The DX1000 on review here forms part of Hiplok’s new 1000 range, which also includes the first angle-grinder-resistant ground anchors: the A1000 and the AX1000. Combined with either of these, Hiplok has created a system that can provide outstanding theft protection both at home and when out and about, so while it might seem costly at first, you could be saving money over buying separate security kit.
In this video I run a full theft test, including sledge-hammer, lump hammer, bolt-croppers, drilling and angle-grinder with both abrasive and diamond discs.

10 Cutting discs that’s how many it took to defeat the new hip loock 1000 series delock and ground Linker and yet I did also use Diamond discs so if you want to find out why this home and away kit is so tough keep watching this is a hit block dx1000 now

That X is important this is the a1000 anchor and this is the ax1000 anchor these are all part of the new hip loock 1000 series which is designed to give you a high security lock that you can use at home and when you’re out and about now the dx1000 is the largest

Angle grinder resistant delock on the market now and I’ll show you why that matters in a minute it’s harden steel with composite graphine feros safe sections welded all around the shackle and the body is harden steel with an aluminium core so it’s very slow to cut

With an angle grind now this makes it great when you’re out and about with the bike and the larger shackle than the original d1000 and I modified mine a bit means it’s it’ll fit over the r1250 GS zedex 6r Triumph tarer and vfr800 wheels I’ve tested on which is a first it’ll

Also fit on the rear wheel of some though it’s a snug fit you can also of course put it on a cast spoke and in many cases you can’t get an angle grinder in to cut those spokes so this can definitely be as effective as preventing a push away which is the most

That’s the most common form of theft especially in cities but having a delock with will fit fully over most mcycle front wheels is great so you know if you can get it over there even better than the spoke I’ll jump in here and say that while you

Might be worried that a thief will remove the wheel to take the bike if if they’re pushing it away that’s not going to happen but it’s also not proving to be a typical theft method at all I I’m in regular meetings with the police and security providers and it’s not a thing

Remember nothing’s undefeatable there’ll always be Extremes in any situation and it’s common sense that anything that can be made can be destroyed dyed the thieves are in the vast majority of cases looking to get things stolen as quickly and as easily as possible so the most important thing is to buy the best

Security kit you can afford and make sure you use it then stop worrying because the current trend is that they’re more likely to be pinching cars than bikes they’re easier to drive away and worth a lot more money so anyway the dx1000 is a great portable security option and even if you

Use it with a lightweight chain like the 11 mm Newen chain that I have while that’s going to be a lot quicker to cut if they have the tools they still have to defeat the lock as well it’s all about layered security at home you can have a ground anchor and really heavy

Duty kit but the trouble is nobody can carry a 22 mm chain around with them the idea of the new hip loock 1000 series is that you have a portable lock and a ground anchor that works with it that’s just as resistant to attack now you

Could sling a chain on this but even a thick one could be easier to cut than the lock in theory of course we’re getting into long sustained attacks when you’re looking at quality heavy duty kit this setup means there’s no link theoretically weaker than the other so

How good is it let’s find out starting with a dx1000 delock I’ve got it on a Triumph Tiger front wheel here and whacking hell out of it with a lump Hammer does nothing but shatter the plastic cover and Dent the harden steel body and it still works fine after the attack

Too there’s no surprise that bolt croppers are useless on it as a shackle is so large if I cut the Silicon sleeve off and use the croppers they can chip off some of the surface but there’s no way they’ll defeat it a drill in the lock doesn’t provide a

Quick or easy way in either this is a pre-production one and I found it a little quicker to get through the steel protective plate than on the d1000 so the previous model but after a lot of work to fully drill out the cylinder the lock is still not going to just open up

I did ask HP loock about why this was quicker but as this is basically the same cylinder as used on the D1 ,000 they assure me that the production versions will be as if not more secure than the original when it hits the market in Spring 2024 right picking I’m sure there are

