Refereeing mistakes dominated the headlines this weekend. Liverpool stayed top of the Premier League thanks to Darwin Nunez’s 99th-minute winner but it was overshadowed by controversy around a drop-ball incident at the other end. The lads give their thoughts on that, plus the chaotic ending to Real Madrid’s 2-2 draw at Valencia in which Jude Bellingham was sent off after scoring what he thought was the winner!

Would have said two-nil yeah yeah yeah I didn’t think man united scored I was going to say 3-1 all right yeah United no no I think um I think it actually ended up being what most man united fans would have accepted from where we are yeah but it’s funny that the Hope kills

You because you score the goal and then man united fans are like because it’s that football’s never that simple is it you you predict it and you go I probably take a two ner where we are at the moment but uh look I think um yeah I’m more the Fulham game was more

Disappointing because you look at the league table in Villa and Spurs and the race for fourth and that that that was a bad loss I think man city was a bit of a free hit um but having said that I think that I’m still for frustrated with the

Fact that we defended well I think all three goals were preventable and Beyond the Harland Miss didn’t really create loads of chances they dominated the ball but didn’t create loads of chances you know what this is like a calm Mark today what isn’t it it’s like he’s not angry

He’s just sort of he’s just disappointed it’s almost like he’s he’s it’s he’s accepted he’s accepted it no I think at the end of the day Man City are so much better than Man United and there’s a reality around that but I look at the

Game and I think that he set it up the right way 10 high know he’s got his critics there’s no other way you can set it up and I thought the front four were crap I thought they didn’t hold the ball up enough to to alleviate the pressure

50 times and every time I see it his legs are wide open yeah he’s off the ground basic he’s out of control if you saw a midfielder running do that tack he’s gone in it’s a red card whether he gets the ball or not isn’t it because

The law is are you endangering a player and are you out of control yes and yes and but I think you make a great point I think gacho I didn’t want to say it but I think pull pulls out he probably does pull out a bit because you can see as a

Foot if I move that ball my my Ed had already made the decision Edison’s already coming so if he’s going to Nick it his leg’s going to he’s got look Edison’s got to do it I’m not saying he shouldn’t do it he’s got to do it but

Again it’s that gray area of refereeing isn’t it and I think people need to learn the rules because I’m not wrong and you’re not wrong you know it never gets given but it should get given because we’re trying to take this out of the game but we’re saying and you’re

Right sort of an Unwritten rule a goalie can do that well the thing is that they’re going to be saying that the goalies don’t practice them kind of tackles and whatever but even though the modern goalie plays higher and he plays that sweeper keeper role they don’t

Normally tackle but in that one instance Edison was spot on on his decision making the tackle but the reality is he’s out of control would you do that do you think that’s just because Edison’s a ball playing goalkeeper that he’s gone with his feet because a lot of go a lot of goalkeepers

Wouldn’t be comfortable to tackle like that would they in my time as a as a as a goalie I’m sliding out and going with me hands but the problem is I’ve got scars up both sets of arms where the forward comes straight over the top and

Does me because as soon as I go to ground like that I’ve got no prot I’ve got no protection yeah I think that’s where it’s I think if you’re coming out for that with your hands I’m looking at the player that I’m coming out against

As well well if I see it gacho honestly I I could go with my hands or my foot it doesn’t really bother me I know that he’s not going to want any of that kind of coming together does he he doesn’t want it but I think if it’s a big

Bruiser of a player I’m going with my feet I’m going with my feet because they will hurt me otherwise I remember an instance which would probably be exactly the same as that in the same area of the pitch Arsenal at home to man united Ian right and smich can you remember same

Thing smich comes with his feet and right boom straight over the top obviously a different time yeah but that right went to footed didn’t he he wanted to hurt him but that’s the point I’m making if you come with your hands there bang and you and you re and

Listen we can talk about all these little instances stuff that might have gone for and might have gone against them but at the end of the day the way the game played out man city just toyed with United didn’t they it kind of for me it felt like they were just waiting

