Women’s rights campaigners from Iran and Afghanistan were among those met with abusive signs and shouts from trans activists as they arrived at a feminist conference in Glasgow.

Anonymous organisers behind the Glasgow Trans Rally had attempted to shut down the three-day FiLiA conference, which features people from around the world to discuss topics including female genital mutilation.

Speakers including SNP MP Joanna Cherry and writer Julie Bindel are also on the line-up.

The venue Platform cancelled the conference 12 hours before it was due to start on Friday amid a backlash online from trans activists, but solicitors got the decision reversed, citing the Equality Act.

But as attendees arrived at the venue on Friday, a group of 40-50 trans activists shouted at them and held up signs saying “Keep terfs out of Glasgow” and “Transphobia kills and hurts all women”.

JK Rowling took to social media to criticise a male activist who led abusive chants as attendees, many of whom are older women, queued to enter.

    1. There's a fact, from a pretty big study, that people either don't realise or want to ignore. People who identify as trans are SIX times more likely to be autistic. We understand more how autism affects people, so to blot out this finding, is harmful and should be acknowledged. Autistic people see the world in a different way, so all this trans stuff is obviously part of it. It is getting OTT now though.

    2. The state of them. "We are feminist" while protesting an actual feminist convention where women from all over the world talk about women's issues. Some of those women probably have given decades of their life to feminist issues and women's rights. The pastel children of the corn are the most intolerant and ignorant generation and a total embarrassment to the human race.

    3. If they really have an issue go make your own trans-woman version and see this as a sis-woman version then you will not waste your time listening to their issues and you can discuss yours.

    4. Obnoxious people who are an embarrassment to gay lesbian and bisexual people like myself. They are like a parasite attached to it's host. The Alphabet people, sexist and homophobic. YAWN. AND YOU'RE NOT VALID TO ME.

    5. Oh for god sakes stop politicizing sexuality. All sides, all whatevers, PLEASE. Be who you want to be, everyone need to be happyish and free. But please, if you make an issue about being free, I think you're missing the point of the concept of being secure to be free to be yourself. And politicizing any sexuality is nothing but useless beyond the bedroom, unless some of y'all are trying to make your bedroom activities public, in which case, What the hell are you doing standing around carrying signs?