Already comments about sending this to the lockpicking lawyer but there are two things you need to know one lockpicking simply isn’t an issue in motorcycle theft the skill patience and dexterity required not to mention specialist tools are not seen on the street two this is basically the same cylinder as the

Original d1000 from 2021 and lockpicking lawyer was sent one a long time ago but didn’t use it hip block has tried to contact him again to ask if he wants this one as I don’t want to waste money sending it if he’s not still not going

To do anything with it now this is the same as I’ve heard from other brands locks are sometimes being sent but they’re not always featured I’ve tried to get in touch too and our invite to work with LPL on real world theft scenarios is still open because while

Lockpicking is a fascinating sport I don’t want to see Riders not bothering to lock their bikes because they watched a video of someone highly skilled that made them think the average scro was going to have it open in in seconds talking of Highly skilled people if you

Check out the full written review of the dx1000 you’ll see a link I put to a French test that had a national champion lock picker attempting to open this and other locks the reality is lock picking isn’t as easy as it might look at least with decent care and I should say of

Course this is Art and Soul secure approved so secure is part of the Master Locksmith Association these things are tested I’m not good enough to open these things uh with pi but people who are have checked them right the majority of good quality locks will resist all these

Attacks but it’s the angle grinder resistance that is the big one and before we get to Sparks a quick word about why I make these videos I’m not sponsored I don’t take Kickbacks or have any affiliate links frankly it makes no odds to me whatsoever whether you buy

This lock or one of the hundreds of others I’ve reviewed you can see them all at bikesocial co.uk in the product reviews section I’m paid by Bennetts to make content that builds trust in our brand by helping people like you get more from motorcycling we’ve been ensuring UK riders for more than 90

Years now and we cover most common modifications as standard like aftermarket en can for instance and we also have a 24/7 UK claims line as well as a call center right here in centry if you ever need to discuss your policy you get 90 days EU cover for free and if you

Buy your policy direct from benets you also get a full year of bike social membership worth £60 for free with that you don’t just get discounted track days and exclusive access to BSB there’s hundreds of savings to be had I use a hoods discount all the time and there’s

More like 25% off deals with maof and 15% off everything at performance parts and that includes yoshim Mir Roma akropovic Jiles there’s 10% off EV Tech performance and RNG or £ 25 off at Gold top look there’s loads so when your insurance is you please do give us a try

At Bennetts and if you want to take advantage of the deals but are insured with someone else you can pay to join bikesocial just check it out at bikesocial co.uk for/ jooin right there is no such thing as an angle grinder proof lock but we’re in the same

Semantics here as being no such thing as a waterproof watch it’s all about levels of resistance and the HP block dx1000 is very impressive it took three highquality 1 mm abrasive discs to make one cut through the dx1000 if you got it over a car spoke that’s potentially

Enough to get it free as there’s a fair bit of play in the shackle when it’s split but that’s still very impressive and more timec consuming and hassle than the average Thief is going to manage but as this fits over the front wheel or

Even the back on a lot of bikes it then needs two full cuts to get it free so up to six discs five if you’re lucky or not lucky the body of the Lock’s so tough that there’s no way to get through that inless less time than the shackle

There’s just too much of it so that’s all some really solid results and even though it took seven or eight discs to get through the lightlock X3 in my testing which is a great lock the hitp loock dx1000 still has a slight Edge Diamond discs now I don’t mean the ones

Designed for cutting bricks and concrete I mean specialist Diamond tipped metal cutting discs they’re expensive and let’s try to remember that the average Thief is using kit they nicked out of the back of a van but they have the advantage over abrasive discs and they don’t wear out anywhere near as quickly

But and this is really important they’re not a universal theft tool in fact it’s quicker to cut a heavyduty chain with an abrasive disc than it is a diamond one as they’re just not very good on harden steel it’s true though that they don’t get defeated as easily by the materials

Used in some angle grinder resistant locks still while I was able to cut this off with one Diamond disc it still took longer than a 22 mm chain takes with an abrasive or Diamond disc I’ve tested hundreds of locks now and have quite a database of the best attack methods for

