Amen good evening can we all stand across the house tonight will you find somebody around you and welcome them to the house of the Lord on this Sunday night Amen have you come ready to Worship the Lord tonight amen let’s all join together in prayer let’s just begin to welcome the Holy Spirit Heavenly Father Lord we thank you for how you moved in the house this morning and Lord we come back to your house on this Sunday night
Ready to worship you father Lord I just pray that you would allow your spirit and your anointing to flow fresh through this this place tonight Lord that you would help us to remove all distractions and all hindrances father and that we would be able to come into your house

God I preached this morning on spiritual wisdom and until we get spiritual wisdom we can’t really do this Paul writes he says not that I speak in regard to need because what Paul is saying there have been many times that I have needed something and I’ve had to wait on
God but I have learned anybody ever learn how to wait on God anybody ever have to wait on the Lord he says for I have learned I have found that in order to learn something you’ve got to go through something I said if you’ve got to learn you’re going to learn something you’re
Going to have to go through something so Paul’s saying I’ve been a few few through things and he’s saying I’ve learned in whatever state I am if you were in North Carolina you to be content that’s not the state it’s talking about but it doesn’t matter
Where I am if I’m in Kentucky Tennessee or Ohio doesn’t matter my situation whatever state I am in I have learned Paul said to be content I think we want to be content but we don’t want to go through anything Paul said I’m not speaking in
Regard to need for I have learned in whatever state I am to be tonight I want to deal with the subject being content being content let’s pray father I thank you for your word May the God of Peace Lord as we present this word tonight let it go forth as a pleasing

And so maybe he feeling something that some of you need to feel and uh I have found it’s easy when he’s not content to rule out one of three things one is if he’s crying try to feed him if that doesn’t work brother Dennis check his diaper come on
Somebody and if that doesn’t work the same goes with Haven if that doesn’t work try to put them down for a nap you know children probably ain’t much different than most of us well but I have found it easier to pinpoint the discontentment in my grandchildren but we live in a time when
Being content with what state we’re in is gone by by the wayside and we want to see what looks Greener and what we think looks greener on the other side and if the grass looks greener on the other side to you then I would maybe think about trying watering the grass where you
Are and staying there and being content where God has you right now I have found it is the enemy’s job to ensure that we are never content in the Kingdom it’s the enemy’s role to make sure that we are not content in the Kingdom content does not necessarily
Mean that you have found yourself in a place of comfortableness but to be content where God has you right now you have to come to a realization that we are always fighting against our thoughts and we’re always fighting against our habits and we’re always fighting even against our family your
Church and other relationships that’s important to you including your relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ and I wish it was easy enough to just pinpoint three things and say well I’ll try one of these if that don’t work I’ll try that and if that don’t work
I’ll try that and then we can solve the discontentment but when we’re speaking of contentment tonight I don’t want you to get that confused with apathy you know how I feel about apathy apathy means you become apathetic and then you become athetic no use to the kingdom an apathetic person has accepted their
Situation and therefore they begin to see change as something that’s bothersome when God is wanting to change you it shouldn’t bother you hello there going to be times in our lives when the spirit will impress upon us to change change your attitude somebody hit your neighbor say
Change your attitude oh oh don’t be afraid they may just hit you right back change your attitude has the spirit ever impressed upon you to change your attitude how about this change your behavior has the spirit ever impressed upon you to change change your behavior oh yes
Pastor how about this has the spirit ever impressed upon you the way that you look at someone change the way you may live has that Spirit ever impressed upon you to change your life of sin and bad habits and in those types of things as Christians we should never be
Content we should never be content with our bad attitudes or bad behaviors or the way we treat others if it’s not God’s character we should never be comfortable with sin but we should be constantly moving forward in the kingdom of God and we should be longing for the deeper things
Of God so that we walk in the spirit and not by the flesh John tells us in the 6th chapter thir 63rd verse that it is the spirit who quickens the flesh profits nothing the words that I speak unto you they are spirit and they are
Life so if the spirit gives life the flesh takes away so we should always long to walk in the light as he is in the light we should always long to walk in the spirit but there are too many times in our Christian Journey that we become
Discontent with the state that we’re in and the Very Agent of Change that can help you the holy spirit is the first place we want to look at and blame for our condition but in all reality it comes down to one word and that word is your decisions the decisions that you
