Is Harry amas the answer to Manchester United’s left back problems and should we be expecting him to come into the United first team and have the same sort of impact as kobby Mayu and Alejandro garnacho I would say no and it’s not because I don’t think amas has a

Potential to be a starting left back for United in the future it’s simply because of his age he’s only 16 17 in March and I think United need to be prioritizing players like anas’s long-term development over short to medium-term excitement by pushing these players into

The first team and I think the MLS could be the key to enhancing United’s Youth Development now I know initially mentioned in the MLS to British audiences we’ll see a lot of people turn up their noses however I think the MLS can be the perfect development ground

For players like amas and I think rather than putting the expectation on Harry amas to come into the United First Team there’s a more obvious solution to the left back problem that not just the fan base but also Eric tenh and the United development team seem to be overlooking

And I will come on to who this particular player is but let me first analyze amass and how the MLS comes into play with my theory so I think we are all aware of the standard development path for youth players and Manchester United over the years have had huge

Success with directly promoting players from the youth team into the first team with the class of 92 being the obvious example and if you like me like to reminisce about those days head over to Jersey FIFA they’ve got all the Manchester United Retro Jerseys through the ’90s and 2000s you’ve got jerseys

From some of the Youth products like skulls and Beckham as well as other United Legends like Rooney and Ronaldo as well if you use code Atlantis at check out you’ll get a discount a link will be in my Instagram bio which will be linked in the description so before I

Even come on to Harry amas and whether he’s suited to beating the kind of perfect modern day fallback that United need long term what exactly is my theory about the MLS well the problem I have with the standard Youth Development path is that currently we see United unless

It’s players like Kobe Mayu or Garo who have extraordinary talents and get promoted straight from the youth team into the first team is that they seem to be keeping players in the under 23s for too long and I don’t I think this helps young players and actually leads to them

Stagnating because there’s a massive jump between youth football and Senior football and so when United have kept players like Dan gorsy Dan ikbal and Hannibal medbury amongst others in the youth setup until the ages of 19 and even 20 I think you’re just wasting years which leads to them not developing

The kind of attributes that they need to then actually go on to be successes in senior football and fully reach their potential the standard way of developing players is obviously to then loan them out but for me the whole Youth Development path from clubs like Manchester United but also others as

Well it’s just not optimal at all because we see these players going on loan to lower leagues League one League 2 maybe even the championship as well and I’m just not a fan of this but why am I not a fan and how could leagues

Like the MLS fix this well for me the benefit of the MLS in terms of developing youth players actually comes from what most football fans would consider the mls’s weakness and that’s the lack of ingrained history that the MLS has compared to the lower leagues of English football and the reason this is

A benefit for developing youth players is that because without this ingrained history and even the relegation which a lot of people criticize the MLS for you not only see a lot of Forward Thinking tactical managers in the MLS but without the threat of relegation these managers don’t have to worry about the financial

Implications of getting relegated and so they can take more risks both tactically and in terms of playing younger players for me the issue with loaning players to the lower leagues of English football is that you often get managers who are just stuck in the ‘ 80s and ’90s playing in

Either a 442 or a 451 with a very conservative defensive first approach and this is not ideal for developing players particularly fullbacks in the modern game as just thinking about it logically from a tactical point of view the role that you want your fullback to be playing in the 2020s and 2030s is

Completely different to the role that fullbacks were playing in the 90s and 20s and so if you loan a player like Harry amas to a League 1 or a League 2 side even if initially when he goes on loan the club has a Forward Thinking manager because of the pressure of

Getting promoted and the constant threat of relegation you often see managers and style of managers change quite quickly and so it could very be the case that Harry amas goes online to a Forward Thinking manager in League one or League 2 but within a couple of months he ends

Up with a manager like a Neil waro Tony pis Etc that kind of manager who certainly isn’t going to be using Harry amas as an inverted fullback dropping into multiple different positions and developing his tactical and Technical game you’re probably going to end up with him playing a quite defensively

Conservative fullback role in either a 442 or a 451 or maybe him not even playing at all because of the constant threat of relegation managers in League one League 2 need to be looking at the here and now they can’t be focused on trying these new Tactical Trends and

Experimenting with players in certain roles and combine this with the fact that the pitches in League 1 and League 2 aren’t that great and there’s definitely not this Forward Thinking mentality that you would want and you would get from the MLS with a lot of coaches and managers thinking still