Each one which obviously I’m not going to put out in public but while Diamond discs can have their advantages they’re far from perfect and even if a thief carried a selection of tools to cover every eventuality they’re not going to get through any decent kit as quickly as

I can in perfect conditions with freshly charged batteries on a new well-maintained grinder without the pressure of being filmed by the public or of the police arriving and while also being able to position the lock and tools at the perfect angle for the best cut so anyway it turns out that the hip

Loock dx1000 is the most resistant to a diamond disc attack of any lock I’ve tested when we’re up at these levels the time’s taken and the number of discs used gets kind of academic but the overall combined resistance to abrasive and Diamond disc attacks edges the dx1000 into being the toughest so

Far right so it’s proven itself as a lock for when you’re out and about but what about home let’s look at the a1000 first it’s an angle grinder resistant ground anchor that can rotate through 360° it’s fixed into the ground or a wall with eight yeah as in twice as many

As most anchors M10 expanding bolts now this is overkill really but it’s the same base as the ax1000 that has a longarm to create more leverage in theoretically an attack a sustained Sledgehammer attack doesn’t bother it and it still spins fine after and because it’s so welld designed there’s

No way to defeat it without making two cuts which like the delock will take a good five or six abrasive discs discs again won’t wear out but there’s so much steel here that they’re slow too so yeah this is well up to task of matching the

Resistance of the hip lock dx1000 U lock now if you’re using the a1000 anchor with a bicycle or ebike you’ll probably fit it into a brick wall and loop the lock through the crossbar but on a motorcycle you’re much more limited unless it’s fairly slim you won’t get

The lock over the rear wheel and through the anchor so you’re more likely to use the front wheel you do have to make sure the wheel is stopped in the right place next to it and worst case you might have have to rotate the wheeler touch if a

Spoke is in the way but once it’s all locked together this is really secure if your bike’s tucked against the wall everything’s going to be extra difficult for a thief to attack and even getting the front wheel out would be a pain in the ass for them that the calipers have

To be removed the pinch bolts slackened the axle not off then the axle out before lugging the bike clear it away nothing’s impossible but it’s getting very impractical it is really important though to check all the dimensions of this kit so have a look at the written

Review linked up here and in the description and comments as taken every measurement and put them in there I’m encouraging you to go to the website not for the clicks but because that’s where all the reviews are I only do a fewers videos and written reviews can also be

Updated so with anything you’re buying please do check there for the most upto-date and in-depth content now you could use the a1000 with a chain if you take it apart before bolting it to the ground or wall you can slip the plastic sleeve off and fit say

A 22 mil chain over then you could tether the bike it kind of defeats the object of having the highest angle grinder resistance throughout but a decent 22 mil chain is still very hard to cut and the lock still on the wheel which also has to be cut anyway that was

The a1000 but HP loock has also released the ax1000 which is the same at the base but also has this long arm attached to it again all the dimensions are in the written r view but the idea of this is that not only can It rotate 360° this

Way it will tip 180° too there’s seven stop points but you can have it in between them so you should find it easier to find a good spot to lock your bike still you really must spend plenty of time finding the right place to bow it down as it’s not got the flexibility

Of a chain but I found it could either work with the rear cast spokes of my ZX6R or the front wheel and I put it on the front wheel only because where I keep the bike it would mean losing some of the storage space I use if I put it

On the rear where I’ve put it now it’s in a bit of a dead area fixing took me less than an hour I marked all holes then drill a center with a small bit before using my old woess SDS impact drill for the 16 mm holds it was easiest

To assemble the bolts onto the anchor before lowering it all in and despite this being a hard floor they all went in fine the anchor has been tested by Art and sold secure in fact all the hit loock ranges powered cycle Diamond rated and the holes are more than 2 in apart

From each other as long as you you’re fixing into a good solid floor this thing isn’t going anywhere now I’m not worried about the front wheel being removed as it’ be really awkward and it’s hard to get to the other side too where it’s kept anyway so I did think