They were just waiting somebody will switch off eventually they’ll get tired and they’ll just unpick it and they’ll score some goals and that that’s the way it went yeah I mean you said it on the United understand don’t you like you know you play that game a hundred times

And restart it like you do FIFA you still get the same outcome but that’s why it’s frustrating because it’s like I don’t think man man city don’t need help and it just felt a little bit like to me that referee the rashford foul people say it’s soft but the refere had already

Given three of them and he get he’d already given three of them it’s the unwritten rule that when you get pulled back you see a lot of attackers he would just stop and go come on and the referee will go and give a foul and then they go

And score straight from it the penalty they score straight from it so man city deserved to win it but it was a bit frustrating cuz I was just like and then amra bat’s mistake at the end as well it’s every goal really kind of avid a

Bit avoidable I want to talk about the second goal W uh from a goalkeeper coach’s perspective um should Ona be saving that you think he should get his hand down quicker I I think the top top level in a massive game like that he should do better I think there’s a

Couple of points that lead up to it I think man united had accepted the fate and it would have slow death on the edge of the Box casemiro gets done basically on on a one two high he’s tired his legs have gone Harland makes a clever run

Just to take the second Center half away just to buy enough space yeah but in that moment I think it’s really tough to get your hand down sometimes but the modern way to get your left foot out and get a block because to chop and get your

Left hand down is really hard but I thought he was so low in that one andone position that he has to come up to chop and that’s then why it gets his fingers he ain’t got’s he’s not good position body position he get so low that when

You’re in that low position like that you can’t chop your leg out because your studs are so planted into the ground whereas if you’re up a bit you’re on your toes a bit more and you can kick your leg out much quicker but it’s it’s kind of goalkeeping styles but they’ll

Teach you to kind of be up a little bit higher just a little bit High I don’t think as a goalkeeper and obviously you two know more than me Anana from what I’ve seen of him this season his big weakness is low shots he can’t he can’t

Get down there’s a few going even the third to an exent K one at Chelsea he’s not good I think the third even the third one I think it’s so obvious that Highland that’s Highland’s big tal isn’t it is that open up you can’t runs around

It and curls it into that far Corner that’s big and I’m just thinking you can show you’ve got to read that a little bit more um but I don’t think either way it changes the result he I overall I thought Anan had a good game especially

Two of the goal is playing with the ball at the feet and he were relatively calm you know what I mean and played and obviously Edison at the other hand yeah is uh phenomenal at it I just thought for Man United they were satting there

Waiting and as soon as he had to change the back fourway Evans coming off and um then putting lindel off in and changing and chopping and changing I thought Varan actually on the day were were excellent he cleared some unbelievable balls but the amount of pressure that

City have when you’re sat deep and they keep getting the ball rotating it they always kept making them little corner runs to open a space playing behind you the legs just went in the I felt if I was Varan walking off the pitch I’d have walked into the attackers I’d have said

To Bruno rashford Anthony gacho I’d have said look we’re never not conceding two yeah if you don’t score two we’re not going to win the game the third goal shouldn’t happen amrabat makes a mistake but I think the defense have done their side of the bargain you know we’ve kept

Them down to two at the EAD as an attack you’ve got to do more and you got to get of it more help us get up the pitch that’s what they need to do um we got to give Phil foden a bit of love quickly um in the

Form that he’s in at the minute wat is he is he a guaranteed starter for England is he is he is he nailed on for for that left hand side for England well I think he’s been man City’s standout performer all season and if you’re doing

It for the biggest and best team in England and Europe then you can’t do anymore and I think he would deserve to start it’s then you Tinker him with positions does he does he replace sacka on the right hand side yesterday he switched and scored a goal from either

Side so he probably is more flexible than a sacker Bellingham is going to play at 10 for sure if we stick to 42 31 but has has Phil foden ever come out and said his favorite position by the way has he ever come out and said no this is

Exact this is where I love to play and for England and the Southgate I want to play here because I think we’re getting to the point where he’s putting in such good performances right that he has to that has to be a question now Harry Kane

Guaranteed but then I think we have to say to Phil where do you want to play like genuinely where do you want to play in that front free I think he’s spent most of his career happily stat padding in the Man City side as doesn’t care no

