In this video, I install the Wolf Tooth chainring onto the Specialized Creo.
Wolf Tooth was first to market with Cyclocross 1x specific chainrings because they saw Cyclocross as the perfect use for the Drop-Stop® technology. Since their release, the uses for these rings has expanded beyond Cyclocross to commuting, gravel riding, mountain bikes with 5-arm crank power meters, and even full on-road applications with the giant 50t rings.
* Fits 110 BCD 5 arm cranksets
* Drop-Stop technology. On Wolf Tooth’s patented wide/narrow chainring, the wide side of the tooth has maximum contact on the drive side which spreads the load and improves chainring life. The narrow side allows clearance for mud and debris which reduces friction.
* Alternating wide/narrow tooth pattern prevents chain derailment
I also replaced my worn out chain with a KMC X11EL.

Hi guys welcome back and welcome back to the Vlog um today I’m doing a bit of an upgrade to the uh to the Creo so always a good day when you’re doing an upgrade uh so I’m upgrading the chain ring and uh replacing the chain as it’s quite
Worn I’ve purchased the wolf too drop stop chain ring and chain ring bolts and I’ll also be replacing the chain yeah so if you suffer from a random chain drop like me then this then will apparently solve our problems uh the wolf to chain ring has a drop stop chain retaining
Tooth design it looks very similar to others but this design is alternating a wide and narrow tooth pattern apparently this prevents chain a chain derailment so we’ll have a look at that in a minute yeah I’ve had a lot of problems with the practice chain ring um yeah you just get
Random chain drops whever you just hit in the gravel Trails or like me on a on a descent um where it’s quite bumpy on a road descent and uh by the time I got to the bottom chains hanging off so it’s not good it’s not a nice when it happens
To you but this chain ring has been recommended to me by one of my subscribers so thank you very much I am going to be taking the chain off but I’ll just show you what you can do um if you’re not replacing the chain just undo
The clutch so you got a nice slack and just simply he said just simply unhook the chain like that or if you like me going to be removing the chain anyway you want to look for the chain link there it is you see that guys so I’m going to bust that one
Open that’s how simple it is just to remove that always handed to have the tool as well and I’ll take this chain off and save that so I can Meine my other chain with this one in a minute let’s get a 5 mil key Allen key and let’s remove this chain ring
Now I have had this chain ring off a couple of times and I’ve put um frad lock on it so it’s a little bit difficult yeah I really hope this uh new chain ring works for me that’s start off now there’s the bolts very simple to take the chain ring
Off Al got that off I’ll give it a nice little clean behind there so this is the uh this is the pl one I’ve just taken off and this is the uh the wolf tooth uh chaining and you can see the difference you can see the details there look guys you got nothing
Nothing that hold that chain on you can really see the difference there can’t you and the pattern difference this is at the back I’ve G for the gray nuts nuts and bolts I quite like that we’ll have a look at that when it’s finished but you can get all sorts of
Colors you come in I think they come in blue red silver coordinate with your bike’s colors so that’s good you can just see these little hooks here like where they got a a wide and a thinner tooth I am just going to uh use a bit of fredlock on
These uh on these nuts here cuz um there’s none on there and I I don’t want them coming off I’ve always used them as you can see here on the uh on the old bolts just a little dab on each of them so let’s have a look at this
Uh chain ring on the bike oh that looks nice that looks very nice right let’s get started and install it it so we got a bolt which goes out the back 4 mil hex key they look really nice mine don’t they I do like that color I do like that
Color right got the torque wrench there go I like that love the colors really nice is it I like that go I’m hoping that this this works so I’ll stretch the old chain out let’s get the new one out so now they’re lined up at the ends
Top one’s the old chain bottom one’s the new chain and I’ve got to break it there that’s still got the link on so if I’ll break it there so I got to take out two links yes so I’m going to be using my uh tow Peak um multi-tool kit
It is really good one it’s got all the tools that you’ll ever need out on the road uh including the chain breaker so you got the chain breaker there you got a chain hook so you can hook the so you can hook the chain up in a minute as
I’ll show you in a minute and obviously you’ve got the uh take off the sides trying to show you it’s not this side there are Tire levers on the side uh Tire levers and um spoke tightener actually you can see the spoke tightener there so if we go to the other side of
This to peak one you now you’ve got the uh the ax key to go in the end there look and uh then you can break the chain as I’ll show you in a minute if you put the chain chain in then it just hits the rivet there a lot see the
Rivet and you get this end here and you just and that’s it it’s through bit of force but it just push that pin out UND do it all there you go let’s get this back on the bikee yeah so it’s a really really handy tool this one uh yeah great little chain
