“After arriving in Linden, Guyana’s second largest town, I gear up for an epic journey into the heart of the Amazon, heading towards the Essequibo Region. The lush jungle and meandering rivers of Guyana await, and I’m eager to immerse myself in the country’s unique blend of cultures and landscapes.

That’s me and that’s all the stuff I’m taking to go bike packing through the guanas starting in French Guyana through Surinam and into Guyana I’m currently in Guana and I’ve decided to ride down through the Amazon jungle into Brazil riding through the squeo region the disputed Territory between Venezuela and

Guyana so after a night spent sleeping at a creek by the side of the road I’m ready to head on and get to lynon the final big town before I hit the bush lynon is the second largest city in Guyana and also an industrial Mining City Welcome to lynon mining

Town it has a population of 40,000 people despite that it’s a very vibrant place and like a lot of Guyana every night feels like the weekend here the Christianburg water wheel was installed In 1855 by George Patterson one of the town’s early industrialists and has become a symbol of Lyon’s

Industrial Heritage still to this day so after a bite to eat I went hunting for Accommodation so this is what 60 quid gets you in Guyana simple but clean a nice little shower area cold water only like most places I’ve stayed in and a little toilet behind a curtain what more could you want airon that works well and a TV with three

Channels just what I need for a comfy night in I’ve made it down to the Builder Merchants they’ve given me some free strapping to hang up my new hammock so I’ve left the mining town of Lyndon and I’m on the way into the Jungle there’s dust everywhere like everywhere everything’s covered in dust it’s just dust dust dust right well I’m well and truly in in the jungle now I’d planned on riding about 50k to get in where there was a a petrol station on Google Maps and I thought great I’ll get some refreshments at the

Petrol station and probably find somewhere nearby to stick a hammock or a tent uh and then move on in the morning but when I got to where the petrol station was meant to be there’s nothing there there wasn’t even the remnance of an old petrol station just

Nothing so I carried on for a couple of Miles thinking just go for a few more it might just the location might be wrong nothing it doesn’t exist so I carried on knowing that there was a little snacket about 5 to 10K away that I could get to and maybe get some

Snacks uh which is where I am now um this was closed abandoned there’s nobody here uh which means that I’ve got now 60k to do until I get to the next petrol station on the map as if it even exists um and by then I’ll be in deep trouble

If that thing isn’t isn’t real if it doesn’t exist um you know on these roads there’s maybe one car an hour uh they’re dead and they’re mud roads as well well so I’m I’m I’m averaging 5 to 10 m hour cuz it’s like riding on speed bumps um

So I’m thinking of staying where I am tonight just finding somewhere around here here’s where I am what used to be a little business now just covered in dust so I’m about 70k into the bush and all of a sudden I found this there’s a little village here me a

Very small little village there’s a handful of Huts but it’s something just off the main road here amazing so right now the road is unpassable it’s it’s just complete sand uh so I’m going down the hill but I’m pushing the bike down the

Hill cuz it just won’t go uh if I sit on it I’ll go nowhere so I’ve just got to push the bike at the moment it’s it’s slow going this really slow Going I started at 700 a.m. this morning so I’ve been going for nearly 11.5 hours it’s getting dark I can’t find anywhere to put my hammer up I’m just trying to make it to this petrol station uh if it exists it might not but if it does they

Might I might have somewhere around there to put a tent or stick my hammer cut so I’m going to keep going and hope I get there before the sun completely disappears cuz uh I need to see the surface it’s pretty rough so that’s where I’m at I didn’t make it before Sundown so this is where I stayed last night it was dark when I got here so I couldn’t see what was around me but this is what’s around me the petrol station guy said that I could sleep here which I was thankful of this is why

I made such an effort to get here cuz I knew it would be better than the staying in the Bush just a random Welcome to Maura Hill this Village is the last Village between here and the eso region it’s about 125 km until we hit the river where I can refuel once I leave here The squeo region is the disputed Territory between Venezuela and Guyana I’ll be leaving this Village early in the morning to see if I could do the 125 km run to make it to the esbo region

  1. Dude!!!! 5'50"…..You keep my heart palpitating, watching the long dusty sandy Amazonian "road" you are on !!!!! Are you going to make it before sunset!!! I am watching!!! and can't wait for the next episode! !!!! Picacu 😉

  2. Sorry mate, but something is totally not making sense. Why on earth would you even attempt to depend on Google maps in such a desolate region without asking some locals about what the Linden-Lethem has for viable overnight places??? Just a tidbit for you, I know of a few stories why overseas based soldiers (that were part of various joint training exercises), who thought that they could 'conquer' the Guyanese jungle, but some of them left extremely sick and / or injured by wild animals and insects. I heard one story of a US soldier who was pushing his way through the foliage and a large tree thorn ripped his stomach and abdomen open.
Either way all the best with your journey, I'll be looking out for your next upload!

  3. I’m a Guyanese living in New York. I lived on the east bank. As much as I enjoyed your videos, I’m still wondering why on earth you would want to make that journey to the amazon region on a bike? That is dangerous in so many ways!!

  4. That Guyana road is really only viable with a 4×4, lorry or fly there, that's tough going on a push bike, guess it more the journey than the destination, there is not much in Lethem, a one horse town with a runway and few shops and businesses, on the other side from Lethem is Brazil that is paved roads and will be more enjoyable with mountain views and savanna. Boa Vista is quite a big town in Brazil and more like a US Midwest town and its a few 100 Km from Lethem, few speak English there, as is the case in most of Brazil. Good luck with the rest of the trip.
