Morning I hope you’re doing really really well I know I’m sitting in a slightly weird position I’ve got my hand up here it’s cuz I’m slightly shielding the bright bright Sunshine that is shining through the window because otherwise I couldn’t record this it is so so bright and so very very unusual um

So I just wanted to do a quick intro because today I am up at Saddleback visiting my friends here now Saddleback are a UK distributor and one of the brands that they bring in and look up after is envy and of course they are one

Of my sponsors so today I have brought a couple of my bikes along I’ve brought the Envy melee the road bike that I’ve been riding for the last 6 months or so I brought that in for a bit of a service but more exciting than that I’ve also

Brought in my Marin Headlands and they are going to do a fullon makeover on that bike so we’re talking new group set you going have to see whether I’ve gone for mechanical or electric you’ll know what I’m talking about if you saw my video from lanzerotti uh we’re going to

Put on some new wolf tooth Parts we’ve got new Envy bits different bars and what else are we doing I don’t know well hopefully I’ll get out on a ride cuz it is so Sunny see woohoo oo hello Josh so what’s in the box of bits what are we going for today

We have a grx di2 groupo that we’re going to start fitting to your bike make it work y got some Choice bits as well so there’s a few little lovely bits and pieces from Chris King there is I mean this is an excellent wheel set yeah we

Have another one oh do you what the prettier one oh I actually genuinely don’t know anything about this so I’m wondering what’s going on here so uh these are the uh SCS 34s uh just like your last set with one big change and that is the hubs so the Envy hubs are

Brilliant Chris King hubs are Chris King hubs Eagle eyed people might notice that you don’t have an xdr body on it cuz that’s not the only thing we’re changing here today but also the group set plus because you are an MV Rider you don’t get any old decals you get team

Decals Riders decals so look so nice it’s going to it’s going to look pretty pretty snazzy what should we do first should we we we we pamper a bike yes uh and then we will rebuild a bike Tada so we’ve got the drivetrain cleaner then you got

The bike wash well it’s the ultimate bike wash it says so on the on the on the bottle then you got the protection so after everything’s washed and dried you got the graphine wax can I just point out that this this kit for the bike costs way way way way way more than

What I would use on my face or body but she is worth It plop that’s about £3 to Her I really suck at cleaning bikes well the thing is they always look clean because they’re wet and then when it dries I’m like oh God I mean the reason it was shiny is because it was wet I bet you Think lovely will you tell me a bit about the bars cuz I was swapping them yes and I don’t know much about the ones I’m putting on so yes the ones that are coming off are the G Series handlebars which is the widest flare of all the bars um a bit more of

Um the sort of Adventure gravel type setup we’re swapping it for the AR bar uh which is the all Road bar um one of the big differences is the the shape at the top so you got a bit more of an arrow top it’s a really nice position

For the hand to be in as well yeah that is comfy although the drop is very similar this is a little bit more compact uh and the drop is the flare on the bar is also a little bit narrower as well um a lot of the guys and girls are

Using these for racing so all all the sort of um gravel Racing type situations these are a really good one uh cuz they give good really nice Flex I know it’s a bit of counterintuitive to to have a bit of uh Flex perhaps well D put a bit of

The buzz won’t it it does yeah exactly um and it’s got really nice comfort in when in the drop what’s what’s really good about this is cuz you’ve got the sort of narrower position at the top so if you’re on the hoods you’ve got a much narrower position but still have that control

Still got the control cuz they’re still flared yeah it’s not a huge it’s not a huge drop either so you’re not pulling yourself too far over when you’re when you go into the drops on this o you know where I could test it exitor gravel races there’s a new local gravel race