Being stuck in the ’90s and 2000s in these types of leagues for Me overall it just isn’t the best place to develop players and so every time United to send a player on loan to League one or League 2 or even the championship usually I

Just see it as a complete waste of those years that that player could be using to develop their tactical game and improving as an individual player now before I come on to how the MLS in particular would improve Harry ams’s game but also other Youth products in

The united Academy and how they could actually use a club network similar to Manchester City’s to enhance their overall Youth Development let me analyze whether har amas has a potential to be the perfect modern fallback that United need in the long term but before I on to

Analyzing Harry amas as a player I do have a video out on my patreon where I look at the top candidates to potentially replace ten hog if anyos decide to go down that route I’ve also got a podcast episode on how Omar barard and Dave brownford will change Manchester United specifically analyzing

Dave brf for’s marginal gains Theory which led him to so much success in the cycling world and how that could be potentially applied to United if you want to check those out you can get a 7-Day free trial a link will be in the description so now that I’ve gone over

My MLS Youth Development strategy let analyze not just haras as a player and whether he can develop into the perfect modern day fullback but exactly what I would actually Define as a modern day fullback so we’re now in the mid 2020s and I think everyone would agree that

With the Tactical development of the game having a bog standard defensive first fullback is not really going to cut it at the highest level and for me is positional versatility which is the key attribute that fullbacks need nowadays and this is because with the constant rotation between systems and

Players moving into different areas of the pitch your fullbacks need to be comfortable in playing in three or four different areas in the pitch they first need to have the long and incisive passing ability to drop into a back three playing as a wide Point whilst maybe the other fullback pushes forward

Giving you that wide base to circulate the ball around the opposition’s front line press and this certainly is something that we see from ten hog United with ten hog very much preferring to build up in a back three with both dor and Shaw capable of dropping into

The wide positions in the back line in order to create that back three with the center backs and I definitely think Harry amas could do this as as well as just from the itus you can see that he’s a very good passer of the ball capable

Of getting the ball out of his feet efficiently and looking for that forward pass usually down the line but you can also see why he’s being compared to Luke Shaw as from an aesthetic point of view he does remind you of Luke Shaw as he does appear to have quite a strong upper

Body and a very upright running style similar to Luke Shaw and while that his current age he isn’t as tall as Luke Shaw being around 5’9 5’ 10 you’d probably expect him to get to about 511 maybe even 6t over the next couple of years he also has a similar passing

Technique to Luke Shaw being casual yet efficient when he’s playing passes up the line whether this is short passes into the Winger or longer curling balls in behind the opposition fullback down the channel but I think what really makes him suited to dropping into a deep position in the back three is his

Ability to link play efficiently down the channels often being able to efficiently get the ball out of his feet play a short accurate pass before then motoring forward into the space in order to receive a onew and then when he receives it he can drive forward into

The space just as Luke Shaw does and so when receiving the ball in these deeper positions in a back three amamos can definitely progress the ball from the defensive third to the middle third and then from the middle third into the opposition’s half but of course as a

Modern day fallback you also need the ability to play higher and wide down the flank pushing forward and potentially overlapping your fullback and amaz definitely has the running ability to be able to do this with the capabilities of not just pushing up the flanks and providing runs off of the ball but also

Driving forward with the ball at his feet as well but nowadays you also need a fullback who can invert in field and this is probably the part of ams’s game in possession that he does need to improve on most as well as he can certainly use his right foot he is very

One-footed at this stage in his career and so this does kind of make his play a bit predictable always knowing that he’s going to look to take the ball in his left foot which whilst in wider position certainly isn’t an issue it’s definitely something that you would look to improve

On in central positions and the same goes for Luke Shaw as well as when you watch D and Luke Shaw play D’s just a lot more fluid he just seems more of a central midfielder and that’s essentially what fullbacks have to be when they inv in field capable of

Dropping into a double or single pivot position and being able to play out of pressure with their back to goal but given his age it’s not really an issue that this isn’t a part of aras’s game that is fully developed but it is a reason why I would send him to the MLS

Under a tactically Forward Thinking coach who could potentially instruct him to move into Central positions and use him in this inverted role during certain phases of play as if he were to be loan to a league one or League 2 Club it’s very unlikely that he plays under a

