England and India continue their story with another intriguing day of Test cricket. On day 3 of the 4th Test England started the day looking to wrap up the Indian tail, however Jurel was able to add crucial runs which put England under pressure in their 3rd innings.

In response England started well, with Zak Crawley getting another 50 in fluent style. However, long spells from Jadeja and Kuldeep tore through the England middle order to leave them in trouble and put India into the ascendancy.

You’re listening to the cricket Podcast hello everyone and welcome to the cricket podcast at the end of day three of the fourth test between India and England safe to say boys that this one was India’s day as they rawed back from a deficit of 150 to need just 150 to win the third the fourth test rather

I’m Jack hope I’m joined by Max Ro Brown how you doing Max hello you’re also joined by your cat as uh as it just walked across the screen and shoved its tail in Jack’s face for those who are listening and can’t see that um yeah I’m I’m disappointed Jack I’m very

Disappointed in England I’m not angry I’m disappointed okay and we’ve got Ross who’s dressed like a Soviet prison guard how are you doing Ross uh I more like jir is how how I see it um so to take that rather than the Soviet prison God thank you very much uh

Yeah I’m I’m I’m fine um not actually surprised at this situation when Max and I were talking about yesterday um we said if um Jerell could uh get them pretty much to below a 50 um deficit then India well in well in chance of doing this because England would likely

Collapse to the spin Brilliance of Ashwin and Jer so um max after your calamitous uh prediction post uh pre this series I think you’re making up I think you’re making up for uh making up for it yeah well you know it’s um it’s a bit like umpire’s call on DRS isn’t it

You get six go against you in a row and then suddenly it all goes back back in your way I’ve actually still got Max’s preseason pre- tournament pre-match pre- series that’s the word before predictions on the on the the what’s it called the noise deck that’s not what

It’s play now we we’ll play them a little bit later in the podcast we’ll play them a little bit podcast we need we need a bit of flow to get into things um just a reminder that you can find the cricket pod on Twitter Instagram Tik Tok YouTube

Facebook Spotify and apple by just searching the cricket podcast um and finding our logo so do follow us there we’re nearly up to 5,000 followers on Twitter which would be I’d like to get to 5,000 before it eventually does go belly up like that would be nice the

Podcast or Twitter well both I mean like I think I think we have got a better we’ve got we we are more likely to to to still be here in a year than Twitter I you reckon okay yeah I reckon we I reckon we’ve got a longer lifespan than

Twitter but yeah let’s let’s talk about some Cricket let’s talk about some Cricket but I I will remind people just quickly to head over to patreon patreon.com thepod from just4 pounds a month which is a great deal you get access to loads of additional stuff a Discord uh and more importantly you keep

The podcast going so a big thank you to all of the people who have already signed up as a patreon on and um a thank you to those people who are about to go to the show notes click that link and do so themselves Max do you want a

Summarize the day’s play there’s quite a lot to summarize yeah well it moved on a bit didn’t it I said it was moving day that’s what they call it and it it certainly did move but it moved in One Direction and One Direction only and that was away from England towards India

Um drw jell and C yav frustrated England to start with uh um a really well played 90 from duw derell he stuck around while um Co deep and Akash were were there offering support and then let loose towards the end a really impressive 90 from him could have been less if OE

Robinson had held on to a catch not to be and um as you said that that brought India’s deficit to below 50 um and leaving England with a sort of a bit of a a tactical quandry to ponder how do they approach things what’s their what’s their goal and I don’t think they

Answered that question in the way they batted because they looked very confused I Zack Crawley did did quite well but H him aside it was all very much ponderous um Cricket prodding getting caught on the on the crease falling to the Brilliance of Ashwin and called it yadav

As you said Ross I mean it should be said that it wasn’t you know just England being crap um cord was brilliant Ashen was brilliant they hit their lengths and lines perfectly much like we said shy Basher did in India’s first Innings just hammering on a spot India

Did exactly the same thing England had no answer and um it was a a pretty depressing slid to 145 all out with Ben folks eeking out the pain for as long as he possibly could scoring one run every over with Basher at the other end and um

That left India with a a Chase of a 192 in a tricky period to navigate before the end of play well it would have been tricky if england had you know all the ball on the pitch but they didn’t they just threw a load of full tosses at them

And before before you know it was 40 for none and England staring down the barrel of the series slipping away when uh not so long ago we were looking at the prospect of of a decider in D charot and now it’s it’s all looking very familiar that’s the shame I think like

So I I went away for the first two days of the test not like because it’s your thought you came back and it all went wrong I couldn’t deal with the cricket anymore I just planned a holiday and um went to had a mental break that’s what I did I

