If you could design the tur of France route how would you design it I don’t know uh I would cut one week off the rest doesn’t matter it’s long way long long uh long month yeah 21 stages is is it’s a lot any particular things you

Would want in a tour to France we all talk about gravel we talk about the number of mountain stages that are in the tour to France what would you want to see in a tour to France if you could design it yeah no I actually like this parkourse like the designers of

Parkourse they do a great job every year uh they try to spice it up with uh different different things like this year will be with the gravel and the last stage will be time trial so yeah I like the the way that it’s a little bit

Like try to spice it up so it’s not always the same but in the end you always come to to conclusion that it’s 3 weeks and you need hard stages you need easy stages and everybody’s tired in any case uh no matter the parkour so if I

Would design I I don’t know I I probably would do something similar like is this year some Mountains mountain top finishes some yeah short climbs and steep climbs also but yeah also for the sprinters there need to be yeah uh some nice finishes you know you know the last

Time there was a time travel was in 1989 and Greg lemon upset Lauren fenon very close finish if you we see a similar upset and N I don’t know I think it’s going to be you’re familiar with these upsets but you did it on stage 20 now

We’re talking stage 21 yeah okay stage 20 stage 21 when next day Sean don’t don’t change much but uh yeah it’s the last day we might see big big gaps or really small so yeah it can be if if there’s going to be small gaps it’s

Going to be for sure some mixups because uh the last day everyone is different shape already and yeah uh it’s not an easy time trial also so you need to have a really good day on on stage 21 but uh yeah in my opinion it’s going to be

Already some big gaps so yeah it’s it’s not going to be so dramatic but we see they say yonas is better in the high mountains y own his fer go they say he’s a better time trialist how are you going to approach this to of France I don’t

Know I just need to I need to prepare well and a lot of training on time trial because it’s two time trials some long climbs um altitude and heat training and stuff like that just like always yeah I think I’m getting better every year a little bit just uh based on my feeling

My numbers and just in general more experience so everything counts everything adds up a little bit to be a little bit better but uh yeah like like this year uh you can have just your body can just turn against you and yeah there’s not much you can do uh and when

That time comes it’s already it’s already over so yeah I will just try to prepare as best as possible I I think I do every year pretty good preparation so sometimes it works sometimes your body says no two stage win second overall white jersey wasn’t a bad tour to France

I I suppose a fractured wrist in the age best on the age didn’t help in your preparations no I would say yeah the same when you’re 6 weeks on a home trainer you’re not uh prepared for 3 weeks of uh climbing and uh sprinting and stuff like that it’s not uh it’s not

It was not ideal I had uh yeah after Le there’s 2 months to prepare and everything needs to go smooth and there’s a lot of lot of lot of things to do in that two months but uh I just add up one more thing so it was uh too much

Of everything it was it was so busy it went so fast but uh yeah it was just too much for for for myself I think and there was no no good base for for 3 weeks you talked about making improvements for the tur of France doing

The little things do you still feel in your lifespan that you are making improvements every year that you’re still on the rise as a athlete yeah I think I think yes there’s still a lot a lot of experience to gain through next years for sure and also if I look myself

In the mirror my body can improve as well in the next next years grow up a little bit more and yeah just like that but I can see that slowly it’s it’s getting more tough to to improve myself yeah that’s for sure you see less gains

Than in the past years yeah for sure when I come to war tour every year or just every race I was feeling better and just growing growing up uh improving now it’s like need to find small details to improve something you know like really detailed it’s it’s not coming by itself

You know it’s just hard work for little improvements and maybe that means that everybody talks about it maybe that means that you don’t spread yourself thin that you put more weight on the tur of France preparations we all love the T Pacha that races you know from the turf

Landers wins that wins lombardia at the end of the season but maybe it all in the whole scheme of things cost you too much energy that you need to win The Big Race that everybody remembers the one that’s important for the sponsors yeah exactly how you said you know tour is

The most important race of in the cycling and and yeah nothing compares to it it’s three weeks of uh racing in France it’s uh yeah all the sponsors uh they just want to win the Tour everybody knows it basically all all world even in non cycling and all the races they’re

