RIVERFRONT PARKRUN! Join me as I provide an in-depth review of the Riverfront parkrun experience and the hardstanding, very flat course it has to offer. Running alongside the River Usk and surrounding buildings! It is a relatively busy one, however, with very wide paths you don’t have any issues with overtaking, therefore, it is a great one for a PB! This is the 17th parkrun I have recorded of which you can find a playlist of them on my channel!
I will be doing parkruns all over the UK and rest of the world! Every Saturday I take part in a 5K run trying my hardest to get under 20 mins. Melksham parkrun is a parkrun to in the North of Melksham, near Bath, UK. It is located at Kind George V Park and is a great run to tick off the “M” on the alphabeteer challenge. Let me know if you have ever completed the course. Hope you enjoy the video.

How’s it going today is Saturday which means that it is park run day and today we are off to Riverfront Park run so Riverfront Park run is located in the center of Newport along the river usk and it is all on hardstanding tarmac I don’t believe there is any winter course
Of this I think it’s just one simple course which you can do all year around due to it being on hardstanding with no risk of flooding maybe the risk of an event going on on the day but apart from that it should be on most weeks is a
Relatively busy course you do get quite a lot of people turning up to this one however because the paths are so wide you don’t really notice any issues with overtaking Etc and you’re not going to collide with any of the public and things like that and also as it is all
On hard standing all you need is Road shoes you don’t need any trail shoes for this run at all cuz you’re not going to slip over anywhere there’s no mud to slip over on which is always nice and with it being really really flat course
As well this one is perfect for a PB I feel like recently all the ones that we’ve done have been really hilly so this is should be a nice one and hopefully we might be able to get one of our best times and get onto that leaderboard and now before we take a
Look at the course if you don’t know what a part Run is it is essentially a 5K run ran by a group of volunteers it is timed and Marshal and then once you get to the end you get your finishing token which gives you your official time
And official position and it is all completely free now let’s take a look at the summary of the course it is a simple one it is just one lap there and back and as you can see in that top left hand corner it is really flat with an
Elevation gain of 5 m and the max elevation of 11 M so youd barely going up any Hills whatsoever so this is perfect for a PB and now let’s take a look at the course in a bit more detail so you’re going to start off at the riverfront theater make your way South
Past the University of South Wales then you’re going to keep coming south even further past the George Street Bridge you go underneath that past Newport student Village turn right towards usway then you make your way back up to the next to the river RK then you’re going
To keep making your way down until you get to the city Bridge you go underneath the city brid Bridge as well keep coming around towards the discount tire store you do a U-turn and then you follow the exact same route that you just followed all the way back but make sure to keep
On the left hand side always because otherwise on the way back you’re going to run into other Runners so be wary of that and there also a couple of roundabouts as well so like I said go as long as you go around the roundabout on that left hand side you’re not going to
Run into any of the other Runners as long as you’ve done that all correctly you’ll end up in the exact same place as you started so this one is a really hard one to get lost unless you’re at the front and you end up running even
Further than you need to so that’s the course a really nice and easy one and hopefully the records will reflect this and let’s have a look now at the riverfront park run record so the fastest male was Abed or Abed hel bran I’m not too sure how that name is
Pronounced I apologize for that with a time there of 15 minutes and 28 seconds and the fastest female is Olivia Sim I believe and that’s a time of 16 minutes and 49 seconds both unbelievably fast times and there’s an average number of Runners is 257 so quite a few Runners
With an average time of 29 minutes and 57 so quicker than last week’s one in Mam and now my stats so after completing mam last week we’ve moved up to 17 part runs but the fastest three all still remain the same with chipping soy being 2323 eam 2301 and summer Del Filan with
A time at 2232 and my best finish position still hasn’t changed of fourth which was at zalone jar in Poland and now let’s get into the run then so 3 2 1 we are off and hopefully we’ll have a decent start as you can see there’s quite a few
People on that right and left hand side all cutting in towards the center so it is fairly busy but then you’ve also got quite a lot of space as well because the path is really big here so we’re heading our way now towards the university and towards that first Bridge which you will
See on the left hand side the parking is literally just over on the right hand side along with the bus station as well and as you can see it’s quite a dull day today at least it’s not raining so that’s not going to slow us down at all
But it’s not that hot it’s just perfect temperature really and there’s no wind at all coming down the river which is perfect we’re going to turn left now and as you can see on the left hand side that’s where the river Rus gives quite decent views of the other side as well
And then we’re going to turn right and then we’re just going to keep going straight now for ages down the side of the river RK and as you can see is well all of the ground is on hard standing so like I said earlier only need Road shoes and also as you saw at the start as well we’ll be behind someone with the buggy so buggies are allowed however dogs are
Prohibited from this park run now we’re going to make our way towards the university building so just past the bridge on the left hand side now there you can see it as you can see it’s maybe starting to rain a little bit a small bit of a drizzle now but it’s not
Slowing us down not slowing anyone else down either but the busy start has now opened up everyon really so you can basically run wherever you like as long as you keep going straight and you follow that person in front of You as you can see not much has changed the views ever are slightly different and you’ve now got George Street Bridge there ahead of us so we’re just heading towards that we’re going to head our way under that and then we’re going to turn right in just a moment There we go we’ve just headed underneath that George Street Bridge you can see a couple of Marshals there which will point you in the right direction maybe a little bit of a double 90° Bend there which is uh difficult and if that was slippy then yes definitely take it a lot
