Ketones Are Becoming Cycling’s BIGGEST PROBLEM

For the past few years, many of the top World Tour teams have been openly using a “gray area” performance enhancer, despite some concerns of its influence. And that enhancer is called Ketones, which is the peloton’s favorite shadowy super-booster, and for many, pro cycling’s final taboo. But why are Ketones so shady and how have they become one of cycling’s biggest problems?

For the past few years many of the top World Tour teams have been openly using a gray area performance enhancer despite some concerns about its influence and that enhancer is called ketones which is the pelon’s favorite shadowy Super Booster and for many pro cycling’s final taboo but why are ketones so shady and

How have they become one of cycling’s biggest problems see some inside information has come out revealing that over 34s of the pelaton at the 2023 tour France use the W and UCI legal nutritional supplement however the funniest part is that many wouldn’t want you to know their sipping on those

Controversial mixtures the problem is though that mpcc still advises against using them and many insiders remain upset about the controversial sour tasting supercharger but as usual for every team that sees ketones as the Forbidden curse of professional cycling there’s a team that loves to use them to enhance the performances of their Riders

So after after 10 years of discussion confusion and disagreement why are people still so concerned in order to understand it let’s take a look at a team that’s very keen on using ketones and it’s the world tour Powerhouse and Grand Tour slamming vismara bike their head of performance said ketones have

Been in a shadow from the very beginning more than 10 years ago because some teams don’t use them it’s made what people think is this gray area but it’s all artificial why this gray area when keto are allowed people seem to think they’re some Wonder supplement that completely changes performance but no

They’re not some magic potion well magic potion or not products from Ketone manufacturers like Ketone IQ Delta G and Ketone Aid will most definitely be stacked on team buses in 2024 as sudal quickstep alasin dunic and World Tour Toppers visma Lisa bike recently revealed their Partnerships with those

Companies to the public similarly Jaren Thomas is spending valuable podcast time on his GTCC show to endorse Ketone IQ and praise the inos grenadiers use of what they claim to be high performance energy in a bottle but not every team is so vocal about their use of ketones many

Other teams and individual Riders are trying to keep the use of the so-called fourth macronutrient a secret despite everyone knowing they’re going big on bottles of performance and Recovery Mega mixes that also shows when journalists try to ask teams about their Ketone usage with some teams such as vimal Lisa

Bike aren’t hesitating to share anything to others like sudal quickstep and inos grenadiers keeping their mouth completely shut the head of performance at Vima believes that banning discussions about these increasingly popular products creates an atmosphere of distrust he also added I’d guess 80% of the pro pelaton is using ketones now

We’ve always been transparent about using them even as far back as 2019 but a lot of other teams are not even now so many people use them there’s still this suspicion and sense they’re wrong it’s in everyone’s interest to be transparent about ketones given they’re becoming more and more popular the less honesty

There is the worse the image becomes and in a way he’s completely right see taking labade ketones gives the body an additional source of mental and physical endurance as vima’s partners over at Ketone IQ said ketones can help spare glycogen prevent bonking and support muscle protein resynthesis for faster

Recovery which is pretty much everything a rider needs to perform at the highest level and honestly knowing that ketones help you train better and make quick decisions during races it’s no wonder so many people are eager to try these synthetic super fuels the team doctor over at Alpin said according to recent

Sports Science findings implementing ketones in the recovery nutrition helps recovery and lowers chronic inflammation and oxidative stress both are very important in the prevention of illness injuries overuse mental and cognitive fatigue the team announced its use of the Delta G Ketone which is said to be a market leader created by Oxford

University last year however they are now avoiding discussing them in 2024 this reluctance from Alpin reflects the ongoing controversy surrounding Ketone Esters since their Inception it’s also been reported that the British Olympic team and potentially team sky as well very quietly checked out ketones under

