Episode 37 – From Andalusia to Portugal: Hello! (Amsterdam to Lisbon by Brompton folding bike and train) Murcia (Spain) Friends, In this new episode, I take you with me on my crazy adventures crossing Andalusia via Cordoba and Seville to the border of Portugal. Subscribe Cordoba (Spain) Welcome to Cordoba, friends.

Come on, Cordoba, let’s move forward slowly. These little streets are beautiful. It’s crazy! I came to Cordoba when I was 18. I was running a summer camp at that time. I was with some young teenagers and it was so good. I have such good memories of it.

We slept in a youth hostel in Cordoba. And so, I said to myself ah, but I really want to come back to see again in my head those were small, quiet streets and I wasn’t wrong. It’s all mini streets. The car doesn’t fit in at all. After a 5-hour carpool trip,

Where I felt like I was dying 30 times, I rented an Airbnb for two days today and tomorrow, it’s going to be peaceful. A small studio was €30 per night. Honestly, it was cheap, we’ll be there soon. It’s so good. It still makes a small patio like in Spain. This is so cute.

I adore. There, there are tiles but we can’t see Ah, can we see if we turn on the light? Oh sorry , that’s the light. And there, in fact, there are tiles. It is too beautiful. It’s really typical. In fact, instead of taking the train exceptionally, I took a carpool.

The train was super expensive from Murcia. Honestly, I’ve tried every possibility. It was complicated. I had to take three trains and still I didn’t understand anything. It was €100. it made you arrive at 7 o’clock in the evening here. And the bus, actually the bus. And the bus, actually the bus.

What stresses me out is the bike since the bus makes lots of stops. and as a result, I don’t have to look at my luggage. so I still had the carpool and it was €30. So, before booking, I wrote to the person Oh, I have a folding bike, is that OK?

    And it was OK. And so, the person told me it’s okay, no problem except that the person didn’t know how to drive. Honestly, I squeezed my butt several times and I actually said to myself but we’re never going to get to our destination. In fact, the car had a problem;

It wasn’t going uphill well and I said to myself, damn, we’re going to stay there. 5 hours drive between Murcia and Cordoba. And suddenly, he took the sharp turns, he skimmed the sides, I said to myself, we’re going to hit the barrier.

I don’t know how we’re going to do it. I said prayers in the car. Then, we took two German girls to Granada and that’s it, we arrived in Cordoba. I said thank you God thank you God! Damn! It’s cool to have a folding bike for that

Because I only paid €30 for a 5 hour drive. So I’m really happy and I’m slowly getting closer to Seville and that’s it, it’s cool. I think I’ll go from Cordoba to Seville by train because it’s about €15. It’s €10.15. There you go, friends. In the room I rented

There are lots of cities written and it says Lisbon. Do you think this is a sign? I say it’s a sign. Bye bye chouchou! see you later Chouchou, bye bye There are lots of little streets like that. It’s so cute with little bars. I’ll show you, Los Mosquitos bar with hams is great,

It really seems like something not touristy at all. Taverna ah there it’s for breakfast I don’t know where I should go. Everything is so fucking beautiful I want to stay here. Oh damn it’s so beautiful. Roman bridge of Cordoba It is truly beautiful. Look at the lovely patio patios in the middle.

I adore. Wow! Thank you, have a nice day Friends stop at the churros there is music. Oh ! You see, these little streets are so beautiful, but you have to avoid the tourists. That’s obligatory. I just bought some small churros, well I’ve already eaten almost everything,

I’m afraid this thing will give me a stomach ache, it’s greasy. Cathedral Mosque of Cordoba Hmm I added too much sugar, damn! So after the little visit to Cordoba yesterday, Oh, it was very nice to just visit the little streets. take a leisurely stroll. Taking the time, it was so nice

And I really wanted to visit the Cathedral Mosque again. So it was €11 for entry, so I did the little visit and it was really beautiful. I stayed there and I didn’t want to leave in front of the orange tree garden, with the fountains and everything. I love this city.

