I decided to have a shot at riding at Lance Armstrong’s record breaking power up Alp D’Huez. Lance set the time during the Individual Time Trial of the 2004 Tour de France and averaged a staggering 495w. This was brutal…

Now me and Mr Lance Armstrong aren’t too dissimilar both of us were banned from competing in the sport of cycling but I think that’s where our similarities end in 2004 whilst on his way to winning his sixth Porter France Armstrong won the individual time Tri up out the ways by

Over a minute and in doing so set the second fastest recorded time ever up the French Mountain only 1 second slower than the Italian Marco pantani so I decided to head to the out the ways in the French Alps this time of the year it’s a ski resort but thankfully right

Now the road is clear of any snow the clim is 13.9 KM long and this is the start point it consists of 21 hair pins all the way to the top Lance Armstrong ascended this climb in 37 minutes and 36 seconds which gives him an average speed

Of around 22 km per hour Armstrong released his power data for that particular ride and on this day he averaged 495 Watts for that 36 minute effort which equates to 6.97 watts per kilo now my current weight that puts it at slightly over 500 wats average which is

Just I mean there’s not even an adjective to describe that I don’t think that is ridiculous however for the sake of this effort and to hopefully allow it to last a little bit longer I’m just going to try and average 495 wats just as Lance Armstrong did

Back in 2004 now to measure this effort I’m going to be using the aoma Duos which is fao’s two-sided pound meter to give me accuracy within 1% which means there’s no cheating oh I love how easy the ASA Duo pedals are to install and move from one

Bike to another just like a normal pair of pedals asoma features both Bluetooth and ant plus connectivity for a seamless compatibility between bike computers and smartphones the fu asoma Duo power meter pedals measure power individually on both legs this is a great tool especially if you’ve had a a one-sided

Injury or you’re coming from a one-sided dominated sport asoma guarantees accurate and consistent data in all conditions on the road and at any temperature ranging from -1° to 60° cenr thanks to the automatic temperature compensation technology personally my favorite feature on these pedals is the rechargeable batteries the USB charger

Simply attaches to each pedal magnetically and one full charge will last you for around 50 hours the asoma power pedals are available in both one-sided and two-sided versions if you’d like to find out more about them check out the link in the description box down below just currently having a

Little bit of a warm-up going to spin the legs for 10 15 minutes now before I get into this effort I would really appreciate if you subscribe to this channel it helps me out massively it allows me to continue to do stupid things like this and come to Crazy parts

Of the world I’d say back in 2004 there might have been one or two more substances in lamp’s Armstrong’s blood that in mine however on the same note he probably has more talent in one toe than I do in m entire body I don’t think any amount of drugs blood transfusions EPO

Would get me to the top of this climb in 36 minutes I’m not going to lie I’m a little bit nervous about this actually I’m I’m not a little bit nervous I I’m very nervous about this one I don’t think I’m going to be able to hold this

Uh this pace for long at all it’s quite a daunting thought you see a little bit of drawing now on the on the floor it says go Marco with an Italian flag I’m assuming that’s for Maru pantani who also did this climb in 36 minutes anyway

At is decided to jump back on the bike and go for it before the ultimate attempt I’m going to do a test run 30 seconds at record Pace call it a warmup all right we’re just about to go around the left hand turn which indicates the

Start of the climb to this first effort which is going to try and hold 30 seconds okay here we go that’s 49 500 500 20 seconds down 10 more to go was trying to find the rhythm of this effort not Spike up and down too much

All right 30 seconds that was 30 that was 30 that was 30 I think I can see the realization of the mammoth task I’d undertaken here I don’t think I quite realize just how hard I need to go let alone hold that number for more than half an

Hour um yeah I don’t think there’s much more to say time to time to crack on 495 WS for as long as I can let’s get the show on the road here’s the left turn we’re going to hit the lap button and off we go all right 495 There It

Is Just Breathe cam just breathe Just Breathe 500 Average one pedal in front of the Other that’s a minute that’s a Minute minute 30 still there 495 wow Hell it was at this moment that he knew he up 2 minutes two minutes Oh think I’m gone 497 496 2 minutes 2 minutes 20 seconds oh my God now I’m I’m a I’m currently a a pigment of my former self but I think even at my best at my strongest I’d be able to hold that effort for maybe three and a half maybe 4

Minutes it’s uh it’s it’s things like this which really make me realize why I became a YouTuber and not a professional Cyclist a

    1. That was a lot of build up for… well nothing really. Just a very distasteful admiration of a disgraced cheat who got caught doping and stealing other people’s dreams. Not your best work 💩⛔️❌

    2. I think you’ve gone about the wrong way in fairness.. I’d have have taken 10 percent of the Lance target as EPO and all the other stuff was worth about that! So say about 450 would have been a fairer target for you!

    3. 495w's?! 36mins? Easy mate…just easy…well not easy…actually really hard for even one minute!! Looking at power curve my best ever was 495 for 1min32. Doesn't look like I'll be winning the tdf anytime soon 🙁

    4. okay 2 things – 1: I'd be curious to see how long it would take you to get to the top at your own pace/watt output just to compare to lance's time. and 2: i really appreciated that ad read – it was informative about a cool product i knew nothing about and seemed like something that could actually benefit cyclists, so i really enjoyed it and didn't skip like most other ad reads

    5. I’ve ridden alp D’Huez several times, it’s hard, the first 4 turns are steeper than they look on screen. Cadence of the London eye, power was irrelevant tbh …. It’s the grind to the top …. But for those who’ve been recently, the road route has changed at the top so remember to turn left to keep to the original route

    6. I use the Assioma Duo Shi's, love them. I swap them between my indoor bike and road bike for consistency.
Jesus that's some effort. Would have liked to see you complete the climb and your own average power for it.
The most I've done for 2 mins is 470 watts, not bad for a 50 year old. 😊

    7. Watched the TT live in 2004. Stayed in the campsite 500m away and woke at 3am too excited to sleep so walked up the mountain…. with 1 million other people following 4-5hours later. It was 6 people deep all the way up. Saw all of the greats: Basso, Ullrich, Big George, Virenque, Boonan and The GOAT. It's a shame the TdF have never held a proper mtn TT like the L'Alpe since. Then LA won the Le Grand-Bornand the next day. Corr what a tour! Top Fuel cycling at it's best!

    8. Pantanis 1995 time is the quickest ever up the alpe and he went the wrong way at the last corner. Also armstrong was 18 minutes behind that day that was the real arsmtrong.

    9. Great video mate. Lance is the GOAT and look how fast all those rim brake times are still to this day. Makes the new tech look laughable. 7800 FTW! 🙂

    10. great vid and great effort. Can we now discuss the elephant in the room. The steering tube length and why there is length above the handlebar stem????

    11. Clearly rules are rules and was worthy of a DQ and possible minor sanction but to suggest what Cam did was unfair is barking. This equalising not gaining advantage. The rules were ridiculous. The bike needs to be equalised out of eracing.
