In our last video we took you some of the coolest and quirkiest cafes here in Hanoi and today we’re hitting the streets and doing a 3our food tour through hanoi’s old quarter I won’t lie I’m a little nervous for this food tour I am a very picky eater and I have a lot

Of things that I don’t like but I haven’t put down any dietary requirements I’m just going for it I’m going to be brave and try everything but just a little nervous now because I’ve gone vegetarian for today we get to show you two t of experiences on this food

Tour Stace is going to go regular experience and I will show you the vegetarian experience because of course I only eat chicken and fish but today there is no chicken and fish it’s vegetarian for me so our tour guide Tyler just told us that our food tour is

Going to consist of five stops three Savory one drink one sweet I’m excited let’s see where stop number one brings us this definitely feels off the beaten path we’ve come through a very thin dark alleyway type thing now up some move in stairs we will try the new version of

The fur so our first meal of the tour is lazy fur also known as fur spring roll so essentially it’s the same ingredients as what you’d find in fur or dried fur rolled up in rice paper and easy to eat I have mushroom inside mine I think

Stace has beef inside of her now the dipping sauce that I’ve gone with is not vegetarian it’s fish sauce I’m not sure if he had a alternative for me or not I’m sure it’s really fresh and our second meal is another type of fur this is dried fur so Tyler was saying that

Fur is obviously such a big dish in Vietnam and it’s very frequently eaten however who wants to eat a big bowl of soup in summer it’s too hot so this is the alternative it’s dried fur so I think instead of the soup it’s like a soy sauce sitting down the bottom and

Then you mix it together but it’s not as like heavy soup like not as hot and mine is the vegetarian version I have mushrooms and Stace I believe has chicken I actually really like that I didn’t think I’d like the mushrooms but it’s quite simple like soy sauce and

Noodles but it’s warm but not too hot the mushrooms just I don’t know they make it filling but not it doesn’t feel like a heavy meal I do I really like it so Rob said mine is chicken looks pretty good I think it’s all the same ingredients that’s in regular foot it’s

Just not got the super component so yeah I tried good this is actually our first ever fur in Vietnam so we’re starting off fur the dried fur it won’t be our last fur we booked this experience through get your guide and we’ll leave a link in the description below if you’d like to

Check it out now if you do click on that link and purchase the same tour that we’re doing we do get a bit of a kickback when it comes at no extra cost to you so thank you very much if you do that we appreciate you supporting us now

Of course this food tour is through the streets of the old quter here in Hanoi those streets are very thin there is not really a pedestrian sidewalk so Tyler gave us the heads up we should walk in single file if necessary and um when Crossing roads essentially it’s

Just hope for the best you kind of stand your ground and hope that the cars in the motorcycle stop and do not hit you also check this out it’s amazing that’s not even the worst we’ve seen I wish we filmed it the other day but he went to go and the bike

Went to flip backwards cuz he’ put so much stuff on the back of a bike it’s crazy here yeah I’m seeing new levels of creativity in terms of what people are able to fit on and balance on their motorbikes it’s pretty impressive our second stop of the day

We’ve stopped for some steamed rice paper don’t know how to say the Vietnamese name but we’ll put it here on the screen but we’ve got a few different variations we have a mushroom and pork an egg and a plain one all to try we have fish sauce to dip it into as well

Put a different type of fish sauce to what we have with the first spring rolls this one is more of a sweet fish sauce but there’s also com quats that you can squeeze in to make it a little bit sweeter as well so we’ll give it a go

It’s so weird oh I think I picked a bad one to start with because it’s got like the texture of eggs whereas like that one will like this just kind of feels like I’m eating a fried egg oh okay no it’s not bad I think this one’s literally just the rice

Paper roll with nothing inside really going to bring out the fish flavor um it’s exactly what you’d imagine like eating a rice paper roll with nothing inside it but I mean dipping into fish sauce it’s tasty like there’s nothing wrong with it I’d eat it again I don’t know if I’d pay for

It it’s fine got the pork and mushroom she purposes by saying I hate mushrooms but oh God better than the egg one but not my not my favorite thing wait till you try the rice paper one you’re going to love it what do you think definitely needs a filling exactly

What what you think it would taste like right and after our steamed rice paper we are already off to restaurant number three I got a feeling I know what this stop might be it’s a very typical Vietnamese food now Tyler’s gone to pick up our

Barn and he’s left us in front of the first church ever built in Hanoi it’s over 100 years old so it’s not actually that old when you think about it is it well we’ve been fortunate enough to see a lot of very old churches in our travels that’s true to be fair