The radar in 2012 in a time where those were otherwise used purely by the US Special Forces since then there have been rumors about who was and wasn’t using the supplement which is advertised as being 28% more efficient as a fuel than glucose alone during professional bike races and yet the world anti-doping

Agency has placed no restrictions on ketones in all those years when it comes to UCI they do allow their usage but do not recommend it since they’re still investigating their benefits and side effects they also promised to update us on the matter in 2023 but as you can

Probably guess that didn’t happen as the progress was derailed the only thing they said was the research process is in progress but not completed as far as we are concerned the story is almost never over it’s going to be a Serial novel we turn the pages and there will be

Different advances there will also be contradictory results it’s obvious the mpcc a group of men’s and women’s teams like borans grower EF education easy post and fdj Suez a particular particularly worried about ketones which have become the most Troublesome performance enhancer in the pelaton therefore members of this group are

Advised to avoid using ketones their president said both the UCI and the mpcc have recommended as a precautionary principle not to use ketones pending the formal results of ongoing research as this product is not on the list of prohibited products it can of course be used the mpcc is not against ketones but

Is waiting for a decision from the UCI on the subject to make a final decision but as we’ve mentioned earlier the UCI is in the middle of their investigation into ketones and they will only release a statement based on their long delayed results when those come to a finish so

While we’re waiting for them to speak up the teams are shaping their own opinions about ketones the head of performance at sudal quickstep said we don’t have much information about ketones they’re not something that we’ve been using the last 20 years for example I can see why that

Leads some to be skeptical but our say they’re absolutely safe and there’s nothing to worry about that’s why we’re happy using them but the UCI isn’t the only organization trying to analyze the potential side effects of ketones the endurance Community has been keeping a close eye on the fourth Macro for years

Now but the thing is that while some studies indicate that ketones enhance muscle efficiency and increase alertness others argue that these Esters might only have a placebo effect at most a recent study in the international Journal of sport nutrition and exercise metabolism even suggests that ketones could potentially hinder performance but

Even if it’s only Placebo and not actually hindering a Rider’s performance there’s nothing wrong with that since at the end of the day Placebo can be a good thing so there’s a split in opinions regarding ketones some evidence supports their significant benefits while other findings suggest they’re just a

Marketing gimmick the cycling Community is divided too while some teams enthusiastically promote their Ketone Partnerships others are strongly opposed to their use several leading Riders and mpcc team managers are vocally stepping away from the gray area those controversial mixes are creating many think the uncertainty harms the sports reputation and openness in today’s

Cycling world after the EPO era scandals a nutritionist over at Team total energy said it’s the void of information that does harm the questions surrounding ketones create a climate of Injustice even if we have have no evidence to say that it is good for performance it’s the lack of evidence that creates this

Feeling of cheating because the bike has had some in glorious times there is a climate of Silence on a subject which is not necessarily effective but then there’s the other side of the story fairness some argue that allowing ketones creates an unfair Advantage dividing cyclists into those who have

Access to them and those who don’t but then again they’re not banned and anyone can use them at their own will and risk in an interview an unnamed Rider has given his perspective on the situation and it went like this I wonder about the pelaton but I’m only saying what many

People are seeing not everyone has the same restrictions on certain products like ketones I am part of a team that has made commitments as have others but the whole pelaton is not like us so the main question now is whether the pro pellaton will ever be able to reach a

Consensus over ketones for now one thing is for certain the results from uci’s long awaited studies and Analysis will definitely help clear the controversy to some degree but then again their verdict might only create more drama surrounding the topic ketones divided the cycling world back in 2012 and they’re still

Doing it in 2024 and if the pace stays the same things could still be unchanged in another 12 years from now

  1. Synthetic super juice seems fake and wrong, yet O well, riders can drink up their lab-made booster and get even speedier for the sake of the show. I applaud those who are voicing concern and caution. It always seems that, eventually, chemical concoctions are found to be detrimental to one's health. Perhaps then the UCI would have to lance these ketone-era victories from the record books.