Make Paul made decisions and made a decision that he was going to move the kingdom of God forward regardless of the opposition even at the end of his life he says I bring my life as a drink offering I pour it’s been poured out I’ve done everything I’ve poured my
Entire life out I’ve I’ve done everything that I can to be pleasing to God more than to man I had found myself Shipwrecked Paul would go on to write he would go on to write about being imprisoned you know all the stories of Paul’s Journeys his Christian
Journey and he said I have found I have learned even if I’m laying in the pool of my own blood even if I am lying with lashes on my brow or on my back back I’ve learned to be content because if I take a beating for the
Cross if I take something upon me that my Lord and Savior had to bear before I ever had to Bear it myself he will help me get through it and so Paul is teaching us a lesson to be content now this message already doesn’t taste good to some people because
People get comfortable in their discontentment it becomes a companion it’s somebody you wake up with every morning you’re discontent you don’t like what you see in the mirror you get up every day you look in the mirror and you see a person that’s Desiring a closer walk with God
Sometimes not really understanding or realizing how to get there your past has tried to Define you people have tried to Define you they have tried to get you to a place where that you don’t think you’re worth anything the devil is a liar and you’ll look in that mirror
Every day and I promise you the longer you look in that mirror the older you’re going to get because I can tell you what I see in the mirror now doesn’t look like it did 30 years ago this whole body’s getting older the hair is getting grayer but thank God for
Wisdom I wish I knew then what I know now but even then I had to find contentment raising a family my children came Nathaniel in 93 Sarah 97 Hannah in the year of 2000 three years boom boom boom life changed forever once you have children your life’s not your
Own it’s a good life but it’s a different life I’m going somewhere just stay with me working providing for my family doing the things that are necessary going through life coming to church serving in music Ministry this is my testimony this is my story every one of you have your
Own I can’t preach your story maybe God will allow you at some point to do so but I’ve been discontent I have been in a place where life seemed to be less fulfilling I’ve been at a place where it seemed like it was the same old same old come on
Somebody get up on Monday go do one thing all day come back home home eat dinner go to bed repeat Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday repeat and some of you actually go back for a slashing on Saturday they ask you and you can say no but you say yeah I’ll go because you’re
A slave to the paycheck and so you go back Sunday you come and give God half worship CU you’re wore out you’ve been in the world not of the world but you’ve been in the world and you’ve experienced what that life can give you it’s life it’s it’s just the way it
Happens we got bills to pay hello some of us like to take showers and we like water when we do it come on somebody we like to go turn the light switch on and there’s power there uh some of us like to watch a UK basketball
Game on occasion so we got to pay our cable bill whatever bill you have some of us like cell phones so the cell phone but so so you get the gist of it we we we you know just to just the basics of Life uh water and electricity will cost you some
Money and you’ve got to go to work and for those of you that get paid to do what you love to do congratulations most people don’t go to work doing what they want to do it’s a way to a means it’s a paycheck pays the bills some of you deal
With idiots on your jobs hold on not all of you work where I do but it sounds like maybe you do so that tells me they’re everywhere everywhere I look or people that need Jesus let’s just say it that way they haven’t came into his
Life and I try to be an example I try as we all should to be content in whatever state I’m in I decided a very long time ago when I first got married that as long as my wife was happy I was happy and thankfully she’s not hard to
Please now my happiness at this point in my life I’m glad when she’s happy my joy doesn’t come from my wife my joy doesn’t come from my children my contentment doesn’t come from my grandchildren’s Smiles laughter although I I love it but if in that alone I find my
Contentment it’s in that very thing that is temporary because the older I get the older they’re going to get and sometimes they forget what you’ve done for them you know why they love you but they’ve got their own life to live now they’re in the cycle
They got a mortgage they got bills they got a family to raise it’s not that they don’t love Mom and Dad they’ve got their own things that they’re having to go through and I see myself in their young lives and I try to make deposits into their life and I try
To help them along this journey and as Christians we have to be constantly moving forward in the kingdom and so many times we make decisions based on the flesh instead of the spirit praying about situations praying about life decisions praying about the cares of this life and spending time on
Our knees before a holy God and whom as my heavenly father will always be there to guide me with my decisions through prayerful time spent on my knees talking with the father but instead we find ourselves thinking on things that we should not do dwell on instead we find ourselves giving way
To the enemy Satan when we allow our minds the battlefield to start raging and we allow the enemy to toy and the toil with our minds then we’re not thinking on the things that God word says to dwell on and Paul gives us a prescription for