It’s probably older than a lot of churches back home in Australia but this church sits right in between the old quarter and the French Quarter which makes sense because the church has a very French background up to I think he said 1955 is only French people and like

Very upper class people were allowed into the church now of course everyone is allowed which is very nice and it’s funny we were walking through the French Quarter before not knowing that it was a French Quarter and I said to say these buildings look really Parisian so it’s

Evident that there is definitely French influence in and around Hanoi and hopefully I think we will get to the French Quarter in a future video so make sure you subscribe so you don’t miss that one I’ve just realized that the church is really familiar looking it

Brought me back to our time in Montreal Canada if you haven’t seen that video we’ll link it up there because this church looks like the nraam church in Montreal and I think if you Google nraam Hanoi this church comes up so I wonder if it’s kind of based off of that with

Zero research I’m not sure but check out our Montreal video cuz that was a really good time okay our bar me has been acquired and as bar me is off and eaten on the go that’s exactly what we’re going to do we’re going to eat our bar

Me as we walk to our fourth spot which is our coffee spot that vegetarian bar me was actually really really good we had bar me the other day we didn’t film it and it was okay we had chicken bar me but this one was way better so if I’m gonna get B me

Again I’m actually gonna get vegetarian what do you think of not a Massy she’s not a massive fan of B me but now we’re onto our coffee stop it’s that time of day where we’re both craving a coffee okay we have made it into a cafe and we’re going to try some signature

Vietnamese coffees now we have already tried the egg coffee I like it if you didn’t see our previous video we will link it up there but we are going to get one from here because he says it’s very good we’re also getting a salt coffee which he recommended we’ve not heard of

But and then as we wait for our coffees Tyler has gone off to get our dessert and Vietnamese dut balls is the impression I got he says that they are amazing and they’re really good when you dip them into your drinks so we’ve promised him not to drink all of our

Drinks before he get backu all right we have the salt coffee now we didn’t know it’s actually cold it’s like an iced coffee I don’t know the protocol on how to drink this I don’t know if you meant to stir it first like cappuccino I’m going to do it I’m going to Sy

This that is amazing yeah I really like it it’s like really sweet it doesn’t taste salty I taste more sweet than Salt but it’s really yum I’m just getting [Applause] fun so we have the Vietnamese I can feel something inside Vietnamese Donuts this one’s a sugar one

We also have a honey cated one and a sesame one which is a bit more Savory I think there’s mung beans dried mung beans inside my bad and Tyler set now to dip it in the coffee so the egg coffee has three layers so the first layer is condensed

Milk you then have the black coffee and then egg foam so it’s like whipped egg yolk with a bit of sugar and a bit of rice wine which helps kind of cook the egg in a way so to make it so you are able to drink it but it’s really

Interesting type of coffee not like anything else we’ve had every one we’ve tried has been quite different so recommend trying a few while you are in Hanoi few different egg coffees but there’s obviously such a big coffee culture here in Vietnam which definitely comes from the French influence but one

Of the biggest coffee producers in the world is Vietnam so so many different types of coffee to try are also known for being quite strong coffees here in Vietnam so fireable what a great way to dip our toes in the Vietnamese food Cuisine I think if you’re nervous like

I’m a very picky eater so I get very nervous when I get to a new country and like trying the new foods for the first time so doing a food tour is a great way to have someone else pick the food for you like these are a good sample of the

Local Cuisines and then it kind of warms you up a little bit Yeah you into it now we paid 38 Australian dollars each for that tour as I said earlier it was with get your guide and the link is in the description below but I’d highly recommend it there wasn’t really

Anything we disliked and as St said it’s a great way to experience different types of foods to kind of get an idea of what you might enjoy as I almost gave by a I think if you were to go and purchase all the individual things it might work

Out a little bit cheaper but the benefit of having a guide is you get to try things like we tried things we hadn’t heard of like the steamed rice paper and donut bowls which is good and you get the history behind like we had no idea

What the layers of egg coffee were we just knew that egg coffee was a thing so you get a lot of information which is super helpful and Tyler even gave us his number for us to text if we have any questions or want any more recommendations on where we should eat

Or things to do here in Hanoi so we couldn’t ask for more than that having said all that our food tour is done so this video is done if you liked it give it a like comment down below what you think your favorite food would be and

Make sure you subscribe because we have so much more to do here in anoi and in Vietnam thanks for watching Bye

    1. Finally a halfway satisfying video again! ^^
And all without tears, I am deeply touched by how brave Rosh has now become in Asia. <3
Or is Stace's extra-spicy secret powder, which she used to mix in from time to time, already gone?
(Drama-emotional effects when COO tries to make the script…) 😛
