Good morning good morning it is early and I’m in Manchester and the reason I’m in Manchester Airport is because obviously I’m going on a fly and I’m going to do a bike ride I won’t say where I’m going yet you probably even see it already on my insta right

You have on Instagram you can fall minutes remit to Kate kookaburra and another one at the end with someone who had just Keiko cover so yeah that’s that it’s very exciting and this is a ride that I I’m a little bit nervous about doing because it’s out of my comfort

Zone it is not specifically a road event so yeah and it is pretty chilly into the air a little warm heart you ever tried to go to the toilet in an airport with a massive backpack with a helmet and a camera strapped to you on that was

Felt like someone with crystal means yes yeah I did keep that a secret very long where I’m going I’m going to Switzerland and I’ll explain more when I’m there and show you but I’ve already checked my bike framing yeah the bike frame is checked in and waiting over there for my

Instagram but this is my ends around as you can see what not to in real time yeah I’ve just checked in yes I’m waiting for my plane ladies and gentlemen greetings I’m not in Manchester and I’m just not raining so I am a very very happy girl today because I am in sorry

I’m in Switzerland so the reason that I am in Switzerland is this behind me I’m taking part in a don’t unturn wait for this a gravel in a gravel race over three days so yes I’ve done a few gravel rides probably too and already I’m coming to Switzerland to do a couple of

Races they are set as races I will not be racing just so let’s make that clay but yeah that is what I’m doing so I am here with the brand the scoop of Renee they could say spangled or Spengler whichever you want to call it I’ve asked them themselves Brian and they’re like

Call it whatever you want so that is the name of the brand they are wheels they do carbon I’ll show that you in a minute they are insane insane wheels and so I’m going to show you my bike set up in a minute just to start us

Into this 3-day video period so yeah that is what I’m doing that’s why I’m here it’s all reckon let’s just get onto the bike so up because this is not a bike that you’ve seen and these are definitely not wheels that you have seen so yeah let’s let’s get on to it [Applause] I think smart trying to pretty while you’re fine so let’s get on to the actual setup before this three day gravel Levin talked about the frame first this is the Kinesis trips they’re 80 it is alloy and it is a 54th you don’t know what size I

Am I’m a 54 frame alloy and if you know anything about Kinesis all their bikes are like aim towards adventure and gravel and just exploration so I really like that about the brand Kinesis I’ve been very kind to lone with this bike for the weekend for this event so got to

Say thank you to them and really appreciate it and specifically heat the color and I said this about the calendar as well love the colors of bikes but I love green Green is my favorite favorite color so I really really love the color of this it is just beautiful if you

Think it’s called hairy screen actually so yeah really like that and the reason that I have kind of gone for the Kinesis is because I’ll show you now so basically the bottom bracket is higher off the ground so it will fit the wheels because these are 650b wheels they are

Carbon discs as you can see from the other side yeah I do like the look of him I’ve not ridden them yet so I’m gonna go and give him a try see what the like and I’ll let you know I’ll get on but yeah that is a setup Oh Ian let’s

Talk about the gearing so we’ve got a 40 at the front and at the back we’ve got a zoom in for this that my friends is a 46 so the ratio of that is very similar to my road bike gear my adventure bike if you like which is a 34 compact at the

Front and a 40 at the back so it’s very similar kind of ratio so I’d be getting up all the hills all the hills without setup so yeah that is all right oh and that’s my saddle Bontrager as you know and I was interested that is my favorite

To go to all the time saddle and they’ve also got flat handlebars so I’ll see how I get on with those just pretty exciting just to try something a little bit different and this is like completely different to what I’m used to so oh this willing

Give it a whirl really so you know I could not it the next performer you got to see is like the 20k warm-up group see shortly the skin [Applause] See The shows that I did try I did give it a bit of a give it a go Leone absolutely crap myself to that I’m just a new but like gravel riding I think because I’m so used to riding on the road and beating grain to like avoid gravel and

Avoid like steep little like ledges and steep little short descents but the more I did it the more I got used to it I mean it wasn’t even 20k that I didn’t even do all the laps that everyone were doing but I think I’m just going to get

Used to it we’ve got like 70 K tomorrow to do so I feel like the reason that I am doing this and documenting it is because I feel like people are new so like row biking or new to any kind of thing is the minute you kind of see me

Doing like big rides and doing doing like different sportif and I’m not saying that I don’t struggle on those but like I find them quite doable or as I think it’s interesting to actually watch when people really really struggle and it’s trouble doing that and it’s not

Nice to not be good at something or not feel like you are confident at doing some I’m gonna make me a better rider a so let’s just see how a gun tomorrow apparently someone said that there’s loads of them how pretty is this they’re so pretty

He’s gonna be like loads of ice and snow in the forest so well just give it a whirl well good have a look see how it is and then took a spin when she was gonna go get some food get ready for tomorrow so I guess I will see you

Bright and early in the morning for a day in the forest on gravel Get dressed

    1. Great video and honest as always. I’m sure you could do really well at this with your skills and can do attitude. When trying something new we work out if it’s the right thing. Shorter distances round muddy fields or longer distances on the road in Switzerland with views. I think I know what you’ll settle on in due course. Thanks again for sharing your journeys with us, love everything you do.

    2. Confucius say: cyclist who eat caterpillars get butterflies in the stomach. You looked really anxious and out of sorts! And all for our benefit. Good luck on the day, I am sure you will relax in to it.

    3. I built a gravel bike out of a $20 tip bike. 1983 Apollo steelie. I call it the black bomber. Have you thought of riding the dirty kanza? It would make an awesome vid & maybe Canyon will loan you a grail to ride!

    4. Me like the bike Katie…Would you be getting into Gravel riding in the future?! My favorite colour is Green and I called my daughter Jade haha..

    5. A gravel race is not a cross race. Aluminum/alloy is the worse frame material choice for gravel and that wheel set is effn horrid. There isn’t a supple enough tire to overcome those choices. Compliance is what you’re looking for from a frame/wheel set for long distance off road riding. Good on ya for coming to the fun side.