Left I um I didn’t really pay much attention to it and I I was quite enjoying to be honest tuning out with some of the nonsense and I’ve come back and um well no while I was away I was I you know I was keeping up with the score

And stuff and I was thinking oh this this actually looks like it could be heading towards a a a thrilling conclusion in the Himalayas um I hadn’t listened to the podcast obviously you boys called it slightly differently and got it quite right with the the jel we’ll get it quite close and then

England will collapse call um but away from things I I was I was I was excited Ross that that this was going to be heading for a serious decider and now I am a little bit disappointed um are you um well we said there was 8020 is how we

Were we said it was got 80% in England’s favor if they could get the wickets early right if they didn’t then it was going to go wrong quite quickly and the um Co DB ad have today was Immaculate Max I think you spot on in terms of that

Discipline um and it wasn’t a case of kind of trying to do funky things with the field and all this kind of stuff it was just about should we just be really good at Cricket because we are really good at Cricket and that was what kind

Of India’s game plan was and I think that um England had yeah they been a pretty great position from an England perspective and they they did throw it away and it’s becoming a little bit of a um little bit of a habit of England being in a relatively strong position um

And not taking advantage of that um and a lot of people um including Stuart broad Michael Vaughn all those guys are kind of saying well it’s kind of it’s England’s fault it’s England’s fault um again taking the agency away from just how good these Indian players are and I

Think that’s the frustrating bit for me like Ravi Ashwin is just he’s just cheat he’s a cheat code he’s an absolute cheat code and then the fact that they’ve got jadea and C deep um to back them up is yeah really quite spectacular um I would say I would say this is the

One game that England have properly thrown away like the the second test and the third test England were in the game but I wouldn’t say whever actually the favorites to win it like there’s no way you can dispute at the end of yesterday I think even if even if as you you two

Said there was still a pathway for India to get well back into the game there’s no way you can dispute that England were winning the match at the end of yesterday and there’s no way you can dispute that India winning the match at the end of the day like it’s a it’s

Quite a big reversal it happen it happens a lot in test Cricket that you know thing or in Cricket in general to be honest that that things slide quite quickly from a position of advantage to one for one team to a position of advantage for the other team but um if

You’re if you’re looking at you England England actually chucking away a winning position I think this is the first time in the series and it it wasn’t great and how do we want to talk through this this match this day um we can we can do the

Collapse that was the the big story or we can start earlier Max and talk about J Jerel or we can end and do it in Reverse chronological order so I’m going to give you the first proper talking point here and and you can take us wherever you want we’re big fans of

Recency bias aren’t we on this pod so why don’t we Why Don’t We Go reverse chronological and start by um hammering hammering England for what they were doing in the last uh in the last half an hour of the day the most complicated way to tell this story we’re gonna tell it in

Reverse do it in order then start with eat your heart out here we go PP fiction this we’re actually gonna start in the 30th over of England’s Innings um no no let’s start at the beginning uh Max jel the the story I think in in in a lot

Of the England papers and the story for a lot of people who have watched the cricket today will be England’s collapse but like you have to say it’s a great Innings from Jerel to get 90 there and to take England uh England India from a

Position of what 177 for7 to 307 for 10 virtually single-handedly like that’s um that that has probably done more to lose England this test than anything else I would say yeah I mean England’s collapsed sort of is kind of irrelevant without the Drew derell Innings isn’t it

Because I mean if england are 145 all out and Drew derell hasn’t done what he’s done England has still got a lead of 230 240 and then you’re looking well I mean even with the star IND you got it’s still a long way to go with you

Assuming the pitch it plays you know plays hard tomorrow and it’s It’s tricky to bat who knows I don’t even know this pitch anymore it’s so confusing one moment is fine then it isn’t it’s fine again I don’t know um but I mean yeah it’s said without Drew Dell’s Innings

That none of this really is as important so it’s it’s like kind of the key turning point of the match isn’t it what what Drew derell did it started that that slide towards India and it was um a real demonstration of batting with the lower order it was you can contrast it

Quite nicely with Ben folks who you know was happy to take a single and let let Shad Basher see two balls out and that was going fine like they didn’t look there weren’t really any any big concerns about losing the Wicket but it only takes one ball one bit of

Brilliance from from Ashwin or or whatever it is and then suddenly all that work you’ve done turns out you scored nine runs and it wasn’t really worth it ju derell showed the way forward with sort of being able to you know pick the gaps hit the sixes you

Know beat beat the fielders was on the boundary Ben Stokes challenged him play well the sweep shot basically hasn’t been played in this match because of the way the pitch has behaved then Stokes left the area open challenging to it he was up to the challenge and and more um