The things that we should keep our minds upon just a few verses before our text in verse number eight Paul wrote I preached not long long ago from this text finally Brethren whatsoever things are true think on these things in other words don’t listen to the lies of
Satan whatsoever things are honest he said in other words don’t listen to the lies of others whatsoever things are pure don’t allow filth to enter your mind especially through your eyes whatsoever things are lovely all things are beautiful when you involve the spirit whatsoever things are of good
Report don’t listen to the negative naysaying gossipers then he says if there be any V virtue and if there be any praise think on these things so what Paul is telling us ladies and gentlemen in this verse of scripture is to be content where God has you right
Now and stop letting the enemy steal your joy and even the way you look and think about others and Paul’s trying to tell us to look on things that are excellent and with the spirit of Excellency and with the spirit of Praise too many times we find ourselves wanting to be in another
Place so many times we find ourselves wanting to be in somebody else’s place too many times we find ourselves wanting to be in somebody else’s place the place that God has them instead of being content with where God has you at this moment and too many times we find
Ourselves thinking that nobody cares and that no one even listens and too many times we find ourselves wrapped up in the wrong instead of being wrapped up in the right and that’s exactly how our adversary wants you to think and if he can get you to thinking this way in your
Family and if he can get this way of thinking in your church or even your in your relationship with Jesus then you’re headed to a place of discontentment and discouragement and it’s in that place that you will find your yourself angry you’ll find yourself bitter and you’ll find yourself unbearable anybody ever been
Unbearable my wife was helping do something the other night with me and and she said something to me that that that as I was asking her to help me with something and U I guess she just wasn’t moving fast enough for me and uh so something came over me and I and she
Knows me she knows me well and she could tell that there was something about my posture that changed and she said what’s wrong with you and I said nothing’s wrong what’s wrong with you and then and I said did I say something she said you didn’t have to she sees the
Outside but God sees the inside you may not show it out here but there’s an inside part of you the spirit is dwelling in that doesn’t want you walking around discontent now I know life is hard I know fires and trials and storms of life
Can come and I know that it’s easy to find yourself staying in a place wrapped up in the wrong mindsets instead of being wrapped up in the right things and it’s in that place that you’ll find yourself getting angry you’ll find yourself getting bitter and unbearable
We must learn as Paul wrote I tell you yesterday my wife I I actually went to her and I said honey I said you know for that one little bit of posture it wasn’t much it didn’t take much uh I said I apologize for that I said I don’t know
What’s wrong with me I just seem to be a little bit on the edge lately I seem to be a little bothered and I said it’s easy when you’re bothered to allow other something your plate can be so full that with one more thing comes on the plate
Something else has to fall off it’s like it’s like the Plate’s so full now here comes something else let’s put that on the plate and you’re like I don’t have any room on my plate I don’t have any other plate in the cupboard to go get I
Don’t have any way to go get a platter or anything but it seems like the plate just gets full and eventually what you want to do is pile it up on the plate and then eventually you can only go up so high before it starts to fall off and
And you find yourself just one little it can be the littlest of thing that can that can trigger that that one moment of unbearables but ladies and gentlemen I’m telling you Paul said I’ve learned in whatever state I’m in to be cont it didn’t matter what where I’m at
Doesn’t matter how much my wife may think one thing or my or your husband may act another I can tell you that if you ever find yourself in a place of discontentment day after day after day week after week wondering when it’s going to change how are things going to
Get better I don’t I don’t see any rainbow I don’t see any pot of gold they lied there’s no pot of gold there I’ve been to the end of the rainbow and back and I can’t find anything you’ll find yourself so discontent that you’ll walk around discouraged and the joy of the
Lord is nowhere around you because you have given in to the lies and the deception of the enemy but we must learn as Paul wrote to be content and whatever state we’re in with the place that God has us right now because God is there even when we’re broke God is good and
Even when money’s in the bank God is God and God is good and Paul even said to himself in verse 12 he said I know both how to be a based that means to keep rejoicing when there’s no money hello that means to rejoice when there’s no
Money anybody ever not had any money before Oh I can remember as a young couple my wife and I we got married it got to the point where the bills you know uh were coming in and what was coming in was greater uh bills than than
What we had coming in money at times and and and and and and you know when you’re young the only thing you know love only get you so far come on somebody I ain’t had love pay a bill yet I ain’t had love I wish love did I
Tell you what I’d be the richest man in the world if love paid it all but I I can tell you I know a man that did pay it all and his name is Jesus and that and that that price that he paid is more precious than anything you could ever