Coach who likes to use their fullbacks in central positions and so to me developing his ability in central positions is definitely a reason why I’d prefer to see him in a league like the MLS compared to the lower leagues of English football and so these different positions on the pitch that fullback

Could take up which I’ve just described are mainly in the defensive and middle third and so Harry ams’s forward passing and ball carrying ability is definitely suited to these roles but in order to be a truly Elite level modern fullback I think you also need end product in the

Final third with the ability to invert in field but rather than taking up a position in front of the opposition’s Midfield line in did take up a position between the opposition’s Midfield and defensive lines in the half space as for Manchester United for example while someone like Bruno Fernandez may start

In the left-sided half space he is going to drop off in certain situations looking to receive the ball in deeper positions and so in order to keep the balance in the position shape you do need some positional rotation and having a fullback who can move infield into an

Advanced position and not just sit there for position sake but also be able to receive the ball between the lines driving forward at the opposition’s back line moving the ball into the final third and then in these sorts of positions being able to create chances

For others or even get into or take goal scoring opportunities themselves but being a fullback you’re obviously going to have more opportunities from out wide and so having that powerful running ability which Harry amas has is going to allow him to provide those overlapping runs which we see from Luke Shaw and

Whilst at the minute I would probably say that his end product in the final third is a lagging part of his game which he does need to improve if he can develop his composure and vision in these sorts of situations being able to find low crosses across the bo cut backs

To the edge of the box as well as lofted crosses from the by line or curling crosses from deeper positions the nasv really is going to take his game to the next level as already I think in a defensive and middle thirds he’s more than capable of being an asset in terms

Of progressing the ball via his passing as well as his ball carrying and he’s interplay down that left side but I haven’t yet seen too much evidence of quality in the final third which he will hopefully begin to develop in the next few years in terms of the defensive side

Of his game it’s hard to really judge how good he is until he starts playing senior football he’s most likely going to have to improve certain parts of his positional play which is pretty much the same for every young fullback but saying that I don’t see any glaring defensive

Weaknesses in his game he’s pretty good in the tackle he does seem to have the defensive awareness to know when players are looking to make runs in behind him and when he does have to putting the tackle whether this is going to ground or standing on his feet he’s strong in

The tackle both in terms of actually making the tackle but also in terms of his upper body strength as well and with him still only being a teenager these are going to improve over the next few years anyway but in terms of whether he’s the answer for United in the short

Term I think it’s just too early and to me 10 hog and United have missed the obvious solution to the left back issue and that was Alvaro Fernandez for some reason he’s been loaned out to Benfica despite being the exact sort of player that I think United would need in that

Left back position particularly with Luke Shaw’s injury well she would have to question certain parts of Harry amos’s game in senior football particularly at the top level of the Premier League I think Alvaro fernandz whilst he would of course need an adaptation period has all the raw

Attributes to be able to come in and compete with luk Shaw and Tyro massia for that left back spot and with Luke Shaw and Leandro Martinez’s injuries he would have got quite a bit of game time in the second half of the Season making his loan move to Benfica even more

Perplexing now hopefully for whatever reason Benfica don’t activate that release clause in his contract at the end of the season because I’d love to see Alvaro Fernandez back at United as it just seems like the ideal solution Alvaro Fernandez will be 21 in March so he’s four years older than Harry amass

And so to me this is a classic case of United getting excited about a shiny new toy rather than using the ones at the disposal if United want to make their youth development path a success then players like alvara Fernandez can’t just be constantly sent out Al loan they need

To eventually come back into the side and given a chance while players like Harry amass the last thing they need is to be thrown into the first team to be given a couple of minutes before they’re eventually sent back down to the under 18s or under 23s for the next few

Seasons where their careers stagnate and eventually fizzle out with a loan to P Val or Darlington so how would United use the MLS in order to develop young talents like Harry amas well first of all aone to the MLS wouldn’t be for every player players like Kobe Mayu and

Garnacho can bypass that development stage and go straight into the first team but someone like amas for example he’s only 16 17 in March and so what I would do is at the start of next season after he’s had a preseason with Manchester United I’d initially loan him

To the MLS for the back end of their season which should end around November start of December he can then come back to United over the Christmas period and then be loaned back to the MLS when they start their season again around the springtime and the reason why I think