As well as being solid in defense and um you know credit as well to cordi bakash for sticking around with him um the way they did but yeah Drew derell showed real um I mean it’s you know it’s always a a classic um clle stuff but you know

He showed real maturity didn’t he um for a man who was experienced in test Cricket he he had an older head on his shoulders or whatever but I mean it’s it’s true he played he played really well he played the situation beautifully it was really impressive um Ross it’s G to be quite

The conundrum for India isn’t it when they have all of their Wicket Keepers available K raal rishard Punt and Jerell based on what we’ve seen from jell so far um oh of course we don’t know how pant will recover maybe pamp will come back as a as a batsman but like you know

It is it should should be emphasized this guy’s 23 he’s playing in his second test match and he’s batting with guys who really aren’t recognized batsman at all in a almost a hopeless situation and has has pulled out a proper Innings here yeah I think it’s spectacular I think um

Having an embarrassment of riches is no bad thing right and um you can only do what you can do and try and take your opportunity and um I think in the chat people were highlighting that I am a ristan Royals fan um I’m also English so

Uh it’s a it’s a bit of a tough one um because seeing people like J W and jelle kind of bat like this is just spectacular um and it is mightily impressive and and Max you got to say about kind of playing the situation really really well I think that is the

Bit for me of getting um yeah just a wise head on those young shoulders and I think that England missed a trick or two as well we we talked about oie Robinson dropping that catch um when you have Di your hair peroxide blonde you better take every catch that comes your way um

And it was he highlighted the um yeah it was a game-changing moment um but that is the bit that England keep coming up against this India side that India are so so good that you have to take every single chance that kind of comes your way otherwise you leave the door open

Just a little bit they will come through that door and that is what’s happened again today and those sliding door moments um yeah Slim Shady unfortunately is going to you cost us cost England the position in this game I think they’re more like you guys seen The Shining yeah

Um I think they’re more like Jack Nicholson with the the ax yeah yeah that’s I don’t think it’s a sliding door moment like he would have locked the door they run away they’ve locked the door you’ve got Jerel with an axe is that what I saying OE Robinson is the

Door in this scenario and okay the problem is that OE Rob wasn’t like a a reinforced fire door yeah and uh uh I don’t know how the peroxide hair comes into this analogy but it does you’ll have to you’ll have a new polished door handle yeah yeah it

Was that was a bit like it was a newly polished door handle but it’s still a door um like you needed in a real door and that’s like I don’t know it’s um I feel like it’s harsh a little bit to to to blame solely Robinson

Yeah I wasn’t really talking about you I I saw I saw somebody tweet that um OE Robinson has cost England this match and it’s like well that’s he did also score a really good Bing the bit where he he put England in a really good position there AR generally get your number nine

Scoring a 50 while your number four is out there trying to you know score in 100 so but um look it is a crucial job and it’s not it’s not a series where we’ve seen loads of drops I think probably because of the the pitch generally being relatively low and

They’re not being that many chances but if you were going to look at the two big ones that have gone down um that Robinson one big for for England in this one and then obviously a Patel drops Bly Pope and that basically changes the first test so I don’t know catches with

Matches has anyone ever said that before on this podcast yeah I think I can catch all I I yeah um we take a little break then we’ll get to the England collapse because there’s um there’s lots St talk about yeah oh before we do U just a

Reminder if you’re on YouTube do click like and do click subscribe we’ve got a nice 515 people viewing right now um which is is good and reflective of the kind of day that India had you might say but uh it would be good if people stick

Around we do we if you’re new to the podcast we do cover pretty much all the cricket so after this we we’re only we’re less than a month away from the IPL now and we’ll be doing two or three shows a week for the whole IPL then

Straight after the IPL we’ve got the T20 World Cup so you want to hang around for all of that um because we’ll be covering it all and it should be a lot of fun or extremely exhausting or both don’t know we don’t know yet do we uh we’ll be back in a

Second you’re listening the tricket Podcast Welcome back to the cricket podcast we’re talking England v India India looked like they’re on their way to a 3-1 series when they need about 150 with 10 wickets in hand to pull that off and the reason for that is a pretty cataclysmic England collapse um they I

Believe if I get my numbers right here were 110 for three and then lost their last seven wickets for 35 runs the question Ross is who do England blame they they blamed basball in the last match they blamed root in the last match they’ve been trying to blame

DRS where do we turn where do England turn who’s who’s who’s against the wall who’s against the wall um sometimes you just come up against a force that is just better than you right and the force of nature that was Ravi Ashwin and Co deep was pretty spectacular how ever

There is some blame to be a portion I think it’s probably fair for a moment I thought you’re going to blame genetics which would have been yeah um well I want to start with blaming olly Pope because Max is a massive sorry fan and the guy the guy