They’re not so they cannot compare to to tour and yeah maybe it costs me that I prepare also for Flanders for for ardans have in mind Lombardy in the end and all these kind of races it’s it’s not ideal but it’s what I like uh to to raise different challenges through the year

And for me it’s hard to focus just uh on July because I know that I can be good from you know first part of the season and also the last part of the season so yeah it’s hard to just focus on the middle part of the Season where I’m not

Where I know that I’m not I don’t like it the most oh yeah we don’t want you to change exactly cuz we do love all the fight you know Milan Remo and all the way there to the IND Bia could you ever imagine yonas vingo racing Milan Remo or

The turf Landers I mean how is he as you know him quite well as a competitor how is he as a cyclist no I said to him after stage 20 in tour this year we were talking about uh what we do after that uh program and yeah I said I go to

Championships and he was like oh no that’s too too hard and I was like no like like you ride in the tour the last 20 stages you can you can go to Flanders and also win it because he has he’s strong he’s quite explosive he can

Ride bike super good so I could see him uh winning also Classics for sure I mean maybe not like Belgian Classics but ardans and uh Italian Classics for sure but yeah maybe also Flanders was when he’s 6 and 1 half hours of suffering he can do good it’s a delicate balance

Because I think what the fans all love about seeing you race all season long is perhaps also a disadvantage when you have to try to win the Tour to France that being said what can you tell us about 2024 in your schedule besides the tour not a lot you don’t know or it’s

Top Secret at I have my uh desires uh the team have the other things in mind but uh I think we’re we will slowly come together to a mutual program so I think still we need some time to to really think about it and to see what’s

Possible and what’s not is it something like you’re the kid who just wants to have fun and UA members are the parents that say well no you need to focus on your University degree almost yeah not exactly like that but you know uh also

UA team is is a big team now and uh there’s a lot of riders that want to to race certain races and uh and they can win so it really actually you need you need some brains to to make the program for 30 Riders and that it’s it’s perfect

For everybody so and it’s it’s never perfect for for all but it’s actually quite hard work I would say to to put a program for everybody like uh especially in such a good team for sure when you you know 10 years down the line what do

You want to achieve in your career what do you want to have as the big picture for the pachar career I mean if you ask me this in 10 years I would just say yeah I would just be happy to be in a world tour on the start of to the France

But 10 years ago yeah yeah even seven or something but yeah from now if I yeah after the career I would like to I would like to be world champion as well uh now I I won uh a lot of races big ones yeah more or less all

Monuments that I can win I won the to the France two times and there’s three things that’s left for me is like Jiro wel time and World Championships and but it’s a it’s a dream and a challenge and uh we’ll see in 10 years what what’s

Going to be is there a fear that uh if you focus on all those things that you’ll lose the big prize what’s the big prize Well they say the tur of France that’s where all the sponsors look and that’s where all the money is and all the attention that’s that’s true but

Yeah like like we said uh like we know I won already two times and in the end in 50 years it’s important it’s not important if you win two or five it’s it’s not yeah so much difference already to Wi win one is it’s incredible so then

It’s just for the sponsors for the for and for all this like you said and just to measuring who’s better you know like with the records so and that that’s not that’s not the most important thing I would say it’s just uh if you win already one time it’s unimaginable when

You look at this the lineup for the tour to France the potential Riders there we’re going to have a great Tour of France on our hands with Primos there in a new team yonas back to try to win three and REM kopo possibly making his debut what do you think about this

Lineup and this tur of France that we’re going to have in 2024 yeah if everything goes smooth for uh all these Riders I think we’re going to have a big battle really high level of competitors and I’m I’m sure that not just all these riders that you count but there’s going to be

Also some some other competitors that’s going to be really close so yeah if everything goes smooth with no bad luck and uh and stuff like this we we can see one of the greatest tours ever a big Smackdown let’s hope so no let’s hope what are your other friends saying the

Pelaton your Matthew vanderpols what do they tell you to do what do they how do they tell you to to focus and look at your career do do you get advice from them do you ask advice who do you ask advice from uh I don’t know nobody uh they just tell

Me to not go in their territory to to race against them stay away from Flanders stay away from uh all the races no it’s no it’s all fun for everybody I think we we battle each other and we have good fun it’s like huge respect in

The between the rivals I feel in in cycling and yeah if if it’s going like this it’s just for everybody’s good perfect Tedy thank you thanks

    1. I sure hope he prioritizes grand tours next year.
Apart from LBL and MSR he has won all the monuments that suit him.
Giro and TdF in 2024 could see him bring his best shape yet and benefit from other high-level competitors attacking Vingegaard.