Slower but on the day it wasn’t too bad and the puddle there right in the center as well so if you want to get wet you can run straight through that puddle but if not do what I did run around it and keep going watch out for public as well
Cuz there’s also some public that run down the side of of here as well but so try and keep to your left hand side and then on the way back you’ll see that we switch over and now we’re on then be on that right hand side we’re doing quite
Well at the moment 5 minutes in just going to head off to this point now where we turn off to the right and it’s more like a sort of horseshoe so you may see in the distance some other Runners which are further in front but we’re
Doing quite well at the moment and we’re fairly close to the front as well cuz there’s 300 nod Runners on the day I can’t remember exactly how many so we’re doing quite well to stick near the Front and that is the horse Shoe Bend done do keep your eye out for ballards as well cuz every so often there are bards ballards in the center of the path so you don’t want to run straight into one of those otherwise you may injure yourself so that wouldn’t be ideal but
As you can see all still hard standing every so often a little bit of standing water to uh look out for but apart from that it’s quite a simple run to be honest so as you can see all of this is pretty much flat look how nice this run
Is I have to say if you’re trying to get your PB I would definitely recommend going to this run for sure and if you are enjoying this video do make sure to hit that like And subscribe button if you want to see some more part runs
We’ve currently done 17 so uh you’ve got all those other videos that you can watch and I also do some volunteering as well and made some videos on that if you want to check those out in the worldwide part run playlist and also if you want to share with other people that have
Done this run as well let me know in the comments if you are there on the day two and now we are making our way off to the next bridge and then we’re going to do a U-turn and head our way all the way back down this Path we’re currently just running around a housing estate which is probably what is on the right hand side and you in the distance you can see City Bridge which we’ll be heading under in just a moment this one felt really quick to be fair
And I think I think it was cuz I did quite a good time which we will see at the end as to whether I did manage to get on the leaderboard or not but because this is such a flat run you do find yourself going a lot quicker than
You usually do but don’t go off too quickly otherwise you’re going to struggle to keep that pace and as you can see it has opened up a bit you probably could cut the corner a little bit if you wanted to and go through the puddles there but we’ve just
Tried to run around them at the moment it’s still all hard standing we’re heading just under City bridge now now so we’re almost halfway just got a little bit further to go and then there will be a U-turn which you will see in a minute and once we’ve done that U-turn
We are literally heading back down the straight the same route you can see there the third person in first position just run past us there as well so that’s why he keeps the left on side otherwise you’re running directly onto them so it’s a little bit similar to five
Archers which we did quite a few runs ago now I don’t know how many weeks ago that was it was one of the first ones but 10 minutes 34 not too bad bear in mind we are nearly halfway there Nice little view there on the left hand side and the urn is just up here as you can see not too many people were on that right hand side so I was thinking oh I must have a decent time because I I don’t use a watch anything to uh get my
Time I just go for it and hope that I managed to beat my other time so it’s quite difficult to uh watch my Pace but here’s the U-turn around the orange cone thanks to Marshall and that’s probably the biggest pinch point of the whole run
To be honest because the rest of it is literally a flat run with some maybe 45 degree bends but that’s a U-turn so that slowed us down slightly but we’ve picked up our Pace again and now we are heading all the way back from where we came From at this point I thought I’d found my Pace to be honest and the person in front of me was a good Pacer for me to be honest I was like as long as I just stay with him I should be able to keep
At this pace for the rest of the run and as long as I don’t lose him in my sight then I’m pretty happy with the time that I’ve got to be honest but you can see the city Bridge there ahead of us we’re just about to cross underneath that
There’s all the other Runners on the right hand side you can see if you spot yourself running but we’re just heading now under this bridge for the second and final time and then we’re going to keep to this left hand side now and Dodge around the puzzles and head our way back
Towards the next Bridge the George Street Bridge The person that did actually come in first place got time of 16 minutes and 45 seconds which is actually unbelievable I don’t understand how people can run it that quick it’s incredible but as I said it’s not a race it is just a run so it’s great to see so
Many people out there doing the Run 300 nod as well which is a very popular part R obviously because it’s in the center of a city it is going to be popular but there is also the trade House part run as well which isn’t too far away from
Here maybe a 15 20 minute drive and that one has a lot more of enil it’s got lots of Trail paths it’s got uh you’re running around a park instead of just doing one lap so I think it’s maybe four laps in the winter so a lot more laps
But this was a really good one for your PB I have to say that’s like these roundabouts which I was on about where so if you’re going one way keep to the left hand side as long as you keep to the left you can’t go wrong and as long
As you can see the river RK on your right hand side then you can’t go wrong either so you definitely course getting back to the start and uh hopefully getting one of your best times that you ever Done as you can see the clouds are starting to part and it is get turning out to be a fairly nice day to be honest it didn’t rain at all which was perfect really maybe a little bit spitting at the start but it’s completely changed
