Our third port. Santa Cruz de Tenerife & the magnificent Mount Teide.
A day of two halves; the morning spent visiting the dramatic Teide National Park & the afternoon exploring the town of Santa Cruz.
The magnificent Mount Teide was a huge draw for us & the P&O excursion did not disappoint. Famous for being the landscape for many movies & the “go to” training ground for UCI cycling teams, the dramatic scenery was unlike anything we’d seen before – as if we were on the moon, but without having to leave the earth’s atmosphere. I was totally captivated by Mount Teide & its foothills and have included a section in this video dedicated to just this area.
Having returned to the town of Santa Cruz, we then explored the streets & found a host of interesting sights. Actually, we were trying to find a certain famous coffee house for another mug to add to our collection – the rest of it was a bonus! It was interesting to discover streetart depicting the Battle of Santa Cruz in 1797; Lord Horatio Nelson is a British historical icon, but clearly is not so revered in Tenerife.
A late evening sail-away prevented a high quality timelapse departure, but the clusters of bright lights visible on the island were certainly dramatic enough in their own right for that not to be a disappointment.
Buenas noches Tenerife…