This will work so well is because he won’t be in the MLS for a long period he’ll still be there for the equivalent of a full season towards the end of 2024 and the first part of 2025 but in between he’ll get to come back to United where they can reassess everything see

How he’s developing if anything needs to be changed with the loan it can be before then going back to America and the reason why I think the MLS could work perfectly for someone like har amas is cuz he’s only going to be 171 18 and so he’s still not going to be fully

Physically developed and so throwing him into League one or League 2 probably isn’t the best option but in the MLS he’s going to gain confidence because whil it isn’t a league that’s going to be as physically demanding as a championship in terms of standard it’s still probably lower end Championship

Top half of League 1 and so young players like har amamos are still going to be playing at a decent level without being at clubs who were going to be under pressure because of the financial threat of relegation which could see them drop out the side and struggle to

Get back in but also without the physical robustness of the lower English leagues as well as significantly better facilties receiving the type of modern Forward Thinking coaching that they probably wouldn’t get in the lower English leagues as well as just being able to play in a better environment cuz that’s

Be real if most young players had the option of playing in cold rainy England or the warmer climate in America I think most of them would choose to go to the states and so for me loaning players like Harry amas to the MLS for what effectively would be a whole season

Maybe a season and a half and then either bringing them back to the first team if they’re ready or sending them out on loan to maybe the era deisy Liga NOS or another top European League before then bringing them back to the United First Team aged 19 or 20 is in my

Eyes the ideal loan strategy for a lot of players and would significantly help him in the long term rather than simply keeping them in the under 23s before either giving them a couple runouts in the first team or sending them on loan to somewhere like Pou or rdow and this

Would be an extremely viable option if inos were to expand their multiclub Network and bring in an MLs side just as a city group have done allowing this whole process to move a lot more seamlessly

    2. Tbh im not worried, for next season people like Berarda, Dan Arshworth and a lot more will already be in place so the managing of players like Amass are now in very safe hands, we now can trust cause we´ll have a world class footballing structure.

    3. I have always doubted the effectiveness of sending our players to the lower leagues of English football, i dont recall any success story, maybe Cleverly if he can be called that

    4. I’ve always thought the MLS would benefit by embracing the retirement league moniker. Bring over older stars and young talents to learn from those players. Whether that be directly on the training ground or against each other in the league shouldn’t matter.

It would also help grow the league. Being able to see big name stars with all their experience and rooting for young up and coming talents would also help American fans feel more connected to the greater footballing world. I say this as someone who saw Santi Giménez start his career in Mexico’s Cruz Azul before moving to Feyenoord in the Eredivisie.

As a Mexican-American Football fan I’ve never really had this experience of following a player from a small club and seeing his steady progress in Europe.

    5. We should have used Alvaro, that’s why I’m ten hag out. He doesn’t recognize talent and doesn’t wanna use the youth that much, but is obsessed with mctominay who is very limited.

    6. sorry bro. I am a huge Beckham fan. after he got his own club up and running I start watching MLS religiously.. cr7 are not joking when he say Saudi league are better. when cr7 club humiliates inter Miami 6-0 with a second string / bench player , I can tell you it's not a fluke. it's that easy to score in mls. still don't believe Me? check out Almiron stats and hype before he came to Newcastle. you would be surprise that they think that he gonna be a 20+ goal a season player in epl cos people in mls are that deluded. if epl send Luton or Brighton to take part in mls they will win it all. comfortably!!!. if you want to ruin player like amass send them to mls

    7. MLS is shit bro. I live in montreal, and i support Montreal FC, and I sometimes go watch their match live, and the play is so slow, and I sometimes feel like even I can play with them. For a kid to develop for the premiere leagues, he needs to play in a faster league.

    8. So spot on re Alvaro. Shockingly bad decision. Playing Amrabat and Lindelof at left back is disgraceful. Amass looks a little slow. I would like to see him work on his pace

    9. The under 23s has become a wasteground for potential talent. Lingard, Hannibal, Mengi, Fosu-Mensah, Perreira… They all looked like they would make it at u18 only to have their development stunted by years in the u23.

The sooner we move to a Spanish system of "reserves" or B team able to enter the competitive league structure the better.

    10. Great insight. I can see the loaning out to MLS. They may not have a great standard of league but being America, they will always have a high level of resource, performance and will in terms of progressing as an athlete
