A Delta Airlines Airbus A330-200, registration N861NW performing flight DL-86 from Detroit, MI (USA) to Frankfurt/Main (Germany) with 95 people on board, was en route at FL370 about 20nm north of Syracuse, NY (USA) when the crew entered a hold at altitude due to a problem with one of the engines (PW4168A). The crew subsequently decided to divert to Syracuse and declared an emergency advising they were to perform an overweight landing, one of their engines was running rough. The aircraft landed safely on Syracuse’s runway 28 about 45 minutes after entering the hold. The crew advised the engines were not that much of a concern, however, the brakes were a concern.

IMPORTANT:
The main purpose of this video is educational, i.e. to provide example situations for people who want to become pilots or air traffic controllers and to provide them with information. In addition, the aim here is to provide current pilots and air traffic controllers with access to radio conversations around the world so that they can think about how they should behave in situations they are likely to encounter in the future.
While preparing the content, I follow important aviation events and news from around the world. I check whether I can access the radio conversations by looking at the date and time zone of these events.
Then, I listen to the conversations over and over again to prepare subtitles and note down the relevant parts. Finally, I prepare an animation or get it from tracking websites and put it all together.

95 people on board?
Why wouldn’t lights work?
I don't think I've ever seen a runway swap for an emergency. Side steps for sure.
Why not jettison fuel and land with one engine?? Airline pilots train for one engine-inoperative procedures all the time.
Syracuse? You could easily make it to JFK for a "precautionary" landing. Syracuse is so set up for a random A330 landing.
Oops gave them worse winds
Another 332 was flown from DTW to SYR and the flight departed from FRA around 4:09 AM (don't know if the same crew was used).
Here is the another thing aside from the QRH "land at nearest suitable airport" that goes through the mind of a flight crew when taking the decision to divert to a smaller airport rather than JFK:
§ 121.565 Engine inoperative: Landing; reporting.
(a) Except as provided in paragraph (b) of this section, whenever an airplane engine fails or whenever an engine is shutdown to prevent possible damage, the pilot in command must land the airplane at the nearest suitable airport, in point of time, at which a safe landing can be made.