Breaker pop that back in there yeah it’s got everything on this one literally everything bits in Bobs you can say spoke fast and everything this is the uh to PE one so we broken the chain next now it’s exactly the same length quick links always make sure the right ends is on
The outside of the chain as well pull it through and this is that hanger from the multi tool that I was showing you earlier um just stick that one just hook it on to that one just pull that chain through there give yourself a couple of links
Just so it hangs like that and then you got room to uh put your Missing Link in I use this tool because I find it better then and all you do is put that in there and then just pull it like that just pull it out like that and it
Just snaps them into place that’s that all on let give it a spin nice right let’s put the clutch black on and that is it guys it’s my gray bult through there from the wolf too chain ring there more new chain on very nice I quite like that sort of a matches
With a lle don’t it that was your idea anyway and apparently that’s going to solve all my problems I hope so because I got a lot of gravel riding to do this year um so I’m looking forward to that I’ve got faith in this one it’s got great reviews and it’s come recommended
By subscribers so what more can I say yeah so the chain I use is the KMC uh X11 EO extra light um and the reason I went for KMC um rather than like shano is a KMC or more of a universe chain so with it being two different
Components there KMC seems the obvious choice so got good reviews on this chain anyway so uh and I have used it a number of times in on previous bike so yeah it’s a good chain yeah so hopefully uh this will do what it’s meant to do what
It’s designed to do and stop those annoying chain drops yes because I have been in the forest on this bike on the gravel trails and I’ve like to take a chain ring off in the forest holding all the nuts just so I can pull the chain out from down
Behind and in between the frame yeah you don’t really want to scratch your frame up so uh you either to strip it all down so hopefully I won’t get that problem again so this is the drop stop B 110 BCD 46 too wolf too chain ring yeah that looks absolutely brilliant I’m well
Pleased with that so guys if you like me if you like what watching that installation if you haven’t already please subscribe or even like the video If it helped you in any way and as usual guys until next time make sure you get out there and ride and I’ll see you on
The next one bye for now bye-bye Bye

Did the same thing on my Vado SL. But I went for a smaller chainring as I found on the steep 20% plus, lanes on Dartmoor the 44T Praxis chainring was too big for my fitness(!) I got a Race Face narrow wide 38T which really helped the SL motor on the steep gradients. I'm not as fit as you I reckon and the Vado Sl despite having the same motor as the Creo is a heavier bike. Never had any chain drops mind you, but I've read that this happens a lot with the Creos for some reason. That Wolf Tooth should sort it for you. Happy riding.
You've done yourself a favour there – that stock Praxis chainring is ABSOLUTE junk… Specialized should be ashamed to have put that crap on our Creos…
I just put a cheap and cheerful Amazon CHN branded 48t narrow wide chainring on and it performs about 90% as well as a Wolf Tooth ( I've had quite a few of them on gravel & MTB bikes )…
I suffered a pretty painful crash this past year – which necessitated a week or so recovery – because of that stock Praxis chainring… Decided to try a VERY steep uphill concrete path that I've never been able to do before and thought "OK, pop her in the highest mode and lets see if the extra assist will let me make the top" Got about 90% up and had to shift to the largest cog on the cassette – under load* taboo normally – and the chain popped off the chainring on the shift and I went through the floor at a very bad time – basically the same as snapping a chain under full power at over 400w on about a 20% gradient… Knee, wrist, shifter & bar tape all came out worse for wear.. Got home and ordered a replacement…
The Praxis was an awful chainring. Early doors, I swapped to the Garbaruk chainring, similar to the Wooftooth, but comes in a range of lovely anodized colours. Nor only was the Praxis poor at retention, it was also heavy. The Creo 2 has swapped to Sram chainrings, which is a vast improvement
Another great video. I also have heard nothing but good news about the Wolf Tooth chain ring. Fortunately I haven’t experienced any chain drops (yet) but when I do I will probably do just what you did.
Please keep us updated with the performance of the upgrades.
Very informative video, did you consider an oval, like absolute
Looks the part, hopefully solves the problem, too 👍 I have the same multitool and used the chain splitter yesterday for the first time. Does the job very well 👍
Thanks for the tip. I haven't had issues (knock on wood) but will keep it in mind for when I need to upgrade.
Thanks for this video I have been having the same problem, I have ordered one today for my Creo but went for the 44T to help with the hills when not using motor.
I’ve swapped to a wolf tooth about a month ago, my creo has been bulletproof since. As far as I’m concerned it’s a required upgrade for any creo no matter the surface you ride.
Just ordered up mine bud, gone for gold bolts and ordered the KMC gold titanium chain.
It’s crap for road on a proper bike not an electric moped
