think we’ve got to do Sandra wasn’t a gambler but Faye was and it paid off when she sold the ring at auction I’m really pleased with myself today good for you that just leaves our newest

Dealer Peter he only had the one item body recognized quality when he saw it jaegler culture clock that’s a name to conjure with between you and me there was a buyer lined up already my hand and talk about mcginners look no one was more surprised than Peter

When that German collector flung a toner casheton and Peter you get a gold star for fairness too he generously sent Katie Rose 80 pounds out of his Willies to put in her piggy bank well done you don’t forget to join me David Dickinson next time for Dickinson’s real deal see you [Applause]