I would really like to come back there with my mother because it’s really, it’s really beautiful. And what’s more, I think that in this season, after summer, there must be more tourists. But in this season (November) there are streets where there is no one. So that’s great

If you get out of the Cathedral Mosque and other tourist areas a little it’s okay. There you go, I’m tired, I went to bed late yesterday This morning, here is the program Direction Seville. I take the train from Cordoba to Seville. It takes 45 minutes

I’ll get there around 12 p.m., 11:30 a.m., 12 p.m. So, from Seville, I begin my journey by bike to Lisbon. I’m going to stay one night in Seville. I arrive at 12 p.m., I will have the whole afternoon to visit. (Seville, Spain) Friends, head to Fnac. Yes, there is Fnac here.

I have to buy a hard drive and then we’re going to go to Decathlon to buy a gas bottle. I had to leave mine at Figuères station (Catalonia). We’ll do that, and then we’ll visit, we’ll be at peace. Let’s go ! In fact, I’m leaving Decathlon to get the gas bottle.

And in fact, at Decathlon they have gas bottles, but they’re not the same valves as everyone else internationally, they’re click valves. So you buy that and suddenly it doesn’t work with your thing. Before buying, I still looked on Google and it doesn’t work with the valves

And the tips of the MSR gas bottles. I don’t understand why they do that. I don’t understand because it’s not practical. So there I saw another store that opens at 5:30 a.m. a camping thing where they have things like MSR gas bottles, standard that will be perfect.

A little light rain in Seville today, nothing too bad. I think I’m going to like this city. It’s a shame I’m only staying here today. It looks so good, it looks so good and there are lots of French people in the street. For now, it’s quite easy to cycle in Seville.

I’ve been told that it’s a very, very good cycling city. For now, it’s true. Oh but look how beautiful that is. (Gold Tower) So cute. I don’t know what it is but it’s beautiful. Cathedral of Our Lady of the See of Seville Short break. Oh but look at this tree

How beautiful it is. I don’t know what tree it is, but it’s really so magnificent. But there are plenty of them. I adore. I love this city, I love the energy of this city, I really like it, it feels Good there, the Santa Cruz district, it’s only tourist things with 4 star hotels

It It’s a bit rubbish, but there are small squares with small cafes, it’s really too romantic in my opinion. Piazza di Spagna I’m in the plaza of Spain and in fact on this square. I’m bad at history but I remembered that. They took fifteen years to build it

With more than 1000 workers per day. It’s crazy, it’s funny because, what’s more, I just met a Quebecer and a Frenchwoman and here’s the Quebecer, she came from Saint-Jérôme (Quebec) and she was on working holiday here. so we chatted, it was cool. I’m only staying today in Seville because

It’s a lot of city visits and I also wanted to cycle and well, it’s pedaling, pedaling to Lisbon. There are 17 days left to finish the trip, around twenty days we’ll say. There, I have two days to cross, to arrive at the border of Portugal,

Between Seville and the border. About two days ago. And what’s cool is that there are campsites open all year round on the way too. So there you go, that’s going to be the plan. the travel plan. But it’s crazy, it’s okay, it’s going to come together I think. I do not really know.

Then, I’m going to take Eurovélo 1. It’s a cycle path that goes back to Portugal. I was told that there are parts that will be where there is sand so I think that sometimes we will have to take the normal route.

We’ll see, I don’t know, but hey, it’s sure that it will be a little different from the Netherlands. Oh the tram is beautiful! Frankly, to get out of Seville, it’s too good, a quiet cycle path it’s going to get complicated after that, but after that it’s so good.

The church is beautiful there, look so beautiful I don’t know where we are, but there are lots of little gardens down here, lots of little gardens It’s really beautiful too, it’s a bit cloudy, so it’s not too hot. Phew, I smelled gasoline, it’s magnificent Come on, you see the little climb

Come on, go ahead Jeannette! Come on, let’s push the mushroom, Come on, think about everything you’re going to eat in France when you come back. Just go. After leaving Seville, on my way, I met Aurélien, a French cycle tourist who has chosen cycling as a way of life.

He has been cycling for many years with only a few items on his bike, a road map to find his way and a radio. I thought I would travel in a minimalist way. This significant encounter, which lasted only a few moments, made me think a lot.