  2. Unless officially banned, it is not a problem. Research takes years and even decades. No official UCI statement means that from the start of investigation, there is no compelling scientific evidence for it to be banned. The world of pro sports is brutal, the slightest edge can mean a podium or not. even a placebo effect as you yourself stated is sought if it means a win. No TDF was won only on water.

  3. If they are legal, there is nothing to talk about. If UCI and WADA don't forbid them, there is nothing to talk about. If smaller teams can't afford them, there is nothing to talk about. We live in capitalist free market system. The richest teams give contracts to the best riders, right? Should we stop this too? i don't understand the point of this video.

  4. They’re legal, and I don’t have any problem with it at all. However, in terms of in race benefit – they are far, far, far more beneficial for the outcome of a race Testosterone ever could be.

  5. They don’t work! It’s all a money grab like having a PM. DONT need it. So ride your bike and have fun. Oh.. why do pros hide there power readings on Strava? It’s because it lower than you think. Save your money people.😂

  6. Youtube put this video on my list, I don't know why as it is a pile of scientifically illiterate shite. Ketones aren't a problem. Currently there is no scientific proof that they a performance enhancing substance. Ketones are produced when the human body starts to burn fat in preference to or in the absence of glucose (this is the idea behind keto diets … you eat stuff to burn fat which produces ketones and gives you bad breath). To quote a peer reviewed scientific paper in the Advances in Nutrition journal "evidence to date shows no clear physiological or performance effects with acute supplementation, and the evidence for a potential benefit on cognition or postexercise recovery is scarce and mixed". The fact that some teams have chosen to promote bull-shit science is simply down to them and their sponsers (potentially the firms selling the ketone supplements) and with zero scientific proof the teams are obviously hoping for some sort of placebo effect.

  7. They're only controversial because they cost so much per dose. Other than that, your body produces ketones naturally: if riders go on the keto diet, will that still be controversial?

  8. All this fuss about a naturally occurring molecule our bodies synthesize and absolutely nothing about the damage the poison mRNA, lipid nano particles have reeked on the peloton. There was no reason to inject any young, healthy people who had almost a 0% chance of dying or disability.

  9. Speaking of drinks in a little bottle, I took pickle juice for the first time on saturday and it didn't work 😐 I still cramped up. I also washed it down with a can of coke right afterwards so that might have been why it didn't work.

  10. I've tried ketone esters (Ketone-IQ) before a couple 100 mile rides. You feel a light mental clarity boost akin to caffeine, but I didn't notice enough of a performance enhancement to tell if it actually did anything. If the product was cheap I'd tell more people to try it, but at +$100 for 24-36 servings, it's hard to recommend.

  11. the comments about exogenous ketones being super expensive seem off the mark to me. Ketone-IQ is less than $4/dose retail, I don't think that's prohibitive for ANY pro cycling team.

  12. There's plenty of studies about them. They have been put foe over 10 years. Their benefits are probably in the marginal gains category at best and there seems to be no real side effects. Show me a study that says they are in anyway harmful

  13. What a load of nonsense.
Ketones are naturally produced in the body, especially when you are on a ketogenic diet, a.k.a "keto" (keto-genic = ketone making).
They are not only healthy, but very much so, much much more than carbohydrates (which are actually poisonous – ask any diabetic).

  14. No matter how many Ketones are in your body, your body will only begin to utilize them when it enters a state called ketosis, period, point blank. You find that information yourself extremely easily. The efficacy of these products is total junk, and not outside of the realm of placebo effect.

  15. It's 2024, ketones are not killing anyone and if these were terrible, the keto diet would not exist. This is getting to the point of being absurd, MPCC doing a disservice just like this video did by presenting in such a biased anti-ketone way starting from the title

  16. Of professional sports men and women stopped using energy enhancing drugs… will they perform the same… just water , food and your muscles… many can't win. What's the effects on the body after you retire from competitive sports. Supplements equals to shortcuts in sports.😮