The guy literally can’t play cricket in the first kind of five balls that he plays in Innings it’s absolutely incredible um but yeah you bag a pair in in a test match and you’re you’re obviously going to be hounded the guy did hit nearly a double century to win

England a test match not not going of three tests ago so uh it’s one of those things um the key part for me is the key moments Johnny Baro who we’ve been a big fan of Johnny bow on the show but um Jack you tweeted earlier that that

Johnny bow has not played 99 tests he’s played one test 99 times the shame warn quip around kind of Monte panar um and on here the first ball of the session where he’s on 30 runs and I mean I’ve seen a we we we have a cricket team but

I don’t like Cricket Club based in London who we’re looking for players by the way so if you do want to come and play cricket with us let us know um but we’ve seen that happened in the cricket we play and Johnny BTO to do that first

Ball in such a crucial moment I was head in the hands just like for goodness sake it’s happened again and I think he just had a heavy tea I don’t I mean like it was postand I I think um as as moments go it is it’s

I be those innings in general is really weird because he does like a lot of stuff that’s really good extremely high quality I mean like he’s scoring really really fluently on a pitch that that was difficult and was difficult for the Batters at the other end like he he’s

Looking good but then in amongst the good bits there’s sort of passages of absolute you know brain dead Behavior like I don’t know if you remember this this might have been Ross before you even woke up I think it was I think it was probably was I think it was about

Quarter past eight and uh he was facing Jer and left one that was was maybe an inch away from hitting the stamps and it like obviously turns out to be a perfectly acceptable League two types of League Jack and then but the next three balls all in the same area he plays a

Defensive shot at all three of them and it’s like well what’s your what’s your actual I this is what I’m getting it here what’s his actual plan for for playing this cricket and that’s what prompted me to say play play the same test 99 times wasn’t actually him

Getting out it was stuff like that I mean like I I think we’ve seen him out in this series leaving a jadea ball that that went straight on so like you know is that not in your your brain at any point we’ve seen multiple balls in this

In this match sort of scoot along the floor um or or slide straight on is that not registering obviously it is to some extent because you play a defensive shot then three balls after that but like you the leave to to begin that sequence of four balls is is is baffling and then

The way the way he was out I mean it’s it’s really bad Max like I know there’s not much more you can say about it is there it’s just horrific people are going to be a say oh Johnny bestto is on 30 that’s the problem the guy’s in like L got a start

That’s people you get out for a first baller you deci you know what unlucky olpe like kind of happens like the decision was much of a muches right from the Umpire like if it was out but bestto is in like and this is the this is the

Real problem I have with it yeah and it’s like you know at that point as well he’s the last recognized batter it’s him it’s him and folks and you know we all know how folks is going to bat in this scenario folks isn’t gonna suddenly teae

Off and get England the extra 50 runs or 60 runs that they need like beo has to be aware that that him and folks together are going to have to build a partnership and folks will be able to hold up an end he’s got a very sound defensive technique but but the runs

Have got to come from somewhere yeah he’s he’s a neighor is he folks is the even crazier thing about it is that the guy is standing in a helmet with his pads on at like an extra short cover specifically for be sto doing something that stupid it’s he might as well be say

Holding a sign saying know we we genuinely think you’re this dumb and best though or or hit it here to be out you know kind of like walking through the woods and there’s a net on the floor and there’s like some cheese in it there free cheese but they haven’t bothered to

Put the leaves down on top of the net they’ve just been like he’s they’ll just walk into anyway he loves cheese it is um oh yeah like I mean obviously he’s probably done enough to keep his place for his H 100th test and it’s not best though isn’t the root of

The the collapse as well he actually you know 30 runs in those circumstances is probably decent but the way you are out is um or the way he is out rather he’s not actually on this this podcast the way he is out is um pretty

Bonkers though is that is that is that I don’t know I’m not really I’m not really blaming best though I think Ross is Ross has hit the nail on the head when he says that coold deep and so you know England are going along quite well

Aren’t they I think was a 24th over so the you after 24 overs they run about a 100 for three which is is is a a decent progress you’ve got Crawley batting well and you’ve got beo baying well then C deep comes into the attack and C deep

Bowls 15 overs on the bounce 22 for four that’s what changes the game c deep was unplayable he he bowled brilliantly and we’ll get on to that but if you’re looking at it from an England batting point of view there are a couple of you

Know that is a that is a big moment and then Stokes playing forward back is getting nutmegged yeah I mean that’s a really weird dismissal as well I me he’s basically a half volley and you’d think you’d think the way that Stokes wants England to play he’d be thinking about