How can you always get back to the basics of your journey? I expected the GPS to take me through dirt roads. because I read on a blog of people who had done it that it was a bit boring. But I think I favored the road, I didn’t favor the small dirt roads.

I’m on Google Maps for the route today it’s cows natural park Oh, it’s a natural park so, damn, if they run into the fence we’re in trouble! El Rocío (Spain) Seville – El Rocío 60 km The quote is: A healthy mind in a healthy body

And yes friends, this sentence will revolutionize your life today. Good night Archie! rest! Come on, we’re not very far from Lisbon anymore, coco, the journey is going to go well, it’s going to go well. Good morning, friends. Good morning. Oh dear, my upper back hurts. I didn’t sleep that badly.

I put in my earplugs because they were talking loudly at 1 a.m. Normal, we are in Spain and it actually rained. It’s crazy, they didn’t announce that on the radar, it rained For the road, I wasn’t sure what route to take because now, today, I’m going to Huelva, it’s roughly 60 kilometers

Huelva, that’s where the strawberries are. That’s where there are all the strawberry fields where they export 90% of their production to Europe. and I didn’t want to go into the hinterland through all these fields. So the other solution is to go via the coast. And the thing is,

Then you have to cross a bridge and you have to walk for a kilometer because the shoulder is like that. And I had read a blog of people who had done it. And ultimately, I want to do this. Don’t cross the hill.

I looked on Google Maps what it looks like and then it looks I think it’s going to be okay So we’re going to do that. We’ll see. We’ll see. Okay, we’re ready. Chouchou here we go Archie. Tip of the day Yes, what I wanted to tell you

Is that when you arrive at a campsite, make sure that your campsite is not ultimately a dog park. Because yesterday, when I arrived, in fact, all this, people, they come to walk their dogs here. So, when you pitch your tent Ben, you may have unpleasant surprises.

Or like me afterwards you have to wash your tent. This is a lesson I have learned. I’m having trouble moving forward today. I do not know why. I don’t know if it’s because we’re on the wrong side or if it’s me who’s having difficulty. So I left the campsite,

The magnificent campsite of El Rocio, and I went down the coast. . There, I will arrive in a village called Mazagòn, just before Huelva and I did well. Because in fact, you have a shoulder on the road, it’s always straight and it avoids the strawberry fields whereas if you go inland,

That’s where there are all the fruits and everything So I didn’t really want to go through that. And there, I found a quiet little bike path . It’s like home, so there we are in the pines and that’s nice. Frankly, it’s nice. I knew that before arriving at Huelva

Via the coast, I had a difficult bridge to cross. Except that while editing this video, I noticed that there was a sign prohibiting cyclists on that side. Indeed, the right side of the road turns into a highway after the Huelva bridge (Spain) I passed this shitty bridge El Rocío – Huelva 70 km

I found a cycle path. But what a horror! But it was horrible! In my head, I said to myself as long as nothing happens to me, as long as nothing happens to me You have a small lane that runs along the bridge and it works.

Honestly it’s OK, I think it’s tighter on the other side, but at least you have the barrier and you’re protected and it’s just that it’s really not pleasant. It’s really not made for bikes. And then you get there and you have a huge cycle path that takes you to Huelva.

It’s just that the connection with the other side is not there. So. This is the statue of Christopher Columbus from behind. As you saw it was the oil stuff with the oil trucks Amen. We did it Archie! we did it ! We made it chouchou ! the friends !

Okay so what I did this morning, I didn’t film that much. I took the bus in Huelva because it actually took me a 30 kilometer detour because the bridge is closed to bicycles. Okay, so I took a small bus. I paid €1.80 I think. I don’t know.

He gave me change, I didn’t understand. I put my little things on the bus with the bike to an Aljaraque because then it did that instead of doing that Except that there, we had to get out of this town and there, I finally found what is called las vias verdes, the green ways.