Series happening in a couple of weeks can So we are stripping everything pretty much right yeah I mean what am I keeping well obviously the fork the frame seat post’s fine stem’s fine stem’s fine could put a few new Little Wolf tooth bits on of course and we’re going to switch the bars and then fancy new Wheels woing in here So where is the junction box going to go that’s all I’m trying to work out I mean you say what you want about sham but it is nice not having to deal with the yeah the rooting and stuff isn’t It um what are you doing feeling in it now probably shouldn’t have said anything I’ll flip it around and feel myself trying to do It what a mess oh don’t what to do before just you just pull the trigger just pull the trigger yeah oh wow I need one of these in my life oh that is so satisfying nice very hold on there we go so we have a pretty standard grx group set here um

And we’re replacing the standard round train ring with an elliptical one as if on Q it is you want the paperwork F here it is it’s a drop shop chain ring from Wolf tooth uh and the drop off is their version of the narrow wide wolf

Ones are made out of a much tougher 775 alloy it’s designed to be much more hard wearing um I’ve never tried an elliptical chaining but I have always wanted to have you ever tried one yeah that’s what I and what are the benefits it’s meant to improve your motion of

Travel through the pedal St a few dead spots right exactly that okay yeah so it’s meant to travel through the dead spots of your high and like position on pedaling yay Finishing Touch putting on some lovely little bits of wolf tooth Bling cut in at the End the last thing we’re going to do do is plug it in because you can program the shifter so you could have it go up with the left down with the right like on the suround one which I’m kind of used to how would you want it left for

Up the cassette well down you know what I mean left for all all buttons on that side to make it easier yes and then and then that side for down Please the sheet is done and I am so so so so excited to ride this bike I mean I love this bike already but now I mean it is the ultimate the ultimate gravel weapons so it’s rolling on the I knew I was going to forget it

We’ve got the MV 3.4 Wheels which are on Chris King so I’ve got the Envy so I’ve got the Envy SCS 3.5 I can’t do it Josh come in please tell whe so God SCS 3.4 yes Chris King R 45 HS there you go see this

Is the man that actually knows and then we’ve tricked it out with all sorts of lovely little wolf tooth parts so that’s all the matchy matchy nice blue bits we’ve gone for the um Shimano grx di2 group set oh yeah the wolf too oval chain ring and new silk abar has a Chris

King bottom bracket in there as well so yeah just wanted to say big thanks to Saddleback to Envy wolf too of course to Marin whove given me the lovely frame and laugh fly me thanks everyone and thanks to you guys for watching leave me any questions you’ve got about the build

In the comments below give me a like And subscribe if you can and I’ll see you next week bye

    1. Nice build, but: i would haven chosen GRX 12 speed mechanical. And i would love to see a Marin Headlands that can be build with a 2by groupset. Unfortunately Marin doesn't offer this option. I say "unfortunaltely" because the Headlands – in my opinion – is really a bike to fall in love with 😋😍

    2. kudos to the mech for keeping at least a calm exterior demeanor while running the Di2 cables and junction box with a camera in your face. i hate doing this with the customer staring at me. cant imagine this.

    3. Marin, Enve, Silva, Lauf, Chris King, Wolf Tooth – enough said. You've earned it. 👍 Also, you've finally seen the light with Shimano GRX…… Enjoy. 👍

    4. The oval chainring increases mechanical advantage at the 6 o'clock position. It also increases angular velocity. This is beneficial at the 6 o'clock position as the leg tends to stall with a circular ring. However, acceleration of the foot and leg increases at 12 o'clock. This is wasted energy.

    5. Glad to find this, was curious if people go without dropper or suspension for gravel, lucky one I'm looking at is external routed, mainly as want my sram red 22 to go on a bike so not sit about, all rest be etap groupsets, only like shimano on flat bar

    6. Really surprised with you going 11 speed GRX Di2. Widest cassette is 11-42. 12 speed GRX is 10-45 as standard but needs microspline freehub. Personally I doubt if Shimano will do a 12 speed GRX Di2, as they have given up on Di2 for analogue mountain bikes because the seat tube battery is incompatible with a dropper post. (There is a 12 speed Di2 rear mech that works with the Steps motor)