Hitting that you know into the Bay of Bengal but he didn’t he just mov his leg back the pitch is living well yeah look he has been out to three Grabbers in the series so I I get that he’s maybe a little bit overly cautious but that that

Was extremely cautious um and then there was the passage of play after those two are out where um and again it’s not folks’s fault like folks has to bat with the limitations that folks has like folks isn’t a T20 specialist like there there’s a limited range of shots that

Ben folks has but 17 off 76 it’s not really going anywhere is it it’s like a it’s like one of those kind of esoteric short stories written by American Authors in the 50s about a a Suburban couple and you read it and you you get to the end and you’re like I’m

Sure this is telling me something but John updikes Run Rabbit this is what I’m thinking of that’s not a short story it’s about 300 Pages you read it it’s about a man who thinks about leaving his wife goes to a diner has a cheeseburger then comes back and is sort of like not

Really sure about whether he’s made the right decision 300 pages that I’ve summarized it in a nutshell there and I’m already bored that’s that’s she SP 30 seconds I’m already bored there’s probably something I’m supposed to take away from that but it’s going over my

Head and I felt the same a little bit the same about Ben folks’s in cheeseburgers are deeply philosophical in in Ben folks’s mind I’m sure there was an end goal here but you know you look at it 17 of 76 No Boundaries a strike

22 if he and shash had batted for a 100 overs could have got another 100 runs on the board so there’s all of that um Ben Ducket needs to put the defensive shot away um don’t that very often also we got to give some credit to

Zack Crawley Zack Crawley is now not a right he’s not he’s not a talking point now before it was it was a joke right he was an absolute joke it was just like this guy is in this team and they’re sending him out to bat number one every

Single test match just to see how many balls he can last it’s like some sick joke and now it’s just like yeah he pretty much scores half century nearly well between 40 and 60 all the time pretty much at 100 strike rate like it is mental that he’s just turned into

That a fantastic player for England um but yeah I think it’s more the Brilliance of the Indian team today rather than the rather than the yeah the shitness of the England team I I do I mean I I I AG I agree with that but I do

Think a lot of what I just said about the various ways in when PS were out also stands like I don’t I I think they could have got 200 here the game plan the game plan cannot be we’re going to try and defend our way to the 250 run

Lead against Ravi Ashwin and that just can’t be the thing the guy is going to get you out the guy’s got a box of tricks that that if you have fallen down to thousands and thousands of times he’s got the most wickets against England right in his career like it’s not a

Surprise that he’s bowling at one end you’re looking at this on yeah you’re looking at this on too small a scale I think that’s the problem you need to look at the bigger picture here of what England are trying to do right this series they’re probably going to lose

Right that that doesn’t matter but there’s a there’s a wider conversation and there’s more of a war going on now in the English media about the approach to Cricket and what they’ve done is they’ve sacrificed this test match for a greater good and that greater good is

Showing Jonathan agu and Michael VOR if they play traditional test Cricket in the third innings in India they’ll be all out for 145 and it’s a terrible idea and actually we should go back to trying to hit everything for six and it would have been fine that’s what it is can we address

Michael vaugh maybe directly yeah um on the DRS lunacy why why are we still right first of all first of all I don’t want this to become a DRS pod like there we’re not doing that second of all the only reason this is a debate is because of the

Twitter algorithm that’s my my argument on this like I think if you ask Cricket fans even English Cricket fans who you know have seen seen what they’ve seen I reckon 1% of the population thinks there’s anything wrong with DRS or that it’s perhaps broken in any way I reckon

It’s like a really small number of people everyone else is like well they use this system at every tennis tournament to see where the ball bounced and nobody complains there and um you know you’d think it would have come up a few times if it was if it was it was

Clearly clearly ban jacked you know like so I think from that point of view I think most people know that DRS works but the 1% of people who don’t get amped up by the Twitter algorithm because all the 99% of people who know that DRS does work see Michael vaugh say something

Ridiculous and then have to respond to it it’s it’s a it’s an engagement generating machine it’s it’s the Twitter Twitter algorithm complex that’s what and of course there’s the fact that if you think DRS is working you’re probably not going to Tweet about it yes and if you’re a conspiracy theorist you’re

Spouting all sorts of nonsense on the internet because that’s what you do I can think of at least one Cricket Twitter account that will tweet every time DRS is right but it’s very boring to do that it’s it’s it’s extremely it’s extremely boring to point out that the

Technology that is designed to see where the ball bounced with 30 slow-mo cameras is is working out where the ball bounced um everyone everyone can seeff for Joe r or whatever but it it bounced in line like there’s no there’s no actual debate there is there

