The Dutch say: ‘You are not made of sugar, you won’t melt in the rain!’. When you cycle for utility reasons the weather is of lesser importance. If you go to work by bike, you go there when the sun shines but of course also when it rains.
Weather conditions do not really change the number of cyclists in the Netherlands. The Dutch simply put on a rain coat, a “rain suit”, or they get out their umbrellas. Riding a bike while holding up an umbrella is perfectly normal in the Netherlands. And a lot of people feel they will simply dry up quickly enough again.
These pictures were taken on a cold and rainy April morning in Utrecht. The intersection is undergoing major reconstructions and building is taking place all around it. That is why it is not up to modern Dutch standards with its bad temporary road surface and ugly temporary concrete divisions. Ugly but safe enough. What makes the intersection really safe are the separate cycle traffic lights with separate green phases for cyclists.

Fuck these bicycles. More likely to hit someone riding a bicycle. Everyday in Amsterdam I witnessed bicycle accidents.
Is talking in public forbidden there? The only thing I hear are the cars and the wind. Or did you mute those people? Or are those people actually robots who don't have a need to socialise? It seems so boring…
I love cycling, lived in San Francisco bay area and now back in Houston. I like my car too. I really don't like riding in miserable winter or when it feels like 120 degree. With the car, I can go to 6 cities easily in the bay area, be in woods and beach less than 30 minutes. Wouldn't work in Texas, too hot, humid and it's big with more people prefer to live outside of the city.
This video is not cycling in the rain. This is cycling after the rain. I did not see a drop fall in the video. Come on.

For single speed? i.e. 2.2:1? or lower?
I would be like "WTF?!" if I saw cyclists with an umbrella in Florida, but the fact that many ppl use them and ride with one hand just shows how safe it is!