    2. TP needs to forget the spring classics and do the shorter stage races to win the TDF. Otherwise JV will keep winning. Second place in not bad, but TP is capable of first.

    3. Excellent Interview. Tadej, your ambitions are more intelligent than those of your sponsors. I wish you that you can go for them. And: you can win MSR as well as PR. Go for it.

    4. With his 2024 race schedule he talked about the team maybe wanting something different from what he wants. I feel like this is either the team not wanting him do so many spring classics or he wants to do Giro Vuelta and they want him to race Tour? IDK. Loved him in the classics. I think UAE know Pogi is their only realistic chance of challenging Jonas at the Tour so obvi they want him there. And if Pogi were to race Giro Vuelta then guys like Ayuso, Yates and Almeida who you have to keep happy have no real grand tour chances.

    5. Chapeau to Pogi. Amazing how passionate he is for the sport and most importantly for his unique way to choose the races that his heart and challenge calls him. Cycling is not just about the tour. For me Tadej is already a legend

    6. Really revealling interview with insight to Tadej mindset. He said 50 years from now it wont matter whether you win five or two Tour de France… Regardless of whether this is agreed with elsewhere, that is what he thinks!

Tadej sounds as if he'd rather win a Giro, Vuelta and World Champs than more tours. He recognises everyone else wants him to win/focus on, le tour. However, he won it first time out and his mindset towards the race and what gives him motivation may be altered because of the sequencing of his success. Fans want the match up with a primed Pogacar vs Vingegaard for le tour. However, Tadej currently seems as much energised by the diversity of his victories across a career than purely the most prestigious race, he won it first time out. It may not be on the same pedastal on his psyche. He is not an obsessive GC rider preparing like a Team Sky rider (Wiggins, Froome, Thomas, Bernal) or LA before that …. which Fans love about him too.

UAE pay him €6 million per year to win – the tour. He can win just about any race yet the pressure of others desires is really all about him winning that race. He appears to want to be free to RACE many beautiful races… fight Van Der Poel for a world title & Flanders etc. He doesnt want 6-7months of slow build crescendoing in a July peak.

Everyone wants to tell the most talented guy what he should do with that talent to satisfy their own curiosity. He is the one with talent though.

    7. Fun watching him smirk to himself as it's said "they say Jonas is the better climber and time trialist." He's taking that personally. This coming tour will be fun to watch.

    8. Thank you for this interview. Tadej is fantastic.I really like that he doesn't just focus on TDF, but takes part in other races he is constantly in shape and at the top. It's going to be an interesting season, they can't wait.

    9. Im Danish and I love Pogi and love the blessed era we are witnessing with all these gifted riders, but I don't think Pogi stands a chance of beating Jonas in a 3 week GT, unless he gives up his spring classics. What we know. The last 3 years pogo has lost to Jonas in the 3rd week of the tour, so we can call this a pattern. The only thing we need to see yet to definitely rule out that Pogi can't beat Jonas, is if Pogi will give up his spring classics and focus on the tour 100%. let's see if he does that, I don't think he will instill Pogi has won all the classics he wants and has been world champion, so I think that Jonas with no injuries will win the next cobble of years. Can't see anybody the next years beating Jonas even though Ayuso and rodrlguez looks promising. As long as the tours parkour 3rd week has hard mountain stages or hilly ITT s then Jonas will win. Mark my words. Jonas will without accidents be at least 5 times Tour de France Champion

    10. In my opinion, Pogacar should participate to the Giro, in which he hasn't competed before, and the Vuelta, in which he placed 3rd in his first participation with 3 stage wins.