There was there was a bit where I think one of the bits on BBC was just like well the technolog is telling us it’s out so it’s out no it’s just out it’s not the technology telling us out it’s the rules of the game that is that that

Is the bit the actual human element to it is the bit of the reason why it’s out the technology is not just going yep that one it’s just it’s not some like it has Tey yeah mind of its own yeah is this how it starts take Hawkeye It Go sentient Hawkeye

Wanted to see Ravi ashon take his 55th Wicket so much that it it it changed the ball tracking fight anyway that’s enough I know I know the um the COO of hawkey maybe we should get him on the podcast maybe we should do that maybe we get on

And come and defend your technology that’s that’s what next thing you know tomorrow on GB news or whatever the the I was about to say offensive word there the idiotic um TV channel maybe that’s what they’ll have they’ll have truthers on tomorrow to settle this great debate yeah um so that’s DRS

Done what did Co deep do so well Max no um I think they mention quite mentioned it quite a bit on comms and I think it was one of the few times that actually they they were quite perceptive and picked something up and talked about it it um and didn’t just chat nonsense

Um about how Joel Wilson’s done an excellent job as the third umpire looking at some pictures uh he he bowled with real Pace didn’t he like aside from the control and attacking the stumps and getting real revs on the ball he Bal with Pace he really pushed it through

And that made it so much more difficult for England’s batters to deal with like they you always talk about you when there’s turn but it’s slow you have time to adjust like you can you know you can try and read it but also if it does do

Something a little bit expected keeps a little bit low like it has done in this test match you can often just about adjust and get away with it but C was putting that extra Pace on it meaning that it was a lot more difficult to do

That and if you were slightly off you were in trouble and um I think that’s that’s what we saw with Zack Crawley in particular like he s of played down the wrong wrong line in that one probably a bit hurried by it skipped through and um

And just in general that that he made things made life difficult for England’s batters and you know what not the first time and it won’t be the last time that cool deep has returns to be um England’s Nemesis I thought so I think that’s all right I thought as well that him and

Like J only gets one Wicket but he was bowling in tandem with C deep for the for a lot of the sort of big collapse um that that England went through I thought the pair of them did really well by bowling shorter than you normally would

If you were a th the stumps are still in play well the stumps are still in play but also because of that even if the stumps weren’t in play it just meant that if you if you if you aimed a little bit back of a length to hit right at the

Top of the stumps or or even get the ball to just go over the stumps if you dragged it too short the Batters couldn’t really play cross batted shots because the possibility of a a shooter was was on their mind and they had to that you know they basically

Couldn’t hit it for four yeah and that me much more dangerous to over pitch on this wicket than it is to drop sh yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah and I thought that um basically I thought they were just a bit too good for England England

Couldn’t come up with a plan to to do anything about it um Ross ashin as well you mentioned that he bowled well he bowled very well with the new ball then he cleaned up the tail um have you got anything new to say about ashin or not

Um there’s a lot in the chat of saying why did Jimmy Anderson not get given the new ball um when England were bowling tonight um and England were kind of expecting Basher Harley to channel their inner their inner Ashwin and Jer and C deep um and it just didn’t work out that

Way so I think that yeah there’s nothing more to add on Ashwin we know he’s brilliant we know he’s brilliant against England we know he’s a spectacular spin bowler um and I think when it comes to England’s hope in the uh in tomorrow’s game playay um that’s where we probably

Should focus this last bit of the podcast on um because England are completely up against it but Max we’ve we’ve called things relatively right on this show um so far this week um what do you think is going to happen Mystic Max I I’ll I’ll wrap it up or maybe they

Might lose four or five but I think it’ll be fairly fairly comfortable for them um they’ll probably get it done before I think what will happen is they’ll be pretty much home and dry or like well ahead of the game by the time the ball starts doing some funky um

And then England will get a few wickets like well maybe there’s an outside chance of a ridiculous collapse and then like sarra will come in it’ll be fine and they’ll win by well yeah either like five or six wickets and it’ll be pretty comfortable on the end but we’ll be

Thinking oh if only England had that extra 30 runs or if only England had kept it a bit tighter last night just to give the narrative a bit of play there that’s my that’s my quite specific guess I think England need needed 250 Partnerships worth of chances if that

Makes sense so I basically I’m saying they needed 240 like the the pitch has gone it’s like a roller coaster you get long periods where nothing’s happening PO is building yeah yeah you’re clicking up and then there’s sort of 15 overs where it’s completely unplayable like the bowlers just hit a rhythm and

They’re hitting that patch of the the the Wicket and it’s curtains for the Batters and I think England needed two or three cycles of that or probably a third cycle of that to win this match and I reckon that’s 240 overs and I think get one or two cycles and the it