And so I think we are on the right path. Really, it’s a treat, I really like pushing my bike in the sand come on we have to get out of there I want to get out of there the road is over there I don’t know how I’m going to do it

Why I did that , why I did that. I’m tired of it. Damn! I haven’t found the road, so it’s just this one road I can take. because I don’t know where else to go. Ayamonte (Spain) Friends, well, I didn’t film the whole route because it was uninteresting.

I finally arrived in Ayamonte where I take the ferry to go to Portugal, it’s there, it’s there. In fact, he took me through vias verdes. But these are roads full of sand. How can you seriously pedal that? I said to myself, let’s go down the road.

The important thing is to arrive as quickly as possible. In fact, instead of doing 45 kilometers, I did 60. In the end, I should have taken the bus to here in Ayamonte. I don’t know why I cycled but I couldn’t know at the same time. There you have it,

That was the summary of the crazy exciting day. They say you have to buy tickets there, ten minutes before. So we’ll see. There’s an hour less in Portugal, so that’s it. It’s fifteen minutes of the crossing. I can’t wait It’s so good Vila Real de Santo António (Portugal) We’re in Portugal, friends.

I met Sébastien, a German cyclist on the boat. There, we are going to separate. Portugal! so good, I love it. I wish you a good trip and so cool to meet you Wow the lighthouse! Look at the friends! how beautiful it is! Here, the town is Vila Real de Santo António

When you take the ferry, well the small fishing boat and in fact there is a beautiful lighthouse It’s beautiful there. Yeah friends, we’re in Portugal! Archie, we’re in Portugal, we did it! after this shitty day. Monte Gordo (Portugal) Small, quiet campsite among the pine trees. We’re here

For our first day in Portugal, it’s so cool. I love it, and it cost me €6. Very good. It’s a little old-fashioned, but it’s perfect. We have everything we need here. I adore. So I’ll tell you a little. I arrived in Ayamonte and so I took the small boat.

I paid €3 for myself and the bike. I met Sébastien, a German cycle tourist who left Italy and is going to Lisbon. So maybe we’ll cross paths. He goes wild camping. He seemed very nice. And There you go. And then afterwards, I took the first campsite.

I didn’t go to the 20 kilometer campsite. I am at the municipal campsite of Monte Gordo. The people are very nice, they speak English, I love it, I love it, it’s perfect. I’m happy to be here, really. So now, rest easy. I just went to take a shower. It’s done.

Now we’re going to eat, we’re just going to chill. After this 70 kilometer day. Good morning, friends. A wonderful day today, it’s nice, my glasses are disgusting. Honestly, a good night. I was awake at 1 a.m. because there was a dog barking and I said to myself: Oh it’s morning

It’s time to wake up. but it was actually 1 a.m. Oh no, finally we have time to sleep again. Little morning banana, I’m missing a table. This is what I want for the next trip. A table. This banana doesn’t fit at all. A banana sandwich,

It’s so cool to wander around, wander around, it’s hard to say that word. Wandering through the small streets, without knowing where you are going. Damn, the signs here are crap! I’m going to take the national road, I’m fed up, I’m tired, I want to get to Portugal.

    5. Thank you for another lovely video. I will definitely take your advice and avoid camping in a dog park in the future!

i got the sense that Spain is not as bike friendly as some of the other places you have been. Is that correct?
      All the best, Cliff G.

    6. Merci d'avoir partagé cette jolie vidéo Aurélie. Comme toi, j'adore Cordoue !! I passed a couple of days there just before Covid in February 2020. The little patios were covered in colourful geraniums; they were very pretty ….. and the mosque ….. magnifique !!!

    8. What an exciting video, for many reasons, Spain is simply beautiful, your arrival in Portugal moved me very much, dear friend, it makes me very happy to see these locations that I want to visit and know that they can be visited by bicycle, thank you for this beautiful chapter of your Incredible trip, I don't want it to end, I'm honestly enjoying it a lot! Greetings!!!

    9. Hola Aurélie, so cool the travel continues, step after step and the finish is in sight. Will we miss anything when the journey is over? Probably yes, but we will remember the many beautiful moments, the good days, but also the difficult ones

Déjà hâte à la prochaine vidéo !! Des becs à toi et à bientôt ! 😘🤗
