This was a bt of a rest day during my 2017 bike tour across Sweden, Finland and Norway. After spending the night camped in the forest just outside the city of Alta, Norway, I woke the next morning, cycled into town and ran into a whole bunch of bicycle tourists – including a young man from Estonia named Andreas, who was in the middle of an 8,000 kilometer bike tour across Europe. And guess where he got the inspiration to go on such an epic bicycle touring adventure? From BICYCLE TOURING PRO… of course! He said he watches all my videos and was able to recognize me right away when he spotted me outside the supermarket in Alta, Norway.

You You Another bike turret how’s it going to get you on camera that was a nice guy’s name was Benedict he’s from Germany and he’ll bring in he might serve you saying something I didn’t quite understand but that’s where the next campground was things like that and just telling me
About a trip where he’s from the Germany and stuff all in German so sorry I didn’t get any of that on camera take this place out really nice that’s the direction of my heading way off in the distance over there up into the snow-covered mountains tell me who
You are and where you’re from I am on this from Estonia and what are you doing I am construction construction worker yeah but you’re on a bike trip now where are you going on the trip I plan I started in the zone and matter plus he pays go not come then they’re
Going down to the far side Merrigan in there mark Denmark Germany olan schmuck right thank you all that’s right hey and you said how how long is the total trip that you’re thinking of doing for system but he says like 8,000 kilometers yeah Columbus yeah and what’s been the best part of
The trip for you thus far not the north cat yeah okay and what part are you looking forward to the most learning hmm Bergen Norway yeah yeah cool and any lessons that you’ve learned along the way things you might do differently if you were to do the trip
Again I find let that flute what hmm I’m like a rain jacket and rain pants or something everything super awesome yeah okay cool I’m just going to show your bike here for a second alright I’m all set up in the campground it is blazing hot there’s no shade here
Check out how I have my bike locked up well I have the solar panel in the Sun and the bike is locked down here basically through the various Pole and layers of cloth on my tent so if anyone were to try to take it it would try to
Take my whole tent with them there it is is reception there’s some other bike tourists over here teepees in the distance yeah so now I’m going to take a shower I have one of my batteries charging already I’m going to plug the other battery in and then go take a shower [Applause]
All right so I just found a nice spot here by the river I’m just going to sit on the ground and cook myself some dinner I got some more stuff to make campfire burritos so that’s the plan I just wanted a nice place by the river
Enjoy my food this is my dinner for tonight I got tortillas beans salsa tomato and that’s all I got today is Sunday so like all the stores were closed in the only market that was open was like a tiny little gas station sort of market so they didn’t have very much
I was just able to pick up this and the beans and the rest is leftovers so not much of a dinner tonight but hopefully tomorrow I’ll just load up on food in the morning hit the road and in two or three days I’ll be in the North Cape [Applause]
So earlier today I was reading some of my YouTube comments and there was a comment on one of my latest videos a video that I released from my bike tour in Colombia which I did just a couple months ago and the guy was saying basically that he didn’t like the video
That he wasn’t going to watch any more of my videos and he said he didn’t like the video because he thought that my bike tour in Colombia was sort of aimless but he didn’t understand where I was going or what I was doing or why I
Was trying to get away from people at certain times or why I wasn’t trying more of the local foods that sort of a thing and he said that he liked some of my other videos more he referenced some videos that I put out when I was bike
Training in Portugal and yeah and so I just thought I would comment on that wall I’m thinking about it at the moment because I think it’s worth mentioning there’s a couple things one if you don’t like my videos I don’t know if you have to leave a comment and say that you
Don’t like it you can just not watch it – my bike tour in Colombia was kind of aimless and that was on purpose I was doing that on purpose I was just kind of letting the wind blow me wherever it wanted to if I liked an area I’d stay
There for a while if I didn’t I kept going up the road that’s sort of the thing so that was that was all by designed essentially also like I was trying to get away from people in Colombia because there’s people everywhere and and I’m just not like a big people
Person so like I need to time to myself and so that’s what I was looking for I guess I don’t know exactly what you’re commenting on in that video but also I’m a vegetarian and I was having a terrible time finding food that I could eat when
I was in Ecuador in Colombia I should have brought a camp stove and been cooking my own meals because that wouldn’t have been a problem but as far as like going to restaurants and finding vegetarian food it was almost impossible and I lost a lot of weight
On that particular bike tour like over 12 pounds so I don’t know that’s what you’re picking up on I guess basically and in that one particular video or in that particular series of videos which is my next point and my next point is that there are different types of bike
Tours so my bike tour in Ecuador and Colombia was very different than the bike tour I’m on now and which and this bike tour that I’m on now is very different than the videos that you liked from my bike tour in Portugal or wherever you said you liked because the
Portugal bike tour was a guided bike tour or a self-guided bike to her whereas the whole tour was like organized by a tour company and I was staying in nice hotels and riding with a group every day and eating fancy meals and that sort of a thing and as you can
See by watching this video that’s not the case here right and that wasn’t the case in Colombia either so it’s interesting to me because this particular person said he liked the Colombia or the Portugal videos but didn’t like the Colombia videos and yet other people have said oh man I love
These Colombia videos but I don’t like those Portugal videos with the guided tours and all of that so you know that’s I don’t know an ongoing issue that I’ve had with bicycle touring pros like some people like a certain type of touring and other people like another type but
One of the things that I’ve been trying to do with bicycle turn pro is to show you that there are different types of bicycle tours and I’ve been trying to show you that by going on different sorts of trips that’s why I’ve done guided bike tours like the ones I did in
Portugal or South Africa or Switzerland or Norway or wherever it’s why I’ve done self-guided trips in Latvia and Estonia and France and all over the place and it’s why I do self supported trips like the one I’m on now so I’m trying to show you that there are different types of
Bicycle tours because I know that certain people excuse me are going to be more attracted to certain types of touring like I’m on this trip now where I’m camped out in the forest and I just had a shower for the first time in two weeks now that’s
Not going to appeal to a certain type of person right and I know that so that’s why there are these other types of tours where you get to have a shower everyday and a fancy meal and all of that so I’m just trying to show you different types
Of touring and I hope that like you know this video of this day was just one day of like thousands of days that I’ve spent bicycle touring all around the world and each day is kind of different some days are really interesting some days or not some days I’m just
Surrounded by people and other days it’s just me out here by myself so yeah that’s all I wanted to say is like there are different types of bike touring and the different types of touring are going to appeal to different sorts of people but I’m just trying to show you all of
The different types and in the future after I’ve finished this bike tour I’m going to be showing you some bike packing which is basically just bike touring largely off road and packing in a different sort of manner and I’m going to show you some like van car touring so
That you can like drive your van or car to an interesting area then break your bike out do a little circle route around that area come back to your car and then continue on up the road or back home or whatever so if you keep watching these
Videos you will see that there are different types of bicycle travel anyways that’s all I wanted to say thanks so much for watching guys and I hope to see you out on the road sometime soon