Didn’t help did it in seven overs this evening they bought seven full tosses counted them have boundary it’s pretty bad that’s well after we just talked about coldi bowling shortened and a bowling short and like saying if if you miss you’ve got to miss short to then

Miss full seven times and that that doesn’t include the half Wes because there were two or three of them in there as well um it’s yeah and I think this this goes down to workload as well right heartley and shashir they’re not to blame but in kind of this scenario like ultimately they’ve

Bowled but again they’ve bowled just a bit knackered like Lally coming back into that not putting their feet up all that kind of stuff but unfortunately it kind of happens but I do I do think they should have gone with um Jimmy or or Robinson I mean that they’re both they

Can both keep it tight as seam Bowlers and if you’re going to get anything out your seam Bowlers that was probably maybe a bit in the morning but yeah in the first Innings right sck him off he sck him off in the firsts I mean

I can see the tactics right I mean I think it’s sort of in line with what Jack was saying about the cycles of the pitch doing stuff it was just kind of holding patterns until things started happening maybe try and take a bit of the Shine off the ball to make it easier

To bow with that’s why they like thought oh Joe rot can come and B him over and try and keep it tight but it just seemed a bit bit strange to me I don’t know why you wouldn’t have been able to achieve this same effect with Anderson or or

Robinson because they’re both very good at exactly that as as seam Bowlers so uh I was surprised by that I thought it was a bit weird um right executed poorly anyway we’re gonna take a really quick break then we’re gonna have a very short part three where we talk about the pitch

Because I think it is quite interesting and that will be it if you’ve got any questions and we didn’t have any on Twitter today so stick them in the chat and Ross will keep an eye on them uh and we’ll wrap this podcast up in about 10 minutes you’re listening to the criet Podcast hello everyone and welcome back to the cricket podcast um Ross the pitch what are your thoughts on it like it’s it’s a talking point but I think in the most fun way like I I don’t think this is a bad pitch I wish all Cricket pitchers would just Carnage like this um

Yeah I think uh I don’t actually think it’s that bad of a pitch honest I think it’s actually been it’s actually created some really enthralling cricket and that’s what you want the the Test match is rumbling on um and I think it’s actually made things far more

Entertaining um than just kind of an absolute flat one like you’d get in Pakistan or something along those lines um I don’t think it’s a kind of a disgrace I don’t think India have doctored the pitch and all this kind of stuff I just think it’s yeah it is what

It is right um I like to Ma you were saying yesterday it takes some of the agency away from the players um sometimes I quite like that sometimes I quite like the the Carnage that is ensuing on it um would I want to see every single test match played on this

Pitch though probably not but one once in a while I think these kind of things are just quite entertaining um and it’s made for what I think has been quite a balanced test match um and ultimately the best team is going to win not because of the pitch but because of

Their ability um is my view uh it’s a bit like like the opening golf isn’t it Max like sometimes it looks very easy and then it gets windy and then it looks very hard yeah yeah is a bit it is a bit like that but it’s um I mean I said I

Had gave my thoughts yesterday and I don’t think they’ve changed really I think it’s it’s a bit it’s it’s annoying sort of the way that like it has resulted in quite a good game in the end like this is a really game of cricket um and the pitch has obviously played a

Part in that but I think on top of what I said yesterday about you know sort of being just kind of a bit random and you know like there’s not a lot you can do about it at times and that’s a bit frustrating the other thing that I don’t

Like about it is it’s basically taken a whole way a whole like method of scoring runs out of the game like you can’t play a sweep shot or a crossbed shot to full balls because you will probably be out um I don’t really like that very much

Iting for me it well I mean it it’s like it’s interesting that it makes it more difficult to B but I don’t think like it’s good to have a pitch where it basically just completely removes one facet of of the game from play that that’s not not great for me but it has

Resulted in a really good game of cricket so you know we shouldn’t complain too well it could have been it it’s a whole lot better than it looked like it was going to be like it’s one of the most bizarre looking Cricket pitches on day one I’ve ever seen um but it’s

It’s held up pretty well compared to what it looked like so we can’t complain too much because like I say we’ve got a really good game of cricket out of it it’s going into four and there’s still really there’s two results on the table just about so yeah I guess the it’s not

So bad the spider cam shots of it make it look like a dried up River Basin in the rift don’t it’s it’s massive great big cracks uh Ross I think we’ve got a couple of questions in um and then we’ll wrap up a lot of Lon says can a 23 over

Spell of bouncers from Stokes save England tomorrow there’s rumors he might Bowl will it be cometh the hour cometh The Stokes um it would be such a weird thing to see Stokes risk another injury just to try and do this and a bit where um they’ve clearly chosen that the spin option is