That the arm would create a lever to help attack it but after knocking hell out of it with a sledgehammer all that does is Bounce the Locking pin out and let it tip down I hit it at angles that would be impossible to reach with it bolle down but it still worked fine

After all that the arm is solid with the position lock being a snug fit in there and all steel so basically this is a lump of Steel with Ferro safe inserts to make it even harder to attack with a grinder and while it’s a really lovely

Mechanism to move and I do really like the design this there’s also enough play in there that side to side so not as it tips but side to side trying to hammer that it’s got enough play in it that it it it just can’t rip the anchor out

Especially not with eight bolts in it’s it’s not coming out plus of course youve got it attached to your bike so when it’s on the bike especially if you position it well you just can’t attack it with a bra of discs this is as hard to cut as a delock shackle the

Dimensions are very similar with a fractionally larger cross-sectional area I would say though that with a diamond disc I manag to cut the anchor slightly quicker than the lock but not by much so as a complete package the hip loock 1000 range does offer excellent resistance to

Attack and while getting the delock and an anchor at the same time will cost a fair bit like any quality secureity you should consider it pretty much a lifetime investment and the dx1000 is the largest angle grinder resistant UL loock you can currently buy so will

Likely fit your bike the anoro need to be positioned pretty accurately and you need to think about how they’ll work for you but as a complete Security package this is a great design and properly Innovative if you’ve got any questions ask in the comments and I always try to

Get back to everyone but also join us at the Bennett Spike social Facebook group as Michael I and the rest of the team are there along with thousands of other like-minded Riders and we’d love to say Hello Okay let’s quickly mention insurance I would always say that you should never buy any security just to look for a discount on your insurance policy price there are so many variables when taking out insurance that it’s impossible to say if you’d get an initial discount or

What it might be also the database of security products is very slow to get updated and I’d know as I’m the one who sends the updates that all bike insures use not just us with locks and hard security sold secure gives me regular details of newly certified products and

I send them on to a company called Polaris which then compiles them and coordinates with all the Insurance Underwriters and Brokers from there the lists are uploaded into the databases that broker agents use and that you see when you do an online quote but it can

Take a long time for kit to get through and not everyone keeps the lists up to dat also the fact is that for the majority of Underwriters working in the motorcycle Market bikes are a relatively small part of their business and with the cost of Home Insurance personal

Injury claims and spon and car theft uh claims taken a lot of their resource while the total loss of a bike to you and I would be horrifying it’s nothing like the problems they’re facing the long and the short of it is that you won’t always get a discount on your

Policy price for using security devices you might need to have a security device to uh be able to get a quote and they can be listed they can be record recorded as an other security device in many cases because they might not even be on a list when you get that quote the

Fact is that using any Security will significantly reduce the chance of having your motorcycle stol in I did a lot of research with our data team here and based on hundreds of thousands of riders we found that people who told us they were using even a basic disc lock

Were three times less likely to have their bike stolen and those using heavyduty security like this kit were less likely to have their bikes nicked than the average car and we did that work before power thefts increased the odds were a fraction better than 1 in a

Thousand so buy security to help protect yourself from the misery of having your bike stolen and also to protect your no claims discount and future policy prices invest in it use it then stop worrying and enjoy biking

    1. I use the hiplock chain when out and about and lock 🔐 to utility poles!
A lock like that is only as good as the anchor 😅these locks are so expensive £300 or whatever it is when you can get a diamond 💎 sold secure D locks 🔐 for £50 😮when you go out on your bike and see 100’s of e-bikes riding illegally and scooter guys doing the same you know the police do not give a toss imagine if your bike got stolen they would not give two craps which is why you need security the bike thieves are another problem altogether

    2. I use an abus granite extreme on my tiger explorer. My tip for these d locks is buy a set of grip puppies and tape and use them on the d lock to protect the paintwork on your wheel. I then use an abus 8008 disc lock on the front. Using these two for me is perfect. The d lock stradles the shaft drive and goes either side of the wheel bars not spoke and connects on the outside of the wheel. I have been using these two constantly since Feb 2019. And apart from a spray of copper grease on the d lock and a new battery every year on the 8008 they are both working perfectly. Kept outside as well. As you say these locks are a good deterrent. And do give peace of mind.

