Hi and welcome to WannaGoBiking. My name is Arjan and it is time for a new Bikepacking Adventure! In June ’23 Peter-Jan and I started cycling from Folkestone towards Wales. It was a fun and beautiful ride along the south coast, Isle of Wight , New Forest, Bath and Bristol. My subsequent plan was to cycle in Wales for another week or so, but that’s from episode 9 onwards.
In this eighth episode we take ride to bristol, make a few Banksy stops, have a free coffeet and then cycle to Wales. In the rain of course 🙂
Hope you like it, enjoy your rides and stay safe out there !

Hi and good morning from Bath where we are about to leave on our I think 8ighth day of cycling, is it the Eighth Day? eight Day ,right it is let’s put the camera this way uh the Eighth Day of cycling and we are heading towards Wales uh via Bristol
So we’ll make a few Banksy stops is the plan, in Bristol and then make our way over the Severn Bridge into Wales and then the final destination for today will be Newport where well we’ll see what happens then so yeah let’s see what what do you think of the chance of weather?
Of weather? do we get any weather today? no we don’t get any weather, again? no weather no weather this time all right okay well that’s uh that’s unfortunate no weather but we’ll see how we manage all right ,cheers bye well that was a truly incomprehensible traffic situation
Apparently this is our cycle path but it feels very strange to go into the the stream of traffic all right wow who would have guessed? oh my word but a secluded cyclepath so hey that’s good patches of rain unfortunately I thought we could escape it but fingers crossed up to Bristol
Looks like we’ve reached the land of Eternal drizzle so and now? another puzzle ah , to the right Bristol or Brizzle as it should be known the river Avon trail well obviously we started off in Bath yeah we only cycled this part unfortunately outdoor guide oh wolves here
Well if all goes well we should be homing in on a Banksy shortly in this park Nethan park, that would be nice well found it so right well not quite sure if that’s part of the art or if they’re restoring it
I think the latter but we’ll have to look up the original picture to see if that’s right at least we got to see one Banksy here in Bristol so I think there should be one more that we can access at least that is on our route
Yeah so we’ll be making it downtown Bristol now obviously for some breakfast lunch or brunch whatever coffee and then well we’ll see what happens, all right see you later bit of a puzzle to find cycle paths here at least there are some and what do you know we found another one
Girl with a pierced earring or something? so I think that concludes our Banksy duties for today so we filmed 2 so yeah that ought to be enough I think there’s plenty more to see so just come to Bristol if you want to
I think we’re going to try and find some some lunch and maybe have a visit to Tailfin those are the manufacturers of my uh the system I have on my back right now that’s this part and the adjoining pieces because because they are actually around the corner from here
So uyeah maybe we can ring the bell and say hi yeah that’s it for now I’ll report in later see you all right, that was a a spot of good fortune there just as we were about to leave for the for the ride it started raining and out comes Sam from Tailfin
And he of course recognized my Tailfin setup so he invited us in for a coffee and a tour along the the premises so that was absolutely super so yeah happy to have met the the people here at Tailfin
Such a small company and it’s very nice to see they’re very passionate about cycling as well and I think it proves in the product well end of product placement here, we’ll just start cycling towards the Wales so see you in a bit that’s handy Outskirts of bristol I think and onwards to Wales
Really takes forever to get out of brighton and that’s not something you want but hey right we finally found some quieter roads , ah was such a a fuss to get through Brighton as it is to cycle in any big city I suppose we’re very close to the Severn Bridge
I think it’s going to be windy over there but we’ll see and then it won’t be long and we’ll be in Wales first time for me so can’t wait all right see you there looks like absolutely everybody’s getting their kids to and from school by car Sure there’s got to be a better way
Well it’s a cycle paths of sorts wow this is going to be interesting cycle route closed monday to Friday so here we are the Severn Bridge I do hope we can pass otherwise we are screwed right we managed to squeak through it really was not easy
That’s the way you do it, thank you Friday afternoon, work is done why not leave some space for cyclist eh there was a dodgy sign at the start cyclist something and another sign that made us think we could pass through but well
Alone would not have been able to manage this cuz uh I can’t pull anything with my right wrist right now but well we did it so hopefully we can now push through to the Severn Bridge all right the track is open very dark look at that
That wow what a nice colorful tunnel this is and here we have one of the main protagonists from breaking bad , Peter-Jan tells me so it’s probably true graffit nicely done, severn bridge very cool well we think we are in Wales cuz zero idea how to pronounce that
And I’m not that bad at languages I think so it’s a bit like yesterday’s roads we’re having a little break here uh somewhere in Wales of course no idea how to pronounce it but yeah it started raining a bit more so we’ve donned our rain jackets
And just hope it stays at this mere drizzle and it should be all right so see you along the way well fair to say I understand why people are a bit reluctant to get cycling it is so hazardous here in in the bigger cities
Ah certainly at the roundabouts- I feel cars really don’t give you the light of day- yeah sorry to say but it’s not good yeah just build more cycle infrastructure and I’ll come and test it all right
That’s it for us for now so I hope you enjoyed this one as as much as we did cycling it apart from a bit of the rain but that was okay quite refreshing actually so we yeah hopefully we can find out accommodation for tonight
And then uh he quickly uh in search of a pizza or something all right see you later enjoy your ride stay safe over there, cheers !