The one to go with so I think that’d be very very surprising um but do you remember um was it Cricket 2003 or something along those one of the games on the PlayStation where you could set it to playing on a green top and you’d

Bowl with like R and nid as Sussex and you’d literally Bowl it pretty much into your feet and then the second about the second boun the batsman just couldn’t hit it maybe on this pitch that’s what it’s going to end up with you’re going to get the the Double Dipper um which

Double Dipper yeah which should be quite interesting but unlikely yeah i’ I’d like to see England at least try a spell from seene Bowling to see whether they can get ball to shoot along the floor basically that was the opportunity for that was this evening that that was I

Think that I think that was bit like they knew they only had like kind of what less than 10 overs to bowl or whatever it was like give Robinson give and to otherwise why are they in the team yeah Max last question for you regista at what point will the blame be

On the England middle order and the lack of runs throughout the series I to I think that England’s middle order have probably done better than we would have expected in in the series in general I mean uh Stokes has Stokes has had a few moments Ben folks

Has had some some important runs Johnny BTO is probably the one where you you’re mostly disappointed like he got he got that 30 today and he’s he’s had the odd Innings where he’s he’s looked like doing something was 38 in the first Innings but he’s he’s probably the one

That’s disappointed the most I suppose now that Joe Root’s got his 100 but I I don’t think they’ve performed particularly poorly when you compare it to how we think things might have gone um I think they you know they’re coming they are still coming up against some of

The best Bowlers in the world particularly in these conditions so you do you do have to just at some at some point acknowledge that things can be just a little bit too difficult for them at times I I think um as well I go go on

You say you say I I also think that there’s a lot of people in kind of the chat in the last few days and on Twitter say that England are losing to kind of a bunch of like a bunch of young people from India like they they’re kind of

Saying well this is like a C team or a D team and you’re just like this idot team are brilliant like regardless of who they put in and I think the the question for me is more actually the opinion on the likes of K rahall the

Likes of shre Etc and actually the gulf between them and a jel or them and safras actually is it’s more but it’s in the other direction from what you think yeah it’s that part it’s not that these guys are Miles and Miles Away right from from the it’s just that actually Shire

Is not as good as some of the media will tell you he actually is compared to the likes of jel compared to the likes of the others um and I just think that that that’s frustrating for me that narrative because yeah England are the worst team

In India regardless of kind of what they put out um in these conditions for sure yeah I think um we talked about a lot with DJ last week didn’t we like this the idea this is an India B team is Off the Mark um without without bura it’s

Significantly worse than with bura I think you’re seeing a significantly closer test match than the last two but this should have been quite inting if you actually want to look across the series The the big points of difference burra one and then probably jce W two

And um you know if you want to compare England’s middle order to the Indian middle order it’s it’s not that far off in in you know overall run scored I don’t think uh well no it is but it’s not car we’ll carry coule exactly yeah right we’re going to wrap up the P

    1. I can easily foresee India sliding to a defeat in 2 sessions of play all out for 160. It could go either way. Also, what on earth does Ross have sitting on his head?

    2. For me its 60 40 india , comparing to the hyderbad pitch , this pitch is even worse but , its about one innings for india and one session for england. India will want one batsman to go berserk

    3. Foakes should have gone agressive and scored 20-30 with boundaries when it was already 8 down. Could have made England lead to 220-30
Also why is ollie even there except chucking pies.

    4. As great a cricketer Ben Stokes is he is also an equally bad sport.. blaming pitches, umpires calls, technology but not giving credit to the oposition

    5. I think England should stick to their strength i.e Fast bowling , with Robinson , Stokes and anderson they can take early wickets in morning ,then with some spinners like root and hartly .. they can fight back .

    6. Hopefully ENG's second innings (barring Crawley, 85 runs total by 10 batsmen !) will put a stop – at least temporarily – to self-praising chatter about the BazBall "attitude" !
Save that for weaker sides like WI/PAK/IRE !

    7. U can justify urself by that way… England through it away… But India hv also done the same… India have a very inexperienced lineup…. That was ur golden opportunity and u through it away… I just want to say that…

    8. I think the game is still in the balance. This pitch is a proverbial minefield and if some early wickets fall, England could make a comeback in the match. It will come down to India's top order to hold the line and not get pressured !!

    9. Michael complaining about DRS issue was like Ben stoke complaining about umpire's call when in many occasions evenat yesterday's innings safed his wicket, and I'm thinking how awkward was that for Ben to complaint 🤣 btw rip Bazzball official Graveyard 🪦 in India 🙏💐🗿