    3. Just ordered one I also have the Litelok x1 after watching your channel last year and the Oxford beast chain and lock but I do have 3 bikes to lock away and a bike trailer so the more difficult I can make it to move any of them the better, my Rebel 1100 also has a tracker fitted which I can monitor at home and the DX is for that along with the beast chain to the trailer. The litelok is just about OK to carry on the bike and coupled with Oxford Boss Alarm lock they hopefully put off anyone when out and about. 2022 Super Cub 125 Rebel 1100 and a NC700S-D for winter and £4K bike trailer so I do keep everything locked together when I can to prevent anyone lifting them into a vehicle..

    4. Top Tip: Stacking steel washers around a padlocks exposed shackle, forces thieves to attack the more resilient chain and/or ground anchor (if used) instead. 👍

    5. For what it might be worth, putting freely rotating chrome moly slugs inside the straight part of the shackles would take forever and a day to cut through.
      Just sayin…

    6. Are u been paid by Hiplok to do this video?? How come therenis another video showing u can cut d1000 in 30 seconds using diamond disc and u are trying to cut using wrong blades, are you doing this on purpose?

    7. Interesting. Would be nice to see a thief have a go, because where you can be seen changing disk multiple times because of a small chip, they will not. meaning less blades used and less time.

    8. decent pinch bar, six feet long with the tip sharpened on a grinder I could rip them roof bolts out of concrete or brick, as for the steel shackle of the lock different story but all anchors unless they are cast into concrete floors are weak points, trust me anything that is retrofitted is easily removed, it will stop most thieves but someone who has a bit a savvy and goes equipped will bypass any bolted or screwed anchor in seconds,

    9. Can you test the Squire Stronghold D16/230 in your next review please? It's powered cycle gold and bicycle diamond, but I can't find a destructive test that I can trust.

I'm looking for an alternative to the Litelok X1 or Abus Granit

    10. another good video, looking forward to getting my AX1000, I was part of the crowdfunding (people who pre-paid) to see this come to fruition and so glad i did based on your video as looks like the best ground anchor out there 🙂

    11. Good that you have covered a test with a diamond cutting discs. However, there are around 16 different companies that produce diamond disks for metal. My own tests on the D1000 lock with disks from 5 different manufactures showed cutting time results varying form 90 seconds to nearly four minutes. The DeWalt shown here, not sure whether was used for the test actually, is surely on the slower side of cutting. Also, the cut on the top allows for opening of a gap which is enough for a bicycle tubing or a wheel to pass quite easily. One thing still bothers me, despite available tests in channels with large followings such as yours, is that Hiplock still advertises the lock as an “ANTI ANGLE-GRINDER BIKE LOCK”, which is obviously misleading in the light of the current knowledge. This is against the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008 (CPRs) and also The Trade Descriptions Act 1968 (all information provided about goods, including quality, and performance, needs to be accurate and truthful).

    12. Also, Bosch’s X lock cutting disc system allows for swapping discs almost instantaneously, which makes any tests based solely on the ordinary way of attaching discs to angle-grinders partially valid in respect of time required to cut the lock with ordinary abrasive discs. The performance of those vary considerably between brands (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Ase0GXjx4w), and it cannot be said that in general it takes 10 abrasive based cutting disks to cut through the lock’s rod. Sure, they are good locks for deterring the kids from stealing bicycles and motorbikes.

    13. Try Picklocking noob he might have a go? He's pretty damb good fast at alot of the gold secure stuff if pick lawyer's not wanting to do it I'm sure he has though on his channel?