But my point is like it doesn’t really matter because when you play for Man City oh I’ve got right wing I’ve got silver got de bruy or should I go in the left wing whereas you’re right for England I don’t think for man city has

To say I want to play number 10 because you you move everywhere they do man city do more structured so I personally think he should probably I mean Southgate doesn’t know how to use him so I think we’re probably better off using him off the left and I would some I would

Actually say to Saka look I might want to swap this around a little bit check I’d put him on the left because if you put him at the 10 what does that do to Bellingham um I’d put him on the left and I think he needs freedom and I think

Um he’s got to start he’s he’s got to start I mean I mean the fact that he hasn’t been a regular start for England is is is incredible because there’s so much talent in that team but he’s got to start I think if that if this carries on

To the end of the season he he yeah he he’s nailed on to start and I’d like to see him on that left hand side I think if Saka is on the right Kane up top Bellingham just in behind foden on the left we’re excited AR we but you’ve got

To do what man city do and Guardiola be happy in the game get them changed over cause other fullbacks or Wing backs whatever shape we’re playing against problems and have that fluidity and confidence to change and know and trust that both players can change and interact and do the things that’s that’s

Where I think it just needs a little bit more of um what’s the word um Freedom yeah freedom freedom what a lovely word big big Gadget Big South southgate’s got to come over and go that’s right you are unbelievable okay so sort of do what you

Want work hard thank you very much wi games that’ll do yeah simple all right love that uh right let’s talk about Liverpool then um it was it was controversial let’s put it that yeah I thought Forest did really well in this game sort of held on 99th minute Darwin

Nunez winner um but all of the talk was about the minute and a half that led up to this Darwin Nunes goal um W if you were stood on the side of that pitch and you were on that knock Forest bench and that had just happened to you would you

Have been as annoyed as what they were yeah I’d have been potentially yellow maybe red carard Reed got a red card re got a red card excuse me I always used to go and talk to the referees post game on the pitch quickly try and get a heads

Up of it because the manager always asked you when you went in what’s he said and then you’d go and see him afterwards you are so annoyed Forest played a real good game yeah and to be fair both teams wanted to win it and that last 10 or 15 minutes it were like

Ping Pong you have a chance we have a chance you have football coaches managers you’d be absolutely raging but the game went that way because the three points were more important than the point for either team so it were a great watch Forest have done everything it’s a

Corner for Forest uh kellerer flattens canate really yeah and is it a head injury yes is so you got to stop the game he’s made a right ass of it where he’s done it and I think that’s where forest’s problems lie because if they would have had the ball and that’ have

Circulated it probably gone back to their goalie and done whatever the game’s virtually done that’s the problem um and I I think you’ve got every right to question it the the hard thing is to accept in football when you’re the coach manager or a player that ultimately for that last 90 seconds

Seconds whether he’s made an ass of it or not you’ve still got your job you got to reset you’ve got to reset Liverpool get a corner yeah it’s second or third phase they had two opportunities to clear the ball they didn’t mallister gets the ball on the edge of the box and

It’s an unbelievable cross but the goal really comes about because van dikes in that moment managed to pull right onto the last man and he’s such a threat the forest Defenders half a yard behind him and the the middle of the pitch they’ve pushed up thinking they’ve got Nunes

Offside but van dijk such a threat Nunes is getting played on in the middle I think the goalie for for got to be more proactive a on the cross and B in the 99th minute you just cannot watch that ball fly You’ got to go for it go for it

Give it everything you’ve got I agree with you quickly before I want to ask your opinion on it as well um but I think at that point where mallister is looking into the box and he’s about to chip it you know that he’s not going to

Be able to whip it you know he’s not going to be able to shoot because he hasn’t got his body position not in a good enough position to be a to get that much power on the ball so the only real viable option he’s got is to do a lofty

One in there it’s at that point as a goalie a real frontf footed goalkeeper you have to start nicking a few inches a few steps and go go on then if you put it in there I’m going to come either catch it I’m going to punch it either

