This video explains how to use the HFEA dashboard.

The HFEA dashboard is produced from data collected from licensed fertility clinics in the United Kingdom who, by law, must provide us with data on all fertility treatments and outcomes. We are committed to improving transparency and accessibility in the data we collect from clinics.

Welcome to the HFEA dashboard instructional video. This animation will demonstrate how to navigate the dashboard using two different scenarios. Meet Jessica, a researcher living in London. Jessica has been tasked with investigating the success of IVF treatment. After searching online, Jessica locates the information she needs on the HFEA website.

Using a link to access the dashboard, she decides to have a look at the live birth rates for IVF treatment. After clicking through to the birth rates homepage, she notices that she can apply some filters. First of all, she clicks the ‘Age range’, which is 35 to 37, and the graphs change accordingly.

To narrow the results down further, she sets the ‘Egg source’ filter to ‘Patient’. Lastly, she is able to select ‘Fresh IVF’, as this is the treatment she is researching. This data allows her to have a clearer understanding of how successful IVF treatment varies for patients across the UK.

Please note: the data in this dashboard does not replace medical advice. This is Dylan, a clinician who works in Manchester. He wants to see how his clinic’s multiple birth rates compare to national trends. He heads directly to the HFEA website to access the dashboard.

He first clicks on ‘About us’ in the navigation bar, and then chooses the ‘Dashboard’ from the drop-down. On the following page he locates the link that will take him to the dashboard. He is aware that he can find this information in an easily accessible way through the multiple births page.

In particular, he wants to focus on overall rates across all IVF and ICSI treatments. Using the ‘Cycle type’ filter, Dylan selects: ‘Fresh ICSI’, ‘Fresh IVF’, ‘Frozen ICSI’, and ‘Frozen IVF’. Then he is able to narrow down his search further to look at the multiple births rates among patients under 38.

To do this, he selects a combination of two patient age filters. This has helped him have an overall view of how his clinic is performing against the national average in the UK.
