This was in 2014, 6 years later and nothing has changed, nothing improved, and perspectives between drivers and cyclists have deteriorated further. It doesn't help that both sides blame the other whilst ignoring the bad apples in their own camp. Britain has got to be the worst developed nation for cycling and that is shameful. It is clear that cyclists and drivers will not share the same road amicably, and for cyclists, that is a very dangerous situation.
Councils are not going to allocate funds to put a cycling infrastructure in place whilst they are cash-strapped, it's not going to happen. Britain needs to build a safe cycling infrastructure throughout the whole isles as the benefits in the long run will far outweigh the costs in the short-term. It will be good for cyclists and it will be good for drivers, as it will keep them away from each other. Thing is, they can't (or won't) even fix potholes in the roads in this country, so a cycling infrastructure across the land that will cost hundreds of millions of pounds to put in place, can only be considered as a pipe dream. However, if the Scandinavian countries can do it, Britain should also be able to do it.
I don't think there is enough of a loud voice from cyclists themselves bringing pressure to bear on politicians. Cyclists have to want it and show that they want it. Cyclist need to become influential in bringing the right infrastructure, rules and regulations into place.
