And we’re walking through the hallways of the hospital and all of the sudden I see like a room, like two rooms down Red light flashing. And I hear all the beeps. Beep. Beep. Beep. And I see like an army of doctors and nurses rushing to that room
And then as I get close I realize, it’s Lilia. It’s Lilia’s room. We are about start our Camino Portugués from Porto to Santiago de Compostela We are Melvin and Lilia and this is our journey Hi, good morning, how was your night? I had the best night thus far I think
All the snoring was just a low hum. It wasn’t like the crick, crick, crick – It was like slow hum across the room – Hum How was your day yesterday Wonderful. Just this stone up and jump, bang, bang, bang We stay until 10 o’clock playing music. Singing songs. Imagine was the last one.
– And then wow, ok going to bed. Wonderful day! – Wow [Laughs] – How are you? – Another double? – Yes! – A quadruple This is gorgeous – Can you take our picture? – Yeah yeah I’ll take your picture there Oh wow yay One, two, three Yeah Hello, Buen Camino
And you know I’m waiting in the, in the, you know, waiting room area And there’s a nurse that comes out every so often To give me an update. “Oh now they are starting with the surgery” And then she came out and she’s like “Everything went well. There were no complications”
So she take me up. We go up the elevator. And we’re walking through the hallways of the hospital and all of the sudden I see like a room, like two rooms down Red light flashing. And I hear all the beeps. Beep. Beep. Beep.
And I see like an army of doctors and nurses rushing to that room And then as I get close I realize, it’s Lilia. It’s Lilia’s room. Like there was a guy ready to, you know, pump her back, um… I don’t remember if they ended up zapping her or not
Vasovagal syncope. That’s the name of that. She stabilizes You know what is she has an episode during the Camino. You know, like… By now we’ve narrowed it down that the main trigger is dehydration, for her We brought a bunch of electrolyte packets Yeah we kept keeping track of her pee, pee color
It was a constant topic of conversation, how yellow was it – He made it – Really? Look who’s here – They are Portuguese? – They are brothers, they are Portuguese – And the are contributing to the Pilgrims – Yes, and through donations There. And then this one right here

We are doing the Camino on bikes, the Portuguese coastal route, after having my stomach removed in 2021 due to cancer. Strong enough, I hope.
I did not know about Lillia's breast cancer journey. My wife is a two time survivor.