The weather as usual in the UK but we’ve just back to that horseshoe SE now so we’ve turned left going to go around as you can see on the other side and then come back to in line with the river usk and then we’re literally following the
River usk all the way back to the theater and to the finish Line for you done next Landmark is the George Street Bridge so we’re just going to head under that one now make sure again the 45° Bend there so don’t slip over on the colder days the icy days you don’t want to go flying around that corner and trip over do make sure to
Stay safe and again watch out for these ballards in the center you don’t want to get taken out by a Ballard but as you can see all the people that were on their first lap we’ve now passed so you can spread out a little bit and maybe
Move into the right hand side but again do watch out for public which you’re also using the Paths so we know we are heading towards the finish line now we have decided to pick up the pace a bit and maybe leave who I treated as my pacer in front of me and sort of try and pick it up to the finish line and maybe we can get a time
Which is quicker than chipping suby or even maybe quicker than IAM and get on that leader board to try and get us our fastest time of the year we’re now passing that Newport City Center foot Bridge so we know now that there’s not land marks left ahead of us
So we can start picking up the pace as we go in between the trees the finish line is only about maybe 300 M away from here so we can start to pick it up try and get our fastest time yet it’s currently time 2135 not too much further to go but can
We beat our time this what I’m hoping for because we’ve not managed to get under 33 yet so that’s what I’m going to try and do but we’ll have to see whether we can do that or not so it’s the final Bend before the finish line so we’re taking this first Corner
Then we’re going to turn right here and then we are heading to the Finish Line as you can see they’ve put some high VI on the Ballard so that you’re not being take you’re not going to to get taken out by a Ballard and there easy to see
We’re starting for that Sprint finish now the finish line is just ahead there’s a few of people that have already finished the run as well which is impressive and there it is the cones guiding you to that Finish Line what time can we get unfortunately we didn’t
Get under 2 3 minutes but can we get less than chiping soy it looks like we will do and yes we have managed to do so we got a time there of 23 minutes and 10 seconds so I was very happy with that time on the day and that is going to
Knock chiping soy off of the leaderboard as well as you can see stunning day after that so we went out into Newport had a few drinks and then we headed home so that is Riverfront part run complete ticking that R off that alphabetti challenge and it is a great one for the
PB a really quick out there and back all along the river usk as well so quite picturesque to be honest I didn’t think it would be as picturesque as it was it was really nice running down alongside the river and quite surprisingly it wasn’t that windy at all I was able to
Get a really quick time and that is definitely one of my quickest past post injury and my quickest this year you’re not going to get lost on this one either with it being a straight out there and back so as long as you’re following the person in front you can’t really go
Wrong but for the person in front you basically dictating where everyone else goes but do make sure to keep to that left hand side as well so you’re not colliding on the way back on the way there it seems okay and then once you’ve seen the person in first pass you you
Obviously know then there’s going to be more people on that right hand side that you don’t want to run into and now let’s have a look at the very limited pinch points so there’s only really one that is the main pinch point and that is the
U-turn at the far end so that’s going to slow down just a little bit for a few seconds take some seconds off your time just while you try to pick up the pace again but apart from that the can’t really say it’s that hilly cuz you’re
Not going to get a much flatter part run than that it was busy but you could still overtake people that wasn’t an issue either and on the day it was quite dry as well so I can’t really comment on any standing water so for Pinch points it’s just that one singular pinch point
And as usual a huge thank you to all of the volunteers who are there on the day they are all really kind and supportive and without them the Run would not go ahead so thank you very much and now we’re moving on to the tips and tricks
Section of the video so let’s start off with public transport you can get to this run literally any way possible you can walk cycle take the car train or bus really easily access so if you want to get the train is literally an 8 minutes walk from the train station to the start
And the riverfront area is literally just opposite Newport Central bus station as well so you can get the bus straight to there you can see a full list of all of the bus routes on the Newport City Council website which I’ll try and Link down in the comments below
And also if you want to get there by Road there’s quite a few different car parts you’ve got the riverfront theater car part but that one’s usually limited to spaces so I’d maybe try out either the frier walk car park or the car park which I tried which was Kings ways car
Park which has definitely got plenty of spaces all three of those you’ll definitely find a space in at least one of those and if you’re one of those that enjoys a post part run coffee straight after the event you can go to the Riverfront Cafe which is located right
Near the start that’s all of the tips and tricks that I know but if you are regular to Riverfront part run do make sure to let us know down in the comments of any other tips which you have but with that being said let’s take a quick
Look at my stats and yes we have managed to get Riverfront Park run onto that leaderboard there in third place knocking off sh in soy with a time there of 23 minutes and 10 seconds and the number of part runs completed has also obviously increased to 17 now so that is
It that is Riverfront Park run and if you did attend the run on the day do make sure to let me know down in the comments too and if you like me and you love watching part run content we have last week’s part run which was there in
Mam and then we also have the other part runs which I’ve run so far in the worldwide part run playlist so I hope you all enjoyed this video and don’t forget to hit that like button and share it with others and then next week we are
Off to Alexandra park run which is up north in Manchester so I’ll see you all in the next one
