So, I went and got a bike fit today and the bike fitter scratched the hell out of my Domane SL6’s rear dropouts with her crappy bike stand (which didn’t even work).
She’s offered to pay for the repair, which is good. But I’m not sure whether to take it to the one specialist paint repair guy I’ve been recommended, or to try doing the repair myself.
Ordinarily I’d go straight to the professional, but what’s giving me pause is that he’s a long way away, and requires me to strip my whole bike, which I very much do not want to do. That is not in my skill set yet, and right now there are a few too many things going on for me to take the time and learn how.
How hard is it to fix yourself? Or are there other places in Melbourne Australia that can fix chipped paint? What have your experiences been like?

How on earth did this happen! I’m so sorry, I would be so fucking pissed. I can’t tell if it’s a surface scratch or she went through the clear coat and into the carbon. Trek has touch up paint for your paint colour that you can buy, but it doesn’t work that well. It’ll never look the same. You can try to order the touch up paint first and see if you like the results
It depends on how particular you are about how your bike looks and whether you want that spot color matched to make it go away. I had a gnarly scratch on mine and covered it with several coats of clear nail polish to provide a protective barrier. I can still see the scratches but it doesn’t matter to me and I know my frame is still protected.
The fact that she doesn’t have a thru axle bike stand or machine with a cassette to put your bike on is very concerning. I’d ask for a refund as well a repair
It is not deep, only down to primer. Perth bike shop with a number in the name insisted on replacing the bottom bracket themselves, despite please to let me do it. Warranty repair.. Scratched the paint past the primer and deep into the carbon all around the bb. Took forever to find a matching red nail varnish, luckily daughter had wide selection at home.
