Hi everyone! I’m a beginner to road biking and I’m looking at getting either the Domane or emonda. I know that the emonda is more of an aggressive geometry which makes me a bit nervous. I tried both bikes today in a shop and they both felt pretty comfortable to me. Could anyone share some advice as to which would be better for a first road bike? The pictures are the ones I’m considering, thanks in advance!

  1. Something I wish I knew as a beginner was the importance of a bike fit. If you pick up the wrong size it will cost you more in the long run if this is something you plan on sticking with. I own an Emonda and love the bike! No complaints.
If you want to try little gravel, Domane can do both. Has clearance for wider tires and racks.

  2. How will you be using it? Fun rides or races? Lots of climbing or lots of flats? Are you young and flexible, or (like me) older and ouchy all the time?

The Emonda is more of a race bike; the Domane is an endurance bike so you’d be more upright on it. I don’t think I’d be comfortable on the Emonda over longer distances, but I am very comfy on the Domane…but again, it’s what you can tolerate and still enjoy. Both are terrific bikes, but my neck cries just thinking about time on the Emonda.

Gotta admit, I like the color on the Emonda better than this year’s non-black Domane AL5. I want one but I’m waiting to see what next year will bring.