Way I’m going to come out my team and he didn’t he stuttered he stuttered he didn’t want to take that brave step into that little Zone did he and I think if he would have done that’s an easy punch for him the middle wanted him to come

Because they crept up and got the only van DK’s positions kept him on side The Lads in the middle had pushed and pushed to give him some work in distance but he never adjusted his position from his goal line for the cross so he’s sat in a deep position they’ve pushed up hoping

That there’s a space to be dealt with and realistically D Nunes as he’s about to head of that should have been thinking I’m G to get my punch my head punched off right now that’s what he should have looked like sort of go in the first couple of minutes cuz people

Aren’t switched not in the 9th minute it was almost like I was expecting an offside because I just thought I can’t believe he’s had so much space to get that in get that and the player who doesn’t boot it before McAllister wins it as well um crazy yeah but I think the

I think the the referee and thing’s interesting I didn’t know the rule so I I was like what’s it all about and then on the evening I read even though you don’t know the rule you would have known as a man united fan if that have happened to you that that ball should

Not just be given back to the goalkeeper there oh yeah 100% and look whether we know the rule we can’t judge ourselves as as the referees I didn’t know that rule I didn’t know that when the ball is blown if it’s outside the box it goes to

A forest player I didn’t know that drop but this is not he’s not a bloody surgeon he’s a referee in in the Premier League he should know that rule he should know every single rule apparently did it in the first half he did it the other way around to Forest again Forest

It in the first half so you know they’ve got a really good um point there but what I will say is and complete fairness because there’ll be Arsenal fans and City fans going it’s not the same as having an onside goal not given and also there’s plenty I mean udson Ado’s got it

Puts a cross in the Box kellerer gets it boots it up the pitch you know there’s still a lot of time to go so I I think that it’s a bad decision but I don’t think we should start rewriting history the fact that Liverpool still could have

Gone up the other end and scored espe defended I want to ask you about Martin Mark clattenburg role at KN Forest this is crazy by the way this is unheard of um they’ve appointed Mark clattenburg basically as their he’s he will oversee any bad refereeing decisions that have

Gone against KN so he will be the that will be talking to the Premier League talking to the pjm all that kind of stuff and then leaz in back with notam Forest but he has basically become Nottingham Forest employee to do this well save the money give us 50% and on a

Monday morning we’ll tell everybody what’s going on because it’s not hard is it refereeing is not that hard there’s a rule book and you can literally look at it and go well they got that wrong because of this this and this there’s no gray area in refereeing there is with

Subjectivity and some of the stupid decisions we see every now and again where they but but but that I don’t know what that’s all about I mean I mean he was sat next to Howard Webb in the FA Cup game between Man United and Forest

And I was like I don’t but that’s the only that’s the only thing I thought is have Forest actually done really well here thought outside the box and rather than their assistant the manager or whoever’s responsibility is to make the call and start getting upset with the

Howard web the PGM and all this stuff and causing angst is it a little deflector actually they want the referees on side and they might think Forest might start and get a few more favors and actually gone wrong it’s gone wrong he sat there with our web on

Wednesday and then they get this decision on Saturday which is unbelievable but I just think they probably thought it might longer term long a bit of a long term we’re going to talk about more of the Premier League’s action in a minute and also a bit of

Real Madrid in a minute because they scored a goal that was just disallowed it was ridiculous um quickly Liverpool are they going to win the Premier League David Watson yes or no no Mark I think the man city game is massive but I tell you what games like that if they do win

It that’s what it’s all about that’s um you didn’t answer my question um I think I think the man city game next week’s massive if they win that they’ll win the league yeah you still haven’t answered my question um right it GNA get that’s why he’s a good politician is it um I

Think Liverpool going to win the league simple as that I still think Arsenal have got a good chance I think they’re just left alone true that I think Liverpool going to win the league I think they’ve just found aity might have a chance I think they might have a

Chance yeah they might have a chance uh right did you see um r at the weekend did you see this goal that I was just alluding to then a second ago um so last kick of the game literally we’re talking last kick of the game the balls out on

