This is the moment police chased a Range Rover at speeds of up to 150mph after it was stolen from Manchester Airport

Thief Sam Toms, 19, and another man were seen breaking into the £84k Range Rover Sport on CCTV

They drove it out of the terminal 2 multi-storey car park after using a device to gain entry to the vehicle

Police later spotted it on false plates as it drove through Staffordshire

A police helicopter camera captured the ‘appalling’ driving as the Range Rover reached speeds of 100mph

He undertook and overtook cars, drove through red lights and almost crashed into a lorry

The chase, captured on camera by the NPAS helicopter, lasted 10 minutes despite use of a stinger

He was said to reach speeds of 150mph despite having three punctured tyres, Manchester Crown Court heard

The chase came to an end when Toms lost control of the car in a cul-de-sac in Birmingham

He ran away, but officers were able to catch up with him

He pleaded guilty to theft, dangerous driving, driving whilst disqualified and driving with no insurance

Toms was jailed on Wednesday (October 25) for 21 months. He was also banned from driving for two years and three months

Judge Elizabeth Nicholls said this was the ‘most serious dangerous driving she’d seen in a very long time’

She said: “This was undoubtedly a preplanned excursion to Manchester. You circulated around the car park until you found the car you wanted – I suspect the car was stolen to order. It’s obvious the police were following you and a stinger was deployed.

“You are very lucky to be here. You are lucky to be alive, and you are lucky not to be here for more serious charges.”

    1. So you’re telling me that this owner saved up and bought the car, then has it stolen by a scruff and written off and he’s given 21 months in prison? What a joke.

He should be in prison 5 years minimum and be in debt to the owner of that vehicle for a long time as a scruff like him wouldn’t be able to amass an income but he’ll be mandated to pay up every month to the owner. This is a real deterrent.