Have in this life it’s more precious than the gold and the silver that they could have in Fort nox or anywhere else it’s more precious than any house you can buy it’s more it’s more Priceless than any car you can drive I can tell you this thing that we have inside of us
Is a great treasure this Treasure of great PR this pearl of great price that we have inside of us doesn’t matter what’s happening on the outside I can can tell you what’s on the inside it’s joy unspeakable and full of Glory that’s how you can learn to be
Content cuz he that’s in you is greater than he that’s in the world can I get an amen so we’ve got to learn if we don’t learn that we’re going to get angry come on somebody now don’t you dare don’t you dare sit back there and look at me like you’ve never gotten
Angry some of you just got angry on your way to church tonight Jimmy and his wife are back laughing at one another right now I told you we were going to laugh tonight the joy of the Lord laughter’s good and Paul said I’ve learned man when I study Paul wow what
Lessons discontentment discouragement was not in Paul’s vocabulary he said I I know both how to be abased in verse 12 he says to keep rejoicing when that and he said I when I have no money he said and I know how to abound in other words to keep rejoicing when there is
Money then he says everywhere in in all things I am instructed by the Holy Spirit both to be full and to be hungry even when I’m full but we ain’t good at my house today last night I cut up about six pounds of chicken and I put it in a pan to
Marinate with some barbecue sauce and some butter on the bottom of that pan and I put it in the refrigerator to let it marinate and I’ve been craving brussels sprouts for two weeks and I love brussel sprouts for those of you that don’t like them we’re going to pray for you
Later and I got those brussels sprouts now the only thing about brussels sprouts is you got to prepare them you just don’t buy them in a bag and throw them in a pan you got to cut them up you got to cut the stems off and you got to
Go down to there there a job to get done just to get them prepared to enjoy them so I told my wife I said last night Nathaniel and Lauren had us over for dinner I love when the kids are cooking dinner and they had us over for dinner
To watch UK win a basketball game and and as what we were there uh before we went I said I’m going to go ahead and I’m going to prepare in advance for this meal I’m going to take these bags of Brussel sprouts they smell bad y’all and I’ll leave it right
There we had them in the truck and my wife said what’s that smell I said that’s the Brussels sprouts they have an odor they’re they’re but man they taste good when you cook them and so so today they were all cut up and I got my dash out and Kathy
Poured them all in there with some extra virgin olive oil in the bottom we put some garlic powder on and some salt and then we threw some Parmesan cheese on top and just let it all melt over the Brussels sprouts come on somebody that barbecue chicken was
Fixing over here and she had potatoes in the oven she made smashed potatoes these old SM she smashes them and puts little thing and makes them crispy we had some the other night and man I’m telling you what we ate good and then she said we got cake for dessert if you like
Dessert Paul said I’ve learned even when I’m full when I’ve got food on my table he said even when I’m full he said or even if I’m hungry I’ve learned to be content there was a day in time when to have a meal like I had
Today wasn’t in the cards for my wife and I when we first got married it was Bean with bacon soup out of a can come on somebody it was and we were eating really good if we had a can of Dixie Chili and had some spaghetti to throw on
Top of that some Dixie Chili to throw on top of that spaghetti with some melted cheese and and I said give me some extra onion on that and that onion was cheap to buy back then you know that extra onion made me feel extra special cheap
Living but I learned that my younger in my 20s I was learning to be content with what God had given me because God was taking me somewhere else and we get so discontent at times been there so Paul’s saying everywhere and in all things I’m instructed by the Holy
Spirit to both to be full then he says both to abound to have money and to suffer need that means to be broke and all these things are going to come sooner or later and the negative is not for your lack of faith but rather our instruction in
Righteousness and all these things that will bombard our minds the Bible says are to be taken into captivity 2 Corinthians 104-5 it says for the weapons of our Warfare are not carnal you see carnal weapons consist of those which are man-made but they’re Mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds casting
Down imaginations your King James version says in other words stop thinking on madeup lies and every High thing that exalted itself against the knowledge of God that’s all the pride of the human heart and bringing into captivity every thought to The Obedience of Christ then Romans 1 21-22 talks about
Imaginations because although they may they knew God they did not glorify him as God nor were thankful but became futile in their thoughts and their foolish Hearts were darkened so what you’re thinking here here is having an impact on here professing to be wise they became fools we have to stop allowing the
Enemy’s discontent discontentment to become our own the enem is always discontent he’s never happy how can anybody that has no truth in them ever be happy How Could the Father of Lies have anything other than him but discontentment and he wants to spread that discontentment he wants to spread
It into your marriage he wants us to spread it into your relationships he wants to spread it into your children he wants to spread it into your co-workers he wants to spread discontentment anywhere you go but I say every High thing must come down I say