The wide um The Players about to cross it in and the referee blows full-time whistle the ball goes into the box they header they score disallowed game ends as a draw I’m going to come to you again wat because if that was you on the sideline how annoyed would you have been

At I’m I’m off AR you finished you just can’t quantify it look if that ball comes in the Box he cannot not allow the second reaction yeah because there’s going to be that’s we talk about all the time about not blowing up in time and people getting hurt getting injured if

You allow the phase of play to happen rightly rightly or wrongly depending on the time that’s eluded and gone or left or whatever when that ball comes in the Box you can’t blow no because there’s going to be a consequence yeah an action some it doesn’t it’s as simple as that

He has to let that phase of play play out he has to let the phase of to a conclusion whatever it will be if it gets cleared cool if it goes the back of the neet cool but you’ve got to let it play you you can’t blow without letting

The action that’s about to happen happen that’s for sure and I think he’s blowing actually when the cross is coming in just about to kick it he’s literally just about to kick the ball and you see him put his his whistle to his lips this

This is I I just don’t get how I don’t know maybe pressure maybe it’s a pressure thing or something but I don’t see how you can make that big of a mistake when you’re refereeing a real Madrid it doesn’t matter whose game it is really if you can see that he’s about

To put the ball into the box just let it play out for another 5 Seconds he’s got to blow the whistle 5 seconds before he gets the ball in that position or let the phase happen you can’t do it when he did it because it’s going to cause the

Moment that it caused and it’s an emotive game players managers if you think you’ve won a game at that point and there’s x amount of people there and you’ve not heard the whistle or what you’re going to go Bonkers aren you well Jud Bellingham got a red card um it

Looks like it could be a three- game banam as well which is just is ridiculous and you know you do feel for him and the same side you do have to try and you know temper your temper your emotions at that moment in time try and

Keep it cool try and keep it but it’s impossible I think I think in that mate I think it’s impossible it doesn’t matter what level you’re playing at yeah if you scored that goal on a Sunday morning to win a football match in whatever level don’t care what Pub

Sunday league and the ref blows at that cross oh mate someone’s getting chased off the pit there could be a punch G there it’s getting Madness that’s why we love football it’s just really poor officiated we got to talk about West Ham uh massive week for them massive week

For David Moyes as well two wins in a week beating brenford 42 and then they’re going to be Everton 3-1 piling more pressure on them but David moyes’s kind of future was in the balance well even a week ago really for these two games now two wins should be okay to the

End of the season at least shouldn’t he yeah and I think it’s just it’s about what you want as a fan isn’t it I think that football’s changed a lot probably from when we were watching it 10 20 years ago where managers weren’t you look at a league table West Ham seventh

And you go well he’s not in danger yeah but fans these days are more opinionated and I think some West Ham fans just don’t like the style of football um but I I don’t I don’t get that I don’t I don’t get it because you’re not going to

Be seventh in the league even with Moyes or or without him he’s doing a fantastic job there they’ve won a trophy they’re still in the Europa League and you know beating brenford and Everton is not an easy thing to do and and he’s gone and got two results there I think that the

Mo’s problem is that he probably just doesn’t fit what West Ham fans want style of football whenever they lose a couple of games they’ll be back on him again and but for what the job he’s doing at West Ham has been incredible that that’s the bottom line results wise

The job he’s doing is incredible and obviously um since petta has come back in the team I think his stats are incredible aren’t they two wins coincide with him coming back in um they’ve won that won their last five in a row when he’s started so he’s he’s an influential

Player and when you’re a club like West Ham you know we talk about United missing people like Martinez and and hland well it’s even more important for teams like West Ham when you’re losing a player like that yeah the if a star player is down for a team like West Ham

It’s a massive problem isn’t it I was on talk sport last week W and um a lot of fans were ringing in about West Ham and I said listen I think you just got to be careful what you wish for really um you know that’re they’re seventh in the

League they’re winning games not necessarily the sort of prettiest of football but they’re winning games um so I think you’ve just got to be a little bit tread carefully basically West Ham fans were fuming absolutely fuming ringing in saying no it’s about style of footb it’s the way that we play it’s
